Part One: Heading Out
Tera sort of knew that something was up when he left his room that morning and he'd heard his parents arguing. It wasn't something that he'd heard a lot but when it happened it tended to be Tera himself that the pair were disagreeing about. It was something that left a bit of an ache in the pit of his stomach. He didn't want to be the cause of their distress after all, he'd much rather have as normal a family as he possibly could... though the moment he thought that he knew it was a bit of a foolish thought. How normal could his family be after all with everything happening of late. From him having been assigned a pair of babysitters, to his father declaring Tera wasn't his, to various other things that seemed to happening around him. It was all quite dizzying he thought to himself, something that the voice in the back of his head actually agreed with. That was a rare occurrence in and of itself meaning that Tera was put even more off kilter.
Approaching where he heard the raised voices coming from as quietly as he could, Tera couldn't help but to feel a bit like a sneak thief or something. He paused just outside the door to the sitting room, leaning against the wall next to it, and listened in, "This is so wrong." He muttered to himself, hating that he was eavesdropping on his parents like this. The voice didn't seem to think the same though, feeling it best that they knew what today's topic of argument was about. Much to Tera's surprise it seemed that this father had actually done as he said he would, he'd found Tera some trainers. It was something that he'd asked for, something that he wanted, and yet now that the man had actually found them he couldn't keep his heart from pounding in his chest to what felt like an almost painful degree. So that meant that he found trainers? What sort? What was he going to be trained to do? Would it be something that made him more useful? Would he be able to help Kyruie and Ashta even though technically it was supposed to go the other way?
He hoped so, he knew that the pair were supposed to be the bodyguards and babysitters, that he was supposed to follow their lead, but if he was able to help them out even a little he'd be happy. It was as he thought this that the door was yanked open, with his father coming out first, followed quickly in turn by his mother. The pair of them made it a good half dozen steps before realizing that Tera was standing there and the two came to a halt. Both of them turned then in sync, looking over at Tera, and he froze in place as though standing stock still would actually make him invisible. It's not gonna work the voice in his head so helpfully told him, sounding as though it knew from experience or something. Pushing away from the wall he opened his mouth, about to speak when the man before him lifted a hand in a manner that effectively silenced anything he might have said.
"I have found a pair who are willing to look after you for a little while, to see to it that you are given the training you need to become something of use." The man said in a manner that had Tera's hands clasping tightly behind his back, "You will learn from them, I don't care which path you take, but you will learn. You will be staying with them for a day, maybe longer, however long it takes until you figure it out."
That part came as an actual shock, causing him to glance for a moment at his mother, then back again. He had known the man didn't want him around but he was actually going to send him away until his training was complete? Wait, not, what about Kyruie and Ashta? He was supposed to be in their care! It was important to their family! A mix of his own thoughts and the voice in his head shouting in a manner that almost gave him a headache. Lifting a hand he rubbed it against his temples before he said, "What about Kyruie and Ashta? They were hired to look after me... but if I am not there..."
Emi shook her head, shuffling forward, and wrapped her arms around him, "Oh, baby, no it's alright! We aren't going to fire them or anything while you're away. In fact we will be continuing to pay them, he want to keep them from going and finding some other client after all." After the trouble they'd gone through to hire on Ashta, and seemingly getting Kyruie for free, they couldn't do anything risk that contract. It would mean starting from scratch to find someone to protect Tera from the dangers of the world and Emi wouldn't have that.
"Now, as much as I don't want you to leave, it seems important to your father." She gave the man a look, then turned back to Tera, "So if you could go and pack your things? The pair are supposed to be here around lunch time." She gave Tera another tight hug, a kiss on the forehead, then forced herself to step back, "Go ahead, sweetheart."
Tera nodded, turning on his heel, heading back to his room. Knowing that Ashta and Kyruie were alright, that they wouldn't be let go while he was away, it was a relief. Enough of one that even the voice in his head calmed down and went for the most part quiet again as Tera went to pack his things. He was barely in his room when he heard his parents starting to argue again. It seemed that despite everything his mother wasn't happy to see Tera go, she was just putting on a brave face for him or something. Doing his best to block a that out he went about packing his things into a bag. It was odd, he hadn't been here all that terribly long, yet the idea of leaving was still kind of a sad one to him. Even if his father didn't seem to want him around and even if his mother could be overwhelming he was going to miss it.
Shaking his head he reminded himself that he'd be coming back. That thought in mind he continued on with his packing. He was just finishing up when he heard his parents calling for him, telling him that the pair had arrived early. Clutching his bag to his chest Tera left his room, heading for the front door, feeling almost as though he were heading for his execution instead of for a meeting with people who were supposed to help him out.
Coming to a halt next to his mother he looked at the pair in front of him, his hands tightening on his pack. There was an older looking woman with a pleasant enough look on her face, she didn't seem too bad, but next to her was a young man he'd guess was only a few years older then Ashta, who looked very severe. The look he was giving Tera made him more then uncomfortable, as though he were being sized up, and if he had to guess from the sigh the man hadn't really found him all that worthy, did he? Best that he look to the woman, maybe she would be the one he'd train with if the other guy wasn't interested in Tera? That was his thought at least, the voice in his head though seemed to instead prefer to call the man all manner of words Tera didn't approve of.
"I... umm, hello." He finally greeted them, as though recalling his manners, "My name is Tera."
The woman nodded, "It's nice to meet you Tera, my name Azania and this grumpy boy is my son, Jraie, we are going to be working with you, figuring out what you're best at, where your talents lie, and then we will train you from there." She said, nudging her son, "Take Tera's bags and then we will be off."
A moment, and a lot of almost painfully tight hugs from his mother, and he was heading out with the pair, following along after them. Azania seemed nice enough, so he rather hoped that he would end up training under her. He'd do anything not to have to deal with Jraie, he was just... scary, really. The sort that he felt that Ashta and Kyruie had been hired to keep away from him. Not that he felt his father saw it that way, he'd likely just hired on the first people he could find to take Tera off his hands. A thought he pushed aside though, wanting to focus instead on the task at hand. The sooner he was trained the sooner he could return and be able to spend time with Kyruie again... and Ashta as well the voice in his head reminded him quickly.

Part Two: Introduction to Magic
Upon arriving at Azania's place Jraie had walked off on his own with Tera's bag, leaving him alone with the older woman. It would allow the two of them to chat for a while in the woman's garden. It was when they entered the garden, sitting down in the grass, that Tera actually felt that he was able to relax. The walk back with the pair of them had been a bit tense, making him wondering if Jraie didn't want him to be around. Maybe Tera's visit wasn't something that was welcome by the young man? He might very well be throwing a kink into the man's plans by needing him to be his possible trainer. Did he really want to learn from the guy though? He was more then a little intimidating after all and Tera was almost certain that he'd be too scared of the guy to really learn much from him. A thought that caused the voice in his mind to give a scoffing sound.
All of those worries though seemed to just fade away as the woman set about demonstrating what it was that she could do, what it was that she was offering to teach him. The power that she had was amazing to say the least, something that wowed Tera into wide eyed silence. She first demonstrated her ability to command various elements, lifting water from a cup at her feet, turning it to ice, melting it again with a lick of flame, and lifted a bit of earth up from a point at her feet to absorb the water, "There are other elements that can be at your beck and call as well if you decide that you want to walk the path of a mage, Tera." She said, allowing all of the elements that she'd been manipulating to dissipate.
Turning to Tera she gave a smile and a soft laugh, looking a little amused by the awed look on the young man's face. She hadn't had such an attentive and easily awe inspired student before and it was something that she more then enjoyed if the look on her face said anything. Reaching out Azania ruffled his hair before she said, "That isn't all that magic can be though, Tera. In fact you don't even need to use the elements in such an aggressive manner if you want to, instead you can choose to use your powers to heal. If you choose to you can ease the pain of those around you and make it so that they can live better and healthier lives. That path is also open to one who has magical aptitude. It all really comes down to how you decide that you want to use the elements."
"You also have to keep in mind that, if you decide to go down a magical path that you will need to work very hard at it. You can't just decide to become a mage and then poof, you know every spell in the book. Hm, well, books. There are a lot of them." She said in a thoughtful manner, then gave him a smile, "I think I have all my beginner books somewhere if you'd like to read them?" It would be a good first step for him she thought to herself.
Tera gave a little nod as he found himself thinking over her words closely, finding himself about Kyruie. Would he be able to help him out with such power? To help him to perk up and feel better? It seemed that any time that he was around Kyruie that all he wanted to do was just that, to give him lots of hugs, to pet his hair, and if he was lucky maybe he could make Kyruie smile. He worried though that it would take a whole lot more then just Tera gaining magical abilities to do that though. Still, something told him that it could be a step in the right direction, that he might be able to at least use the power to help him, right?
The voice in his head 'kindly' reminded him that Kyruie was and idiot and that he could use all the help he could get. Not the nicest of comments but it sort of gave Tera another nudge toward the idea of being a healer. He turned to Azania, opening his mouth to say as much... that was until he was suddenly getting dragged up to his feet, something that drew a squeak of surprise from Tera's lips.
Both Tera and Azania turned toward Jraie who had hold of Tera's upper arm, a stern look on his face, "No talking him into being a magic slinger before I even get a chance to show him a bit in the way of sword fighting. I had to take time out of my life, putting aside my own training and my girlfriend, to deal with this spoiled brat after all. He can at least pick up a sword before he decides my presence wasn't necessary." With that he set to dragging Tera off.
Azania lifted a hand, giving a wave, "Jraie! Go easy on the boy!" She called after them, then pushed to her feet, "I am going to go and find those books, you two try to get along now!" She could only hope that her son wasn't too rough on Tera while she went to get the books. Let him train the boy a bit and then they would see about getting down to magic lessons, it was clear to her at least that it was what the boy was interested in after all.

Part Three: The Wrong Direction
Tera wasn't really a fan of the weight of the blade in his hands, it felt like it might be a bit too much for him... but he couldn't quite find it in him to protest. After all, as Jraie had said, he had taken a lot of time out of his day to help Tera, to tell him that he wasn't interested would be rather rude of him. Not to mention that the look on his face was one that didn't really leave much room for argument. Instead it felt as though this was something that he was going to have to do, sort of a final obstacle before he was able to go back to chatting with Azania about magic and how he should go about learning it. A hopeful thought that was forgotten as Jraie brought his blade against the one that Tera was holding, causing it to fly out of his hands.
The blade flipped end over end a couple of times before sticking into the ground nearby, something that had Tera standing there starring in shock while Jraie just looked displeased, "You shouldn't let yourself get disarmed so easily, it makes it seem as though you aren't even trying." He said to Tera, sweeping up the weapon before offering it to the younger man again, "And don't for even a moment lie to me and say you are interested, because you're not. I saw the look on your face when you were talking with my mother, but that doesn't mean I won't put you through the paces."
After taking the blade Tera glanced toward Jraie, feeling a bit bad about the fact that he was more interested in what Azania had to say. It was something that seemed to speak to him a bit more, that and the idea of holding a weapon in his hands didn't quite sit well with him. If nothing else as least he didn't have to become a swordsman, his father had just said he needed to become 'something'. A magic user, be it a mage or a healer, was something, so that was what he was hoping for... though before he was able to do any of that he had to survive this lesson with Jraie he thought to himself, lifting his sword up to prepare for what was coming next. His preparations seemed to be for naught though as a moment later the sword was once more knocked free from his hands.
Tera watched it fly off, wincing when it stuck into the ground once more, "S-Sorry! I'll get it." He said, hurrying to do just that, his cheeks burning as he pulled the weapon free from the ground. He would almost swear that he could hear chuckling in the back of his mind but was certain that couldn't be right. Pushing it aside he turned back to Jraie who was looking at him in a look that said he was disappointed. Tera fell quiet, as did the voice in his head, watching as the Matori swordsman set to circling around Tera, sizing him up. Tera tensed up, his heart thudding in his chest a bit, feeling quite uncomfortable about the way the other was circling, like a hungry janarim that just wanted to goggle him up.
"I'm... sorry... we can try again." He said, lifting his sword up once more. He did want to at least try to figure out how to not look like a fool at this whole sword thing. It wasn't what he wanted to learn to do, but he at least wanted to do enough that he wouldn't have wasted Jraie's day. The guy isn't worth worry about, the voice tried to tell him, a brat that is throwing a tantrum, nothing more. It was a thought that gave Tera momentary pause, wondering if it were true... but he didn't have the chance to think too hard on it as Jraie came at him again, sword swinging.
The sound of the blades crashing together, several times over, resounded in Tera's ears and the strikes seemed to almost make his hands go numb from the vibrations. It was a terrible feeling, one he wanted to rid himself of. He lowered the blade, opening his mouth to try to call for surrender, but he didn't get the chance. Instead the swordsman in front of him once more knocked the sword out of his hands. The blade flew off to one side, but Tera never had a chance to go after it. He wasn't even able to look in its direction as Jraie gave him a dark look, "You aren't even worth the money your father bribed our family with to get us to train you." He spat out, "Do I look like I have the time to deal with a brat like you? No! I have much better things that I can be doing! I shouldn't even have bothered, it's obvious you couldn't wield a blade to save your life."
Giving Tera a shake he said, "You're completely useless, probably why you were with your master so long, huh? Couldn't run away? Or maybe you didn't want to? Maybe you like that..." Whatever insult he might have been able to use was cut off when Tera's hand balled into a fist, coming up to slug Jraie in the face, silencing him quite effectively.
"Keep talking, Momma's boy, maybe I will show you exactly how good I can be with that sword." Terasu spat out, finding himself less then amused with the guy. It was to the point that he'd come forth just to take a swing at him. As if he or Tera had wanted to stay with their master, who in their right mind actually wanted to spend time with an Oban? Bunch of pretentious jerks that thought far too highly of themselves. Walking over to where his sword had gone, scooping it up with ease, Terasu pointed it at Jraie, "Come on then, let's see what you've got, 'Teacher'. If you're so confident that you can show me how use a sword then why don't you prove it? Show me you can do more then run your mouth."
Maybe this was for the best? He'd see to it that Tera was toughened up, so that he wouldn't need to resort to stepping in all the time to save him from all of the awful people in the world. Those like their master, this petty man who was throwing about fit about his ruined day, and anyone else that got underfoot! While it might mean that he wouldn't have as many reasons to come out it would mean that if he decided to come out it wouldn't only be for terrible situations and terrible people, maybe he'd just show up for something good for once! That thought in mind he waited for Jraie to fetch his sword so that the two of them could have a real go at this. He'd let Tera take over in a bit, but for now he wanted a chance to knock that smug look of Jraie's face.

Part Four: Turnabout
It was close to early evening when Tera 'came to' again, feeling more then a little exhausted, all of his muscles screaming in a way that was most certainly not used to. It was as though he'd been exercising all day. Looking up at the sky, and realizing the span of time that he'd lost, he wondered if that was at all possible. Had he been... training? Waiting, no, that wasn't right.... was it? Lifting a hand he rubbed it against his face, trying to recall any of the missing time, but was coming up with a blank as per usual. From there he set to fretting, what if he'd done or said something strange? Just as he was thinking this a water skin came to hang in front of his face, swinging back and forth to get his attention. Following it up he found himself starring at Jraie who looked equally as tired, drinking from his own water skin.
Tera reached up to take the offered water skin, drinking from it slowly, as he considered his next question carefully. What exactly should he ask? If Jraie was alright? If he'd said anything weird to him? He could always ask why it was that he was feeling so sore and sluggish. Looking away from Jraie as he drank from the water skin he finally started with, "I... umm..." But failed to really getting anything of merit passed his lips. Instead he just glanced toward Jraie who actually sat next to him.
The man was starring at him hard, but the disgust seemed to be gone from his face at least. The fact that the man wasn't berating Tera about his inability to hold his sword correctly worried the young man even more. What was going on? What was with this change in Jraie? Jraie squatted down in front of Tera, reaching out a hand to catch hold of his chin, and turned his head from side to side, "Huh, so it is true." He murmured, looking a bit on the surprised side. It was as though he were seeing something that he almost didn't believe, something that only added to Tera's confusion.
"What...? What is true?" He asked, not sure if he wanted to know. Was this something to do with what his father had said to him? He had said that he'd seen Tera sitting around talking to himself, a bad habit that he had when it came to trying to talk problems out, discussing things with himself and that loud voice in his head helped at times. Except when it came to Kyruie, said voice seemed to greatly dislike him, otherwise it helped. Really he'd just thought that it was an overly loud conscience, one that didn't listen to him, and nothing more. Now he was starting to worry, especially given that his father had said something about him 'becoming someone else' when he was stressed. He hadn't even thought about it because of the black out that had happened moments later. It was something that had Tera's thoughts whirling but he pushed it aside, now was not the time. He would chat with someone else about this, someone he felt more comfortable with, and it was Jraie. Besides, he had other things to worry about.
After what felt like an eternity Jraie stopped starring at Tera before he sat down next to himself, "We will get back to your training after you're rested up." He told him, "You're a little on the soft side but you show promise. Given enough time and training at my side I think that you might end up a fairly decent swordsman, Tera."
Tera gave a smile, "Oh? Really? I... thank you!" He said, instantly and without thinking about it. At least until it really sunk in what the man had said to him, "W-Wait... what? Swordsman? I... I thought that I was going to train with Miss Azania, your mother... I..." Oh no, it seemed that during that black out that he'd definitely said and done some very strange things if he was suddenly training with Jraie, not Azania, and was being told he had potential to wield a blade. There was that part of him, a rather meek part, that was suddenly wondering if he shouldn't complain? Was learning the art of a sword so bad? He was just afraid that if he became a swordsman then Ashta and Kyruie would suddenly think he didn't need or want them around which was far from true. He didn't want to chase them away but at the same time he didn't want to insult Jraie either, not when the man was acting so... nice.
Dropping his gaze he set set to picking at his nails, something he did when he was nervous and uncertain of himself. His eyes were locked on his hands as though they were the most interesting thing ever created as he tried to figure out what it was that he should do now. He could either give up his earlier desire to learn magic to help Kyruie and risk driving him away or he could try to go back to Azania for training and drive Jraie off when he was actually complimenting him instead of insulting him. It was something that had Tera's head spinning a little as he tried to decide what it was that he wanted to do.
Jraie looked over at Tera for a long moment, as though sizing him up, taking in his fidgeting, "You seemed pretty adamant for a fight... and I know that is my fault, I took my anger out on you because of today and... it wasn't fair of me." He admitted, glancing at Tera, then away, as though he was actually feeling bad about what he'd said and done, "It wasn't you, not even the situation at hand, but instead what I was pulled away from. My girlfriend, well, a girl I see off and on, I found out she's also seeing..." He trailed off, nose wrinkling in disgust.
Tera glanced at Jraie and asked, "Seeing...?" What was she seeing that was so disgusting? He couldn't help but to be curious about that, wanting to know. Even though it's not exactly your business the voice so helpfully reminded him. Something Tera was quick to echo, "Ah, not that it's any of my business!"
The swordsman shook his head, "It's just something, surprise... I suppose, she's spending a lot of time with an Oban..." He muttered the last part, glaring off to one side, "It shook me more then a little and when I was getting ready to go find my girl I was informed I would be helping to train someone in the art of swordsmanship... and, well, you know the rest." He said, waving a hand as though wanting to repeat what he'd done since it would just make him feel worse about taking his anger out on Tera. Shaking his head the man said, "That is neither here nor there though, I just felt it warranted an explanation. Come on, we should see about getting back to your training."
Following suit Tera pushed up to his feet, brushing himself off, before clutching his hands together and to his chest, starring up at Jraie for a moment before he said, "I... maybe it was the heat of the moment, I wasn't... myself. I... wanted to... train with her, your mother... to learn magic and... I'm sorry." His voice started out strong but sort of fizzled out into a whisper. He seemed to struggle for a moment with his own weakness, years of being under the thumb of his master seeming to have made him into a rather submissive sort of person.
He struggled with himself, to find his voice, to try to get himself back on the right path, the magical path, once more.

Part Five: A Decision Made
There seemed to be a long silence between the two of them as Jraie gave Tera a once over, seeming as though he were thinking hard on something, "I see... you were quite adamant about me teaching you a moment ago though I can understand things being said in the heat of the moment." Still, it was odd, the drastic change that Tera had gone through, something that was different entirely from a person merely driven by anger or the want to prove themselves. It was as though he had been dealing with someone else entirely, wasn't it? Jraie tried to decide if such a thing were even possible.
"It's a shame you know, you show promise, you could be a good swordsman if you wanted to be. You needn't stick to magic just because my mother was the first to speak with you about what path you should take." Jraie told him, not wanting to sway him per say, but if nothing else wanted to speak his part before Tera went one way or the other with his decision.
Tera seemed to consider for a moment, wondering if maybe swordplay might better for him. If he learned first from Jraie after all he could then take up learning from Ashta later since he too wielded a sword. If he did well maybe he could even train with Kyruie as well... but if he took up a sword then he wouldn't have any magical power, no healing abilities, and he wouldn't he able to help Kyruie in that manner. Lifting his hands he for a moment rubbed his fingers against his temples, seeming as though he were flip flopping on the idea like some sort of fish out of water.
"I... either way, is tempting. I was told I needed to pick a path but wasn't told which, just that I had to pick. It's... hard, I know both have merit." Tera murmured, then looked up at Jraie, "There is someone I know, someone I care about that I want to help, to be useful to... he's not easy to get along with but he's my friend, what feels like my very first friend. I think, maybe, that magic could help me to help him, to even see him well again one day." It was something he really wanted, to see him happy, maybe see him smile, "It's not just him, I'd like to help others too, those that had to deal with what Kyruie and I have dealt with, are still dealing with. I... might be able to protect him with a sword but with magic I could do more."
Jraie gave a bit of a sighing sound, "I see. I can't say that I know what you had to deal with, mother and I were able to avoid Oban enslavement through some miracle." He said, glancing away from Tera, crossing his arms over his chest, "I saw the way that you were looking at her earlier, so in awe of her abilities. To think that you want for such power not for yourself but for someone else." He murmured, not really able to think in that way himself. He was more selfish he supposed, unable to take a path that started with him putting the needs of others before his own."
Giving a half shrug he continued, "I suppose I can also understand you taking up a sword to prove yourself after what I said and did." He murmured, seeming as though he were torn between being upset and being relieved that he wasn't going to be training Tera full time. Giving a smile after a moment, and clapping him on the back, he said, "Come on, we will go talk to mother then, see if she will take over your training now that we are done with ours. Good luck with all of that though, I tried for a bit, but all that reading and sitting still to study, it was too boring for me when I was young."
Motioning to Tera the swordsman moved to lead the way to the sitting room where his mother was likely reading those complicated tomes of hers. The afternoon had been, for them both, interesting to say the least but Tera had to get back to work with Azania and Jraie needed to get back to chasing his girl, both would likely be busy after this.
"Thank you, Jraie." Tera said, moving to fall into step behind him. Already he was thinking on all of the spells he might be able to learn, all the things he might be able to do for Kyruie. He could hear that voice in his head telling him that giving up a blade was a bit of a waste, that Tera could have toughened up, but no matter. Magic seemed to bet he path that Tera wanted to take and while he was all for healing Terasu thought differently, he supposed he might have to apply himself and learn more destructive spells. That or he could always just club someone with those heavy tomes, he was good either way.
Waiting for them in the study, just as Jraie predicted, was Azania. She looked up from her book as the pair came in and she gave Tera a smile, "I see that Jraie didn't work you until you fell over, that's a good sign. So have you decided what it is that you wish to do, little Tera?" She asked, closing her book as she got up to her feet, approaching the pair.
Giving a slow nod of his head, and a quick glance toward Jraie, he gave a nod, "I, yes, if you don't mind I would like to learn from you, Miss Azania, to use magic for healing." He told her, hands clasped tightly behind his back as he waited to see what she said.
The woman gave a happy smile, giving his hair a ruffle, and said, "Alright, we will begin in the morning, for now I think the two of you should probably get cleaned up, get something to eat, and turn in early. It's been quite a long day for the both of you. It's only going to get that much more busy from here too. Magic isn't something you learn overnight, so you will need to stay a while or come back for lessons periodically. I will leave that up to you." She said, ushering the boys on their way to do as they were told.
Giving a happy sound Tera gave the kindly woman a hug, "Thank you, so much, this means a lot to me. I will work hard, I promise!" He told her in an enthusiastic manner before moving to fall into step behind Jraie who was leading the way once more. Magic lessons started tomorrow and Tera wasn't sure that he was going to be able to sleep a wink tonight even as tired as he felt after the day's events.

Sorry for the length, there was so much to work with and I had a ton of fun with it! So excited for more RP with Kyruie and Ashta once Kyruie grows too! *bounces* There is no rush on his art though since I know that jay has mentioned in the thread that she's been busy IRL. I don't mind waiting so she doesn't have to rush or feel stressed or anything. ^_^ <3
