"You can't just stick around here your whole life. You think you're gonna keep learning from an old, washed-up man like me? I'm not gonna watch you plateau just because you're too scared to take a chance."
Master Ransock's words are still swirling through Jessamine's head almost a month later. She'd only just graduated from Klefstad Academy a few days before she'd come to Master Ransock's bakery and set up for another long day of work, but he'd been right behind her, a wizened and comforting hand on her back. He'd led her to his office, where he had a sack of money - "Everything you should've been paid from the beginning of your apprenticeship. To hell with the guidelines." - and a map spread across his desk. They'd sat there for hours, Jessa's chalkboard covered in chalk dust and questions that were erased only seconds later, replaced with new ones as she asked the old Dovaa about all of his own travels.
"Serenia won't steer you wrong, Jessa. Folk there aren't as manipulative as those damn Oblivionites. And hell, you never know what sort of recipes you might pick up, huh?"
So here she is. All of her belongings can fit in a bag at this point, and she has it thrown over her shoulder, chalkboard and chalk in hand. She'd drifted toward a smaller valley outside of the booming, intimidating capitol city, and she thinks she might stay there a few days to catch her breath, calm her pounding heart, get used to the different air and climate and the sheer ethereal nature of all of the beings around her. But where? Is there an inn? Anything?
As she's walking through the Valley of Andrah, trying to take in all the small farm houses and the people there - is she being stared at or is it just her? - she finally comes to a stop outside of one of the houses. Well. Better to take a chance, right? She's not a young apprentice anymore. She's a full eighteen years old, and she can figure out her own way. So she scribbles a question down on the chalkboard in advance, so as not to make anyone wait if they do answer the door, and then knocks, looking up with expectant red eyes.

A knock on the door? Who would want to visit her parents? They were just simple farmers after all. No one ever visited them unless it was to ask about how their crops were doing. Glancing around, Viylahi made sure her parents weren't anywhere near to see what she was doing. They were worried enough as it was, but if they saw that she had potentially opened the door up to a stranger they would surely panic. Oh if only she could do things without them worrying about her every move. She was just as capable as anyone else, even with her disabilities. They didn't have to baby her about everything, and yet they felt it necessary to protect her to the point of stifling her. All she really wanted was to meet others and explore, but they would never let her. Hopefully whoever had knocked was someone interesting and not just another farmer. She did tend to blow things a bit out of proportion when she went off imagining things. Shrugging, the young girl quickly pulled open the door to see who exactly was behind the door. It wouldn't be the first time she would be disappointed if it was just another farmer, but at least she could hope. dovelybird Sorry this is so late. It's been a hectic last couple of days. @_@

OpticPeach Hey, I'm far later than you. xD It's all good! Life gets hectic sometimes! c: The last thing that Jessa is expecting to see is a young girl with a patch over her eye. It's strange, though - even with the patch and her age she's still strikingly beautiful, just like every other Orderite she's seen up until now. Even her eyes remind her a little of home, of the Kiandri or Gaili and their luminescent eyes. She stares less at the patch and more at her eye before remembering wait, yes, it's time to be polite, she's not just here to admire the beautiful creatures on this continent...
Jessamine remembers to smile right around then and holds up her chalkboard, tilting her head to the side. "Hello, my name is Jessamine and I'm looking for somewhere to stay. Is there an inn around here or someone with an extra bedroom I could use for the night? I have gold to pay and can help with chores if needed."
It's more like an interview than an introduction, but what else is she supposed to say? Hello, I'm a different creature than you from a foreign land where your kind isn't allowed and might even be disliked on sight, how are you today? No, not happening.

Viylahi grinned as soon as she saw the woman on the other side of the door. Was this perhaps a Dovaa?? Her uncle had sent her letters talking about the Dovaa and now she finally got to meet one for herself! Oh she could barely contain her excitement as she glanced around to look for her parents. They were still at the back of their little home, paying no mind to what she was doing. That was probably a good thing. They would likely be very displeased by the girl at their door. Especially since said girl was looking for a place to stay. There was no way Viylahi would let an awesome opportunity such as this pass her by. Nothing ever happened in the valley, and now finally someone of a different race had decided to venture to her home! It was too good to be true. "Shhhh. Don't let my parents hear you. I think I can find a place for you to stay, but we have to be very quiet," Viylahi said quickly, holding her finger up to her lips as she shut the door behind her. Adventure awaited them! Even if it was just sneaking around to find a place for the Dovaa to stay. "I'm Viylahi. My parents don't like anyone but Orderites so we have to be sneaky! I can maybe hide you in my room later tonight and you can share with me, or maybe I can make you a nice place in the barn....it would be up to you of course."

The girl's immediate response to her isn't missed, and Jessa's eyes widen a little at the grin that flashes across her face. When the girl looks over her shoulder Jessa looks with her, takes a hesitant step back when the girl moves forward and begins to shut the door behind her. She's whispering very quickly, and Jessamine locks her eyes on her face, nodding slowly in response.
"My parents don't like anyone but Orderites so we have to be sneaky!"
Right, she'd forgotten for a moment, hadn't she, that not everyone would be as delighted to see her as she was enamored with them...she wonders for a brief moment if she might be in danger if she stays here. This world is full of warriors, and Jessa is the farthest from one. Is she going to block a sword with her chalkboard? She stares at the little girl - Viylahi, she says - for a long moment before writing in the corner of her chalkboard. "Are you sure there's no inn here? I don't want to impose or get you in trouble." Or get herself killed, mostly that. She has far too much left undone thus far. Honestly, she would've expected to feel this fear in Soudul, but...here?
Regardless of where she stays, she'll be sleeping with one eye open, she thinks.

"It'll be fine! I promise!" Viylahi grinned, grabbing hold of the girl and dragging her along. "We'll find you a nice place to stay, okay Jess?" She continued on, tugging onto her arm. She was thrilled to have someone other than an Orderite around. She could learn so many things from the girl she was now dragging around behind her. Though with her eye patch it was a bit hard to see all of her surroundings, she would try her best to lead her in the right direction. Her parents had a small barn beside her home that Jessamine could hide out in, though it had been out of use for quite some time now. Hopefully it would still have some bedding in it. "So! What brings you to these parts, miss Jess?"
