INTRODUCTION TO MONSTERS Monsters are creatures found throughout space that are often tamed by people known as Monster Wranglers. Monster Wranglers are professional Monster tamers, but you don't have to be a Wrangler to tame a Monster. Often times, a Handler (or someone who raises, trains, and/or battles Monsters) is able to tame a monster on their own.
These creatures come in all sorts of different species, which vary greatly in habitat, shape, size, color, and even intelligence.
It is a very common practice for Handlers and Wranglers to battle their Monsters, either with one another or with other wild Monsters while exploring or traveling. In general this is considered a normal and acceptable practice but, like anything, there are individuals who don't agree with it. On the other hand there has been no solid evidence that the practice causes any harm to the creatures and, in fact, they seem to thrive much better under the care of their humanoid counterparts.
But, of course, that's up to you to decide! I'm just here to fill you in on what we know about species discovered so far!
MONSTER RANKS We'll go over this first since all Monsters will fall into one of these categories! Different ranks also have different Species Modifiers which you can read more about in the [ Complete Guide to Battling ].
Common These are the most prolific Monsters. They are found all over the known galaxies by Handlers and Wranglers and appear most often in shop Sales, Games, Flash Battles, Exploration, etc. They are also the least powerful of Monsters but can still be great allies -- especially if raised well!
Uncommon Somewhat more powerful than Common Monsters, and just as widespread though not as great in numbers. These Monsters are a bit harder to come by in Sales, Games, Flash Battles, etc.
Rare The second most powerful classification of Monster and much more coveted due to their smaller numbers. These Monsters typically only appear in Flash Battles and Boss Battles, but may be found rarely during Exploration.
These may be of Existing species or Original Species. Original Species Customs are automatically considered Rare.
Legendary The most powerful classification of Monster out there. They are EXTREMELY rare, and are found only during Boss Battles. Legendary Monsters are always on Unique Lineart and are considered an Original Species, and are almost always One-of-a-Kind. The only way for more Legendary creatures to appear, of the same species, is through an Edited Breeding.
MONSTER STATS All monsters species, and each rank, have slightly different stat bonuses and handicaps.
The most any monster's stat can be is 100 (after all bonuses from battling, or stats gained from breeding, etc). However, stat bonuses and handicaps (the + and - signs you see listed for each monster) also affect their "max" stat potential.
For each + or -. that stat gains, or loses, 10 possible points for that stat. So, if the monster has a bonus of +2 in HP, the "max" its HP can ever be is 120. If it has a handicap of -1, the "max" it can ever be is 90 - and so on.
The higher a monster's Rank is, the greater their overall bonuses will be.
Hybrids will have stat bonuses that reflect both parents in some way, though usually they are a bit more powerful than the median between the two parental species.
TAMED MONSTERS Monsters, as mentioned before, come in all sorts! But the two main categories that tamed Monsters tend to get lumped under are Existing or "pre-discovered" species, and Original or "unique" species.
Existing Species These are species of which most people have heard of before and which are already circulating in the world of Monster Handlers. These are further classified as Common, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary Species.
These Monster species are created by the shop colorists and include Monsters which are sold in sales, or given away in games, etc. They can also be Flash Battle or Boss Battle Monsters, though, as well (and may be unique lineart but will be of an existing species).
Original Species Monsters in this group were previously unknown and were newly discovered by a Handler. Generally, there is only one known form and they are considered extremely rare -- often times one of a kind (unless bred).
These Monsters may sometimes be created by a colorist for Boss Battles, or Auctions, or created as a "Unique Species" via Customs. They are considered one-of-a-kind unless they are bred, or if the person commissioning the custom wants more than one.
HYBRIDS Hybrid Monsters are a rare and somewhat fascinating phenomenon. For some reason no one has ever reported seeing a Hybrid Monster in the wild, though it's possible we wouldn't recognize one as such even if we had. Monster DNA, in general, seems to be very genetically flexible when it comes to breeding, allowing for a new species to be created, sometimes, when two totally different species come together. The Hybrid generally has some characteristics from both parents but is also, in some ways, entirely its own Monster.
Hybrids come in two sorts. Regular Hybrids, often simply shortened as "Hybrids" and Unique Hybrids which is a species born from two Hybrid parents.
Regular Hybrids These Hybrids are species which are born from two non hybrid species, but can also come from a Hybid breeding with a non-hybrid, or even two Unique Hybrid species.
Unique Hybrids These Hybrids will always come on unique lineart and are a cross between two Hybrid Species. They are MUCH more rare than even Regular Hybrids.
We encourage you to read the supplemental information on how likely it is to get a Hybrid through breeding in the [ BREEDINGS ] thread, if you're curious.
All in all, though, while Hybrids are pretty dang cool there isn't a lot of difference between them and regular 1st Gen Monsters aside from their rarity!
WILD MONSTERS These types of Monsters can be of any category -- existing or original species. Generally they are found during Flash Battles, Boss Battles, and even sometimes during Exploration. Occasionally they can be found during Games held in the main thread as well.
Sometimes a Wild Monster will also be a Boss Monster.
Boss Monsters A Boss Monster is simply called that because it is a powerful Wild Monster. Generally more powerful than the typical Monster one might encounter, and are always of a Rare or Legendary ranking. They always feature Original Species.
TERMINOLOGY
- "Unique Lineart" refers to lineart of an Existing or Original Species that is different from any lineart that already exists. - "Original Species" refers to a species of Monster that did not exist previous to being discovered either through a shop event or through Customs.

COMMON SPECIESThese species, while they may originate from one planet or another, may now be found across all biomes. Humanoid intervention and the practice of catching/releasing into different planets (which is now considered illegal) has assured the bountiful proliferation of these creatures. The Snark is a medium-sized Monster with a playful and energetic personality. They originate from the planet Faelun and live in large packs of up to fifty individuals. They have been known to attack prey many times their size -- bringing them down with sheer numbers alone, and can be rather fearless in groups. Wild Snarks which have been tamed tend to have more of a stubborn personality and can be more difficult to control. However, they are easily domesticated - generally within one or two generations - and can make great pets if you don't mind their voracious appetites. Size: Medium; stands at 18-20" Temperament: Generally playful and well mannered ; can show some stubbornness Species characteristics: Round body, four legs, single eye, may display none to short fur across body. Wide or beak-like mouths. Species Modifier: HP: -1, STR: +1, DEX: +0 Max Stats:HP: 90 STR: 110 DEX: 100

UNCOMMON SPECIESThough not as prolific as Common Species, the Uncommon Monsters are still somewhat well known but are considered more rare. They are also more powerful and not as often seen as household pets. Goobla are creatures of individual personality. In the wild they are wary creatures that keep to themselves but will attack fiercely if cornered or if they have young about. They are very fast creatures that use their many legs to help push them along even as they slither like a snake. Most Goobla live in small family packs of 4 to 8 individuals. Goobla originally hale from the planet of Argona where they favor the humid marshlands for their homes. They are omnivorous and tend to prey on smaller animals, as well as eating native fruits, berries, nuts and roots. When tamed they can make good pets if you don't mind them being somewhat aloof, but do best if paired with another of their kind. Size: Medium long; stands at 12-14", 36-42" in length Temperament: Generally aloof, wary, can be affectionate if tame Species characteristics: Long bodies comprised of head, abdomen and tail. 8 very short legs. 2-3 eyes. Fur along top of body (may be sparse). Turtle-like mouth. Species Modifier: HP: 0, STR: -1, DEX: +2 Max Stats:HP: 100 STR: 90 DEX: 120

RARE SPECIESOne of the more powerful, and difficult to obtain, of monster classifications. The rare monster tends to be quite difficult to obtain, but are generally well worth the effort! These creatures are often only found in niche environments, or are very difficult to tame in the wild, hence their rarity status. A somewhat odd species discovered on the planet of Myrthruh, the Chuloo is a Monster that prefers to live in a wet environment. Perhaps this is the reason they are not as widespread as other Monsters. Still, they are able to do well away from water for hours at a time, but Handlers must be aware of their needs. In the wild the Chuloo makes its homes in seaside caves where they can easily dive into the water if threatened. They tend to congregate in groups numbering in the hundreds during breeding seasons. Otherwise they are typically found in smaller pods of 12 to 20 individuals but have been known to live alone. They are omnivorous and feed primarily on fish and sea-fruits. Size: Medium to Large; 36-50" in height Temperament: Varies; most tend to be aggressive if cornered while others are merely wary and shy Species characteristics: Singly body/head with 6 to 12 tentacles, two eyes, may have fins or spines Species Modifier: HP: +0, STR: +1, DEX: +1 Max Stats:HP: 100 STR: 110 DEX: 110

ORIGINAL SPECIES (Customs)These species are Monsters who were found (commissioned) by various Handlers. They seem to be one of a kind, save those which have been bred. Custom Species are considered Rare by default, and can be picked out by the bright teal-blue identifier on their cert. It is possible to have a Legendary-status original species, but only with the use of a Legendary Token. Found by the Handler "Owlsomniac" in the overgrown forests of Vandia. This Monster seems to be of a solitary species as no others could be found in the immediate area. Once tamed, it had a somewhat sweet and docile nature, but can be quite fierce in battle. Size: Stands at 43" Temperament: Sweet and affectionate but vicious in battle Species characteristics: Avian-like with a pair of horns and two large eyes. Species Modifier: HP: -2, STR: +1, DEX: +3 Max Stats:HP: 80 STR: 110 DEX: 130

HYBRIDS SPECIES Due to the very nature of Hybrids being so rare, the exact forms they may take on are largely a mystery. There's no real telling what you may end up with at the end of the day, but that's part of the magic!
For this reason no previews will be available, and since offspring get their stats randomly from their parents anyway there's no point in making a profile!
