Bhrrr.

Raemos wrapped his clad wings around himself, shivering in the blustery Aisko cold.

Night watch. It was well enough. Having someone guard the camp in the dark was certainly necessary, and Raemos – with his perfect night vision from his cursed Oblivionite nature – was an obvious choice.

It was also boring. He spent much of his watch staring into the vast, flat, empty nothingness, or gazing up at the star-studded sky. He uttered prayers to Seren to entertain himself at times, hoping that his piety would help her in her endless quest to defeat the night, just as Soudana fought the day.

They were almost ready to set off for the site of the promised adventure, just a little more and they would be ready... just a few more endless nights and they would be off. Raemos found himself becoming a little impatient.

There had been no time to rest up or set up tent for that night, Xenosa found herself drawn to a light in the distance and her cold body had driven her towards it. However when she’d gotten there she spotted the same Oblivionite as before. Her luck was horrible; she figured she would have little luck finding any other face around here. Perhaps he would share his fire? “Mind if I sit and arm myself?” She called so he knew that she was coming and that it was her, again. She curled her fingers and breathed a warm breath into her gloves.

Raemos tensed at the approaching figure, standing warily to intercept them until he recognized her as the Orderite from before. Still wary, he shuffled his wings, their membranes making a raspy sound in the silence. Maeron still slept, like a log, and Raemos did not feel the need to wake him for this. He nodded and gestured to the fire. “Of course.” he said politely, observing her as she approached. He was not one to turn away a wayward traveller, after all. “It needs some additional fueling.” he observed, putting a little bit of their precious fuel onto the fire, “But it should steal the chill from your hands. You may stay as long as you are unobtrusive – my partner is resting, and I don't wish to wake him unecessarily.”

So he was not alone, Xenosa would have preferred another companion then an Oblivionite. She did take a seat and wrapped her wings around her; she draped her cape over them to seal the heat from within. Like this she would not freeze and would suck in the warmth from the fire. Her eyes scanned the darkness, a movement catching her attention. “We’re being stalked.” She said quietly, eyeing the moving shadow of a dragon. Silly things, didn’t they know the moon illuminated them quite well. Mountains of snow did not move, Aiskala were so easy to spot silly things.

Raemos tracked the movement of the dragon, drawing his magicked sword and rolling his shoulders. “Indeed.” he murmured, wary. Dragons were absurd, but they were no laughing matter: many a hunter had died from underestimating a dragon. Raemos, in fact, had known a few of them. Many a dragon, too, had died underestimating a magescian. It was a balance of absurdity that Raemos appreciated.

The Aiskala's icey crown glittered in the auroric moonlight, and Raemos prepared his spell. The dragon, apparently, did not realize that it was noticed, which gave Raemos the time to prepare a more complicated spell.

The dragon's pale shadow writhed and twisted as Raemos murmured, losing its defined shape as it investigated and inspected. “Will you be assisting me this time, or shall I take care of it?” he whispered to Xenosa, pausing his spell, the shadow magic trembling eagerly beneath the dragon...

“I guess I can help a little.” Xenosa said as she twirled a dagger between her fingers. As she stood up she regretted her choice missing the warmth as soon as she’s stood. She released her wings and in one large flap of her wings was off the ground and into the night sky flying higher and higher. She would wait for Raemos to do his move before his flew down. Hopefully he wouldn’t take too long, it was extremely cold up here and she had little plans on staying there for very long. Maybe she should have stayed by the warmth of the fire…

He released his hold on his spell, letting the shadows reach – tentacle like – for the dragon to drag it to the rimed ground. Startled, the dragon dodged out of the way, its own shadow slow to follow it away from the draw of Raemo's magic.

In that short distraction, Raemos charged, his magic sword blazing with a quietly blinding light as he murmured spells. The dragon jumped again as spikes of shadow-stained ice-encrusted earth nearly impaled it, hissing as Raemos advanced.

He struck again and again, harassing it away from the camp with small spells as he drew closer to it. Finally, with a flap of his wings, he rushed in to slash at the dragon, cutting it down along its foreleg. It slashed at him, his quick dodge and thick winter wear gaining him only a slight scratch where it could otherwise have been a far worse gash. He stopped the sword's movement and reversed it, cutting again – just fur this time – as he prepared a spell to flank the beast properly...

Xenosa flew down from where she was, like an arrow ready to pierce the armor. As she neared the dragon she veered up and let her draggers drag across the dragons back before she moved away from the snapping jaw which had almost gotten a hold of one of her wings. She rounded the dragon and moved back a few paces; the Oblivionite was going to have this kill once again. She would let him, Xenosa wasn’t really up for another fight at this point. She wanted to get warm and then be off again. No time for rest when she was this antsy.

His chant ceased. His spell cast.

The dragon's own shadow turned against it again, forcing it down midway through its next strike at Xenosa and leaving a suitable opening for Raemos to deal a deadly combination of sword strikes to it's side. His sword pierced its lung, and it could not even roar before, with a purposeful slash, he cut through its heart. It fell, dead, lingering a little in the bloodstained snow before dissolving into snow and ash.

“Well.” he said, after a moments reflection, shaking the blood off his sword and wiping it down with a well-used cloth, “That certainly relieved the boredom of watch.” He gestured to the fire. “Shall we return to the warmth?” he offered politely.

Satisfied with the kill, Xenosa nodded. “I won’t stay very long. Just enough to warm the bones.” She certainly did not want him to get any ideas that she’d stay all night with him since they’d fought two dragons together now. The Orderite moved and sat by the fire, closing her cape around her but just leaving an opening big enough for the warmth to come in. Perhaps she’d be an hour or two, her cape would keep he warm for the rest of the night. Or she could build a shelter and actually get some good night’s sleep for once.

END YAY

“Very well.” Raemos said, returning to his guard. Whether she stayed or not was not really a concern of his. He just wanted to get through this night, and the next, and the next. That was all...
