It had been a while since he had taken it upon himself to do some training; so early one morning, Gale ambled out to the training fields, rifle already summoned and in hand, to do a bit of target practice.
It was implied already that he would be shooting alone, since it was relatively early and the morning mists had yet to dissipate. Gale set himself up at one training dummy in the middle and squared his shoulders in preparation, readying the rifle against his shoulder.
Then he fired off a couple of test shots, the bullets echoing loudly across the deserted grounds.

Claude had, admittedly, been hitting the training field a lot less since she was promoted. It also didn't help that, as of late, she'd been driven by the overwhelming need to be a recluse. Still, she couldn't, and wouldn't, ignore training outright because of how she felt. She was a Sun after all and training was the least she could do. Going early morning was a good call. No one would probably be there, and she could go strike some dummies-- There was a pause in her step as loud gun shots echoed across the field. Hm. Interesting. In the distance she could spot where it was coming from, and she stared that way before she made up her mind to venture closer. Her arrival was quiet and she came to a stop nearby, her arms crossed, as she observed the hunter with his rather large firearm. She was silent for a bit longer before she spoke up. She was taller than he was, unsurprisingly. Gale lifted his eyes towards her face, only barely recognizing her from Lex's mission. What had been her name again? Something that started with a C, though unfortunately the rest of it eluded him.
He held out a hand towards her.
"Sure," he said. "I'm Gale, by the way. I'm sorry, I seem to have forgotten your name."

"It's fine." The feeling was mutual. She'd seen him, but it hadn't really been the time to get to know other members on the mission. Not that she wanted to anyways, with a few exceptions. Like now. The trainee took his hand, giving it a quick but firm shake. "Claude." She dipped her head in a short nod as well, and soon started to step away from him, summoing her pistol. "Ready when you are."

She had some sort of connection to Lex, that much Gale knew from the mission; though what exactly, he wasn't entirely certain, seeing as how he hadn't discussed much with the man over the course of the past several months.
But Gale just gave a little nod in greeting and took several steps back to gain some distance between himself and Claude, casting an approving glance at her weapon.
"I'm glad to see more gun users," he said, with the faintest flicker of a smile on his lips. "It seems rare these days to be sparring against a ranged weapon."
His first shot was less of a direct hit, more of a test shot, Gale hefting the rifle towards his shoulder so he could squint through the telescopic lens properly.

"The feeling is mutual." Even though that long range rifle looked like it'd pack a serious punch, there was an incredibly relief in fighting long range. It was a big reason she approached him in the first place, especially since he was a full hunter. She was hit, her step interrupted by the hit, but she kept moving regardless. Claude aimed and fired a shot back at him, at his torso. "Have any advice as a fellow long range fighter?" Who's been around a lot longer. HP: 45 / 50

Claude's shot was a little stronger than Gale had anticipated, which was relatively impressive. He arched a brow at her, clearly glad to be fighting someone whose skills were on par with his own. He stumbled back at her shot, and readjusted the rifle.
"Figure out a way to fight short range," he said simply, firing off a test shot. "Or a way to utilize your weapon in a short range fashion, I mean."

At that bit of advice, Claude couldn't help the skeptical raise of her brow as she eyed his rifle. Taken out of context, that statement would be very incriminating. "How do you utilize that for short range?" HP: 44 / 50

He smiled faintly, just the barest hint of one.
"It took me a while, but once I figured it out, it was relatively and embarrassingly obvious," said Gale. "Like this."
He flipped the rifle around, gripped it by the barrel, rushed forward, and swung it like a bat at Claude's legs.

Claude tensed, and shouldn't have. A more wise move would have been to get out of his range, but she was a bit taken aback by Gale's method. It was effectively a form of pistol whipping...but more like pistol clubbing, and not even a pistol, but a large rifle. The trainee was swept off her feet as Gale swung at her legs the weak spot for a tall person such as her. She hit the ground and rolled, pushing herself up to her knees as she took that moment to return fire at him. "But rather unexpected to an opponent." She commented, idly blowing some strands of hair out of her face. HP: 35 / 50

He looked only vaguely sheepish about having used his height to his own advantage by taking Claude out through the use of her legs - but in all honesty, it was how he had managed to survive this far. He took several steps back and caught the whistling blow of her next shot on his upper arm.
"That's generally the idea," said Gale, hoisting the rifle back into position and firing off another shot. "I learned very quickly that having a sniper rifle isn't always the ideal weapon when fighting hand to hand, so I had to improvise."

She pushed herself back up to her feet as Gale shifted back to firing, but shouldn't escape his shot. She pushed her a bit, and she turned to firing back at him, only managing to clip him. Claude gave a short nod. "Good thing you're in Death then." Because that sort of weapon in Sun would be troublesome...unless he was flanked by a handful of Moons. HP: 26 / 50

She was holding on remarkably well for a trainee. Gale took several quick steps back to gain more distance between the two of them, the rifle heavy on his shoulder.
"I've always been inclined to stay in Death," he said lightly, and fired off several quick shots in succession. "Never had a desire to transfer, seeing as how I don't particularly think I'd do as well elsewhere. I like to think I've done a relatively good job here, at the very least."

Sniper no snippingClaude let out a soft grunt as she was struck by a series of shots, nearly toppling over again before she just braced herself and took it. That's why the young man across from her was a full Hunter. "I'd say you'd have a shot in Sun." A pause, because of what she just said. "Or quite a few." There was another pause, before she asked: "How do you find Death?" HP: 15 / 50

The corners of his lips twitched slightly, as if he was hiding a smile.
"Begging your pardon, but I've never had any interest in Sun Division," said Gale, sounding faintly amused by the prospect. "Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's really just not my cup of tea. Not to mention I'd rather deal with Mark over Allan any day..."
The last part was said with a fair bit of exasperation as he squinted through the lens again, aiming the rifle carefully.
"I find it quite illuminating, instructive, and dangerous," said Gale. "The dangerous part is only because of Mark, really."
