The sun had barely broken over the horizon when a letter had come by courier for Eziya. It was from Jauhar... and from her parents more specifically. Her mother has asked for her to come home, and that she misses Eziya, though there seems to be strategically no mention of her father in the entire letter. Was it a sign that he was still not acknowledging her?

It would take several days journey to get back home, but as it turned out before Eziya could dwell on it longer it seemed like the group she was with, Nayvin's group, would be getting ready to leave and settle in a new town. Not only did this mean Eziya had to decide if she wanted to go visit her family, she had to make up her mind if she wanted to remain in the troupe as well.

Quest Tasks
||. This quest is meant to determine Eziya's loyalties.
||. The quest should start with her receiving the letter and within the same morning learning of the news of the group's move.
||. Eziya must decide whether to return home to where her father doesn't seem to have gotten any nicer or openminded, or to travel with the group she has been staying with and with Nayvin.
||. The quest outcome will not be effected either way.
||. Eziya should explore her feelings about both options and her feelings about her parents.

The Letter

Word Count: 1,017

The letter weighed heavily in the young Shifter's hands as she reread it for what seemed like the millionth time since she had received it. It was worn at the edges and smudged from where she had been gripping it tightly. How had the courier even found her? She had made sure to leave when no one was able to find her, but still her mother had been able to get the letter to her. It was in her mother's flowing handwriting, but of course it was. Her father would never write to her, let alone acknowledge her existence since she had left. He had made it very clear that if she left then she was pretty much disowned from their family. Not that she minded losing any and all connection to him. He was a nightmare to live with, and even now she hated the fact that he had some hold over her. She wanted to escape to get away from them, but if her mother was in some sort of trouble....the courier hadn't exactly specified where and when they received the letter to give to her. Just that it was sent by her mother. Of course she missed her mother just as her mother missed her. Perhaps she could go back and visit, if only for a day or two. She could sneak back during the night and visit her without the watching eyes of anyone else in the village. It would be hard to accomplish it as long as her father had a tight grasp on her mother though. He wouldn't let her see her if he knew, and her mother, though a kind woman, was not able to do anything against her father's will. The joys of a terribly arranged marriage. All she wanted was to take her mother away from that terrible home. Sighing, she tugged on her braid as she thought things over. There had to be some way to go and see her mother without getting into some sort of trouble.

"You have been staring at that scrap of paper for a while young one. Is there some important spell you are trying to learn from it," Nayvin chuckled, resting his hands on her shoulders as she looked up at him. The older Leaf man had been there since she left Jauhar and always knew just what to say to cheer her up. He just had this calm demeanor about him that seemed to soothe her usually frayed nerves whenever she needed it the most. She always assumed it was because he was a very powerful magic user, but perhaps it was just the man himself that was able to do it. Not everything had to be done by magic of course. He just happened to be very good at it.

"It's just....I got a letter....from my mother," she forced herself to say, hating bringing others into her personal business. It was her burden to deal with her own problems, and asking for help was never something she enjoyed. She was supposed to be the one helping others - not the other way around. Nayvin smiled and patted her head gently, and she could tell by the look in his eyes that something was troubling him. Of course more things were bound to happen at once. Just her luck after all. "She wants me to come home and see her."

"Young one, the group will be moving. We have been in Tale for quite some time, and with everything that has happened with the war we feel like we are most needed closer to Oban. If you go to your mother....we cannot wait for you. You will have to do it yourself. Without us."

Well that was news she hadn't expected to hear. They had been traveling through Tale for months now, and while she had been ready to go out and see other places, she had gotten used to being in the territory of the Leaflings. It was still close to home, so traveling to her mother would have been easy - well until now that was. So now she had to choose? Go to her mother and see if everything was right with her, or continue to travel on in hopes of helping those further in and continuing her training? She could just scream this was so frustrating! It was between family and her hopes of the future. She was sure her mother was miserable in the situation with her father, but with how much power he had over her there wasn't much she could do to help her. Then there was also her traveling group. They were just like family to her and had taught her so much, but was it right to stay with them when her mother needed her as well?

"I....I need to just....I need time," Eziya exclaimed, running from Nayvin as quickly as she could.

Was it a smart idea? Probably not. Running away from things was never a good idea, but she needed to get away from anything that could potentially influence her decision and just think on it. There were several thoughts buzzing around her head and she just wanted it all to stop. For once she just needed a clear answer. Her stubborn nature wanted her to continue on her merry way and never look back like she was wanting to do from the start, but the healing nature in her was fighting for a chance to go back and help her mother like she had always wanted to do. Now that she was grown she could finally do something about the awful things her father put them through, but her mother had been just as guilty in some ways. She had sided with her father about her choice of leaving, even when she secretly agreed with her. It was a slippery slope on who to pick, but in the end she knew she couldn't just leave her mother on her own. She had to think of some way to help her.

Even if it meant leaving her new family.

Decisions, Decisions

Word Count: 918

She didn’t have much to pack up. Really her satchel and her bed roll were all she carried around. Her satchel was filled to the brim with books, but she could manage. She'd been collecting and carrying things in it since she started her adventure, but now she would be taking it all back. Would her father even let her keep the wonders she had collected? None of them were from her home in Jauhar, and knowing him he would probably want to throw them all out. How was she to keep up her studies with no books? Shaking her head, Eziya glanced over at the group she had come to have as her new family. A silly group of misfits just trying to learn all they can while seeing the world. They had picked her up and been willing to teach her without asking any questions about why she had run off, something she was thankful for at the time. Nayvin had even taken her under his wing and taught her everything about healing she knew. Now she was leaving them and going back to a home she didn't like being in. Why was she doing this? For her mother of course.

"You know, if you happen to change your mind, we won't be leaving for a few hours," Nayvin said, gently patting her on the shoulder. "It is your choice of course, but I figured I'd let you know. Just in case," he continued, making sure she looked at him as he spoke.

This whole decision was a lot harder than she thought it would be. She was sure she would be happy going to help her mother and seeing her again since she was her family, seeing her father was not so exciting, but she did love her mother. She also loved the group and Nayvin though. They were her new family and had helped her to grow her abilities, but also herself. If only there was some way she could do both, but there was no changing it. She wouldn't hold them back when they had bigger things they needed to worry about other than herself. She had to go and would just have to deal with whatever consequences that came along with that.

"I guess this is goodbye then," she muttered, hugging the older man tightly for a few moments before releasing him completely. She would really miss his teasing and frustrating lessons. It would be an odd change going back and not traveling around. Hopefully she could visit and come back to join them one day; if her father ever let her out of their home again. Hoisting her bag up higher on her shoulder, she spun around and ran off hoping she would get to see them again one day.

***

Eziya had barely made it outside of Yera when she stopped to take a break. Her mind was still scattered and she was struggling to decide if she had really made the right decision or not. Of course her mother meant a whole lot to her. She was her mother. The one who had birthed her and raised her. But under their house she would never be able to do what she wanted with her life. Her father would expect her to stay there and marry a Shifter boy he chose, something she detested more than anything else. Not that she minded other Shifter boys, but if she wanted to marry it would be of her own choosing - no one elses. Under her father's house she would be miserable even if she managed to sneak out after visiting her mother and find her own place or move on. The healers would be long gone by the time she made it all the way to Jauhar and back, and then she would have to adventure on her own in unknown places with little knowledge of anything. She could hang around Tale for a bit more time, but eventually she would have to move on. She had no home of her own and barely any money whatsoever. All of the healing and assisting she did was pretty much for free. She would never charge someone for her assistance.

Running her hands through her hair, she felt the feather she'd recently received brush up against her fingers. Since she had been out she had experienced so many new things and met some amazing people. If she went back now all of that would be wasted. She'd never get to see her friends again, especially since they weren't Shifter like she was. Her father would never allow it. Plus she had made a promise to more than one person that she would see them again. She couldn't just break that! She never broke promises. She had to do something for herself for once, even if that meant letting someone else down. She was training to be a healer, but that also meant coming to accept the fact that she couldn't help and please everyone she came into contact with. Sometimes people had to be let down. She loved her mother dearly, but to go back would be to accept failure and deal with the wrath of her father. A nightmare in and of itself for sure. Her mother was an adult and if she really wanted to there was nothing that could stop her from leaving to visit her.

Finally, Eziya knew what she had to do. She ran back to the group.

Dear Mother

Word Count: 314

Dear Mother,

I'm sorry to be a disappointment to you, but I can't come to see you. Coming back would mean leaving my new friends and life behind as well as dealing with the man who calls himself my father. I've helped so many people and done so many things since being out of the house and I simply do not wish to stop that now. I promise that one day when I get even better at helping others I will come and get you out of that home and deal with father, but for now I go my own way and continue my travels. I love you and always will.

Your Daughter,

Eziya

Putting the quill down she nodded at the short letter, hoping it would be enough for her mother to accept. It wasn't the best explanation of things ever, but it would have to do for now. She just really hoped that her father didn't get the letter before her mother did. It pained her to not go and visit her mother, but in the end it would have hurt more to leave her friends and new life behind her. She quickly sealed the letter and handed it off to the courier then, knowing that if she thought about it any longer she would attempt to change or mess with the letter even more than she already had.

"Are you ready to go, young one? It's a long way to Oba and we still have a long distance to travel," Nayvin questioned, the same gentle hand resting on her shoulder as she turned towards him.

"You know, for once I think I am ready. It'll be great to go and help more as well as seeing Oba. I've read it's an interesting place," Eziya smiled, nodding the courier off as she set off to begin her travel with her new family.
