Hobbies:
Cooking - You can't have Alex without cooking. Raised with the belief that the kitchen is the center of the home, and Alex being the caregiver she is, she took to it like a fish to water when her mother started teaching her in elementary, and she loves to be in the kitchen, making whatever it is that comes to mind. She was lucky enough to be gifted as a supertaster, which makes recreating things she loves out of the home in her own kitchen that much easier. The thing she loves most about cooking, however? The smile on other people's faces as they enjoy her food, chattering away at one another.
Bibliophile - Alex. Loves. Books. She loves to read, both fiction and non-fiction, but it extends far, far beyond that as well. She loves the idea of knowledge and imagination being embedded forever in pages another can read. She loves the smell, sight, and feel of books, and takes pleasure in reading a book, new or old, that is as much physical as it is mental. Her home has a whole room lined with shelves for books, and she may need a new shelf or three soon to accommodate newcomers.
Society for Creative Anachronism - She was introduced to the SCA in high school by a friend, when she lived in Arizona, and she hasn't looked back since. She's in love with it all, and holds the persona of Alexandria Sylverhawke, an Anglo-Saxon woman with a husband often away from home. She can often be found helping in the kitchen at feasts, and volunteering all over at events: gate, waterbearing, Pied Piper...heck, she's even autocrated a couple of events happily! She currently has a couple of baronial service awards, an award of arms, and an arts and sciences award. One of her favorite pass-times that she's picked up from the Society is illumination. There are more than a few award scrolls out there in the SCA that she is behind the illumination of, and she has a couple on her work table at home that she's working on as sort of her 'masterpieces'.
Drag Shows - No, seriously. Alex loves going to drag shows, and has more than a few friends who are drag queens and kings. She's even stepped a foot in them herself as an amateur drag king, preferring to look like a rotund Victorian gentlemen and use Abney Park and similar artists for music. She has a lot of fun with it.
Virtues:
Maternal - Alex is one of those people that 'mother' doesn't just mean that she's had kids; it means she looks after people. It means that she is prone to sitting someone down with a cup of soup and letting them unload after a bad day. It means that she's highly protective of those under the age of majority, or that otherwise tug at her maternal instincts. She's a caretaker through and through, and will put the needs of others ahead of herself generally.
Open-minded - Live outside of the 'norm'? Live inside the 'norm'? Alex doesn't care. So long as you're a good person, someone who doesn't go around being malicious on a regular basis, she'll give you at least a chance. Just because you do things or are into things she isn't, doesn't mean she's going to tell you to hit the road.
Stable - Alex doesn't rattle easily. She'll take life and disaster head-on and keep going, a rock in the midst of stormy seas for others. She's the sort who can let a situation hit her and just take it one step at a time, providing a sense of order in the midst of chaos for herself and others.
Flaws:
Gallows Humour - For all that she's an upbeat, maternal woman, Alex has a very dark sense of humor, and it can be, perhaps, off-putting for those who don't know her well or don't have an appreciation for it. She's the sort who will joke about taking a crochet mallet to a co-worker, or how at least we're not at war with Russia...or are we.
Frightening Temper - If Alex is yelling, you're still fine. She's frustrated, but she hasn't hit the end of her fuse. If she goes quiet and thoughtful, however...then you have to worry. Her temper is frightening in the quiet 'I'm going to kill you in your sleep' way, not the loud and violent way. Once the end of her fuse is reached, she's very quiet, thoughtful, vengeful, and sadistic. Thank goodness it takes quite a bit to hit that point. Unless you threaten her kids. Do not provoke the Mama Alex.
Order of the Pelican - Alex is, and always has been, a very self-sacrificing person. Others before herself, even when it might be of harm to her. She'll put in long hours to help others, she'll help out a friend with moving even if she just finished a double-shift at work, and she'll short herself on a meal a bit to ensure those around her have a full meal to eat. This has caused her a few health problems in the past as she wore herself down too thin, and she's given those close to her, even her adopted child Ally, permission to remind her when she's doing too much if she doesn't manage to catch herself.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: On the smaller side, dark blue.
Hair: Dark purple, near black. Very thick and tends to wave. Kept short, to her chin [though brushes the bottom of her neck when straightened]. Bangs are long enough to brush to one side or the other.
Face: Very round, fair-skinned. Thinner lips. Tends to wear very punkish makeup; greens, purples, blacks, blues, and the like.
Clothes: Alex's fashion hops from simple jeans and tees to full on gothic [with a leaning towards victorian goth], steampunk, grunge, or anything involving tie-dye, space, or fantasy themes. Her accessories tend to be bold, with handmade treasures from local artists and Etsy being a big thing for her. She sometimes wears a small gold cross or a pentacle gifted her by a very dear friend, one she considers her sister.

Squire: Kildare focuses on the Earth beneath her feet, taking a deep breath. When she releases it, young oak trees that are 1.5x her height sprout up in a ring around her, the area inside being 4ft in radius. The ring of trees repels those outside of it [Order or Chaos] until the magic is dismissed, by creating a spherical barrier. The barrier is invisible until something from outside makes contact with it: the contact point will flash dark green until the attack/item/person that made contact is no longer touching the barrier. Kildare cannot leave the ring of oaks, but can move about it until she dismisses it or it reaches its limit. It lasts up to 35 seconds.
