Meli was hard at work as a Bumani. She was pretty new to the roll but she was happy to be hard at work doing something for her pride. After the tsunami, the pride had been damaged in so many ways. There were still members missing, presumed dead, families had been torn apart and dens had been decimated. There was nothing that Meli could do about the families torn to part but she could rebuild the dens.
Today Meli was working with some of the large rib bones that they had collected after a whale had washed up on their shores, another casualty of the tsunami perhaps. She was wedging the bones into place so that the dens would be reinforced now in a way that if the waters came crashing up again they wouldn't collapse on themselves. Meli took a step back to admire her work.

Asho needed some air. His father was alive, and he'd spent the last few days since he'd come back as... well, a wreck. A complete wreck. He'd been so afraid that his last memory would have been his father taking him to safety before being washed away, but it wasn't. He was alright. He was alright.
He sat down, wiping his eyes on his paw and staring out at the ocean, sniffing. Honestly, Asho thought he'd be cried out by now, but the relief was so strong after all the fear... everything was going to be alright.
"Everything is going to be alright." He said to himself, an important reminder that he needed to hang onto. He laughed, sniffing again, almost wanting to turn around and go back to his siblings and parents, but he was feeling better.
And then he realized he wasn't alone at all. "Oh. Hey. Sorry. I'm interrupting." He wiped his eyes again, trying to hide it. He had no right to be relieved when so many other were suffering... but his dad. His dad was okay.

Meli turned to see a brilliantly coloured lion behind her. She was marvelled by his colours a bright red with black splotches it wasn't a colour that she saw often in the pride and she had to say it was something she found rather stunning. As she looked closer she noticed that the the lion also had brilliant green eyes, she was distracted by his looks, something she was a little ashamed to admit.
"You are interrupting nothing." she told him with a kind smile, she was pretty sure that she had heard him talking to himself before he spoke directly to her, but she decided it best not to point that out. Many in the pride suffered from some form of post traumatic stress and it didn't seem to do anybody any good pointing it out.
"I just finished reinforcing this den, how does it look?" she asked taking a step back further to stand next to the mall looking up at her brilliant work, hoping that he too would agree that it looked good.

Asho wiped his eyes again, smiling at her and nodding, "Yeah... wow that actually looks pretty great. Need any help? It looks like some of the ties might need to be held down again... the wind can knock them down if you're not careful and... well. You know. With the bad weather and all that lately..." He looked down sadly, but he shook his head, not letting himself fall back into that mindset. Not that.
"I'm Asho. Sorry I don't uh... really know you. You're new, yeah? An outsider? Not that that's a bad thing or like... anything like that. My mom was one too, my dad was born here though." He sighed, shoulders slumping. "Not exactly seeing us at our best, huh?"

"Why thank you." she told him. When he pointed out some of the tie downs that might need a little fixing up she eyed them closer, sure enough he was right. She cursed herself a little, she was a slimly built lioness but muscular, sometimes though this job was a little difficult for her to pull of all on her own, she really should work with a partner more often. When he offered his assistance though she couldn't turn him down, "That would be very kind of you, I want to make sure that these are as strong as can be."
"Asho it is nice to meet you. My name is Meli" she said in a soft voice, anytime the past tsunami came up with some of the older pride members Meli found herself feeling a little awkward, she didn't really know what to say most of the time. "There isn't always good times, I can hardly expect to find you all doing well all of the time, besides now I am one of you, and I am happy to help you rebuild."
She gave the tie down she was working on a good tug. "I must say I have fallen in love with the pride quite quickly I wish I could have grown up here. The ocean is so calming and yet powerful at the same time. Tell me Asho do you have a large family here?" she was a little hesitant to bring up his family incase any of them were hurt in the tsunami but she figured even if there were hurt or missing they were still his family and he might like the chance to talk about them.

Asho nodded, holding down the ties to help her out and letting her work. Meli. She seemed like a nice girl, it was good to know that they could still attract friendly lions even at such a desperate time. "I'm a healer so I've been keeping busy for the most part... when we've found anyone who made it out alive, it's... well it's important to keep it that way."
He smiled though, "And yes. My grandparents are here, on my father's side, and some aunts and uncles and cousins. I have three siblings also, so we stick together most of the time. And my parents... my mom made it out okay but my dad was washed away..." He realized how that might sound.
"Oh, we found him though! He's okay. We were really worried he might... but he's fine. He says he washed up a few miles off so it took him a few weeks to figure out how to get back... he knows the area pretty well so I... well I'm just glad he's okay."

"A healer." Meli said in tone full of awe. She knew that she had been busy with rebuild parts of the pride, but she imaged that it was nothing compared to what the healers of the pride would have been doing for the pride right now. She knew many had been hurt, and a lot of them seriously. Meli was no good at fixing the body she could only fix buildings.
"Well I commend you Asho, you do a job that I could never do." she offered him a kinda smile. She imagined that his last little while had been very tough, he had been washed away in the tsunami at first, and his father had been missing for weeks, then on top of that he had to work on healing all those who had been harmed.
"I am glad to hear that you family all came out ok." Meli was jealous in a way she had no family and it was a common wish for her to have someone to lean on. "Family is very important it was a great part of the reason I came here, the sense of family here is strong." she said with a sad smile.
She gave her head a small shake, now was no time to get sad, besides the lion quite possibly needed her help more than she ever need his. She hoped that perhaps he would let her in to help him. She gave him another smile as she stepped back looking at the den again, "There I think that looks better now." she said looking at him to confirm it.

"Me too." Asho agreed, but he got the sense that maybe... well, maybe it was time that he did more healing than just the body. His father had always said that the health of someone's mine was just as important, hadn't he?
"Hey, um... if you're lonely... I mean I guess it can be pretty hard with everything that's been going on here lately. But like I said, we have a big family so if you ever needed someone to talk to or if you wanted to share a meal, we're always open. I mean, you're in the pride so it's kind of like you're family already, but it's important we all stick together, especially now."
He blushed a little, rubbing the back of his neck. She was a pretty lioness, after all, and it had taken him half their conversation to notice that. "I mean... if you'd like some company, anyway. Because... yeah. No point eating alone and all that, right?"

"The pride has been wonderful, but yes I admit making friends right now is rather difficult, everyone is just so busy." Her voice was light, she wasn't bothered that it hadn't been easy to make friends, in general her the pride had a very good feel to it.
"I would love to have dinner with you some time." she told Asho with a generous smile, she could see that the male was a little flustered but Meli really appreciated the offer. She thought he might be flirting with her but than he mentioned his family in addition and Meli became less confident in her assumption. Either way though Meli was happy for the offer!
"Well I suppose I should really get back to the heavy lifting Asho. It was nice meeting you. I hope that we cross paths again soon." she was honest in this she knew she would be seeking the male out again soon.

"I hope so too." Asho smiled, blushing a little. She was awfully pretty... maybe he'd have time to ask her to have dinner with him sometime. Just the two of them. Or something. He was really terrible at asking people out... maybe he'd have time to ask his parents for advice.
Just another thing he could still do now that he thought he might never be able to do again.
"I'll see you around, Meli. It's lovely to meet you." He smiled despite himself. Even if he didn't ask her out just the two of them... well, either way it would be nice to have a friend.
