Beliefs and Values

Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.

All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.

What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods?

Alkidike Goddess
The Alkidikes worship the great tree Aisha as their mother and creator. While they might recognize other deities as the creators of other species, they find the pantheons of the other tribes to be foolish. They believe Aisha to be the supreme ruler. After all, she is a living, tangible part of Tendaji from which every one of their people is born. To them, this alone is enough proof of their racial superiority and entitlement to the entirety of Tendaji, not just Jauhar.

Shifters
The Shifters worship and revere the moon, whom they refer to as the goddess Serin. Their true connection to the moon has been disputed for as long as anyone can remember. They do not call it their creator. All they know is that, when the moon comes out, their skin turns silver. Clearly, they must be connected in some way.
Shifters believe in the existence of lesser gods (i.e. of rain, of tides, of forests, etc.), but the names of these lesser deities vary and are often quite personal to individuals. The earthlings recognize that others may call these same deities by different names, and accept them as the same gods with different titles.

Lumikani felt the energy humming through the air as her village began to prepare for the summer festival. Up above in the trees, everyone seemed to ignore her presence, which was fine with her. Watching her sisters suited her just fine, and as she settled against the rough bark the youngling took a moment to really think about everything that was in the back of her mind.

Aisha was always a figure in her thoughts, the driving force that pushed her on when she was feeling doubtful or questioning who she was inside. There was never a weakness, because she wasn't made to be weak despite what others may think. Even with her smaller form, she still was a sister and an Alkidike, and the great mother created her in her image. No, instead she used the thoughts of Aisha to keep her positive and strong, and to fuel her to break beyond the appearance that she had taken on. Aisha blessed her with this form, and she did it for a reason. For that, Lumikani would forever be thankful.

As Lumikani brushed her palms against the bark, she imagined touching Aisha herself, the thought sending chills across her skin.

Someday, soon, she would make the journey across the waters to the island where their mother resided, where she bloomed for the first time. The energy she imagined that flowed through the trees of her home would be nothing compared to when she finally laid sight on the true mother.

This celebration was the first step for her to show her mother how worthy she was of this form, of being blessed to come from a flower and not from one of the Earthlings of the land. She wouldn't call herself bitter or angry, but she had grown up understanding the true power of the lands, and knew that even her young newphew was at a disadvantage. His skin was different, his eyes as well, and it showed a different ruler had looked down upon him.

Gripping the bark harder, Lumikani knew that she was thankful he was with them if just to understand his blessing with Aisha. He was blessed to follow in her path instead of that of the other gods. The thought of nameless gods that others followed, that others would willingly move away from the trees and toward the darkness outside to pray to a worthless figure angered her. Aisha was tangible, she was in the trees that she climbed and in the air that they breathed. She gave and she took away. She watched over them every morning and tucked them in every night. There was no proof no matter what others claimed, there was no god or goddess out there like their mother. And if there was, if there was a god or goddess, they were not here, in the woods or in the trees, and for that Lumikani was thankful.

For no matter what those foolish others called them, the only true mother was Aisha, and if any turned her away they would be turning away life. That was the most important lesson any Alkidike could take away from their learning, and one Lumikani took to heart more than any other. She knew her size was different, but her blood was pure and her flower had bloomed.

Her creator had chosen her to breathe life into, and would continue to give her the strength to move forward.

A cry came from down below, and Lumikani looked out to see a sister was waving for her to come. The festivities were about to begin, and it was time for her to thank Aisha once more for everything. For life, for love, and for strength. Lumikani was an Alkidike sister, and it was her duty to give what thanks she could day in and day out. This day, although important, was nothing special compared to any other. It simply was a little longer in prayer, and a little louder in thanks.

With that thought in mind, Lumikani moved to jump down from the trees, and make her way toward her sisters. Maybe today would be a good time to speak with her mothers about visiting the great tree and speaking with the great mother and creator. Now was as good of a time as any, for she felt strong and ready despite her youth and size. Looking back up at the trees, Lumikani tried to imagine what Aisha would look like, what her leaves would be in color and shape, before rushing off to find someone and quell her thirst for knowledge.
