The morning was crisp and cool when the ebony mare stepped out into the meadow by the family home. Well, it wasnt her family home. It had been quite some time since she had moved back home to the place where her mother, grandfather, and uncle lived and though she had needed their support at the time she felt as though it was time to return to the home that she and Zuzu had made together. To be honest, Linn had not been ready for Zuzu to set out on his quest to become a shaman. She had been told that he may be gone for quite some time, but the reality of his absence had not hit her until she was faced with the stark emptiness of her home once Zul'brin had left. It had been too much for the social mare to take and she had collapsed emotionally. She had needed the company. She had, more than she knew at the time, needed someone to take care of. And the lack of occupants, her mate Zuzu, her adopted son Payton, her adopted daughter Brin... had destroyed her. Linn took a deep breath, taking in all the scents of the morning; the damp scent of dew, sweet scent of flowers as they bloomed, the robust scent of warm moist earth. It sent a smile spreading across her maw as she cantered into the open area to graze.

A crimson eye blinked a few times at the sight. Brin lay not too far from the edge of the meadow, hunkered down with her head under her wing as she attempted to sleep, but she could not resist peeking at her surroundings as the sound of someone nearby caught her attention. It had been a long.... Long time since Brin had seen a smile come from her mother. Actually, that would be a lie. Aislinn smiled quite frequently, but not like this. Her smiles were usually soft and small, remnants of happiness instead of full fledged joy. This smile, on the other hand, was full and vibrant. Brin lifted her head and turned to watch as her mother stepped out into the sunlight. Sure enough there was a bit more pep in her step. She got to her hooves, the branches around her bending and breaking with loud snaps as she pressed against them. She turned, using the blades on her tail to cut away the branches that she could instead of continuing to move through them, and joined her mother. "You..." Brin began with a small, toothy, smile. "You seem to be having a good day." She finished, choosing this phrase as opposed to others. She didnt want to possibly ruin what could be a very pleasant change.

Linn lifted her head at the sound of calamity behind her, but didnt jump or run. She wasnt startled in the slightest. For her, it was a comforting sound; it meant that her daughter was near by. She finished chewing her mouthful and swallowed, giving a purposefully thoughtful expression to Brin's statement. "Oh?" She questioned, flashing a smirk. "I hadnt noticed." She flicked her hair out of her face and looked up at Brin. She paused, simply looking at her daughter with a sot smile. "I didnt do too bad, did I?" She asked before bumping Brins leg with her rump.

Ah, there was that fire that had always been present as she had grown up. Brin shook her head and chuckled before bumping Linn back, though very lightly so not to knock over the smaller mare. "Well, I guess it all depends on what you are talking about." Brin thought for a moment before giving a soft smirk of her own. "For example, if you are talking about your hairstyle, you did a horrible job." She was joking of course, she adored the long soft ebony waves. "If you would like I can try to fix it for you." She added, brandishing her tail blade.

Linn shook her head, chuckling all the while. "And have a poof of a mane? At this length it is just the perfect weight to keep these waves fro curling up into a ball of fluff around my head." Of course, Linn did not know whether or not this was true. It sounded comical in her head though, and that was all that mattered. "No... I meant with you. With the family. I didnt do too bad." She shrugged and looked to the ground, using the tip of her hoof to draw tiny doodles in the trodden grass beneath them. They, the doodles, disappeared instantly as the blades shifted and after a moment she had mustered the gumption to look back up at her daughter. "Or, at least, I dont think I did too bad."

As her mother spoke the larger mare listened. She didn't move, nor speak, even in the moments of silence that accompanied the explanation of the mare's question. Brin couldn't see why her mother would even think to ask such a question. To her, who had been adopted into a home of a land walking regular and a troll before they knew what she was; who had been, upon emerging from her basket, welcomed with open hearts; who had been raised as though she was of her adopted parents own flesh and blood - To her, there could be no doubt. She waited until her mother looked up. "Of course you did. I would not be who I am today if it were not for you." She offered a soft smile and draped a wing over Linns side reassuringly. But the curiosity was still there, and Brin could not shake it from her mind. "Why?"

Linn, to be honest, hadn't truly expected to hear a reply to her question from Brin. Though she had indeed earnestly asked she had assumed that her daughter would take it as more of a statement or a rhetorical question and disregard it with some sort of joke. She would have even expected Brin to say no with a smirk. But her daughter honestly answering her brought a heat to her cheeks, and if her pelt were not so dark someone may have been able to see the rosy hue of embarrassment flush her face. However, despite how much the answer had not been expected, it was gratefully welcomed and refreshingly reassuring. Coupled with the 'hug' Linn could feel a great weight being lifted metaphorically from her shoulders. She looked out over the clearing for a moment, then to the sun rising into the sky almost as though she was looking at them for the first time. A smile spread uncontrollably across her face, and she leaned into Brin before stepping out from her feathery cover and beginning to make her way across the clearing. She turned to look over her shoulder, peeking at Brin through ebony locks before giving a wink. "Lets go home."
