"Um... I'm seeking supplies to take up the retrieval of the Greater Gauntlet of the Elk", Kari called up to the Guild Master from her side of a table. Without a single word or even batting an eye, she was given a map and a bag before being given a dismissive hand wave.

Guessing he wasn't the talkative type as she walked away from the table, she decided to see what she got. Looking inside, she found mostly food, with a few other objects like rope. Was this going to be sufficient? She had no idea, considering this was her first quest, and she was doing it alone to boot. Perhaps it was a bit foolhardy, but a task to retrieve a piece of armor sounded like a good place to test herself before getting into anything truly dangerous, plus she wanted to figure out her own limits before working with a group.

Putting her supplies into her pack and arranging it and her spetum into place on her horse, she set off on her first adventure.

Right out of the gates, it looks like it's going to be a difficult journey if the rocky terrain has anything to say about it. Kari looked from the map to the path before her. This was definitely the way she needed to go to find the gauntlets that she sought. Gripping her pack, she set her feet up the bumpy road.

---

After what felt like hours of walking, Kari could begin to feel blisters on her feet resulting from the cruel landmasses. Hoisting her pack up onto shoulder for the umpteenth time, she gasped as she felt her foot slip off the edge of the path.

Reaching out, she desperately tried to grab at anything her hand could find...

Luckily, Kari was able to catch herself and prevent her own untimely end. Some of her food was less fortunate, however. She grimaced as she watched the errant pieces tumble into the abyss below.

Better the food than her, she mused. Kari needed to get a move on if she was going to complete her quest and make it back before the sky darkened. A little lost food wouldn't be the death of her... she hoped.

Kari wasn't sure whether the forest she was traveling through was better of worse than the mountains. While it was definitely less rugged, the path was much less distinct. Not to mention the eerie noises that emanated from the surrounding brush. Her horse definitely was not enjoying the scenery or the noises.

Suddenly, a deep bellow sounded behind Kari, making her jump around as the horse carrying her supplies whinnied in a frenzy to face... a frog. She gave the creature a glare for its unintentional prank before turning back to... an abandoned bag of supplies. Apparently the horse hadn't found the sound funny either, and had completely abandoned her. At least it had left her supplies and weapon, but she would now had to carry everything herself.

"Guess I know why horses aren't considered man's best friend", she quietly grumbled as she grabbed the bag and slung it over her back, continuing her trek through the forest.

Okay, this was definitely worse. Kari rubbed her arms to ward off the chill as the damp smell seemed to permeate the area. she hated cold, damp places, and this place seemed to be the coldest and dampest there was. The decor didn't do much for the place either, seeing as the floor was littered with debris of fallen heroes that had failed before her.

Kari made her way carefully through the cave, listening intently for the slightest noises that would signal danger ahead. after copious amounts of ducking into nooks and sneaking past a particularly nasty looking flame creature, Kari made it out of the labyrinth alive. Now if only she hadn't worn herself out so much in the process.

Finally, Kari could see the summit of the mountain. Giving a sigh of relief, she found her second wind as she urged herself forward.

"Hello there!"

Kari jumped, not having expected to run across anything on the barren mountainside, much less someone calling out to her. Scanning the area, her eyes fell upon a scrawny looking old man hobbling along on an equally scrawny looking mule pulling a cart a little ways below her. What in Camelot was an old man with a cart doing all the way out here? Didn't he know this place was dangerous?

Figuring there was a reason for the man to call out to her, Kari carefully made her way over to the rag-tag man and mule pair. "Are you in need of assistance, sir? " she queried as she thumped down onto his level, making sure that her pack stayed securely on her back. "This area is pretty dangerous... you really shouldn't be here", she added, looking around as if mention of danger would summon something.

"Oh, poppycock, me and Snickerdoodle will be just fine as long as I have my magic" the old man chortled, patting a dusty book on the cart next to him. "I'm a wizard, after all."

Kari stared at the man for a moment, wondering if he was being serious. He didn't look particularly powerful or magical, but she knew looks could be deceiving. Deciding to give the man the benefit of the doubt and play along, she continued, "Well, try not to stay out here for too long, you never know what you may find."

"Such a nice young girl, you deserve this", the man crooned, reaching into a bag inside his cart to pull out some food. "Take care, and do watch your step." Without another word, Kari watched the man round the corner and disappear from her sight, the food still sitting in her arms. The old man had just wanted someone to chat with, she guessed.

Placing the newly acquired food into her pack, she set back up the the peak. Grunting from the effort, Kari heaved herself over a particularly steep section of land. Pausing to catch her breath, she stopped at the faint glow that caught her eye. Looking up, here eyes widened at the sight before her: a simple rectangular slab of stone with the object of her search resting atop it.

Looking over her surroundings to make sure there were no potential traps, Kari tread lightly over to the gauntlet. Reaching forward to poke it, she quickly drew her hand back in case of a booby trap, but relaxed moments later when nothing happened. Picking up the gauntlet, she admired it for a moment before stowing it away carefully into her pack and starting slowly back down the mountain towards home.
