This is a private rp between Yayoi (Kosomot) and Fatal Irony (Wretch)

Time seemed so fleeting these days for the Kalona stallion. He had escaped his father for the most part. Having been run off and hunted like a common beast by his younger sister. Why she was allowed to stay with Valarauco and not him was a mystery to Kosomot.

Perhaps he reminded his father of his mother. Gothsmog was his progeny with the new mare his father had picked up. Even still.

But he did not dwell on it most days. There was no use. So he merely wandered the outskirts of his father's territory. The familiar warmth of the volcanic fields kept him here. To Kosomot the rest of the world was cold and it felt as if it would freeze his bones. But he was always moving. Staying out of reach of his father's sight. Downwind of Gothsmog's nose.

He had run down a large deer this morning, snapping it's neck. The stallion was not in the mood for playing with his food today. In fact, his mood was quite sour as he buried his muzzle into the flesh and blood of his prey. There were many new scents wandering by recently that sent up red flags. He had no real knowledge of the recent goings on. His family having been sequestered for so long in the sulfur filled mountain.

The mare couldn't help but be a wanderer here in the kawani lands. She was an outsider here and the place was full of strange creatures and places. The kalona she;s met, if they could rightfully be called, were pathetic creatures mostly, save those who had come from the Great Herd or from other outside places. The kawani lands themselves seem to dilute the blood and lessen their noble heritage. It was supremely disappointing.

So she wandered, looking for who-knew-what. She enjoyed the travel and seeing the different landscapes, hunting the different game. It wasn't all bad, but it was entirely... boring.

When she caught the scent of blood, mingled as it was with the sulfur in the air, her heart began to quicken. Was this simply an injured animal? Or a predator with some success? Part of her hoped the later to break up her otherwise uneventful day.

She'd been stalking around on foot, her wings pinned closely to her side. She'd tried sweeping the area by air, but the nearby volcanic activity was something unfamiliar to her and she felt better on the ground, away from the heat and the ash. So it was on foot that she crept silently as death around an outcropping of rock (almost a small mountain, she mused) and caught sight of a most familiar sight- another kalona. She stopped, keeping herself concealed as best she could while still observing him. He was faced away from her, but she knew he was also downwind and she wouldn't be hidden long, even with him nose-deep in that carcass. She elected for a more direct approach.

"That's quite a kill." Her voice was carefully neutral, taking the male's measure. So many kalona in this region were wont to attack first and ask questions never, particularly when food was involved. She'd had herself a successful hunt the night before and was not particularly hungry, though she wasn't above stealing the deer if this male proved to be an insufferable fool.

Kosomot could smell her coming a mile away. Even with his nose buried in the deer's flesh. Gothsmog may of had a good nose but his was better. So he merely waited until she made herself known. If she were to merely pass he would not pursue. She smelt of blood and foreign earth, which only slightly peeked his interest.

It had been a long time since he had come across an unknown.

When her voice broke the silence from behind him, his long tail snapped against the ground as he lifted his head. His snout a darker shade of blue than the rest of his body. Firey eyes narrowed just a bit as he turned his body enough so that she was not behind him. That left him open too easily to attack if that was her intent. It also kept him between her and his meal. "Yes and it's mine."

She couldn't help a smirk at his possessiveness of his meal. It had a certain primitive quality, the immediate defense of one's food. She chuckled aloud, glaring down at the male with an air of superiority. "If I had wanted the deer I would have it by now." There was no challenge to her voice, just a simple statement of fact. She had no doubt the male was stronger than her, but she was fast and she was clever. She'd managed to outwit more than a few out of their meals. Still, she had no such designs on this one. Instead she circles the male, leaving a respectful distance between them. She was careful not to turn her back to him or take her eyes off of him as she completed her circuit.

He was an attractive male, muscles tightly corded under his dark flank, hair fire against the deep blue. His eyes held an intelligence to them, among the suspicion and threat. Yes, he was compelling to look at which was enough to inspire her to linger. "I would ask how the hunting is here, but clearly it is well enough." The corner of her mouth twitched in something that could not quite be counted as a smile, but neither was it a threatening expression. "Are you a wanderer or do you make this-" she gestured around with her head, her eyes on him still - "Your home?" She doubted he made home here or anywhere else for very long. He had the weary look of someone who kept on the move, much as she did.

The look of superiority she gave him, he couldn't help be riled by it. While he wasn't as quick to violence as some it was just that look that irritated him. "I highly doubt it." He eyeballed her as she circled around him, turning his head to keep a suspicious watch. Female Kalona were vicious and tricky. That he knew very well from his younger half sister.

But Gothsmog was another beast all together.

"Its not my permanent home, no. My father rules here. Though he rarely comes down from the fire mountains." His interest in the meat in front of him had waned. "I like to, on occasion, remind him of the thorn in his side that I am."

She ignored his doubtful comment and baleful glare as she took him in. He spoke of family, but not fondly. She herself had lost her family, but she didn't spend too much time lamenting that fact. Still, it was interesting that this male felt compelled to stay near a family that evidently wasn't fond of him.

"A thorn in his side, are you? What have you done to disappoint him so?" She had a sudden twinge in her stomach as she considered perhaps he was impure and that was the reason for his father's disapproval. She flared her nostrils slightly, trying to scent him, but couldn't tell if anything was amiss.

Kosomot chuckled darkly at her question. Cocking an eyebrow as he gave the mare a good look over. Catching the light huff of breath as she attempted to sniff him out. As if anything she could smell of him would give her anymore information than what her eyes could.

"Simple. I remind him of my mother so he'd rather me dead. An ice queen in her own right. She ran off and took my brood sister with her." The stallion stretched out his webbed wings for a second before folding them tight against his back once more. "You sure like to ask a lot of questions don't you."

His eyes lidded half way. "My turn. Who are you and why are you here?"

"That sounds like a win-win to me, if your mother was someone he hated. I don't see why he takes it out on you." She shrugged, intrigued but unwilling to let it show. This male before her sounded much like his own father - unwilling to let go of the past. After all here he was reminding his father of his presence instead of merely leaving and making his own life. There was something almost admirable in it.

She snorted at his question, beginning to relax. "Who am I and why am I here?" That seemed a loaded question suddenly. Why was she here? She followed an idealistic stallion to war in a foreign land, lost, and now she wanders looking for... what, exactly? She made a displeased "hmmmrmrmr" noise under her breath but settled on answering simply with "My name is Wretch. I caught the scent of blood and decided to investigate." It was true enough. She shifted her wings a bit, tail twitching behind her.

He couldn't help the amused look that settled upon his face. It was always interesting to see other's assumptions about things. "He didn't hate her. No, he respected her well enough. The fact that I remind him of her really has no baring. He's a cruel monster through and through. He needs no reason for what he does other than it is what he wants."

The stallion mulled over her name. It was a simple name really. More liken probably to be a description than a real name. "Wretch...." The spaded end of his tail gave a subtle flick. "I am Kosomot." The reason for her being there was about as mundane as her name. "A typical response of deflection. kalona aren't sharks like Skinwalkers. No, I think you were just being nosy. Lucky for you, you ran into me first. My little sister is not too keen on strange visitors."

She could feel the judgement in his eyes and raised an amused eyebrow. Did he really think she'd open herself and her motives just because he'd asked? Not that she had much to hide. "Did I not just tell you I came to investigate the scent of blood? Is that not an outright admission of being "nosy" as you put it?" She gave a slight laugh. He was a presumptuous stallion, and slightly haughty. She could feel his superior attitude, but didn't mind it. Confidence had its merits, after all. He'd clearly been surviving on his own for some time, which was impressive in the inhospitable land around them.

"It's a pity I didn't run into your sister. It would have amused me to knock her down a notch." She flashed a crooked smile at him, eyes gleaming. "Though I'm curious why you didn't attack me yourself, if this territory is so precious."

"The scent of blood can be smelt anywhere. Its a cop out admission if I have ever heard one." If blood was all it took to grab her interest then she probably was as boring as this conversation. The smell of blood, for Kalona, was a common thing. Being meat eaters and all.

A tight lipped smirk curled the corner of his lips as an amused gleam appeared in his eyes. "I do not believe you would enjoy meeting Gothsmog. You would not run into her. You would never see her coming. She is an indiscriminate killer through and through. And I would advise you watch your back roaming through these lands." There had been a few times in the past where his baby sister had gotten the jump on him. Luckily though he had managed to run her off, not unscathed though.

He laughed. A deep, throaty laugh while cocking an eyebrow at her. "Its not my territory so I don't give two shits about it. I told you before, I only come here to antagonize. Nothing more."

She rolled her eyes at his argumentative attitude. "Of course blood in itself is not a remarkable scent to run across. However we are in a rather sulfurous area full of other smells, a place mostly barren for miles. I certainly have not come across any other carnivores here. I came to see if there was anyone of interest here." She hadn't yet decided if her mission was successful. He was full of threats and bluster, but that was boring without action to back it up. "You're never just bored? I imagine you must be, to spend your time tethered to a territory that is not your own for the sole purpose of annoying someone whose annoyance you won't even see, since you avoid your father completely." And really, what is the fun in tormenting someone if you never see the effects of said torment? She ignored his assertions of his sister's prowess. She didn't know him or his family well enough to make claims against the unknown mare's prowess, and felt idle posturing boring anyway. Perhaps she would meet this Gothsmog by chance and see for herself how impressive she is. Perhaps he would not. It was pointless to speculate on the matter.
