If there had ever been a time when Maebe wanted to be fashionably late, it was now. Sasha told her that she was available in her room, right now. That meant Maebe had to suck it up and just go already, or Taym was going to rip her kidneys out and use them as soccer balls. This, she firmly believed.

She showed up a few minutes later, hair pulled up in a big messy bun and absolutely no overly sexy clothes because she was not going to get distracted this time, and knocked on her door.

"It's me." Maybe she wasn't home. Maybe she'd been lying just to make Maebe walk over. She waited one, two, three seconds, and then considered making a run for it.

Maebe would not have to wait long for the door to open. It was as if the woman behind the door could sense the blonde's trepidation - and it was then, on the fourth second, that Sasha opened the door.

She was silk stockings, the seams delineating the curves of her calves and rise of her thighs. She was black lace covered in black silk. She was an impeccably tailored pencil skirt. She was perfectly coiffed midnight hair, sharp blue eyes and pillowy red lips. She was killer heels, needle sharp and wickedly high. She was predator, and she was hungry.

"Maebe." One elegant brow quirked upwards, those keen blue eyes taking in the woman's appearance. "Do come in."

The room was no longer the mess it had been upon Evan's return from Las Vegas, but there were a few telltale dents in the wall where she'd been particularly vicious to a plate, a bowl, a shoe.

She waited for Maebe to enter, and the door was closed with a poignant click - followed by the door locking, and then: "To what do I owe the pleasure, darling?"

She could hear this in her head.

Maebe was well practiced in keeping a straight face, even if she did want to make howling noises at the moon. Instead, she smiled sweetly, and walked into the room without a lick of hesitation present in her step. Make it quick, she told herself. That was all you had to do. Talk to her, clear things up, and then get out before she caught you looking.

Simple as that.

"You've got a killer new sense of style." Maebe purred out appreciatively, because that was what was expected of her. Play it right, Maebe. Don't let them see you sweat. "I like it. You know how I love beauty."

She turned on her heel, and took a sharp breath. "I'm here because I met someone a while back, and all this time, I thought it was you. So I wanted to get it all cleared up, and I guess tell you what I saw. Do you know a woman named Vivian?"

There was something to be said for pretty blonde hair. Otto, Evan, Maebe. It was such a lovely color, gilded and multifaceted. Yes, out of all of the possible colors of hair that a person could have, this was surely Sasha's favorite.

What was not Sasha's favorite, however, was the current topic. In fact, it was very much not her favorite topic, and it showed in the animalistic way she bared her teeth. It was not a smile but a snarl, and Sasha took a step closer to Maebe, and then another, and another - before pausing.

Her voice was sharp, perhaps even a little shrill.

"What do you know of her?"

Well. Several of Maebe's questions had been answered in that singular reaction. For one, she was now certain the woman who'd tried to have her killed was definitely not Sasha. For two, whoever it was had stolen Sasha's whole look. And for three, this chick was not okay with that. She'd never seen Sasha angry before, but she assumed this was way past anger. This was outrage.

"I know she's been walking around looking like you. And I know she thought it was super cool to break my jaw and tell all her little Taym puppets to go pump me full of seed. But most of all, I finally know that when she told me you were her 'body', it doesn't mean you and her are.. like.. the same person. Because I sort of thought you were."

Her skin burned red with embarrassment, and a little fear.

"But you're not. I get that now. And I know she's looking for you. She's a mean little b***h, and not the good kind. I just - wanted to apologize, I guess. For ever thinking that could be you."

There was a moment where Sasha found Maebe's apology rather endearing. Precious, really -- but that quickly changed when Sasha realized that Maebe did not think her capable of the things Vivienne was capable of. It was very likely that Maebe did not intend for her words to come across as insulting, but to Sasha, they were.

Very quietly, Sasha watched that pretty flush spread across Maebe's fair skin as those words sank in and took root. Like an ugly, tenacious thing it spread with determination, and Sasha's vision turned red.

To think that the beautiful, sensual woman before her seemed to be taking pity on her, oh it ******** infuriated her. Sasha had been through too much to ever allow herself to be pitied. Revered, worshipped, feared, yes, feared.

"Maebe," her voice was nothing more than a serpentine hiss, and Sasha took a step closer, "I am more than she could ever hope to be. She broke your jaw?" Sasha moved with a cobra's speed and grace, her fingers finding purchase against Maebe, those impeccably groomed nails digging into the pretty skin that graced the delicious curve of the blonde's jaw, "I will rip it from your face and leave you gurgling on your own hot, frothy blood."

Sasha leaned in and inhaled the heat of Maebe's skin, the pad of her thumb pressing against the pulse that beat at the base of the other woman's neck. She let out a sibilant purr the instant before her teeth clicked shut just below Maebe's ear.

And then she was moving away with a cultured laugh.

"Did you tell her where to find me, darling? I do hope you did."

It was pure PTSD that had Maebe freezing up in horror when that face was coupled with a hand on her jaw, the same jaw that face had broken so long ago. She could feel the ache of pain suddenly throbbing, phantom and purely psychological, as if she was registering and reliving the moment all over again. She was a deer in Sasha's headlights, and once more merged Sasha's countenance with the woman who'd hurt her, and hurt those girls. Without meaning to, she felt a stab of hate mingling in with the horror in her blood, and her eyelids thinned just slightly, glaring at her just the way she'd glared at Vivian.

She slapped Sasha's hand away from her jaw, just a little too late; she'd already moved away, and Maebe looked more like she was being dismissive, than trying to get away.

"I tried to tell her that I knew, but she wasn't interested in listening to me talk. Hence the jaw thing. So no, my dear. She doesn't know you're sitting pretty here at Deus, threatening other hunters. Lucky you."

She'd done what she'd come to do. She'd even write a god damned mission report if Taym started to harp on her for it. But no longer did she consider Sasha the woman she'd enjoyed herself with, so long ago. She was just another a*****e.

"Well, good luck with all that bullshit." Maebe muttered out in a huff, moving towards the door. "I wash my hands clean of all of it." And, deep down, she relished in the fact that she'd been right, after all. She never should have come tell Sasha anything, in the first place. Holding all your secrets in was always the right choice, for her.

"Who is Taym, and what are these puppets?"

Sasha's question was posed in boredom, all of Maebe's mutterings dismissed with a wave of her hand. Like the ugly, quick little thing that she was, Sasha slipped between the blonde and the door.

"And Maebe, you beautiful creature, it wasn't a threat." She blinked a little owlishly, her anger dissipating as quickly as it had blazed to life. There was something deep in her eyes that hinted at how utterly unhinged she was, though a smile spread across her lips. "I have a temper, darling, you'll have to excuse me. I meant nothing by it."

She paused.

"Do forgive me. Let's share some wine, I've some fine chocolate that pairs nicely with it. You can tell me all about Taym, these puppets, and how you came across Vivienne."

Another pause, this one much heavier.

"Unless you'd rather leave. I won't stop you."

Her smile said otherwise.

Maebe stared straight into the eyes of a woman who clearly did mean every word she said, even when she was flying off the handle with anger issues. She did not believe Sasha, and knew she meant everything by it, but the attempt to soothe was taken as just enough to stop her from walking out the door, if only because she wanted this to be the last time she had to see her. If she had more questions (and she obviously did), Maebe hadn't finished the job she'd come to do.

And she had to do that much. Or else she'd be back, or worse, Sasha would come looking for her. Loose ends were never her style.

"I'll have some wine." She agreed, "and some chocolate," because of course, "But only long enough to sate your curiosity. When you get all your answers, let me know, so I can get out of your way." She moved away from the door, and folded her arms, clearly waiting for the offered payout before giving her any answers to her questions.

At least she was going to get something out of all of this. Free wine and chocolate. Silver linings.

Sasha moved away from Maebe with a curt, pleased sound. The woman idly gestured at the couch (make yourself comfortable) as she approached the small wine cooler she kept in her apartment. With quick, efficient gestures, Sasha selected a Muscat from the temperature-controlled cooler. She went through the motions of uncorking and pouring the wine as she spoke.

"Taym. Tell me about him, and also of the puppets."

She approached the small, sleek coffee table and sat the glasses down before moving back towards the kitchen to retrieve the chocolates.

Maebe flopped down on the couch and lounged, letting her head rest back against it.

"You want me to tell you about Taym?" That was a reasonable, and boring enough request. "He's a really grody hobo Moon Hunter, who has a bunch of clones of himself, and the Vivian lady uses his clones like servants. They do whatever she says. And I mean, whatever she says. Which would be kind of kinky if Taym wasn't so thin and mean looking." She picked at her perfectly manicured nails, trying not to think too hard on the night in question. "They all looked exactly like him. I'd feel bad for them, if they weren't preparing to drag me away and torture me to death."

Well. She still felt a little bad.

Sasha settled in on the couch next to Maebe and placed the small tin of chocolates in the other woman's lap. Clones. She shook her head and smiled to herself behind a rich chocolate truffle. Her breath warmed the confection just enough that it melted fantastically against her tongue, and Sasha was silent as she enjoyed the sweet.

"And she is looking for me, you say? I do wonder why. It wasn't as though I took this body from her. She took mine - I simply favor this one over the other, and I have no desire to have it back."

Sasha pursed her lips and took a sip of her wine.

"Is she here, then? On the island?"

"She took your body?" Maebe's hands were already in the chocolates, but she paused right before putting one in her mouth to let that sentence sink in. "How the hell - I mean, so you're saying this body you're in right now." Maebe unconsciously raked her eyes down it, and instantly regretted the action. They snapped back up to Sasha, and furrowed with determination. "You're saying that is somebody else's body, and they are in yours. But you are.. like.. the real you, inside there?"

Deus had shown Maebe many ridiculous, absurd, and often obscene abnormalities in her time as a Hunter. But this was a brand spanking new one.

"She's not on the island. As far as I know, anyway." Maebe took her glass, and popped the chocolate in her mouth right before taking a sip. Her eyes rolled helplessly; God, that was good. "We were out in the deserts of good old USA when we encountered her. As far as I know, she had no way to follow us back."

"Viviane took my body. I was saved by a creature named Cairt; a sort of guardian of my bloodline - a follower of the weapon Mela, passed down from hunter to hunter until her song was silenced by Conquest."

Sasha took a sip of her wine, pale eyes watching Maebe closely.

"She stole from me something that has little value to me now - but I am not going back to the crypt to watch it. I will not be imprisoned there in her stead. I do not care if the Guardian awakens - in fact, it could be a powerful thing to control - but Viviane does."

Another silence, and then: "There is a door, Maebe. With locks. I know where it is. There is power there, where it is kept. I only need the keys."

As was typical for Maebe, she glazed a little when information came at her. This was why she was so good at secrets - why so many people swept their skeletons and pain under her skin, where no one would think to look. She heard everything Sasha was telling her, but she thought so little of it. She never dug too deep, and she refused to push. What she took from the conversation was that Sasha was involved in things way above her paygrade - and she was probably kind of evil too, to have seduced this much chaos into her life.

"Well, I've got nothing but locks." She quiped, her sense of humor still inappropriate as always. "But if I see a key - "

She did know of a key. And that was the exact moment Maebe realized she might know too much, and closed up like a trap.

" - I'll let you know. This wine is so good. Thank you for sharing it with me. I hope I was able to help out, or at least, not make things worse. But if you're happy with - who you are - in there - then, I'm happy for you." She gave the woman a sweet, flirtatious smile. "I'm always glad to help."
