Ruth had quietly watched and listened as the others in the strategy room searched for maps and volunteered to go out and explore to find the Great King. She didn’t try to stand out or volunteer herself or put herself forward. She neither saw nor felt any reason for it. There were plenty of fool-hardy knight-apprentices in the room but she never counted herself among them and felt some pride in this.
Which made her question her sanity on just why she was here, in the stables, examining the available ponies and horses. She decided that it was simply because it was what everyone else was doing and far be it for her to be questioned for going against a Great Knight’s... wishes? Request? Condescending and back-handed instruction seemed best to fit the bill.
In the end, the blonde woman selected a sad-looking gray gelding. Good. At least someone here knows how doomed they all were and how pointless this whole business of struggling and resisting was. She climbed on top, with some difficulty, and gave the rations she’d gotten another check. She didn’t know if it would be enough but she doubted it would be.

So far, so good. The trek forwards was a quiet one, with no company to create and maintain idle chatter for, and Ruth was pleased with the arrangement. Something about the silence in general felt like a welcomed balm. It was an odd thing to consider, now that she thought about it. Why did she feel as if refraining from speech was the best course of action she could take?
She was so engrossed in her pondering, so deep in thought that she failed to hear the buzzing up ahead. Her forehead not so much as brushed as smacked against the tip of a hive, frightening the insects within. The bees came out in an angry swarm and the horse, who seemed to have a better sense for survival, made a mad dash.
Unfortunately, the beast did not quite care whether it had a rider or not and as Ruth was swept off by a stray branch, the horse kept on running.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 35 YOUR HP: 30/30

Ruth wasn’t expecting the expedition to be easy, it was something the knight-apprentices had to undertake to prove their worth. It was a test. And that meant it was going to be a challenge. Whatever her expectations were, she was going to have to double it now that she was without a horse. The amount of time the trek would have taken, the amount of food she would have to consume to maintain her strength, thinking about it all made the blonde irritable.
She decided to rest for a moment, catch her breath and recheck her supplies and how she was supposed to ration them now. Cursing the wretched beast as she ate, Ruth only felt something land on her. She froze, hoping whatever it was had simply fallen as opposed to purposely jumped onto her. But the skittering of multiple legs sent shivers down her spine and Ruth mimicked the horse’s earlier action. The uneaten food was left behind and forgotten in her haste.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 25 YOUR HP: 30/30

Somehow, in her blind panic of mad running, she reached the Dwarf’s Fortress. The blonde woman felt the fatigue of the physical exertion catch up to her and was forced to rest. Again, she brought out food, hoping it would bolster her spirit (or at least give her enough strength to keep going.) She made a face as the first mouthful touched her tongue, it was certainly not palatable but it would do. It would have to do.
She paused, sniffed in the air. Something was burning? What idiot would have failed to keep their campfire in che- there was a loud roar and when Ruth turned to look, blue eyes all but popped out of their sockets at the sight of the great flaming thing.
She should have just stood there, awaiting fiery death. No one would have noticed she was missing and she’d come to terms with that already, hadn’t she? But her arms were moving of their own accord and she threw with all the strength her skinny arms could muster the closest thing she could reach.
Which unfortunately were her rations. The creature seemed curious and as it sniffed and licked, Ruth escaped.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 10 YOUR HP: 30/30

Breathing hard, it took Ruth some time to realize she’d manage to run all the way up the mountain. Truthfully she was dumbfounded at how she managed such a feat. But she wasn’t questioning her luck and would now pretend it was skill and ingenuity that allowed her to succeed.
"Ha!" she cheered as she managed to grab her prize: A Gauntlet. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to modulate her booming voice and caused an avalanche. She was swept up in the wave of snow and miraculously was carried all the way back down.QUEST STATUS Food remaining: 5 YOUR HP: 20/30
