The small framed leafling had decided to spend he free time bathing in the sun. So she had found a large rock to lay on and enjoy the warmth of the day before another rain decided to come. In her lazy hour she drifted off only to be woken with a surprise. A flock of Scorra had decided to come graze about, gracefully walking around the area and one of the flightless birds had stumbled upon Syqvara. It nudged her with its beak at first, testing to see if she lived, then pecked at her sleeve. Taking hold of the flowing fabric it lifted her arm and shook it. This is when Sy opened her bright green eyes and suddenly panicked.

Her reaction caused the Scorra to flap its wings and make a small cry before it took a step away from her. She took that time to scramble to her feet so that she could back away herself. The bird had another idea. It tilted its head and followed her. Syqvara waved an arm at it to keep it at bay. "Shoo. Shoo." How did one get them to go away? Her flailing arm did nothing to deter the Scorra and it kept following her. It seemed Sy had made a friend unintentionally. "Go. Go on. Shoo."

Ime had an all-new respect for merchants. She'd always considered them vital to society, but now she saw how hard their job really was. Selling your wares meant wandering, hawking, making signs, baking in the sun and generally depending upon the mood of passers-by. It didn't help that she also had to work through word-of-mouth and make familial connections.

After a morning of wandering the city looking for leads and selling a few salves and poultices, she'd decided to take a bit of a walk and clear her head. It wasn't long before she heard some irritated shouting. She doubted it would lead to work, but she was curious. Besides, she didn't have many friends in Tale.

What she found was a young Leaf woman flailing wildly, pursued by a very interested Scorra. Did she have food on her? Did Scorra even care? Ime wasn't a native of Tale, only visiting for work, so its wildlife was a little beyond her area of expertise. Scorra sometimes wandered into Sauti but they rarely stayed long, and none had ever chased her. Ime could help but laugh a little and approached, hoping that being outnumbered might scare the great bird away. "Do you need help?!" she called.

Too busy backing away from the bird, Sy didn't see the woman approaching so when she called out it was her and the Scorra both who were startled. She blinked and quickly looked toward who had called out, embarrassed to be seen trying to get away from an animal. The flightless bird called out and rapidly moved to put itself between Sy and Ime in a protective manner, though it's large body size knocked into the leafling and had her flat on her bottom.

Sy spit out a feather and swatted at the large pest so that she could see around it. "U-uhm, yea. I'm n-not sure what I d-did for it to f-follow me." In truth she had been dozing. Maybe it thought she had food? The Scorra fluttered it's wings and puffed out it's chest a bit as it turned its head to look at Ime. Syqvara stared at the creature. "W-what is it d-doing?"

Ime slowed when the bird put itself between herself and the object of its affection. Oh, that wasn't good. Her hands went out to her sides, splayed as if she was sneaking up on it, and she stopped, staring the beast down.

"It's threatening me," she replied, voice low. Uh-oh. Maybe she should have called a guard? She might have laughed if she was suddenly the intended target.

"Do you have anything on you it might want?" She wasn't sure what, exactly, Scorra liked but there had to be something. The magic she knew was mostly defensive or healing, but she could potentially cause some damage. She'd rather not, though. Instead, she took a forceful step toward the bird to gauge its reaction.

Threatening? Sy stared wide eyed at the bird now. As far as she could tell the woman hadn't done anything for the bird to act in such a manner. When asked if she had anything that the creature might want she shook her head. Syqvara had nothing on her. Moving slowly she got to her feet, doing her best to not alert the Scorra.

As Ime took the forceful steps toward the large bird it moved away. Noticing that Sy was on her feet it seemed to loose it's ruffled look and instead went to peck at the leafling's hair. It seemed most interested in the braids. Sy, of course, tried to duck away from it and move some feet away. The bird followed. When the Scorra went for her hair again Syqvara gave a small sigh and swatted at it's beak. "S-stop that." It didn't seem to listen. Turning her gaze back to the woman she looked a bit perplexed. "I-I think I h-have a new... ow!" The beast had pulled at her hair. Her pretty eyes turned toward the bird and she frowned at it. "T-that hurts." Her reaction made the Scorra tilt it's head at her.

Taking a side step away from the feathery beast, to which it followed, Sy would look at Ime. "I d-don't suppose y-you know anything a-about them?" She was really hoping this woman knew something and could give her advice.

Now Ime did laugh. So it may have decided to threaten her briefly, but it was a big feathered scaredy-cat in reality! Her posture relaxed and she grinned. Did she know anything about Scorra? No. Birds in general, though, yes.

"It might want your hair for a nest?" Did Scorra make nests? It was as if the girl had any beads in her hair to be mistaken for food. "Or it could think you're a Scorra? You! Shoo!" Ime took another threatening step toward the bird, knowing she was taking a bit of a chance. If it came down to it, she would see if wind or water would bother it enough to scare it away. Was the other girl's stutter stress-induced or natural?

Her hair for a nest? Sy did her best to duck away from the bird again, wanting to keep her hair where it was. When the woman took another threatening step and yelled the large bird became skid-ish and ran off, though it didn't go far. Syqvara was happy to at least not be crowded by the beast. "Th-thank you." Her cheeks were still tinted with pink from embarrassment. She seemed to avoid direct eye contact with Ime but peeked at the Scorra to ensure it wasn't trying to sneak back over.

Like a guardian the bird stood a bit ways away but kept it's eye on Sy. Little did either of the girls know that this particular bird had taken to the leafling and would stay with her. If she moved the bird moved to keep the distance from getting larger between them but it didn't get close enough to be scared off by the other woman.

Syqvara fidgeted a little as she looked back at Ime. "I-I'm not s-sure what I w-would have done i-if you hadn't h-helped." And it was true. The shy one wasn't at all sure how to deal with the bird.

At least the great bird wasn't plucking anything any more! Ime did notice that it was still hovering around, still watching them, but it gave no signs that it planned to charge. Maybe it was in love with her. Maybe this girl had fond herself a Scorra mate, the poor dear!

The girl was still stuttering, so Ime decided that it must just be her nature. It was sort of cute, really. It reminded her of Finnley.

"Oh, psh." The healer waved a dismissive hand. She hadn't done much to help! Just scared it off a little ways. This girl could probably have run and gotten rid of it eventually. At least it wasn't aggressive! How odd that it should be following them to wander away from the flock, though.

"I'm Ime," she said finally, smiling at the new Leaf woman.

She gave a look toward the Scorra as it watched them and then moved a bit closer to Ime. Sy was now weary of the bird. She was very fond of her hair and didn't want to see it plucked out to be used in a nest. As the woman introduced herself the leafling gave a shy smile. "H-hello, I'm Syqvara." Meeting new people made her slightly nervous, though for some reason she didn't seem to overly stutter with Ime. Could be the circumstance in which she met her. "N-nice to meet you." Sy reached a hand up to tuck her hair behind her ear and keep it away from her eyes.

The bird took a step toward them, turning its head so that it could stare at the women. It shook out its feathers and feigned interest in the ground as it got even closer, though it seemed to be keeping a good distance from them in case they got aggressive.

Ime was aware of the scorra still following but didn't pay it any mind. Maybe if they ignored it it would go away.

"That's a pretty name," she said with a soft smile to the girl. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the bird pretending to not notice them. Hopefully it wouldn't suddenly change its mind and make a move.

"Are you alright? It didn't hurt you, did it?" She leaned over and scrutinized the girl's scalp. She didn't see any blood or anything...

Her cheeks burned a bit brighter as Ime said her name was pretty. It was a rare thing to hear. Mostly people thought it was nice or interesting, never pretty. "T-thank you. I-I like your n-name too." Sy did her best to meet her gaze, though when the question of being hurt came up she shook her head. "I-I don't think s-so.." To be on the safe side she reached up and felt in the same area where she had been pecked. There was a sore spot but no bump or blood. "N-no." She brought her hand away from her head and held it up so that Ime could be sure.

Ime's name was much simpler, admittedly, but maybe that made it all the more unique? But nevermind the talk of names, she worried more about the state of the poor girl's scalp. Ime stepped forward and craned her neck, peering at the spot Syqvara was touching. She smiled then and shook her head.

"Nah, it's alright," she agreed, smiling at the girl. "Do you want to head into town? May I ask what you were doing out here? I wouldn't have noticed you if you hadn't shouted!" The field still held more scorra than people a dozen to one!

Knowing that her head was alright she seemed to relax. At least the bird hadn't taken a chunk of her hair either. Syqvara rubbed at her scalp once more, this time to ease the small stinging that lingered. "I was r-resting. I c-come out here o-often." At least once a day if she can manage to get her chores done on time. Though she was embarrassed to tell anyone of the reason. "M-maybe we should go i-into town." After all, Sy wasn't so sure how the bird would react if they stayed.

"That's a good idea, come on," the hybrid replied, waving for Syqvara to come with her. The scorra might run when they got nearer to the people, and if not? Well, even the dimmest scorra could be controlled by the populace of a settlement.

"You live here, then?" she asked, continuing polite conversation. Every person was their own adventure. It was always exciting to meet someone new. Of course she'd been meeting a lot of Leaf folk lately. "I'm not from here, you can probably tell. I'm here for work, but I like it. Everyone so far had been very kind." Or, at the very least, polite in their distaste for her.

Giving a nod she moved to follow, her bare feet meeting the soft ground easily. Sy wasn't sure if the scorra would follow or not. When Ime carried on the conversation she took a minute to follow what was being asked. "O-oh, yes. I l-live here with m-my mother and b-brother." Now that the pain in her scalp was subsiding, she lowered her hand to her side.

"I d-did notice." The girl smiled at Ime, a sign that she wasn't being hostile. "I-I'm glad you like it h-here." It was always nice to hear someone not from the area say they liked her home town.
