They were in the woods, of course. It was one of KD’s favorite places. The fact that she was with Arias only made things all the more comfortable for her. He was her best friend and partner and she loved him dearly. The easy banter between them had quickly turned to more serious joking. She had her bow, of course, and had made mention of the fact that she could draw a bulls eye and hit it despite the fact that the stick was not a balanced, fletched arrow.
So the terms were laid out. Her request was fairly tame. All she wanted was for him to keep her in cupcakes for a week. His request, however, had shocked her, though she agreed to it all the same. She was confident that she would be coming out in cupcakes at the end of this.
She put the bow up and tested the string, finding it taut and springy. Without a proper wrist guard she didn’t snap it like she had wanted but all in all it was a well made little bow despite not having any arrows to accompany it, one of the many things Sherwood wondered about in bored hours. Just what good was a bow without any arrows? She hoped that the Cosmos, or whoever, had a better plan than to leave a knight, the Earth’s protector, without any proper implements for, you know, protecting.
Still, there was a bet to settle so she picked up her bow and the stick in question that, in her mine, was rather pointy and straight. A little light maybe but she couldn’t break the back end and fray the bark a little like she wanted. That wasn’t part of the rules and she was sure it wouldn’t be allowed. With a sigh she fit the stick to the strong, testing it against the bow and feeling out it would release. Nothing like this would be lethal or even remotely damaging. It might sink into a soft target, like mud, but would bounce off anything more sturdy than that. With the target roughly rendered on a tree with creative methods all that was left was to make the shot.
Newgrange was watching. Arias would be the judge in the end.
She closed her eyes and let the stick fly.
KD opened her eyes and smelled the wonderful smell of baking cupcakes. She was with Arias standing in the bakery and he had a pleased smirk on his face. She’d lost the bet, all that was left to do was fulfill the consequences. She looked down in dismay at the large, garish cupcake costume she wore. There were flyers in her hand and for the next hour she had to dance outside and deliver them to people walking by.
