These were dangerous times in Destiny City, especially after the soldiers of the White Moon were emboldened by the New Years attack. The senshi were travelling in packs, and those that weren't were far more powerful than Zircon, blinding glimmers of starlight at the edge of perception on her nightly patrols. It had been easier to avoid when she was but a singular agent stumbling around in the dark with a mission, but things were different now. Zircon had responsibilities, people she needed to care for, and that meant she needed to take a few additional precautions. She could no longer afford to be reckless with herself.

Swathed in her civilian skin, Suri felt frail and groping about in a world where her senses were dulled and her body was cold. It was a necessary measure to take if she was going to visit Stroud during daylight hours, with no cat to dampen to signature. The last thing she wanted to do was draw a Castor or Thraen to her general's home and haven. Still, it gave the woman an excuse to wear a pastel blouse that had been sitting in her closet far too long, her arms wrapped in a soft shawl fashioned in thin yarn and white lace. The thin fabric was refreshingly breathable in the late spring afternoon, and it made her look and delicate and breakable as she felt. Maybe, if she were lucky, Stroud would even take notice.

Suri paused at the threshold of Stroud's abode for a moment before knocking tentatively at the door. It was common knowledge that the woman's home was open all hours of the day, but Suri was quick to employ courtesy in the event that some of Stroud's entertainment happened to be...indiscrete.

What answered the door was not Stroud. It was a man in her keeping, tall with a fading tan, dressed in a floral silk kimono, hair pulled back in a messy bun, shaving cream still decorating a third of his face. A little red knick near his chin was beginning to weep blood. He held a straight razor in one hand, and the side of the door in the other.

Lazarus knew this woman, if vaguely. It was one of Stroud's little hangers-on, the tiny one that stared after his keeper like her tongue dripped diamonds with every world, some majestic marvel of the universe. One of Schörl's infatuated little cronies.

"Two boxes of thin mints," he said with a sneer.

Suri positively bristled the moment not-Stroud opened the door, her tentative expression quickly wrapping itself up in a cold frown. She had no desire to speak to Quartz, or whatever his powerless moniker might have been, and now he was elegantly draped between her and the reason she'd worn cute flats that day.

If his existence wasn't enough of an offense, Stroud's pet took her moment of silence to dare and speak, looking down upon her as if she were some lesser creature. She was the officer of rank here, she was the one deserving of respect. Her face flushed as she held in the million scathing comments to mind, but with a single sharp huff she willed it all down, forcing herself to calm. She was the captain. She was in control.

"It's too early in the day for you to be out of your kennel," Zircon chided, wrapping herself in her shawl. "I need to speak with Stroud."

The callousness of out of your kennel was a shot that always told, whether this kind of sentiment was coming from aggressive Cinnabar or, now, frigid Zircon. He stiffened, folding away his straight razor, but didn't move out of the doorway to let the smaller woman by. Lazarus gestured with one hand, circular, to encompass his face, his body, his general everythingness. "This," he said with very forced blitheness, "doesn't just happen naturally. It's a whole process. It takes time. I can't just lay in bed all day unless I want to go to the salon and get my hair cut into the 'I'm auditioning for The Lion in Winter' pageboy cut like you."

Lazarus looked up at the lintel and leaned his weight against the doorjamb, silk robe fluttering lightly with the movement. "Anyway, you should've made an appointment," he shrugged. "The mistress of the house is out. Busy woman, Stroud. I can take a message for you, if you like."

Suri's shoulders stiffened and her face began to flush red, her hands curling into petite fists. How--how dare he speak to her this way? She glared down at her flats with an angry pout, cycling through the words she might spit back in rebuttal, but it all fell flat the moment she thought of them. While she was chained to her civilian face, there was nothing even remotely intimidating about her presence, and Lazarus, the spoiled favorite, would have no reason to respect any seniority she might have had. There was no point in speaking up as just Suri, small and weak and nonthreatening.

Then again, she was never 'just Suri'.

"No, I think you might be able to help me, then," her lips twisting into a thin smile. Black leather tore over her shawl in dark ribbons, and Captain Zircon stepped forward, right into the man's personal space. She reached for one of his wrists with a vice grip and called to the core of her power, the world around her shifting to the dim glow of Negaspace.

Zircon didn't bother touching Lazarus for any longer than necessary, tossing him aside the moment their teleportation was complete. "Suit up," she huffed, trying to hide the incredible strain she'd just put on her body by looking away nonchalantly. After all, cool senior officers didn't look at their subordinates because they weren't worthy. "We're going on a field trip, you and I."

Prepare; assess; respond. Lazarus had been taken by surprise by Zircon's unexpected transformation and abduction, but a quick look around confirmed their location: the bland, dark halls of the Dark Kingdom.

He'd seen them a little before, if not extensively. This is where energy's turned in by captains and generals, this is where you'll take updates for the information database, behind these doors are the General-Sovereigns' offices. Schörl didn't waste too much of her energy taking Quartz on excessive joyrides.

Orders or not, Lazarus put down his straight razor and pulled on Quartz's glamour with a snap of silk ribbons spinning into his uniform. Walking around barefooted in a silk robe was dangerous for Lazarus and for his robe: the gold boots would protect his feet, and the navy clothes could bear damage harmlessly. A much better option. And in a place like this, it was always better to be faster, stronger, keener -- to have his auric senses active.

Glamour conveniently whisked his shaving cream away, too. Unfortunately, it didn't finish the job of shaving his face -- leaving him with part of his face still stubbly, and with the little bleeding spot on his face where he'd cut himself, startled by the sound of Suri at the door. He daubed at it with the back of one hand, annoyed.

"What exactly did you have in mind, Captain?" he asked with an emphasis on captain that didn't sound very respectful.
