Welcome to Dragonflight's....Dragon Flight System!

Everybody loves Flights and the baby dragons that result. Because of the way political attitude have shifted in Dragonflight, clutches are much more frequent for the In-Character World. As such there are several changes to the way breeding is being handled in Dragonflight.

Official versus Unofficial Clutches
    > Official Clutches will those events where an IC Flight translates into PC Dragons being handed out.
    > Unofficial Clutches are those clutches that result from IC Flights but are not associated with PC Dragons being handed out.
    > Unofficial Clutches will NEVER have a gold egg among them.
    > Unofficial Clutches will occur ICly but off-screen, where it is assumed NPCs Impressed the new dragons.
    > Official Clutch make-up will be determined by the Staff.
    > Unofficial Clutch make-up will be determined by dice rolls the players will make (see below)
    > Approved Characters, that is PC Characters, cannot Impress in Unofficial Clutches.
    > It has not explicitly been mentioned before so it is being emphasized here. Official Clutches will have a number of PC Eggs and number of NPC Eggs. A clutch will not consist solely of the PC Eggs.

If Your Character Rides a Gold
    > Golds will rise once a Turn with dependably regularity.
    > 1/Turn will be defined as Once Per 6 IRL Months.
    > A Goldrider player may hold a Flight (according to that frequency) at will.
    > Gold clutches will be between 10 and 45 eggs, determined by a dice randomizer by the Goldrider Player
    > Clutch Make-up will be determined by rolling d100s equal to the number of eggs. Match the numbers to the provided colour break down to see what the resulting clutch is like.
    > 1 - 2 Silver; 3 - 5 Crimson; 6 - 10 Black; 11 - 54 Green; 55 - 81 Blue; 82 - 96 Brown; 97 - 100 Bronze
    > The Clutch is Unofficial unless otherwise noted, Goldriders will be notified when/if their clutch will be Official
    > If the Gold breeding rules are not followed by a player, that gold will not be considered for an Official Clutch from the infraction forward.
    > Post/Roll your clutch information in the Flight Thread associated with your dragon for Unofficial Clutches (do not delete posts)

If Your Character Rides a Breeding Crimson
    > Crimsons will rise up 3 times per Turn
    > 3/Turn will be defined as Once Per 2 IRL Months.
    > A Crimsonrider player may hold a Flight (according to the above frequency) at will.
    > Crimson clutches will be between 5 and 20 eggs, determined by a dice randomizer by the Goldrider Player
    > Crimsons ONLY clutch about 20% of the time. To determined the success of a Flight, roll 1d100 at the beginning of the flight. If it is either 1-10 or 90-100, the Flight is successful and the Crimson clutches.
    > IF a Crimson clutches, the Clutch Make-up will be determined by rolling d100s equal to the number of eggs. Match the numbers to the provided colour break down to see what the resulting clutch is like.
    > 1 - 6 Silver; 7 - 15 Crimson; 16 - 30 Black; 31 - 63 Green; 64 - 87 Blue; 88 - 98 Brown; 99 - 100 Bronze
    > The Clutch is Unofficial unless otherwise noted, Crimsonriders will be notified when/if their clutch will be Official
    > If the Crimson breeding rules are not followed by a player, that breeding crimson will not be considered for an Official Clutch from the infraction forward.
    > > Post/Roll your clutch information in the Flight Thread associated with your dragon for Unofficial Clutches (do not delete posts)

Flight Windows
Flight Windows are just rule-based break downs of the IRL Year into sections so that the 1/Turn and 3/Turn rates are observed. Dragonflight operates at a Time Conversion of 1 IRL Month = 2 IC Months.

    > Gold Windows: Window A = Jan-June; Window B = July-December
As long as a Gold Rises only once per window, you're golden!
When in each window is entirely up to you! If your Gold Rises in Nov, she may Rise in Feb but then she couldn't Rise again until July at the earliest.
How Regular or Irregular your dragon is, is up to you.

    > Crimson Windows: Window A = Jan-Feb
    Window B = Mar-April
    Window C = May-June
    Window D = July-August
    Window E = Sept-Oct
    Window F = Nov-Dec
Crimsons Rise up to 3/Turn, so as long as it is at least 2 IRL Months since your last Flight, you're fine.
This means you can have up to 6 Flights/IRL Year.

    > Please Note: Eggs take a little while to form, be laid, and then harden before Hatching. I'm going to say this takes up to 1 Month IRL (2 Months ICly), meaning you have a wait period of 1 IRL before your breeding dragon may Rise again, regardless of where the Flight fell in the Window Schedule. Remember this when planning your dragon's Flights!

    > It is assumed a Flight happens ICly; you don't have to RP it out if you don't feel like it. It's just fun when you do!

Now as we all know, when a man loves a woman...er, a green gets all kinds of proddy and decides it's time to do certain things, everyone in the Weyr knows what's going on.

* If you have any questions at all, please PM Dragonflight_pern ( as she set this up ) and she'd be more than happy to answer any and all questions!

Flight options for riders

We all know how flights affect dragons. When a female comes into season she rises, is chased by males who are interested in her and chooses either the strongest or simply the one she likes the most to be her mate. Often the riders of the female dragon and the victorious male will take a tumble in the furs together but this is not always the case, and nor is the stance of any Weyr that riders of female dragons ought to just lie down and accept whatever male wins their dragon. If they don't want to do it they don't have to; there are options.

For those who do not wish to accept the outcome of the flight there are two main options. The first of these is simple: to lock themselves alone in a private place and allow things to run their course. The second option is to select a stand-in to lock themselves away with, and let things run their course in company. Both of these choices are completely accepted, and education about them is a part of everyone's Weyrling training. The first option is often employed by young riders, for example, because their dragons mature before they do.

It is no more acceptable to force yourself upon another person during a flight than it is at any other time. Even if they are eventually carried away by the feelings of the Flight they must give consent, otherwise it is still a crime that is dealt with seriously. If any rider is concerned that in the heat of the moment their conduct might be less than perfect - or just counter to their wishes when not under the influence of dragons - they are encouraged to have a friend or friends to look after them.

The phrase “the dragon decides, the rider complies” is not strictly adhered to in Dragonflight. While the dragon’s choice of mate will often strongly influence the rider’s choice of a lover, the rider does retain some semblance of coherence throughout the whole encounter and can choose to isolate themselves. First Flights are often overwhelming new experiences where the phrase holds true but after that point, most if not all riders become accustomed to high-running hormones of the Weyr and are better able to control themselves. Those riders that insist it be the ‘golden rule’ are often viewed as arrogant or backwards because of the lack of choice this implies.

----------------------------------------------

1 - Create a thread in the OOC forum for flight sign-ups.
  • Current dragon rising
  • people sign up to chase the dragon
  • have a sign up end date/time so that way people can be on

2 - Dice game!
  • Golds get 5-6 numbers depending on their stamina ( basically rolling 5 or 6 d20 )
  • Crimsons get 4-5 numbers depending on their stamina ( 4 - 5 d20 )
  • Greens get 3-4 numbers depending on their stamina ( 3 - 4 d20 )

3 - Rolls for the boys
  • Blue:
    Strength: 1d20
    Speed: 4d20
    Toughness: 1d20

  • Brown:
    Strength: 2d20
    Speed: 2d20
    Toughness: 2d20

  • Bronze:
    Strength: 3d20
    Speed: 1d20
    Toughness: 3d20

Each dragon also gets 3d20 to assign to stats of their choice to reflect their individual strengths. If your dragon is small or slim for their color, for instance, you may choose to add to their speed, or if they're large or muscular, to their strength, or if they're...well, tough, to their toughness! You may assign the 3 extra dice where you see fit, but please do so in a way that makes sense for your dragon - a big honkin' bronze probably shouldn't be rolling a 4d20 for speed.

4 - How does this work
  • Rising dragon generates set amount of numbers
  • Chasing dragons will roll to match numbers.
  • First to match all the numbers of the rising dragon wins

  • During this time RP is not optional.
  • Each post must have an action in it
  • The rising dragon does not roll again, but will make an action post of her own after each contestant has rolled, specifying the specific stat to be used

5 - Optional ( but fun ) RP
  • PG-13 rating/fade to black
  • Lasts not longer than three days tops
  • Monitored by DF Staff

There are going to be stats involved: strength, speed, and toughness. The base dice for each color are as follows:

Blue:
Strength: 1d20
Speed: 4d20
Toughness: 1d20

Brown:
Strength: 2d20
Speed: 2d20
Toughness: 2d20

Bronze:
Strength: 3d20
Speed: 1d20
Toughness: 3d20

Each dragon also gets 3d20 to assign to stats of their choice to reflect their individual strengths. If your dragon is small or slim for their color, for instance, you may choose to add to their speed, or if they're large or muscular, to their strength, or if they're...well, tough, to their toughness! You may assign the 3 extra dice where you see fit, but please do so in a way that makes sense for your dragon - a big honkin' bronze probably shouldn't be rolling a 4d20 for speed.

For example, Pipith's size is 'very small,' while his build is 'average,' so he's a little dude for his color, but a pretty stout one. According to his character profile, he's also really tough! So in his case, I'd give him 1 extra die in Speed and the other 2 dice in Toughness, ultimately giving him 3d20 Strength, 2d20 Speed, and 5d20 Toughness.

The Flight will still be a number-matching game, at the beginning of which the gold will roll a 6d20 for the numbers the boys need to match, but each post of the gold's will specify which dice the boys need to use. If, for instance, she takes a sudden dive, I will indicate that they should use their Speed dice. If she decides to hassle them and shed some ichor, you may get a choice between Toughness (to take the hit) or Speed (to dodge it). Please pay careful attention to which stat is indicated and roll your dragon's appropriate number of dice. As usual, each male gets one rolling post for each action post the gold makes (but if you accidentally roll the wrong dice, you may reroll with the correct dice as long as you do not delete the mistake).

To sign up, please post the following for each of your participating dragons:
Rider:
Dragon: (please include journal link)
Dice: Begin with the base dice for your dragon's color, then assign your extra 3 as appropriate to your individual dragon. If you need any help, just ask!

Anyone without a PC bronze or brown to enter may create a temporary NPC brown to use for the Flight! (Those entered with blues may still create a brown, since the blues will not be able to win.) To do so, just post the following:

Rider:
Dragon:
Dragon's Size/Build: Anything other than the extremely rare Huge/Tiny for size or Bodybuilder/Supermodel for build.
Dice: Begin with the base dice for your dragon's color, then assign your extra 3 as appropriate to your individual dragon. If you need any help, just ask!
