It had been a long time since Kyndall had done anything like this. Harmony outgrew Easter egg hunts a long time ago and now popped in only to say hello on a rare day off from both school and work or for holidays. It had been ages since Kyndall bought little Easter dresses and picked up plastic grass and brightly colored eggs. Now, with Sarah, she had a second chance. Tony's first, all things considered. Their little angel looked beautiful in pale pink, a color Kyndall usually disdained but had now grown fond of because of their child.
She walked in with the little girl, smiling and happy. Their daughter wouldn't remember any of this but both of her parents would, she made sure of that with the camera strapped around her wrist.
After saying hello to Tony, who had to be an attentive host, she helped Sarah toddle around the library among other people with Dogby trotting alongside them. The corgi’s costume was very cute, bunny ears and a small suit covered her fur. This seemed to excite the poor toddler who looked torn between grabbing for eggs, her puppy, or the myriad other colorful things that captured her attention. Kyn talked to her and showed her everything, picking her up when there were larger crowds.
Once they made it to the children’s room she let her daughter down again to discover all the surprises her father left in there for the smaller children. Kyn had helped, of course, and delighted in how everything looked. They were a small family now, at least in the day to day, but no less happy for that. Sarah picked up a bright blue egg and showed it to her mother with a happy smile to which she got a smile in return. She offered the basket and the girl dropped it in dutifully.
Kyn offered words of encouragement, picking up a few books to borrow for bedtimes. She believed in instilling the habit of reading early on and someone read to Sarah every day, more than once if possible. It helped that her father worked at a library so that they did not have to offer the same things over and over.
They picked their way around, picking up just a few eggs before Sarah started to yawn for her nap. Dogby was not too far from that, wanting to cuddle with Gizmo for their afternoon nap. All this excitement was tuckering them both out. No one could put their baby to sleep like being in her dad’s arms so Kyn brought her over and handed her to her father. Within minutes Sarah was sound asleep, happy as you please. She smiled and watched other people milling about and happy.
It was a good day.
