Kon saddled Syntaxis with a stony face, crossbow on his back. Dark machinations were afoot, and there were more of them than there were knights. With his steed laden with food, he knew it was time to embark upon a quest. This was all vaguely familiar. QUEST STATUS Action: Rolling food Food remaining: 25 YOUR HP: 30

He sneered, holding the reins tight in his gauntleted hands. Kon kicked the heels of his boots into his horse's sides, urging it through the gates of Camelot. There was another waiting, seeking a partner, but-- It was not Merlin's banner they rode under, and so they were of no concern to him. A creature leapt from the bushes, claws out and teeth primed to strike. Syntaxis reared back, legs kicking high in the air, Kostya fisted a gauntlet into his mane, withdrawing his crossbow from the harness on his back, already primed to fire. He loosed a bolt into the thing-- a wolf, at closer inspection-- but not before its teeth grazed his thigh. It was down, now-- doubly so once his steed's hooves collided with its ribs-- and Kostya was free to continue/ QUEST STATUS Action: -10 HP Food remaining: 25 YOUR HP: 20

With the wolf slain, Kostya turned to resaddle, only to see-- That a giant spider was attempting to get into them. He lunged towards his horse, using the creature's probing leg as a stepstool, knocking free a few apples from his bags. Worth it, in the end, to escape. He was weary. The forest was still, fraught with danger and full of wildlife, but no other beasts dared to jump from the darkness and land upon him. Kostya knelt beside a group of corpses, still fresh from the kill. Definitely horsemen; no human would be so brutal, so complete in the brutal evisceration. They had been slow and painful deaths, partially consumed and then left strewn around the mountain pass. They were new enough that Kostya knew not to linger for very long. But, he could at least reap the spoils of the foolish knights of Gold that had come before him. He dug into their saddle bags, rifling through them to pluck out any food from their failed attempt to obtain an artifact. It had been towards the last leg of their trip, so it was slim pickings: some dried meats, a few picked turnips, and several rolls of bread, already hard and verging on mouldy. Food was food. Kostya collected it, and moved on. QUEST STATUS Action: +10 food Food remaining: 30 YOUR HP: 20

But what he found was not an artifact, but a man, old and leather-faced, robed in grey and black. Without a word, he held out a bag of fresh food, conjured seemingly from nothing. With a cautious hand, Kostya reached out for the bag. Inside it was roast mutton on the bone, still hot, and fresh crusty bread. He thanked the man with a small offering-- a small skin of wine-- and was on his way. He wasn't sure why the wizard gave him food. But he took it, because there was never enough of it.
