Mercy had dreaded the end of her third secret lesson with Chailee, because she knew that it was the last time she was going to be able to ride a horse without her father knowing about it. She had thanked the other girl - given her a friendly hug and then had gone home. She had planned on telling her father that night about the lessons - about wanting to learn how to ride but he'd been in a crappy mood - and it was late so she hadn't dared to call or text Chailee to come and give her the moral support she needed. She blew it off for a week - but when she woke up Saturday she knew she had to tell him - she'd promised Chailee and she didn't want to damage their newly formed friendship. She picked up her phone, and fired off a quick text to the other girl. Text to Chay Chay, it's Mercy... Uhm... remember how you said you'd help me tell my Dad about the lessons? Well... Mom is out with my brothers so it's now or never... I can have him take me to meet you if you're free... She chewed her lip... and typed a little more. Text to Chay, Cont. ... please? I really need the help I'm so nervous!

Chay was enjoying a lazy Saturday morning. She had nothing pressing to do and had decided to take the time to just relax in bed and catch up on some sleep. In fact, she was just getting ready to roll back over for the third time when her phone vibrated on her nightstand. Pushing herself up onto her elbows she reached over and grabbed the offending device. Seeing the text from Mercy Chay rolled over onto her back, tucking the covers around her body in the process before typing a quick message back. Text to Mercy That's fine. Where would you like to meet up? Somewhere public or the stable? Hitting the send button she sighed and stretched in the bed enjoying the last few moments of laziness before pushing her covers off of herself to start getting ready. "Well, at least I am not going to waste the day in bed now." She stifled a yawn before moving to her dresser to dig around for clothes.

Text to Chay The MALL! If I ask him to drive me to the stables he'll know -.-;! But we can meet at the food court? Just grab a table and I'll lead him there... Plus that way he can't make a huge scene <.<; Mercy stood up and nervously smoothed down her skirt, adjusted her top - she was HATING her new bust - and tidied up her room a bit while she waited for a reply.

text to Mercy Alright. I'll be there in about a half an hour. And relax, everything will be fine. smile Throwing on a pair of jeans Chailee rooted around in her dresser before pulling out a basic pink t-shirt and a black cami. Throwing the two shirts on she looked at her hair in the mirror and groaned in dismay. There was no saving it with the little bit of time that she had. So she quickly began to work the frizzy mess into a slightly less frizzy french braid and finished it off with a pink rubber band. Bits and pieces of curls popped out from the plait but looked presentable enough. Grabbing her sneakers she slipped them on quickly before leaving her room. Hurrying down the stairs she quickly convinced her dad to take her to the mall and within 15 minutes were heading out the door. After arriving Chailee did as Mercy suggested and headed for the food court. She quick grabbed herself a breakfast sandwich at one of the restaurants and an orange juice before sitting down at one of the numerous tables. At this time of day the food court itself wasn't overly busy but there were more than enough people passing by as they moved from store to store. Chailee made a point to keep her eyes open for Mercy while she munched down her breakfast.

It took a little longer for Mercy to beg and cajole her father into taking her to the mall, but once they were there, he grabbed him by the hand and dragged him to the food court. It really didn't take her that long to identify Chay. When she did, she waved at the other girl and dragged her father over, sitting down and sighing a little as he father did so to. He was a fit looking man, given his age, His hair was cut short and well groomed. He wore a well trimmed beard, giving him a somewhat lion-like appearance given it's rusty red hue. It was easy to see that Mercy took after her father's side of the family. His steel-grey eyes were looking between the two girls as he steepled his fingers, waiting for Mercy or Chay to begin speaking. "So... Uhm... Daddy, this is Chay and we have something we need to tell you." Mercy began biting her lip and fidgeting a little in her chair. "You see... uhm... Chay and I... that is to say... Chay has..." Mercy started to fumble only to stop when her father raised a hand. "It's okay Mercy, I think I know what is going on..." her father said slowly, sighing a little. "I... I had hoped you'd wait till you were a little older, but I guess I really can't stop you."Mercy blinked for a moment readily confused. "Daddy... what are you - " "Mercy, sweetie, if you want to date a girl it's okay - that's... like the thing now right?" Her father smiled. "I mean... I just want you to be happy."Mercy's tanned skin started to take on a deep reddish hue as she slowly lowered her head to the table with a low, low groan. Could it get any worse?

Chailee smiled warmly as Mercy and her father made themselves comfortable at the table she had picked out. She didn't say anything off the bat. Instead she wanted Mercy to be the one to initially tell him what had been going on. Also, it gave her a chance to really look at Mercy's father. She had to admit, he didn't appear very stern. She had met many men who were very strict and stern and all of them seemed to have a certain appearance about them that radiated that personality but Mercy's dad seemed welcoming if a bit uneasy with the two of them. As Mercy began to fumble her way through telling her dad what had been going on Chailee felt bad for her. In fact she was getting ready to come to her rescue when Mercy's dad chimed in. And Chailee's face went red. Mind. She couldn't help but laugh at the same time but she was completely embarassed as well. Maybe not so much as Mercy, but the fact that he had assumed that they were...uh...dating was a bit much for Chay's fragile teen ego. "Uh...we aren't...I mean...we aren't seeing each other...in...that way." Chailee said a bit awkwardly. "I mean, we've been seeing each other but not because we're uh...dating." Great. Now I am not able to talk right."I mean, I've been helping Mercy to learn how to ride." She rushed the words out then looked from Mercy's dad to Mercy as if pleading for the girl to continue on.

Mercy looked up as Chay began to try and correct the obvious misunderstanding of her father, then quickly swooped in when it became obvious it wasn't getting properly cleared up. Her father's eyes were starting to get a little wide, and his normally mocha-tan skin was starting to get a bit livid. "Horses, Daddy... Chay's been teaching me how to ride horses... Only she made me promise to tell you after three lessons so..." She waved her hands in front of her. "Here we are." Her father looked between the two girls for a moment, rubbing his face with his hands before placing them on the table, finger drumming the laminated wood for a moment as he sat in thought - calculating his reply. It was a rare thing for Samuel Haynes to jump to conclusions. "Miss Chay," he began, turning his attention to the girl. "First, let me apologize for jumping to conclusions, I didn't mean to cause you any embarrassment." He turned his attention to his daughter then, and it was her turn to pale. "While, I am relieve that you aren't dating Mercy - I am disappointed that you didn't tell me right from the start. We could have gotten you proper equipment and seen to it that you were properly prepared..." He turned his attention back to Chailee again. "Ms. Chay - thank you for teaching my daughter - and for making her tell me. If you would be so kind - would it be possible for you to refer a good riding instructor, as well as provision us with a list of essential equipment?" Mercy cautiously started to light up. "No rush of course... Mercy won't be starting up until she's done being grounded... which will be the start of next month if she behaves herself." Mr. Haynes said. Mercy sank back into her chair a little bit. "Also, what do I owe you for her lessons?" He said, reaching into his pocket - presumably for his wallet.

Chailee was happy when Mercy jumped back in and managed to clear up everything. The whole introduction to these little riding lessons to her father had almost turned into a complete disaster. Thankfully the crisis had been averted and no one seemed to have any hurt feelings. "No it's alright." She laughed. "I can see how you would jump to the idea of the two of us dating with how we set this up." It seemed that, despite Mercy's worries, that her father was being much more calm about the whole idea of her riding. Maybe even supportive of the idea. Of course though the whole punishment thing made Chay wince in sympathy for her friend. "Oh, um, sure. There's a few riding instructors at the stable who I am sure would take on another student. They'll give you a list of stuff she'll need too." Chay looked at Mercy with an 'I am sorry' expression as the girl looked a bit dejected in her seat. Being grounded wasn't all that bad considering how Mercy's dad could have taken all of this news. "Oh! You don't owe me anything." She smiled. "Mercy's a friend and we had a lot of fun together in her lessons. It'll be really nice to see her around the stable more and hopefully, soon, we'll be able to go on trail rides together!"

Mr. Haynes nodded slowly, removing his hand from his pocket before looking between the two girls. "I would have liked to have known sooner... But I'm sure Mercy was concerned that I would be... overprotective." He stressed that last word a tad too much. "But, in the interests of proving I'm not a complete stick in the mud, I think I can let her grow up a little bit... Just this once." He gave his daughter a small smile before nodding to her friend. "Well, I might could be convinced to lighten her sentence a tad - based on you vouching that she did really well and seems to have a passion for this." He though for a moment. "Are you sure there's nothing I can do for you? I just feel wrong not repaying you for helping Mercy."

Chailee tried not to let on that his overprotectiveness was exactly what had worried Mercy but a small wince at the stressed word had to have surely given her away. She didn't say anything though and was pleased to see that he was being really calm about all of it! "Oh, she did really well I promise. Willow, my horse, was completely relaxed with Mercy. I would say she's a natural." She grinned and winked at her friend. "No, I don't need anything, but thank you!" Chailee picked up her orange juice and took a sip of it. "I enjoyed teaching Mercy! It was nice to hang out with someone besides just Willow at the stables." She laughed. "There aren't too many girls at the stable my age so having Mercy around will be perfect!"

Mr. Haynes nodded slowly, looking between the two for a moment before finally clearing his throat. "I suppose a whole month is a bit... severe. Two weeks then - and I suppose you can keep your phone since you and Miss Chay will probably want to try and coordinate class times." He drummed his fingers together for a moment before he slowly got up. "Was there anything else you needed to tell me Mercy? Or is this all?" Mercy looked up at her father and nodded slowly. "This was it Daddy." "Well if Ms. Chay doesn't have any other plans I'm sure the two of you would like to congratulate yourselves on successfully getting you into lessons... But I need to get home and get back to work. Your grounding can start officially tomorrow." He looked to Chay and smiled. "Will you need a ride home? Or are you good? I don't know if you two wanted to stay here or if you needed to get home?"

Chailee beamed when Mercy's dad hinted he wasn't going to punish Mercy for a full month and gave her friend a week. Sure, it was still rough, but 2 weeks was MUCH better than a whole month! "I am really looking forward to hanging out with Mercy more." She smiled happily before gulping down the rest of her orange juice while Mercy and her dad talked briefly. "Oh no, I think I'll walk around the mall for a little while since I am here. Hopefully Mercy wants to hand out a bit today?" She looked at the girl questioningly before continueing. "Thanks for offering though. My dad will pick me up later."

"I'm good to walk!" Mercy said, straightening up almost instantly with a smile to Chay. She could use some time out of the house, plus she wanted to chit-chat with Chay some more. She didn't have a lot of friends her age, so it was great to have one that she could swap experiences with. Her father nodded. "Well then, I will leave you girls to it. It was a pleasure, Miss Chay." He nodded his head then, and walked out of the food court, making his way toward the parking lot. Mercy colored a bit a she lowered her gaze once he left. "Uhm, sorry about my dad... he can get a bit... Jumpy. I should have warned you."

Chailee smiled. "Same!" And she gave a small wave as Mercy's dad headed off to go do whatever adults did on their weekends. Turning to Mercy, Chailee laughed. "It's alright. I mean, I know how my dad can be. He's just as bad sometimes." She winked before standing up and grabbing the red tray that had held her breakfast and now was just littered with an empty cup and crumpled wrapper. She deposited the tray and garbage at a nearby trash can before walking back over to Mercy. "At least he's only grounding you for a little while. I mean...compared to a month it's much better!" "So, is there any store you want to hit up? Anything you need? I know I wouldn't mind shopping around for a new dress or something." She grinned. It was nice to hang out with another girl her age and do some girly things like shopping and trying on clothes.

"Oh yeah, two weeks is nothing!" Mercy chuckled. "I mean it still sucks - but I'm sure it'll just fly by." "I'm game for anything, I mean - if we find anything with a unicorn on it I'm calling dibs right now!" She giggled a bit finally able to relax now that her father was gone. "And I am totally down for dress shopping! I could use a few more nice ones, it's getting warm out." Kolina OMG I can't believe I missed this one.
