Hachi slipped easily out of the Vocivus and into the mountains. Reapers didn't travel here often, sure, but he liked the fresh, open air. It calmed him, somehow - it was steadfast and clean. People here were hikers and meditators. They liked dogs and tea, and so Hachi liked them. He was perhaps simple for that.
And so he kept trekking. Humans here weren't so sparse, he noted - but they seemed in good health. He supposed that made sense - not many would want to make it out this far, after all!
He swooped through a hiker as he searched for someone ailing. Probably someone who'd had an accident? He wasn't actually sure what'd cause someone to die out up here.
Perhaps that was the problem. He needed to seek people in less populated areas. They were in need of resources...or of conduits to the vocivus, where the world might be enriched that much more.
It looked like it'd been the correct method - but just as he reached for the soul it slipped out of his reach. Good-bye, Hachi waved, sad.
Where would it go, without him? He'd find it again soon, he was sure.
At least now Hachi knew it was in the area. He doubled down again - where might it have gone? Where was the body it was attached to? That was naturally the best place to start from.
It was a pity that the terrain was so difficult here. That was probably why most reapers regarded it as a place to avoid when reaping...but it was good work, Hachi thought.
He could see the soul, dancing just out of reach. It was an athlete he thought: no, it had been an athlete. Its body was old and weary now, but the soul had the energy that Hachi thrived for.
"I can give you a place of rest," Hachi told it, although he knew reasonably that it couldn't hear - only its body could, and Hachi hadn't found that just yet.
Yet would it come? Hachi could tell it was strong and clever. It deserved the best sort of treatment - it'd evaded him for this long, after all! He reached and reached, and - the soul came. He cradled it against his chest for a moment before returning gracefully to his own section of the vocivus.
