Haze would look from one side to the other at the comrades he had with him to fight this beast. It seemed as if they were going to have good odds, outnumbering the competition. Reading his weapon he waited for the perfect opportunity to strike. Weighing back against the balls of his feet he then proceeded to lurch forward. His toes digging against the ground as he thrusted his spear in the direction of the Shadow Bird. But he had overcompensated for its size, not realizing how small it really was and completely missing the short shadowling. Running right past it Haze would feel a sharp pain against his back as the bird pecked at him. Clenching his teeth together the white haired knight would spin around, angrily defending himself as he prepared for the next attack.

Cady, feeling a surge of confidence from her reign of terror on the ballista, had decided to get back down into the nitty gritty. That is, fighting monsters without a monster-sized crossbow between her and them.
She fired off an arrow gleefully, not bothering to aim. It ricocheted off a cobblestone.

What did not happen, Cady noticed, was a massive explosion that left their monstrous opponent in tiny pieces all over the place.
She sighed. She missed that ballista.
She fired again - and it whiffed past, flying off into the sunset majestically.

Pleased that he managed to strike his flail over the shadowling's head once, that became Yuki's new Favorite Thing.
