Profile: Personality and Appearance

User Image
Character Name: Daia Lorriss
Race: Dovaa
Gender: Female
Clan: Unchosen, but will chose Firani
Class: N/A, locked to Mage due to Dovaa restrictions
Appearance:

Daia is fair-skinned, dotted with freckles. Her hair, which is a bright ginger orange, is somewhat short, coming down to about the middle of her neck. It is slightly wavy. She typically wears loose, bright-colored clothing. Her Dovaa horns and scales are a deep orange-red. Due to not having chosen a clan yet, her eyes are lavender.

Personality:

Daia is, in a word, a spitfire. She possesses great zeal for everything she does and radiates energy. Her sense of boundaries is a bit lax; she has a bad habit of poking her nose into everything regardless of how relevant it is to her. She is one of those "meddling kids," skittering around the area and getting into everything she can.

Packaged with that zeal and curiosity is a bit of coarseness. She doesn't know all the proper etiquette rules, leading to the occasional social gaffe (what do you mean no elbows on the table?). She is a bit vulgar, mostly due to having a potty mouth and a crude sense of humor, and she often fails to stop herself from saying something improper in polite company. Others have told her parents that they need to get a handle on their girl before she seriously offends someone.

When angered, she really lets loose with the cursing and the absurd threats (you're going to stick a what-ing what in that person's huh?). The threats are so comically over-the-top that it's hard to take her seriously when she gets like this, and more often than not she's not actually going to stick a what-ing what in your huh. She may, however, try to slug you for whatever offense set her off in the first place. She's reckless and doesn't have much self-control, and naturally that gets her in trouble a lot.

Under all that meddling and her ridiculous bouts of anger, Daia cares. If you're a friend, she will check in with you frequently, always wanting to know how you are doing. If someone hurts a friend of hers (metaphorically or physically), she will dash out to avenge their honor. Though she's not really mature enough to understand some of the deeper issues in life, she will do her best to listen, commiserate, and soothe any wounds.

Daia's aforementioned zeal makes her kind of a "perpetual motion kid;" she is always doing something, and with gusto. Even school assignments are done with great effort (not always well, because there are some things she just Does Not Get, but she tries). She's an active girl who can easily come up with ways to entertain herself. She throws herself 100% into all her endeavors and does not stop until they are completed to her satisfaction.

To sum up, Daia is an energetic girl with an over-reactive temper who wants to live life to its fullest. She burns hot in nearly every aspect of her life; whether she will end up as a pleasant bonfire or a raging inferno remains to be seen.

Profile: History

Daia was born on the Celestial Plane to Tascard and Elmira Lorriss. Tascard, her father, was of the Kiandri clan, while her mother Elmira was a Firani Dovaa. The parents were notorious for being the Boisterous Bruiser types: cheerful, rambunctious, loud, good-hearted, fiercely loyal, but never afraid to turn down an honorable fight. The Kiandri and Firani Dovaa ran a tavern named the Dragon Stream in a somewhat busy part of town. The tavern got good traffic, partly because Tascard and Elmira knew how to provide a great atmosphere and partly for the performances that would be put on every Friday night. The performances spanned a broad variety of acts, from beautiful dancing to stand-up comedy to combat demonstrations from the owners themselves.

Daia grew up (well, is still growing up) as the darling of her parents and the regular patrons of the Dragon Stream. She was featured in a lot of performances her parents put on, mostly in bit roles. Someday she hopes to be the star of the shows with her parents. Her mother taught her (and is still teaching her, really) how to dance, and her father pushed for teaching her how to fight when the time came. Tascard and Elmira had been mercenaries in their pasts (mostly on quick, small assignments; the two believed in Dovaan neutrality but also in the glory of honorable combat), and they wanted their daughter to get a taste of the thrills as well. Daia, in all her exuberance, accepted the offer to learn how to fight.

Profile: Thoughts on Others

Thoughts on the Great Engagement:

Ptooey! The Great Engagement sounds stupid to Daia. Sure, she can understand needing to duel to settle a dispute, but a war that big over someone doing something dumb like making a totally unfair power grab? Soudana shouldn't have gotten greedy like that in the first place! And even if she did, it shouldn't have blown up into a huge thing! It could be said that Daia takes some pride in Dovaa neutrality, though even she knows that it's been bent in places (her parents were mercenaries, after all). You'd think she would understand that people don't always play fair (hence why the gods couldn't just settle the mess among themselves), but sometimes her idealism and fantasies of honorable duels get ahead of her.

Thoughts on the Magescian Races:

Oblivionites - So creepy! Daia has yet to meet an Oblivionite in the flesh, but she doesn't like what she's heard. Their empty eye sockets give her the shudders, and how is it possible for something to be born without a soul? They're scary. She would hide from an Oblivionite if one approached her. She has been taught that they are strictly Soudana's weapons; the thought of weapon people is scary to her.

Orderites - They sound cool! Daia has heard a lot about how Orderites make a lot of cool things. They sound really smart and not freaky like the Oblivionites. She has pipe dreams of perhaps learning how to build things from an Orderite. However, she does have a tiny scrap of suspicion about them. If they're so great, how come the Dovaa haven't joined the war on their side? Something's got to be up, though Daia has no idea what.

Dovaa - Her people! Daia loves other Dovaa in a sisterly sort of sense. She has a sense of awe about the variety of Dovaa (not that other races don't have variety; she just has seen more Dovaa due to living on the Celestial Plane). Light hair, dark hair, bright horns, dark horns, all sorts of different eyes... the possibilities of her race fascinate her.

Hybrids - They're okay. Probably. Unless they've got Oblivionite blood in them, in which case they're probably still scary. She's not really going to develop a deep loathing for people that are in the situation of most hybrids (they couldn't help being born that way). She's still wary of those who are part Oblivionite in them, and were she to meet a Dovaa/Oblivionite hybrid, she would be very confused on how to feel (her desire to accept the Dovaa part might win out though).

Thoughts on the Dragons and Khehora:

Dragons - The ultimate test! Dragon hunting seems to be Serious Business, and Daia would like to someday prove herself enough to get a dragon soul or two or more. Getting strong enough to defeat a dragon is a goal of hers.

Khehora - Kind of weird, but also kind of cool. Daia would like to meet a full, transformed Khehorian someday. She would consider bonding with one one day, but she doesn't think she's ready for the responsibility.
