After a long and humiliating span of time spent on the opposite end of the island, being prodded and shoved into a cold and very public shower; Otto returned home to his apartment. The walls were finally finished, and the furniture steadily being rearranged. Any further work to be done was ignored in favour of a bath. He'd been clean already, of course. But this bath was for more emotional cleansing. He wanted to be alone, he wanted to be warm and sink into something comforting.
He didn't have the energy or heart to cry, even though he really felt he needed to. He replayed it in his head despite the pain it brought. Sasha had turned on him. He'd once again give all hid trust to someone, opened himself to them. And for what? She didn't really like him. She didn't really want him to be happy or safe.
She'd wanted the key in his hand.
The manner in which she'd reacted had scared him stiff. He'd never seen her like that. Was it the infection that did it? But even Maebe had said she was more than what he'd seen. And she was right.
He'd hurt Maebe too. One more bullet to his heart. He'd not trusted her. He'd trusted the wrong woman.
He sank into the scalding bath, wishing the burning water could take away the pain of being himself. His terrible judgement and his looming fate. Just what was this key? Was he in terrible danger? More than he knew?
No one could help him. A higher up? That was also a bad idea. Mimsy? He'd said he'd let her see to him, but after this stint with Sasha.... maybe he'd misjudged her too.
So this was it. He was alone.
Completely alone, and doomed to have something terrible happen.
