Jack was tired as all hell by the time it was his turn to go out and investigate more artifacts. All he wanted to do was see if the cleaning alcohol could just be straight up drunk in a few shots--something to compensate the miserable business that was tending to the wounded. He supposed the quest was, in its own right, the only reward he could look forward to now. At least it was a breath of fresh air.
Right, a breath of fresh air right into the wilderness and beneath an inky black sky. Jack sighed and saddled his horse up for the journey.

The trek was a dismal affair. The further he left Camelot behind him, the less secure he felt having so much open air around him after all. Though to be fair, what place was safe now? The enemy had broken through their gates and now encircled the castle, their lands were in an uproar under the horsemen's hooves, and their king was still missing.
What could they do, though, except press onward?
Avoiding the bees and making sure his horse was on even footing, Jack scaled down the side and was doing well right up until an animal crossed their path. Infected, perhaps? It was far too aggressive to be just territorial. he ended up having to slay it just to get past, coming out with several scratches and a scowl.

The trees were a welcoming sight, strangely. Unlike the open plains and the confines of the Great Hall, they offered both space and shade; he felt like he could breathe here, easier than anywhere else. He smelled fire on the wind, however, and was cautious as he moved about, even though the twisting trees alleviated some part of his soul he couldn't quite discern.
It did not, however, affect his mount in the same way. The horse seemed startled by something, and he turned his head in time to see several giant spiders crawling towards them. Before he could get ahold of the reigns, the horse took off and took with him most of his food. Jack couldn't' chase after, as he was too busy escaping the spiders himself to try and track it. At least he had the foresight to carry some on his person, which would have to be enough for this journey.

Leaving the soothing whispers of the apparently dangerous forest behind, Jack navigated up the mountain. The labyrinth, rusty and far more antagonistic to him in the past, awaited.
And it didn't disappoint.
This time, rather than set snakes upon him or arrows, it decided to try something completely different and unexpected. As he thought he was getting towards the end, he heard a loud grinding noise followed by a horrible snarl. When Jack turned, he couldn't believe his own eyes: an entire beast made of fire appeared before him, jaws wide and ready to snap him up. Even its proximity alone was enough to make him break into a sweat.
And then he broke into a run. By the time he thought to slow down, Jack noticed a lot of his food had been dropped in his haste, but it was a fair price if it meant his hide wasn't burnt.

By the time Jack sat down to rest, he had had it with this damn mountain and its damn quests. The armor needed to be spiffy, gods damn everything.

He was so done, in fact, that he vented his frustrations by yelling. Unfortunately, the yelling caused a small avalanche to nearly overtake him.
Thankfully, Jack was a hell of a lot more stubborn than that. He survived and lived to get his fourth piece of armor.
