General Painite needed to let off some steam. She had been hunting, taking out civilians and the odd senshi or knight if she could, but it was not enough. She needed to step up her hunts.
It was finally starting to feel normal again, if anything else. The grind. And that was a bad thing, for someone like Painite. She needed to go against the grain, and be unpredictable. She needed to make a scene in the worst way, and she did not care who got in the way.
She needed a new target, and a new game.
Camelot would always be her priority. She would tear him apart, limb from limb, but she needed more than focusing on him. She needed to get stronger, to break the White Moon, and maybe build her way back up to him. She got so close before, but had lost too much ground now.
But if nothing else, she needed some fun.
Walking through the park, sticking to the grass and the trees rather than the paths, Painite was on the hunt. She did not come here for energy, because she knew a lot of newbie negas came here. And that meant a lot of senshi and knights came here as well.

Sherwood had the unfortunate luck to stumble into Painite's territory. She had no idea who the general was but she was about to find out. She was just out trying to do her job, patrol like she was meant to. All in all Sherwood didn't mind this war but mostly because she hadn't run into any trouble yet.
Sherwood crossed a large patch of grass to go toward the woods, moving across town toward her favorite place to patrol. She felt the aura but thought it was so strong and far enough away that it wouldn't matter. She picked up her pace, though, and jogged ahead. The sooner she put distance between them the better she'd feel.
Though it would probably feel like running away.
Why didn't she believe in the buddy system more often? Newgrange at least, or a senshi?
Sherwood put her bow in hand rather than having it slung over her shoulder. It wouldn't do any good but at this point it couldn't hurt either.

Ah hah, that was the feeling she was hoping for. The aura of a knight not too far from her. Not the strongest thing she had ever sensed before, but it would have to do for tonight. And the lower rank folks could be pretty fun to play with.
Teleporting closer, she smiled when she saw the knight in question. It was a cute one! With a little bow, that was sweet. But did it have arrows, that was the question. Painite doubted it. Knights never had anything useful.
They were like Fail Negaverse soldiers. The sad kind before they were given the real power they needed. Not that Painite wasted her time corrupting anyone from the White Moon. They were wastes of time and, in her mind, deserved to suffer and die more than anything else.
"Well hello, little friend. How are you doing this fine evening?" Painite purred, chuckling as she sauntered closer. She already had her deadly looking spear in hand, so her almost warm words seemed even more hollow than they sounded.

Sherwood skidded to a stop when she felt Painite super close and jumped as she appeared from the shadows.
Uh-oh.
Instinctively she clutched the bow to her, gripping it with both hands, for all it would do against the deadly looking spear in Painite's hands. In fact the blade could probably split the wood if she tried to. The bow was a nice little wooden thing, supple and strong, but still small. Really, without arrows it had no use other than giving her the illusion that she was safe, had a purpose.
"I'm ok," she answered cautiously, backing up a step.
It was probably the kind of question that did not call for an answer but she could not help it. Nor could she stop the next one that tumbled from her lips.
"Who are you?"

Painite smiled at the timid answer, but there was nothing close to warmth or friendliness in the look. She had a wild look to her eyes, and a dangerous glint that rarely left her now. Ever since her encounter with death, she had not been quite right. If ever she could be called that, anyway.
It had always been a stretch to try and use that term.
"My name is General Painite. And you're my new little toy. I'm going to have fun playing with you, oh yes. Would you like to have some fun, little knight?"
Another mostly rhetorical question, and Painite did not wait for an answer. She moved her spear in front of her, holding it with both hands, and then charged forward, using the bottom end of it instead of the metal tipped top to swing an attack at Sherwood's midsection.
One of them was definitely going to have fun.

"I'd really rather not."
Sherwood was pretty sure she did not like Painite, and they had only just met.
She let out a terrified eep as the butt of the General's spear came her way, aiming for her belly. She thought a few curse words and brought up her bow futility, deflecting the blow a little but not enough to avoid the hit that knocked the wind from her lungs. She doubled over with an oof, her eyes watering.
Newgrange, Papa Camelot, anybody...
Sherwood was not having even the smallest bit of fun.
"I'm not a toy!" she cried, though she was pretty sure Painite wouldn't care about that. "What have I ever done to you?"
She swiped her bow wildly at her opponent hoping for at least a moment to catch her breathe. Cold fear was starting to grip her heart. She had told Arias once that this calling was not worth dying for. She was wondering if she'd get the chance to do it anyway...

"You're a knight. What else do I need?"
Painite laughed at the question, like it was the most ridiculous thing anyone had ever said to her. Why would any Nega hate a White Mooner, regardless of their faction? Because they were on the White Moon side of things. That is how it should be.
All the puttering around, pretending to be good and understanding and trying to be friends with the other side... that was stupid. Wasting time corrupting and purifying was pointless, too. Painite did not care about anything like that any more. All she wanted was to wipe them out.
One at a time, as the case may be.
Painite was not really scared of a little bow, and she laughed as Sherwood lashed out at her.
"No arrows, huh? How sad for you!" She turned her spear around, but used the movement as a slash at the knight, the blade moving from the ground and up, across her chest, though Painite was not aiming for a killing attack.

Sherwood could not fathom this. She'd been warned about the Negaverse but didn't think that they were so, so...evil! She had her breath coming back to her slower than she could imagine, or time just seemed slower when she couldn't breathe properly. Her bow seemed ineffectual, she had guessed as much, but it allowed her precious seconds.
No sooner had she caught her breath than she was screaming. Painite's spear ripped through her shirt and tore open her shoulder, red coating the cream of her top. She backed away, every instinct in her screaming to run though she couldn't do much more than back up, pace by pace. She had to keep her eyes on the General. Something said that if she lost sight of Painite she was done for, entirely.
Why, oh why didn't she have arrows? If she had a few arrows she could make her pay!
Except not as well with her pained shoulder.
She screamed again for good measure. Oh, God, somebody. Anybody! Help!

Camelot was very good at being in the right place at the right time. He often wished he was better at being there just before the right time, so he could at least do a little bit more to protect people that needed it. As it stood, though, he had good timing to show up when someone needed him the most.
He did not hear her screaming, but he felt the auras.
Painite's aura was all too familiar to him now, and he was not about to let her get away from him this time. As he was hurrying toward Painite, he felt another aura with her, smaller than hers and obviously White Moon. A knight. and familiar to Camelot as well.
His heart dropped to the pit of his stomach as he raced toward the duo.
Painite felt his massive aura as he approached and let out a feral growl, backing away from Sherwood mostly on instinct, though she had at least managed to leave her mark. She did not run yet, though, hoping to at least get one more attack in. Since Camelot was running in to save the day, Painite wanted to leave him with a disappointment. But she only had a few moments to try.
"Say goodbye, little knight!" Painite hissed, gripping her spear in both hands and hauling it over her head, stabbing it down at Sherwood, but only managing to strike a solid metal surface. Camelot had arrived, faster than she wanted. He was healed, it seemed. Swearing, Painite backed up, pulling her spear away from the large shield he had summoned and put between Painite and Sherwood. He stood protectively over the other knight, but did not look back at her yet.
He had learned the hard way not to take his eyes off Painite.

She felt the aura when it caught onto the edge of her radar, too late for her to hold out much hope. A bow did not trump a spear and though she knew how to use it she was not good enough with it to use it for close combat. Her back was against a tree and there was no where to go. Nothing she could do to stop her own demise.
"Papa Camelot," she whimpered. He was much too far and Painite was much too close and wanted her hurt, or worse.
Sherwood closed her eyes and thought of who she loved, Arias and her family. Westley, who she could have loved but might not have the chance to now. Papa Camelot, who would find her here. She tensed, waiting for the blow, saying goodbye.
It never fell.
Instead she heard the scrape of metal on metal and dared to crack an eye open.
"Camelot..." she breathed, hardly knowing how he got there. It seemed to break all the laws of physics but she was forever grateful. She hardly dared to hope she might be safe but from the look on Painite's face the General wasn't pleased.

Camelot wanted to look back at her, but for now his attention was set on Painite. He knew that Sherwood had been injured, but how badly would have to be discovered in a moment. Hopefully not too bad, but he saw blood in the blur of his running up.
"I'm here for you, Sherwood. Stay strong."
"How is it you always show up whenever I'm having fun? Do you know everyone in this goddamn town?" Painite was angry that he had shown up yet again in the eleventh hour, able to protect someone he apparently knew. It seemed like everyone she picked to attack ended up being tied to him, somehow, and their paths were always destined to cross.
One day, she would figure out how to defeat him. For now, though, she was at a disadvantage. It was clear to her that he was all but healed now, and that meant he had his full power available to him. She had no traps or other Negas to rely on, so, for now, she had to retreat. She did so by teleporting away, though Camelot did not let his guard down for a few moments more.
At length, not feeling her aura and not getting another attack from her as she was wont to do, he turned to kneel beside Sherwood.
"I'm here. You're safe now."
