Every morning since he had found his gauntlets, Mmur visited the stables to ask about the health of his horse. He begged to see Franks, but he was told the animal needed to be alone, not fawned over by some prat. Not Mmur's words, of course.
The day the horse was well enough to venture out of the city gates, Mmur was there anyway as usual, and when he heard the news, he barreled past the stablemaster and sprinted for Franks's stall, throwing his arms around the horse's neck. Franks snorted into Mmur's hair. For a moment, everything was perfect.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 29/29 YOUR HP: 30/30

He regaled the horse with stories of their time apart, at least from his point of view, including the tale of how he had come across his new piece of armor and bested at least forty chickens... not at the same time. Franks listened attentively at first, but it wasn't long before his attention quite obviously began to wander. Mmur chalked it up to his friend's recent illness, but when Franks tripped on a rock and nearly took a spill down the side of the mountain, Mmur decided that it would be in everyone's best interest if they took a break.Quote: Rolling a 1: You accidentally slip, almost fall to your demise off a mountain cliff, and drop some of the food! The horse only grew more agitated the longer they remained in one place, a cave that Mmur had discovered on his last trip. At least in here, Franks couldn't fall off of the mountain without expending a lot of effort. Story time continued, with Mmur making up a narrative for Franks since the horse couldn't speak. Tensions were high. The stories didn't help.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 25/29 YOUR HP: 30/30

Mmur wasn't all that surprised when Franks ran away, bolting into the trees when they stopped for a rest. If asked, he wouldn't have hesitated to swear that this wasn't his friend at all.Quote: Rolling a 3: Your horse gives up on you, running away. [ step three ]
Disheartened for the first time since he had given away his memories, even after dysentery, Daisy, and the ever darkening sky, Mmur entered the labyrinth with trepidation. He could almost feel the eyes of the fire beast on him, its breath on his back, but when he wandered into its territory as if deliberately seeking it out, he still wasn't prepared.
The creature was curled into a tight loop, facing away from him, and in one of his stupider moments, Mmur thought he might be able to take it. Just... snuff the beast out, so no one who came on this journey would ever have to deal with it again.
He crept up behind the monster as slowly and silently as he could, darting behind a rock when it turned and sniffed the air, suspicious and slow. Between its feet, there was an egg.Quote: Rolling a 4: You hear a horrific roaring noise and when you look behind you you see a terrifying beast made of fire chasing you! It wasn't difficult to move on after that. While it had done plenty to him in the past, the beast was just trying to live its life. Maybe it would even take out a couple of shadowlings in defense of its child, if given a chance. Mmur continued on toward the top of the mountain, and just as he was about to emerge from its peak, a calloused hand dropped onto his shoulder.
"Hello," the wizard said. "Your horse is not who you think he is. Give him another chance."
"What?"
Mmur looked behind him. There was no one there. There was, however, a large pile of food sitting there for no reason.
Give Franks another chance? How odd.
He pushed his way up and out of the mountain with a confused expression etched onto his face, which only deepened when he saw what awaited him there. While he had never been a big wearer of pants, Mmur had been very excited to receive his leggings. But a shirt? Really? Bah.Quote: Rolling a 6: An old man claiming to be a wizard hands you some food.
