Naturally the first thing two semi-injured people did was walk out to the sparring rings to beat each other up more.

Naturally.

Chel was nervous, and she thought that was maybe an acceptable thing to be. She hadn't summoned her bow for over half a year now. She had had to return the daggers upon signing her wrist over, and now her hips felt bare, exposed and vulnerable without them. Her fingers thrummed at her sides as they got closer to the rings, closer to the only place in Deus Ex Academy that you were allowed to summon your weapons without repercussion.

"Go easy on me, okay?" Which maybe alluded to how nervous she was. "Wait I guess that's kind of cheatin' the bet, huh?" She bit her lip and shoved his side. "Do it anyways."

It'd be a lie if Jack said he wasn't immensely pleased they could finally spar on even footing that wasn't because of a collar keeping her down; that wasn't fair to either of them. In respect to Chel's nervousness, however, he toned down his eagerness to show off and, righting himself from the shove, assured her, "No charges, and I'll let you have the first shot."

Both of them would be needing time to get used to their strength and weapons anyway. He had a feeling Owain was going to be unwieldy for a while until he got used to him again; he had been during the transition from trainee to intermediate at least.

"You never lost your bond with him," Jack added as they exchanged concrete ground for turf. "It might be awkward at first, but just keep riding the bicycle."

That made Chel cross her arms, despite having just asked for it. "No. Go all out. You don't learn nothin' by crawlin'." She also rolled his eyes at his bike analogy. The problem was not losing the bond, but never having a bond to begin with.

"I'll ride somethin' else," she snorted, having finally crossed the hay bails. She didn't stop at the first ring though, she kept walking past the groups of trainees, the odd duo or trio. She wanted somewhere far away, somewhere somewhat more private because she was afraid of ******** up.

Once there she looked at Jack and said, "Well? Let's see my favorite tree sword."

"Suit yourself." He still pat her back as they left other trainees behind them. It'll be okay.

Giving Chel an ironic yes your majesty look, Jack summoned his weapon. As predicted, the shape, while familiar, had taken on a few new additions he was just going to have to get used to on the go. Owain hummed contentedly with himself; finally, he appeared in such a way that Jack was practically wielding a miniature tree.

"He's wishing you good luck," Jack translated, testing the weight with a slight frown.

"He can keep it," she said haughtily, despite having no confidence behind it.

Seeing as there was no way to escape it anymore, she took a deep breath and held out her right hand, outstretched and palm flat. Pink light began to weave it's way around her fingers in straight, jagged lines that looked very much like computer circuitry, branching and ending until they had formed the loose shape of a bow. They wove like braids of light until a dark shadow substance foamed from the center and formed thick, strong pieces of metal.

He was, of course, as beautiful as she remembered him for the short weeks she'd had him. She flickered his decal wings away, leaving the thin frame of the bow and nothing else. He fit in her palm perfectly despite having been absent, and she let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding.

While Jack tested the weight of his weapon, Chel spun hers like the double bladed sword that it was, striking a few of the training poses that she barely remembered before ending the routine in a shot that skimmed past Jack's cheek, missing only by a few inches.

Behind the move was a cocky, one eyed squint and a serious expression that broke into something juvenile and Chel-like. "Yer move, batman."

He hadn't gotten to see Tenebrae in literal months; his first impression was flashy, but Jack held no illusion that Chel would need careful nudges once the arrow zinged past him. Rather than flinch, he played it off and grinned.

It was good to see her upbeat like this again, without the glint of the bracelet at her wrist.

Unsure if he should really follow through with his bravado (his weapon seemed to hum now, glowing even without a charge), he decided to play it safe for now. Safe in that while he approached Chel head on, his swing was a basic vertical arc, testing how the weight was as he moved.

Chel tried to sidestep the sword but she was a hair too close and it shaved the back of her leg before she could say a thing about it.

But she did duck under the return arc and she tried to get her own swing in at him. Unfortunately she was so used to a dagger's range that she forgot to compensate for distance and it ended up being a short lived motion that swung at air.

Well it had been a while; she wasn't supposed to get it perfect on the first try.

She backed a few feet a way and held up a finger, the universal spar signal for pause. The bow got crunched between her knees, much to Tenebrae's protests. Then she took a few moments to tie up her hair in a tighter, more efficient bun (that still somehow managed to have hairs sticking out; it was a talent). Then she cheated and took her bow out from between her legs and started sprinting away, because 1) she could and 2) she had the choice to be long range if she wanted to.

All while cackling madly, because it was a d**k move she'd performed on Chris many, many times.

He couldn't believe he actually let her take that break, even though he had expected ehr to try and sneak in another attack on him. Goddamn it.

Still, a short, incredulous laugh left him as he chased after her. "What the ********, Chel! Get back here!"

"Snooze you lose Hawthorn!" she called, all the while firing arrows with shoddy precision. She couldn't aim on the fly anymore, but she had enough muscle memory to know that if she shot a whole barrage some of them had to hit.

She continued running, even through other peoples' spars, because that was the kind of class A d**k Chel was.

Well, she wasn't wrong. Several arrows stuck him as he chased her, and between the blinding barrage and his concentrated needed to keep balanced while wielding the sword, it was proving distracting. He did manage to get close enough just to tap her shield, a cheeky strike to say she couldn't outrun this giant.

"Thought Suns didn't run from a fight," Jack taunted her.

"Y'know what, I think you're right!" she said with feigned discovery. Immediately she stopped her her tracks, which gave her the time to swivel on her feet around him (he ran a few steps past her because his forward momentum was too great, his stride too long to compensate), pull up Tenebrae and fire an arrow directly into his backside.

That got her laughing her orange laugh, because it was always funny watching people get tripped up by her simple tricks. Chel had a particularly unique fighting style in that she avoided fighting completely, instead it was all dodging and tricks until it proved necessary to show force.

What was interesting was that it had only been used in tandem with Jack's heavy swings; he'd never really had the chance to be on the receiving end of her cheap entertainment.

The receiving end hurt, but the attack wasn't as much of a surprise as his reflexes were. After lurching forward from the hit, his foot pushed against the grass, and he turned and launched himself at Chel, driving the sword forward like a lance. Also as surprising to him was how natural it felt, or at least not as draining as it might have as an intermediate. He wasn't one that stuck to a particular style, but Jack did know how to use both his weight and the weight of his weapon to his advantage.

Damn those long legs of his. He caught up in no time, and had her lanced through the side with her bad shoulder, leaving it even more of an opening. She supposed she had to be thankful that he hadn't thought to aim for it yet.

Instead of fighting the jab, she went into it, using the metal to get herself closer to Jack, even if it was through an opening that one wouldn't normally take due to the damage it caused. Using it got her close enough to knock his sword away with her own, allowing her a kick to the center of his gravity. She'd thought to knee him in the balls, but she had to admit there was a bias because she liked them intact.

"Yer leavin' all the work to poor Owain," she muttered. "Least your reach is pretty good." Chel had the amazing ability to compliment, chatter and fight all at the same time.

She was rewarded with a grunt and some extra space as he stumbled back. "Not sure what you mean," he said, broaching said distance again with a similar attack as before. "I've always fought like this."

Chel pushed him back with another shove of her blade, which was somehow very satisfying. It wasn't often she got to see Jack thinking on the edge of his toes, and it was pleasant to know she'd caused it. "You keep throwin' him around but I ain't seein' your feet dance!" she taunted, sticking out her tongue.

< Find a place of purchase I will- >

Instead of listening Chel took from Tenebrae, ripped from him every ounce of energy that he'd stolen from her and used him for a change.

In a Chel fashion, she slid under the attack that she'd now recognized and fired a singular arrow from point blank. Normally the shot would arc and split into a multitude of shots while flying through the air, but being so close the singular arrow shot into Jack and then split. It was outside of the box, but it worked.
