The Arena

A strange Arena that lies on the outskirts of the city. It's not quite clear who created or maintains the Arena, as it sprung up before the current guild was formed. The Arena itself is simply a plain, flat stone circle of suitable size for all but the most gargantuan of creatures to spar in. There are no seats to watch from aside from some rocks that looks like the stone the arena platform itself is made of. Both guild members and townsfolk frequent the Arena from time to time in order to get some exercise and train.

It's thought that some sort of spirit watches over the Arena, for in spite of the lack of on-hand medical staff nobody has ever been permanently injured.
On the rare occasions that help has been needed but not in sight, someone has always managed to come by at just the right time.

It was early in the morning. It was earlier than many pokemon would be willing to greet the sun, though not abnormally early. The many early-risers had already begun to move about and tend to their business but none of them had yet made their way to the Arena. None, that is, except for Ty. His desire for combat and his mildly arrogant attitude may have been at the front of his personality but they weren't the only aspects of his identity. It was every morning that he mindlessly practiced a series of carefully choreographed movements. A step forward and a strike. Pull back. Shift back, launch forwards, strike. Raise the arm, turn it outwards with great force. Strike downwards with the forearm with great force, then strike upwards just as hard.

The act itself was only mindless because he had done it so many times and he had committed himself so completely to it that there was no need for thought.

[Open, though preferably it would be someone that Ty can actually fight]

Elena

The morning sun was rising overhead and hit the golden Milotic. She wasn't particularly blinding now that she was out of the water, but from what she could tell there did appear to be a few pokemon who struggled to walk around her, due to the glare coming off of her scales. Not that this discouraged her- Elena merely picked up the pace, winding through the surroundings of the Guild. Today was a relaxation day- Mercy hadn't had anything planned out for the morning, so she had the day to herself. It might've been the first in forever, now that she thought about it.

Strangely enough, she found herself at a circle hewn of stone. There... There honestly wasn't anything that extraordinary about it. It was a rather simple little place, but Elena found herself fascinated by the tiny little creature moving in the center of the ring. It moved rhythmically, with so much purpose. The Milotic gave a small coo, rushing forward to greet the creature "Hello-o-o-o!" The Pokemon was so tiny, but it looked so serious. Elena lowered her head so she could look down on its level.

Venari
Ty

Ty didn't react immediately. There was a short pause, the raising of an arm. The pivoting of the body on the back foot as he turned, stepped forward and came down with a closed fist. His right leg quickly drew back in and he continued his strikes in the direction of Elena, though it was clear that there was no intent for him to harm her. Had she been close enough for the first blow to have risked connecting he would have been quite careful to make sure it hadn't. "Hey. What's up?"

Ty normally would have been happy to pick a fight with anyone who came to the arena but there was a big difference between a "spar" and futility. He would fight whatever it was that he met in the field no matter the difference in size or strength but there was nothing he could glean from fighting a pokemon who was easily many times both his size and weight. He would come to blows with a Tyranitar if he had to as part of his team (and he'd win) but there just wasn't a point in trying to "train" that way. Not unless the Milotic wanted a serious match, with all the pain and injuries that came with such a fight.

Elena

The furry little ball continued to move before finally settling down. It was so interesting to watch- Elena had certainly never seen anything like that in the marshes. In fact, before Mercy and Peter had found her, she hadn't seen much of anything, let alone what this little bear was doing. When Ty addressed her, with a simple hello, Elena's smile only widened, and she let out a soft trill, her golden tail waving hello back. "Do you train here? Do you train often? Do you fight people or are you the only one here?" A small barrage of questions instantly lept from the Milotic's mouth. "Can you show me how to do that?"

The fact that she lacked hands was apparently not an issue- she wanted to move like the water in the way that Ty did.

Venari
Ty

Ty wasn't quite sure what to say or what to do. Being a fast-paced person himself he could deal with other fast-paced people well enough but even then this was a little much. Normally his exchanges ended in blows instead of words but that wasn't quite an option here. He had neither the inclination nor the reason to pick a fight with the strange, serpentine individual in front of him but there wasn't much he could really say to her request. "Can you show me how to do that?" was a very hard thing to answer, given that she very clearly lacked the limbs necessary to engage in such a task.

"You don't have any arms."

It was about as obvious as it got but it was hard to say much else.

Cut
Theodore Anastasia Boris

The three had come together. Donovan was the only absent member of the team, having gone off to do "more important things" at Theodore's suggestion. Boris came along by necessity. You couldn't leave a child alone and with nowhere else to place him there was no choice but to take him along. The result was that Boris sat patiently on the stone as Theodore and Anastasia "sparred".

Of course, it couldn't really be called a spar in any fair or proper right. Theodore had every advantage: age, experience, power and even typing. There wasn't a chance in hell for Anastasia to win.

"Hit me with your best."

Anastasia hesitated at first. She wasn't used to fighting. The idea of hitting someone else was foreign to her. She rarely lashed out or struck out and she only knew the simplest part of her own abilities. She was an utter novice in every sense and it showed, both in her power and her unwillingness to use it. The first attack was nothing more than a spray of water that Theodore didn't even try to block.

"Even if you hit me, it won't hurt."

...There was nothing else to do. This was a test, that fact had been very explicit. As she steeled herself, she drove onwards with the fact that being too weak was a much more terrible possibility than being too strong. She hadn't seen any other Scyther and there was no one else suitable to replace one. He was the only appropriate teacher. Anastasia's mind shifted as effectively as it could and the attacks that came towards Theodore slowly shifted to become stronger, faster and better defined. He didn't have to dodge them as he instead simply erected a barrier, but however slightly they were strong enough to hurt him. As she struck out as unrelentingly as possible, the attacks once more slowed down not from a fear but from simple exhaustion. It didn't take long. It didn't take nearly long enough but she could only curse her pitiful endurance.

"You've never fought before. You're weak."

...It was obvious. Dread flooded through her mind. Theodore's matter-of-fact tone didn't change anything. She was weak and she knew it. She lacked experience, she lacked training, she lacked age--she was nothing, she was nothing at all to a mercenary team. She was nothing at all to a Scyther that she needed to impress in order to keep her position in the team. It was over, just as simply as that. When they went back, she would be kicked out.

"Can you form your blades yet?" Anastasia looked up. Blades? "You can make blades out of water. They become good weapons when you fully evolve but you should still be able to shape them now."

Blades... she knew what he meant. She had seen them before. It had only been a few times but she had seen them. She knew them. She knew what they were. She thought that it might be pointless but if there was a way out she had to grasp it. If there was hope, she had to capitalize on it. If there was a chance she had to seize it because there was no other way forward for her. This was her only choice. She brought her fingers together and gripped the air as if she were miming and she focused. She had never made them before. She just knew where they came from and what they looked like and all she had to do was focus on that. She closed here eyes and simply tried to bring it forth, hoping that her body would do the rest.

Seconds passed into minutes. The utter silence, the anxiety of it all made it feel endless. Theodore simply watched no more than a few feet away as Anastasia did what she could. She didn't know how long she tried but it was Theodore that broke the silence. "You have potential."

Anastasia's eyes snapped open and she just barely caught a glimpse of the "blade" she had made. It was a crappy, wobbly looking thing with no form or style. It looked more like a pole with a tapered edge than a proper blade by any means. Of course, it was simply a glimpse; the moment she had been spoken to, the moment her eyes had opened she had lost her concentration and it had fallen apart. It was gone now, leaving her with only the vague memory of what she had seen.

"Go get some water and we'll try again in a bit."

Anastasia simply nodded, unwilling and uncertain as to how she should speak or what she should say.
