After the clone was carted away by other Death hunters, Kostya took some time to fill out the appropriate mission report with details regarding its capture, the other clone they'd seen, and the thing laying prone at the bottom of the pit that looked a lot like a Jack clone.

He was ready to turn it in, now.

Kostya knocked on Caelius' door.

"Sir? Have report."

The door creaked open, slightly.

It revealed an impressive room. An impressively empty room. Empty, as in empty of people, as in every nook and cranny was stocked with a large pile of mission reports ranging from annoyances at the former love interest of people's lives actually turning out to be rabid murderers (the usual thing) to of course the current situation at hand. And by current situation the zombie situation. And by the zombie situation the "situation" in air quotes, because nobody liked to use the word zombie (except some Life Techs out scaring newbies), because it was extremely incorrect and suggested it was not curable, which it was. Sort of.

At any rate, of course Kostya would not really know any of the last two lines, because the narrator is just setting up exposition as to what exactly had happened the past eight months where they just disappeared off the face of the planet to hunt monsters in an alternate universe. But that's enough about the narrator, it is more important to focus on a wall that is not the fourth, and somewhere between the first and third, the one containing the door as it burst open, papers flying everywhere as Mark hastily made his appearance. A moment later, and by a moment, really a second, maybe more half a second, the Death lead appeared in all his majesty, boots, shoes, and jacket splattered liberally with the blood of fallen civilians, or comrades, or maybe Kostya from the future.

He (the Death lead, not Mark, who had scrambled to find a surface area that wasn't occupied to put the papers down), took a seat at his desk, and it would have been all great and glaring and all if Kostya could actually see Caelius through the swathe of papers that the Death lead had probably ignored for the past strangely coincidental and not fourth-wall breaking eight months. He (Caelius, not the fourth wall, because the fourth wall would prefer to be called wallself) wasted no time in pushing everything aside, seated at his desk. Papers went flying everywhere. "Do you have a mission report or do you actually have something important to ******** tell me."

Some things never changed, especially Death leaders that were way too annoyed at spending too much time actually doing things then finding people who could do them (only to have them disappoint him anyway).

Kostya turned his head, slightly.

That is, he turned his head, sightly, to witness the incoming storm that was Mark and Caelius-- or to put their names in the proper order of importance, Caelius and Paperwork and then Mark-- with that same sort of look he always had, which was a cross between a blank page and a dead fish, leaning towards the dead fish.

But only by approximately 28%.

And his answer to Caelius' question was almost a cheeky why not both, except with the accent so it would be vhy not both which could, very easily, be misconstrued as vie, not both, a nigh philosophical question, and so instead he stayed silent just for a moment.

(Maybe it really had been Kostya's blood from the future, a very near future, if Kostya didn't soon spit out what he was thinking.)

"Sir," Kostya started, "have capture clone of Obadiah Thompson for your study. The second clone ve saw of Thompson did not capture, and escape. Also have new information regarding different set of clone, vuns made of Jack Hawthorn, Life division."

And there it was: several months of work that had actually happened in a singular mission that just took too long to actually do because this narrator was also in an alternate universe, killing dragons, and spent an entire age killing these dragons, and also romancing shirtless buff baras with big horns and giant man pecs that probably jiggle when he flexes, but back to the point:

All of Kostya's work was now in Caelius' cruel, cruel hands. Amen.

First of all, there were a couple of grievous corrections to be addressed to the current dissociative identity narrative going on. The first being, that Caelius wouldn't actually kill anyone with his bare hands, not unless it was Monday and this person's name started with Rob and ended with ert. The second, more important clarification was that months was relative in the space-time continuum in this current reality anyway, and that it really, for all intents and purposes, had only been a day, or a couple of weeks. Or a couple of weeks spanning to a day.

As Kostya said the word clone, Mark made a strange noise. It sounded like a stutter between 'but-' and 'shouldn't you-', had they combined into one word and become a single loud cough. He opened his mouth again, looked at Kostya, then closed it. Probably not worth it.

The Death lead glared at a pile of paper between him and Kosta so hard the pile of paperselves probably wilted. Probably. "Show me." Always a man of many words, it was his winning personality and dragon killing ability (sort of) that clearly won him so many charm points when it came to being romanced in virtual console games (the bara part was still a work in progress).

This narrator wants the other narrator to know that while wall was surely very kind and generous, Caelius had most definitely killed people with his bare hands, or at least his bare scythe, although it's been a while since the heads have rolled.

But this wall digresses. To the subject at hand!

Kostya looked at Mark and wondered, vaguely, if he needed the Heimlich manoeuvre, or something else equally dangerous and helpful at the same time. At least Caelius' glare wouldn't break Mark's ribs.

Probably. Sort of. Most likely.

"Uhm," the Russian said, blinking, and moved towards the door, hoping that Caelius meant take me to your leader captured quarry, and not the mission report.

Wait. Maybe that was not the best idea. He laid the papers down somewhere on a blank space (was that a chair, beneath all that paper? Had it it been, once upon a time, before it had become a paperworktableself?)

"Is in containment." Kostya said, "can bring you to clone?"

The look the Death lead gave Kostya very strongly suggested there were poor starving Chinese children in third world Nike factory workshops getting paid almost nothing that should feel better about themselves than Kostya did at this very moment.

"Either you bring me to the clone," said Caelius very slowly, just in case the recipient was one of those Dakota types, "or you bring me the clone. That is the reason why you are wasting my time." He ignored the stack of papers Kostya had put down.

Kostya did not have many strong feelings about nearly anyone and anything, but he especially did not feel inferior to poor starving Chinese children in third world factories, who if they were so superior they wouldn't be in those workshops, would they?

Let no one forget that Kostya is an a*****e. An a*****e that very recently tossed a baby up in the air only for it to land in Rep's burly, freckled arms.

"I vill bring you the clone," he said, and turned to fetch the clone from the containment facility, located in [REDACTED].

(It saved them from an awkward walk with even more potentially awkward small talk, which was a blessing for the two of them, but moreso for the narrators who really would need to stretch to make it believable between these two. Things like How about that sunny weatherand Have you heard about the training dummy and What about that cafeteria coffee would never be heard between these two.

Thank god.)

After some time, Kostya returned with the Clone, bound and restrained and reluctant. It was reminiscent of someone trying to walk a cat, possibly in the rain.

It wasn't quite certain if the Death lead would have been more irritated in Kostya actually bringing the clone over not bringing the clone. He looked at the strange oddity of Kostya and his pet and for a long moment did not say anything.

At last he moved, just slightly, enough to clear his desk just a little. "Show me what you know."

The clone maintains a sullen silence and insolent grower throughout Kostya's little presentation.

Kostya paused to look at the clone, then back at Caelius, then back at the clone. A trickle of sweat dripped down the back of his neck.

"Clone start off with little knowledge and must be train. They learn very fast. Do not know origin first hand, but vord is that is create by famine. Have only seen clones of Obadiah first hand, but others exist now also. They cannot be kill in normal vays. Cut off limb, it vill seek out the rest of body."

Caelius did say show, but he did not think it pertinent to try and dismember it in his office. Especially because he wasn't strong enough to cleave one apart in any reasonable amount of blows.

The Death lead didn't exactly praise Kostya, but he did not condemn him either. He simply gazed evenly at the clone, and then back at Kostya. "If you have to speculate on the origin of those clones, then you haven't invested enough time to figuring out why. Find the origin first hand and then report back to me. If you are going to give me your unfinished work then you are wasting my ******** time."

He took out an object from his desk, what appeared to be an ornate dagger with a red hilt. "Leave it with me, I will dispose of it. You are dismissed."
