Jake stared off into the distance, wondering what merit he could possibly be obtaining from these "quests". Perhaps he was just looking too much into this, but it did make one wonder. If the great king wanted these, surely they must be imbued with some magical property, but aside from looking... fancier than usual armor pieces, he couldn't really tell. Maybe... one needed to collect the whole set before any noticeable change could be observed? But just... how many more were there? It was a silly question to ask, because he knew exactly how many. He had already retrieved three so... there were three more? It seemed this time he was setting out for gem-encrusted shoulder pads, and after that...
Well, it didn't do much good worrying about it now. Eventually he should, but not now. One thing at a time. He repeated his usual routine, packing some food and mounted his horse, turning back to glance at the castle. This... was fine, right? Even among all the chaos and destruction, there still seemed to be some time to find respite. Surely that meant things were not as bad as it seemed? Maybe this was just wishful thinking, and he was trying to get away from it as much as possible.

Keeping a slow pace, Jake kept casting periodic glances back towards Camelot. So much was on his mind right now. Was this... really ok? He kept telling himself it was, but... was that a lie? Shadowlings were already making their way into the castle, and it wouldn't be long until the horsemen arrived. Would they... really be ready?
"Hey Chester..." he mumbled. "You don't think I'm a coward for not helping, do you?"
His horse only snorted in reply.
"That's not helpful."
A neigh this time.
... why was he even talking to his horse? This was absurd.
Regardless, all his incessant worrying would soon be resolved, because not long into his journey he was feeling quite ill. It was probably something he ate, but there was also the possibility Jake literally worried himself sick. Not that that made much sense.

Well, at least Jake managed to pack more food this time, though that probably wasn't very helpful considering what had caused his sickness in the first place. Maybe more food meant he could... filter out the stuff gone bad more easily? Or it meant he brought even more rotten food. Who knew.

The lower half of Jake told him this was a terrible idea at trying to continue his quest. His upper part reasoned this was just a trial and he would somehow get stronger if he could conquer it. It was a good thing Jake had his horse to carry him... figuratively and literally. He wasn't sure if he could go on if Chester left him.
He couldn't let Chester do ALL the work though, because not long after they encountered a wild lion.

They were making progress... sorta.
Hopefully this journey would end sooner than he thought.
