Riko was never one to divulge of her plans with her housemates which was probably why she wasn't as close to them as she could be. But she was a loner by instinct, all creeds fell out the window when instinct came became involved anyway, that was the truth of the matter.

But even if she and her housemates had been on the closest of terms, she would not have told them about what she was doing on this day. They would be disgusted by it and by her. But she was a vampire after all, regular food could only sustain her for so long, she had to feed, and there were places that allowed her to do it.

An underground nightclub in the slums, that hosted both humans and vampires, it was more of a sex club than anything, the floors often littered with nude, shagging bodies in the throes of sex. But Riko never came here for a cheap ********, just an easy meal, luckily there were plenty of humans that were able to get off on the feel of the p***k of her teeth and just that alone.

She finished her business quick, and exited. Walking out into the stagnant night, the tightly wrapped citizens told her that it must be cold out, bust she couldn't tell. She was always cold, her body losing the need to stay temperate. But there was still blood flowing through her. Somewhere.

She took the alleys off of general principle, she didn't like staying in the public eye, her hair made her recognizable and she didn't want to run into anyone who could possibly recognize her. It was in passing a double wide dumpster that Riko noticed something. A tightly wrapped bundle of blankets on the dirty floor, that was moving, whining, crying. Looking around as if expecting some sort of set up, Riko moved to the blankets and slid them to the side, and what she found were two wide tear filled eyes looking back at her, she had found a baby, abandoned to the cold without a care in the world.

The infant stopped it crying when it saw her, it scrutinized her in much the same way she was doing to it. As if accessing her, trying to figure out if she were friendly or not, if it could get something out of her or not. Slowly, Riko reached down and gathered the bundle into her arms, holding them and the child close to her chest, before quickly recoil shooting the baby away from her at arms length.

It reeked.

Not of waste, but it smelled strongly of wolf, she would know she lived with one.

"I guess I have some sort of responsibility over you since I found you huh?" Riko asked, at the sound of her voice the infant started squirming a bit, more in excitement than discomfort. Riko smiled at it. "Let's get you out of this cold shall we?"

---

She made it home as the sun was rising, and strolled up the stairs to her room which was in the attic, she rested the child on her bed and starred at it. It had fallen asleep on the trip back. She had planned to give it a bath, seeing as its long mane of hair -which she'd attributed to it being a wolf- was dirty and in need of washing.

Well, she supposed she could get it out of the dirty clothes it wore and wash those, yes, that was a plan. Riko undressed the infant, careful so as not to jostle it around too much and wake it, while she worked she found out that the baby was female, so she could stop referring to her as "it" in her inner monologue. Smiling a bit at that Riko covered the child in a blanket and exited her room, going to clean the infants clothes.

(Perhaps your character can discover the child through smell, also wasn't sure if I should make Riko weak to daylight.)

(Sure, a weakness to sunlight could make future scenes interesting. Maybe not an intense one, but a discomfort. But no sparkling, please. XD)

Mercy was in one of her moods. One of the chefs at the steakhouse had introduced her to a new use for zuchini--zuchini carrot muffins. Muffins. With vegetables. Well, the idea had so intrigued her that she had gone to the store after work and purchased all of the ingredients. Now she was in the kitchen, following a recipe she had found online (and would almost definitely mark with improvements and ignore next time).

This brand of madness wasn't unusual for Mercy. She had always been interested in food on a large scale, and this love had grown to near-ridiculous heights since her job offer from Blue Roof Steakhouse three years ago. Now, with both the financial means to obtain the ingredients and the culinary skill to prepare them, Mercy was unstoppable. Did being a werewolf complicate things? Not really. She wasn't like Riko or Harry--she could still eat food. But she did have a tendency to serve guests rare steaks when they asked for well-done. Whoops. In her defense, it wasn't her fault that she preferred her meat still alive and breathing raw. No, it wasn't her fault at all, and the scar over her left eye, a collection of jagged scratch marks, was proof of that.

When Riko first entered the house, Mercy heard her, but that was about it. Surrounded by the scents of the spices she was using for both the muffins and the breakfast she was preparing, she hadn't noticed the unfamiliar presence. In the back of her mind, maybe, something seemed... off. Out of place. Unusual. She was so used to atypical things happening in this house, however, that it didn't bother her in the least. Until she turned off the stove and the air cleared. Mercy suddenly caught the scent with a sniff and frowned.

                                                                ...What was that?

A werewolf. She hadn't smelled one in what seemed like ages, but she would know that stench anywhere. And yet it was fresh, somehow. Different. What did it mean? Mercy, alarmed, grabbed a knife from the drawer and held it behind her back as she began following the scent. She climbed the stairs and crept down the second-floor hallway. Nothing sounded wrong. No screams, no whispers, no footsteps. Yet with each step, the scent grew stronger. And then Mercy reached Riko's room. And then she poked her head through the half-opened door.

A baby. There was a baby lying on Riko's bed. That was beyond strange. Granted, Mercy didn't know all that much about her roommate's life, but she was pretty sure there were no infants in it. What was stranger, though, was that the scent seemed to be coming from the baby. Like, the baby was the werewolf. Glancing around, Mercy checked to see if Riko was nearby--negatory--before approaching the child. It was sleeping. How did a baby this young, practically a newborn, get scratched by a werewolf and survive? Mercy set aside her knife and peeled away the blanket, thinking that the scratch must be fresh and in need of dressing, but she found nothing. Hm. Gently, she lifted the infant and turned her on her stomach. Still nothing. No, that couldn't be right... Werewolves weren't born. They were made. But there wasn't a single blemish on this baby, not even a rash.

Frowning, Mercy quickly swaddled the infant in the blanket and followed Riko's scent to the laundry room. "Riko," she demanded, holding up the still-slumbering child. "What the hell is this?"

(As a lesbian I just want to say that the sparkle in the sun s**t from twilight, was probably the GAYEST thing I've ever seen.)

Riko was kicking her legs absently from her seat atop the washing machine, every so often she get a bit careless and her legs would clang loudly into the washing machine door. She was busy typing away at her phone on forum sites, her new guilty pleasure.

She had multiple reddit threads open, having an argument with one man about how stupid it is to spend upwards of 10k on an apple watch, while having a less heated discussion with a few people in another forum about how Korea was still the most dominant region in competitive league of legends, despite the exodus of many of the regions top talent. None of these conversations truly mattered to her, but they were good time killers, and time was something that needed to do much killing of, being of the undead, and unable to sleep. She had nothing but time.

The washing machine beeped loudly, causing her to jump off of it, the drop being a bit higher for her than it would be for most, but she was also a lot shorter than most. 5'1". She often argued that she wasn't done growing when she was turned, even though she had been 17 and was pretty sure that she had missed her chance for a growth spurt, but it was the only leg she had to stand on as far as height was concerned, and its not like anyone could prove that she wouldn't have grown just a little bit more.

She tsked to herself, and made a few more little noises, sorta beat boxing as she moved the baby's clothes from the washer to the dryer, clicking the door shut and turning it on, hopping up backwards to sit on top of the dryer now. This time clicking away at a game on her phone until the door opened, and in its frame stood Mercy, and the Baby she had brought him.

"That can't be good." She mumbled to herself, wincing a bit at Mercy's question. Riko did her best to answer such a difficult question. "Its a baby." She said simply jumping off of the dryer when it beeped and pocketing her phone. "And these are her clothes." She said as she picked out the still warm clothes from the dryer. "Hand her over so that I can dress her."

(Haha, oh my God, I'm dying... XD I'm in agreement, though.)

Mercy ignored Riko's request--well, really, she didn't hear it. She was too busy trying to sort all of this out. "I think we both know it's not just a baby, though," she said, shaking her head. Mercy wasn't acting frantically, per se, but it was clear she was very confused and eager to find the answers to her questions. "She's a werewolf. A werewolf without a scratch."

It didn't make sense. None of this did. As she looked down at the baby in her arms, Mercy suddenly remembered when she had gotten scratched. She heard her mother screaming, felt the heat of the werewolf's breath on her face, and when she closed her eyes she saw the paw flying at her. A temptation to touch the marks the beast had left seized her, but she resisted. Taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly, she opened her eyes again to look at Riko. "I don't need to tell you--this is impossible."

Another question surfaced then. Where were the baby's parents? She was less than a week old, Mercy guessed, although she supposed she didn't have the medical knowledge to say for certain. Whatever the child's age, though, she was too young to have been out on her own. Eyes widening slightly and a sense of dread gripping her, she asked her housemate, "Riko, where are the baby's parents?" Mercy didn't think Riko was a monster--well, not much more than she thought herself to be a monster. But she wasn't really close to Riko. She didn't know fully what the girl was capable of.

"Well...." Riko mused looking off to the side, Mercy did have a point, the child wasn't marked in anyway that showed her to have been turned, Riko would be surprised if an infant could survive that kind of infection, she'd assume the stress alone would stop the poor things heart, let alone all the other things that came with it. "Improbable, but impossible? Obviously not." Riko said finally, something couldn't very well be impossible when they were looking the proof of the possibility right in its adorable sleeping face.

"Perhaps we are holding proof of evolution in your species, right in your very paws." Riko added, feigning a small bit of excitement, she liked to think that it was obvious that she was laying it on a little thick.

However her amused sarcasm was short lived when Mercy poised a question that had some underlying implications that she didn't really like. "If you are implying something with that question, I think you'd better apologize for it, before I become offended." Riko said sweetly the smile that spread on her face being countered by the narrowing of her turquoise eyes and a flash of her fanged teeth. "Now hand her over, so I can dress her."

Evoltuion of her species, right in her paws. Mercy resisted the temptation to roll her eyes. Ugh, vampires. She did feel bad, though. She should have known better than to accuse Riko of killing the baby's parents--Riko and Mercy weren't best friends, but they weren't so far from friendly terms that such a conclusion was warranted. Mercy wilted slightly under Riko's gaze, clearly regretful. Exhaling, her body relaxing, she nodded. "You're right," she said, more softly, handing the baby over to Riko. "I'm sorry. I'm just... shaken."

Once the infant was out of her hands, Mercy clenched her fists, then wrung her hands, then swung her arms. She didn't know what to do with herself. Why was this making her so anxious? There were just too many questions, and if there was anything that made Mercy uncomfortable, it was a pile of questions without answers. Giving in to the burst of nervous energy seizing her, Mercy started to pace.

"I don't know what could have changed," she said, thinking back to Riko's evolution comment. Even if it was meant to be a joke, it was something Mercy felt couldn't be ruled out. Maybe they were looking at a new breed of werewolf. Well, no, they definitely were, because Mercy didn't know of any other werewolves who had been born. "Most werewolves never get pregnant--or, anyway, are never pregnant long enough to find out," she said. "I mean, when we shift... our bodies change completely, and we're put through so much physical stress that we can barely take care of ourselves, much less a fetus." Although, looking back, she could remember one mother who had made it a few months. But then she miscarried, and the sight had been horrible. Mercy paused in her tracks as she remembered, a wave of nausea rolling over her.

Riko blew a useless breath of oxygen that her body did not require from her nose, as she looked off to the side, counting the cracks on the wall, distracting herself for the moment so that she could let it go.

Calming herself.

"41....42.....43.....44...".

Mercy apologizing helped, and it also made her feel a bit silly for getting so mad, she managed a sheepish apology when Mercy handed the infant back to her, she mumbled a few other nonsensical words as she turned to the washing machine carefully laying the child on the surface, glad that the metal was worm enough to not wake the infant during contact.

As she dressed the baby, Riko tried to pretend that she didn't notice Mercy fidgeting around behind her, by busying herself with the task at hand, she was deliberately slow in her movements, she had a tendency to move a lot quicker than needed, and she wasn't too sure she wouldn't end up hurting the child, wolf or not she was still a baby. "Maybe someone got lucky." Riko said, picking the infant up now and cradling it in her arms. "Or maybe the mother got infected mid delivery or something of that sort." Riko offered, moving past Riko and back upstairs taking the steps to her attic room two at a time. "I think the real question is, why was she just abandoned behind a dumpster."

Mercy blinked. The baby had been... what? She shouldn't have been surprised, though, really. If Riko hadn't witnessed (or personally done) anything, how else would she have collected the baby? By providing babysitting services? Now that was funny--a werewolf leaving her infant in the hands of a vampire. Ha.

Frowning again, Mercy followed Riko up the stairs. It was interesting to see how gentle Riko was with the baby. She almost seemed to be enjoying herself, even. As they reached the attic room, Mercy folded her arms across her chest and leaned against the doorway, eyes steadied on her housemate. "What are you going to do with her?" she asked, less frantic now. "You're not going to keep her... are you?"

"Well, that is the idea." Riko said looking at Mercy with a confused expression as if she couldn't comprehend what Mercy was trying to ask. "It's not like I can just throw her back out on the street after taking her in, even I'm not that cruel." Riko added placing the infant back down on her bed.

Something about the infant sleeping comfortably brought a smile to her face, she didn't know what it was, because she usually hasted kids. "I would think you'd be all over this, another one of your own hanging around should cause you to rejoice should it not Mercy?" Riko asked, or more like implied, letting the wolf know that she should be happy.

Mercy grimaced. "I've spent plenty of time with my own, thanks, and there was nothing to rejoice about," she replied flatly. It wasn't so long ago that she had been living with other werewolves, a middle-ranking member in a pack of cursed men and women. She had spent years with them, but then they had begun to think differently, act differenly. Elitist. Humans became the enemy--and everyone else, too, although there had always been tension between werewolves and vampires. Mercy had left, detesting what the tribe she had once considered a family had become. "And, anyway," Mercy continued, "I don't know what to expect. I can't help her. I was fourteen when I was scratched."

She didn't like how final this felt. Weren't they going to investigate? Maybe she cared so much about what had happened because she was a werewolf, because this baby was something of a miracle biologically. Riko seemed prepared to raise the baby without any questions asked--which, again, was weird and something Mercy would probably look into later. Mercy walked over to the bed and looked down at the sleeping baby. Alright, she had to admit that the little girl was pretty damn cute. Mercy gently carressed the infant's face, brushing back what little hair was on her head. "Don't you want to know why she was left?"

PostPosted: Thu Apr 23, 2015 12:57 pm

"Well that's to bad isn't it." Riko mused absently, looking over the baby before looking back to Mercy and smirking. "Well maybe if you help raise this little one, you can help her grow into a nicer, more favorable little wolf right?" Riko asked with a shrug as if it would be the easiest thing in the world, honestly she didn't see a problem, sure the little girl was an oddity, but she didn't think that mattered much, at the end of the day this was a baby afterall, and it had been left on the street, the fact that it was a werewolf made it perfectly sensible for them to keep it, because where else could this little girl go? "Even if you were young, you were still older than her, she's going to need a bit of guidance when she gets older, and I can't explain to her what it's like or how to be a wolf Mercy" She said, admittedly trying to guilt trip the wolf just a little bit, but she wanted Mercy on her side, because she didn't know how the other housemates would react.

It seemed to be working however, as she watched Mercy gently stroking the infants cheek, "That's right, capture her heart." Riko grinned evilly to herself, before wiping the smirk off her face when Mercy spoke up again. "Not really, I mean I have my speculations of course, but I don't want to think about the trash that could of left this infant out to die. Cause quite frankly, it pisses me off just a bit."

Was Riko trying to guilt trip her? Mercy sent the girl a wary, narrow-eyed sideways glance. This wasn't a puppy Riko was trying to get Mercy to commit to, it was a baby. And this baby would need lots of time, time that only one of them really had. Mercy wasn't sure that she was ready to take on this challenge. But when she looked down at that angelic face with its tiny nose and puckered lips... <********.

Riko was right: Mercy was the only one in this household that knew from personal experience what it was like to be a werewolf. One day, this child would have questions, and Mercy was currently the sole person who could answer them. Sure, there were other werewolves, but what other werewolf was going to put up with Riko's cold a**? "I can't believe you're asking me to raise a baby with you," she mused as her fingertips brushed the fabric of the baby's blanket. "And here I thought this day would never come." Mercy chuckled, a somewhat strained, dry chuckle, and glanced at Riko. "Fine, I'll help you, I guess. I mean, we live together. What am I going to do? Ignore her?"

As she returned her attention to the infant, it occurred to her that she didn't have a name. "What are you going to name her?" Mercy asked Riko curiously. After studying the baby's soft face for a few moments, she suggested, "She looks like a Marie. Or maybe a Connie."

PostPosted: Fri Apr 24, 2015 12:00 am

"Or an Esther." Riko added musing over the names along side Mercy. "I honestly don't know what I'm going to name her, I haven't really thought about that." Riko mumbled the last bit before biting her lip her fangs poking into the skin there. She hadn't even begun to think about all the little yet indescribably important things. They had to name her of course, she couldn't go without a name that would be cruel. But with her name came a lot of legal paperwork, if they were going to keep her, it was going to require more than just accepting her into the home.

Luckily Riko had connections.

A soft whine of strain, caused Riko to turn towards the infant that was lying on her bed, the child was starting to squirm, Riko was quick to pick the child up, rocking her and shushing her quietly. "It's ok, it's ok....what's wrong with you?" She asked soothingly, the child continue to whine softly, so Riko lifted her up and leaned forward sniffing lightly.

"We're....... gonna need diapers........and wipes." Riko said making a face, as she looked at mercy.

"Well don't just stand there!!"

(lol since Mercy was turned at 14 I imagine what a 14 year old would look like buying wipes and diapers from a store, early in the morning.)

(Yeah, that would look funny, haha. XD But the way I imagine werewolves, they can age, so Mercy looks as old as she is--twenty-five.)

Mercy was getting the sense that Riko hadn't taken into account all of the needs a baby has. And with a werewolf baby, of all things, who knew how much harder it was going to get. Of course, Mercy was the one who had to run the errand. After shooting Riko a glare, she grumbled to herself and went downstairs. She was already dressed in a pair of jeans and a Florence and the Machine T-shirt, so all she had to do was pull on her sneakers and go.

Meanwhile, Harry, a short boy with shaggy brown hair and bright blue eyes, poked his head in the doorway of Riko's room. He was currently visible, but he had a habit of using his ghostly abilities to shirk responsibilities and play pranks. Normally, he was a mischievous (former) seventeen-year-old with a childish sense of humor, but now he looked troubled. "Can't you feel that?" he asked Riko. "I don't like it. I don't want that kind of energy near me."
