Nuri was bored.
His father had dragged him away from his training, and away from the heat of the lands. The dry heat of Oba was replaced with the humidity of Jauhar, and the Prentice was glad he wore loose and light leathers. For some reason, his father was determined to take him on one of the many trips to scout out new merchant trade routes, a trip often meant for his elder brother. Normally, the merchant noble wouldn't go this far north into the once-ravaged lands of their enemies, and that could be why he took his younger son along. The looks the dark-skinned oban received were not looks of welcome and warmth.
No, this was not the welcoming settlement of Neued, the place that held the most diverse population of Earthlings. This was Sol, a place still reeling from the recent war, and one that made Nuri stick close to the cart that held his father's stockpile of merchandise. It had been about an hour since his father and brother had left to speak with another traveling merchant to discuss the possibility of trade in the area, as well as the threat of the bandits that lined the border.
Nuri circled the cart with a tight back, finding it hard to relax with the bustling crowds of shifters that seemed to brush a little too close to him as the market picked up as the day moved on.

Yejide had somehow been planted in Sol for over a week now, why she was unable to leave she had no idea, but she chalked that up to finally seeing her brother... and knowing he was close by she was more than a little hesitant to just walk away now.
But such was life and she needed to be able to provide for herself. She had spent the week picking slowly from the market stalls, houses, people in the crowded canopy walkways and the forest streets. Now that the war was over, people seemed to be more inclined to keeping their feet on the ground rather than the shifter's way of being plenty of feet off of the floor.
It was getting toward lunchtime and Yejide was out to grab her next meal. She rounded a market stall and picked out a loaf of bread with the nimble swipe of her fingers and was gone before anyone knew it. She spotted a cart to the side of the market... with an Oban boy keeping guard. She could see the goods in the cart, things that could be sold to keep her fed for days. In a split second she had decided it was worth it. She pushed her bag with her stolen bread further behind her and tried to meld with the crowd of shifters around her, pulling a scarf up and around her head. She wouldn't blend in like she would have in Oba, but at least her face would be harder to spot. She sidled up to the side of the cart and with the flow of the crown picked a smaller bauble off of the top, shoving it into her pants pocket.

Nuri moved again with the crowd, his back to where Yejide approached. Everything about him was tense as he was surrounded by the crowd, the dark skin of the shifters causing him to grow anxious. This was the first time he truly caught sight of the other earthlings, and they seemed just as uncomfortable as he. In fact, he saw quite a few sneers and jeers as they passed, some even sending him glares before they moved. The years from the war still left a bitter taste in both sides, and Nuri knew that it would be best to get back to the cart and away from the crowd.
As he turned, his eyes caught a flash of color, something not quite right compared to the group around him. It was simple and subtle, but enough for him to take notice and pin point to a figure draped with a scarf around their head. She was close to the cart, very close, and all at once he bristled. He wasn't sure what was going on, but judging from the way she seemed to play with her pockets, he didn't have a good feeling with her presence by his father's goods.
Quickly, he moved over to her side, and made his voice low enough to not raise alarm, but for her to hear.
"Put back whatever it is you took. I will only ask you once."

Yejide had barely had time to move her hand from her pocket before she had someone speaking into her ear. It was the Oban keeping guard over the cart. She didn't turn her head, didn't even stop. It was better to keep going and not let him get a good look at her.
"I don't know what you're talking about." She said with a shrug of her shoulders. He hadn't seen anything. Couldn't have seen anything. She smirked, her face still shadowed in her scarf.

Nuri took a moment to second guess himself, one simple moment of uncertainty before he grew even more angry. He knew what he saw, and he saw her get closer than any other.
"I wasn't born yesterday." He grumbled, resisting the urge to grab and shake her so her scarf fell off and he could look into her eyes. It seemed that the people close to them backed off a bit, some still shooting glares his way that he continued to ignore.
"I was brought here to ensure nothing would be taken from this cart, so put back what you have swiped, and walk away. You may think you are quick, but I can assure you that you wont get very far."
He knew it was a very bold threat, but his training provided him with stamina and he was close enough to hopefully catch her before she made her way into the crowd.

He was stopping her from her clean getaway. It was irritating to say the least, and she could feel some of the closer bystanders' eyes on her back. He was already peaking enough interest just by his skin that the interaction was being noticedand soon she would be too. She grunted and put her hands on her hips, turning to face the Oban. "What are you gonna do if I don't put back what I supposedly took? You gonna pat me down?" She scoffed.
He couldn't prove she had taken anything unless he put his hands on her, and she was pretty sure with all the glares surrounding them that that wasn't an option.

"I'll make sure you are tied down first before I search every pocket and bag on your body." His response was immediate, and he moved in to grab her arm. She seemed to assume that she could get away with anything, but considering he was guarding the merchant's wares, he was also confident in his right to check her person.
"If you are truly innocent, you shouldn't mind me checking your belongings to prove it."
The smugness in his voice was clear, and he seemed quite keen on his logical conclusion, "Only someone guilty would resist as much as you do.".
