General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

  • Part 1
    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again
    - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP
    - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss

    Bonus Mechanics
    - This bonus is consumable.
    - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.

    - Trainees: 0 recoveries
    - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
    - Hunters: 1 recovery
    - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

  • Part 2
    Mechanics

    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into
    - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can
    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into

    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly

Today's to-do list had only one, very important thing that needed taking care of. The Miss Taken Tower, the last damn training course Peyton needed to complete in order to get her specialist patch from Allan. It should have been done by now, but her life had been a little more on the busy side as of late, and it had been easy to push it back again and again, but no more. It needed doing, and it was time to just dive in and do it.

...And perhaps she wouldn't have to do it alone.

The Sun paused on her way to the course, attention snagged by a familiar(ish) face she hadn't actually seen in a few weeks now. There was a moment of indecision, of debating if she should call out to him, then she was smiling shifting her trajectory just slightly so it'd place her directly in his path. "Lukas." While their first meeting hadn't ended on perfect terms, it had not ended badly, either. At least she hadn't thought so. "You busy?" Her tone, while sweet as sugar, didn't leave a whole lot of wiggle room to refuse her.

His name made him twitch, uncomfortable maybe, but it did at least get his attention: turning with a wary look on his face that melted slowly to something less wary as his eyes settled on Peyton. It only took him a moment to settle into a smile for her, pausing his long strides and shoving both hands into the pockets of his coat.

"Not too busy for you, I'd say." It was corny, probably but he didn't seem to care: delivered it with an easy carelessness. "What's up?"

If she noticed the slight flinch or the wariness in his features and posture before pale eyes landed on her, Peyton didn't show it. However the smile she'd been wearing did hike up at the line, pleased despite how very corny it was. Corny was just fine. "Well that's good to know," she mused, making a metal note, but doing so in an obvious sort of way--a certain twinkle in lavender eyes, the slight twitch of her lips or subtle tilt of her head.

"I've got to clear a training course, and a little pleasant company would make it that much more tolerable." She didn't mine courses, honestly, but she had heard Mist was a pain in the a**. A delightful compilation of all the other courses combined.

"How about it?"

"What do I get out of it?" He was teasing, at least, winking at her. Lukas probably wasn't actually that concerned about the gains, but he also wasn't going to blindly agree to help her with something when he didn't know anything about it, how dangerous it was, or what it needed from him. He didn't start walking, at least, instead lingering with his hands shoved into his pockets to consider Peyton where she stood.

"And what do you get out of it?"

"Well, I get the pleasure of your wonderful company to make an otherwise arduous task enjoyable." The smile brightened. She might have been laying it on a little thick with that, but ******** it.

"You," she pointed a finger at him, leaning forward with a smirk. "Let's see." A thoughtful him as she looked up at him, head tilting. "A home cooked meal, maybe? Unless there's something else you want. I can be very geberous." Not that he didn't already know that.

"And runic tech if you make it to the end. That always comes in handy."

"Can we leave it open-ended?" This came with a spark, teasing, but at least he'd fall in with her -- wherever she wanted to go, he'd follow. It had been a foregone conclusion the moment Peyton had approached. Lukas swept hair back off of his forehead as he smiled down at her.

"Some favor in the not-too-distant future? You'll have veto power, but I can't even imagine what I'd want, right now, except a trip back out into the real world." He shook his head just a little. That, clearly, wasn't an option.

"If that's what you want." The Sun's shoulders twitched up in a small, easy shrug before she started walking, Lukas falling into step beside her. "what, do you need a chaperon or something?" Not unusual. They didn't like trainees heading off on their own, at least not at first.

As they reached the tower that was the Mist training course the girl gave a low whistle. "This is going to be a pain in the a**." Red runes flashed as she summoned, but before she pushed open the door she looked back at him, smiling. "Can't back out now though," They had a deal. If she had to suffer through this she wasn't doing it alone.

The first stage was Sun, but then Peyton knew that. She may not have attempted this course before, but she'd definitely done her homework on it. Shadowlings stirred as she stepped into the chamber, and as one they turned, rushing towards her.

There was the sound of multiple impacts stacked nearly on top of each other, then a puff as huge chunk of the little beasties vanished, dissipating into Fear particles.

Peyton went in first, and in a practiced way, she drove off the monsters -- so Lukas followed with an edge of confidence that was probably not completely warranted. Indeed, as he entered the tower he was briefly shocked by the darkness, swarmed by monsters, and his attempts to strike them back were fruitless.

They savaged his shield.

Lavender eyes snapped back in alarm at the sounds of a struggle, and Peyton sucked in a breath through her teeth as small, swarming bodies rose up in a wave against Lukas. Maaaaaybe she would have warned him about what he was walking into. Maybe.

Moving quickly, she took a hard swing at the wall of shadowlings swarming around Lukas to give him an opening to slip through, then she was moving ahead once again to clear a path.

Peyton hit hard, and it was exactly what he needed to burst through: striking aside shadowlings and finally managing to catch his breath as he came out the other side.

"That sucked." It was succinct, annoyed, drawing in a breath and looking up the stairs. "I should have asked for two favors maybe."

She offered an apologetic smile. "If you want two favors, that's fine." If he wanted three that'd be fine too. Peyton was just grateful for the company.

Climbing higher, the Sun made a face as she realized what their next task would be. Here, at least, Lukas would have an advantage. This was the Death course--well, this was a version of the Death course. They were in his wheel house now.

"Watch your step," was tossed at him over her shoulder as she headed out across the floor. In the actual Death course you did this in golems. Peyton wondered if the traps in this version would be less all out deadly. Probably not. She kept moving slowly forward until her eyes snapped to the tile directly in front of her. It looked...off. Slightly raised, crooked maybe. Tsking softly, the Sun marked the tile with a flag.

Lukas was looking at her tile, studying and thoughtful, his eyes narrowed -- taking note of what it looked like, so that he could mark his own if he needed it -- when his foot slipped just slightly onto the tile next to it. He felt the shift beneath him of something catching, heard a faint warning tic tic tic, and was quick to step back out of the way before a geyser of fire spewed up from the ground where he had been.

He stared at it as it spat and shuddered and then, slowly, died back down.

"That seems excessive."

"Little bit," she agreed, watching the pillar of flames as it sputtered and died out. Her tone suggested she wasn't exactly surprised to see it, more resigned than anything else.

Turning back towards the exit, she pursed her lips as she considered the tiles in front of her. There weren't many, this was a much smaller course than the actual Death course. She wondered if a mad dash across the finish line wasn't the best option here.

She rocked on her heels, weighing her options, and then just went for it. Speed was on her side, she across the small gap of tiles in the blink of the eye, unsure if she'd picked a safe past, or moved so quickly she'd managed to not trigger anymore traps.

This time, before he stepped, Lukas took a moment to breathe and look around him -- so while Peyton took off in a rush, rising danger at full tilt, he tipped his head and looked at the squares to find where it was safe to step and where it wasn't. He moved lightly, in a familiar sort of way, delicately putting his foot down and then stepping sideways to plant a flag on a crooked tile. It would get him through, at least, in her wake.

And he looked immensely pleased with himself.
