Who: Anya, Eth, Henry, and Zeke When: April 4th, 2015; around noon Where: Henry's House; Gambino Weather: Partly cloudy and hovering around 50F
"Ready to go?"
Anastacia stretched her wings the moment she got out of the car. "More than ready."
"Alright, then! Let's not keep them waiting!"
The pair took to the stretch of path leading up to a modest-looking Gambino household. Zeke, a small black doctor's bag in hand, moved with his usual bouncy steps and reached the porch first. Anya kept time with her Guardian, although a part of her wanted to linger a little longer in the front yard and enjoy the warmer temperatures and sunshine after this long, terrible winter. She had been inside of one house long enough, thank you very much, but at least this one had a surefire promise of pleasant and 'actually-not-my-Guardian' type company. All the same, she hung back just a little as Zeke reached for the doorbell, warming her splayed crown and wings in the afternoon sun.
The vet had been at the Lab when Henry had called about Ethiriel and had been keen to see the girl as soon as possible after given the facts about what was going on and what was required of him.
"Give me an hour," he had said, "and I'll be there!"
It would have been sooner - Henry did live in Gambino after all - but Zeke had wanted to bring Anya along. The Widow had been cooped up inside for far too long and her cabin fever this year had been the worst by far. Not only that, but it had been too long since the two Raevans had seen each other. They had gotten along well at their first introduction and a meet up since then was well overdue.
When he explained where he was going and who he was seeing, Anya had been quick to agree. Cabin fever aside, she remembered the quiet Silver Frei with the pretty name even after all this time. Ethiriel had left a favorable impression and like Zeke Anya was also of the mind that it had been far too long since she had seen the other. Years, it had been. Literal years! Turning her attention to the door as the bell resounded inside, Anastacia had to wonder. How was Ethiriel? What had she been up to these past three years? And did the Silver Frei remember her as she remembered Eth?

It really had been a long while.
Henry might not have ever met the raver and his spidery companion, but Ethiriel had nothing but good things to say about either of them. This was enough to put him in the best of moods while making the call to Zeke, and his invitation had been immediately extended to Anya as well. He was beyond excited to make new friends within the lab, for sure.
”They’ll be here any minute!” Henry chimed, adjusting the hem on Ethiriel’s v-neck shirt, the sleeves rolled up past her elbows to accommodate the heat. While he wasn’t used to doing hair or dolling anyone up, Henry had at least brushed Ethiriel’s recently wild mane into lovely, sleek locks.
Gabe was out of the house, mostly of his own accord, but the nurse figured it was for the best.
The doorbell chimed and immediately Henry jumped out of excitement, giving Ethiriel a gentle rub on the shoulders before giving a gentle pat and letting go. His fingers wrapped eagerly around the door’s handle and opened, his arms immediately opening wide with the invitation of a hug, though he wouldn’t have been surprised if the unfamiliar vet preferred not to. ”It’s nice to meet you, Zeke! And this lovely creature must be Anastacia! What a pleasure to meet both of you!” he boasted, instantly admiring Zeke’s multicolored hair.
”Ezekiel, Anastacia… how lovely it is to meet you again.” the quiet Frei offered, giving a slight bow of her head.
”Come in! Come in!” Henry exclaimed, moving out of the door’s way so that they could enter, shutting it quietly behind them. ”If there’s anything you’d like just ask! I’ve got plenty of stuff in the fridge – no alcohol, though.”,

The door opened almost immediately and there stood a man with hair as green as Zeke's had been. This made the vet to light up immediately, grin spreading from pierced ear to equally pierced ear. A hand shot out in which to shake - hug only prevented by the social graces of 'this is a new person don't jump on them' - as Zeke stepped up to the plate.
"Hey! Nice to finally meet you, Henry! I hope we haven't kept you waiting - there was some traffic on the way over." Beaming, Zeke turned his attention to Anya, who floated up the stairs slowly in order to give the two exuberant personalities room. "And yes, this is my Anya!"
Zeke gestured toward her. The Frei bobbed her head, the legs there on pumping with the motion. Smiling still was not her forte, but the Frei was mild in tone when she spoke, if not a little hesitant: "It's nice to meet you."
She had been filled in on Ethiriel's change of Guardian on the way over, so the man who was not Leo did not entirely come as a surprise to her. What did was the fact he seemed in some part like her own Guardian - colorful, bright-eyed, and bushy tailed - a contrast to what she remembered of Ethiriel so long ago.
The Silver Frei now on the forefront of her thoughts, Anya wanted to peer past Henry to see if she was there. Zeke had spoken of an eye exam - "Nothing serious, just a little check up" - as their reason for coming by so that had left the Widow curious. But as though summoned by those thoughts, the Tea Raevan made her appearance. Zeke winced when Ethiriel spoke his full name, but Anya inclined her head out of habit.
"Ethiriel," as it had before, the name floated off the tongue and ended with a flourish. Anya took in the other Frei's appearance, noting amongst other things how their hairstyles had swapped since their first meeting. Eth wore her hair down about her shoulders today; Anya had tied hers back in a bun. The other Frei was also dressed not in her birth finery but that was no issue - she made it work, just as Anya did in the outfit hidden away beneath her coat. Another note Anastacia made was the tan Ethiriel's skin had taken on, which only added to her visage rather than detract from it, especially when accented by silver, as Ethiriel naturally was. Finally Anya noticed the other Frei's eyes which were the same as she remembered them to be.
"Hello Ethiriel! Long time no see!" Zeke interjected at the worst time as always, cutting forward to place a hand on the Tea Frei's shoulder. He at least seemed to realize the error of his word choice by the way his smile suddenly died and a look of 'oh s**t' passed over his face before the overly vibrant grin returned. "Er ah...I mean...How have you been?!"
Anya could only shake her head as they were both welcomed and allowed to come inside.
Zeke...
"Thanks, man." As soon as they were inside Zeke was over his faux pas to the naked eye. "And thanks for the offer! Although I gotta say, kinda surprised it's not gonna be Oktoberfest up in here..." He was clearly joking, slinging the bag up onto his shoulder to space his hands far enough apart to mimic the size of a German beer stein. "But I'm good for now. Oh and hey...I'm sorry we didn't get to meet each other sooner, it's been wild and what is free time, you know?"
"He speaks before he thinks more often than you'd realize." Letting Zeke pass before her to make his acquaintances, Anya looked at Ethiriel with only the barest of frowns marring her features. Shaking her head once more at her wayward man, the spider queen closed her large wings and bit the bullet. No sense in being shy now. "It's been a long time."

With a hearty laugh, Henry dismissed the joke as he quickly stepped in front of their guests to guide them into the next room. ”It’s completely fine! I’ve been pretty busy, myself, so I completely understand!” he said, reaching an arm to offer the set of couches and single chairs set in a square in the large living room. ”We can always make a special trip if you’re feeling festive,” he joked.
”There is no harm done,” the silver Frei replied. She had gotten a bit spoiled from Cruz’s birthday, as well as her own; now that no one was wearing silver, she couldn’t spot where exactly the two of them were and had to play by ear. It was nice, however, to have agreeable company, especially when it had been so long.
”It is quite alright; Henry is much the same way,” Ethiriel teased, offering a quick glance to Henry’s silver necklace. The man smiled, happy to see a curve on the elegant lady’s lips. ”It has, indeed, been such a long time. I hope you have found yourself well – especially now that the weather is improving.”
Henry, now turned toward Zeke, sat himself down into one of the single chairs across from the doorway. ”I’m really glad the two of you were able to come! I’ve heard a few… well, less than ideal stories and information about Leonard’s slack over the last year. It upsets me that Ethiriel was put in waiting for so long.”

Zeke laughed.
"Better back out now - you say stuff like that and I'll hold you to them!" He was quite liking this Henry fellow. Taking a seat on the couch across from Henry, Zeke set his bag down on the coffee table. It was a little outdated thing to be sure, but it held what he needed and did the job well. "But hey, if you ARE up for a round of drinks sometime, let me know!"
Despite being back inside after such a brief stint, Anya felt more relaxed than she had been in awhile. She followed alongside Eth to the living room where the two men had gone, hovering as the humans picked their spots.
"I'll be happier once it's June and there's absolutely no chance of snow." As she spoke Anastacia shrugged her coat from her shoulders, revealing a simple button-up blouse in a powdery blue shade. Not really her go-to for tops, but even with the warmer temperatures slowly returning, she was not yet ready to forgo sleeves. "But I've been...I have been well, despite the weather."
It was not entirely the truth. Cabin fever had hit Anya hard this winter, but it was unavoidable what with snow for days, temperatures dropping below zero, and wind that made even Brad and Zeke complain of cold bones just taking the dogs out to the corner. Both men had taken Anya out to feed and just escape the condo plenty of times but little outings could only shake the pressing, confined feeling temporarily. Only when it was warm enough for her to leave home as she pleased with no risk of cold would she be free of such madness. Of course, winter was only one small part of how she had been over the last few years. Bad things had happened, good things too, and Anya had undergone something of a transformation in herself - although it did not result in a physical growth like Cesc...yet. Anya couldn't help but wonder if it had been too long for Ethiriel to notice a difference in her.
"And you?" She waited for Eth to pick a seat, having it in mind to 'sit' next to the other Frei.
"No, thank you for inviting us over! It's nice to get out of the Lab once in awhile and I'm always happy to help out when needed." Zeke had been watching the two Freis and was warmed to his toes at how they were going on. Anya he focused on in particular, watching how she acted around the younger Raevan. She had needed this, definitely. "I can't confirm or deny anything myself; I've read Ethiriel's file so all I know is what's contained in there." He talked with his hands, moving and gesticulating with his words. "I'm more interested in how she's doing now. Reason for check up aside, of course. That I do know!
Although he couldn't help but not want to disturb the two Frei. They needed time to catch up, reacquaint, and potentially - hopefully - forge a lasting bond after all.

”Unfortunately, I actually don’t drink!” Henry informed, his tone light and expression still as amused as ever. ”I don’t mind being a designated driver, however.”
Ethiriel chose the long couch above the coffee table, her eyes momentarily locked with the silver on the table. Once she was comfortable, seated closest to Henry, she finally looked back toward Anya’s direction with a gentle smile. ”I understand completely. I have been unable to leave the house without the protection of many layers – it’s quite exhausting to add and subtract clothing constantly.”
Clothes were something Ethiriel was most comfortable in; the more skin covered, the better, but Henry was slowly peeling her out of her shell. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts were, indeed, helpful during the warmer days, and from what she understood she looked quite nice with a tan. Sometimes she wished that she could see the silly dresses and hairstyles that Clem would give her during her visits, wanting to know if she looked good or – even – if she were actually pretty. She could only go by what others told her. Would she ever know?
”I am glad that you have been well, otherwise. I… Things are improving every day. I could not ask for more.”
With her heightened hearing, Ethiriel could briefly hear Nedhudir claw once at their bedroom door. The Frei winced; she would have to take him for a walk immediately after this meeting and mentally apologized to the poor collie.
Henry, all ears, listened carefully to Zeke’s explanation and interest in the young Frei. He wasn’t at all surprised that he knew only what was in the file – Leo hadn’t done much to take care of Ethiriel when they were paired – the thought actually bugged him a bit.
”As far as she lets me know, she’s been well! Her appetite’s starting to even out and she’s been going outside as much as possible – pretty soon we’ll be building a sun room for her so that she doesn’t have to be out when the weather’s harsh; the heat and cold can be cruel to her, sadly.”

Anastacia followed Ethiriel, taking a seat next to the other Frei, but with enough space between them for comfort and respect of personal space. Although she was feeling keen to reconnect with the Silver Raevan, she wasn't about to accidentally get smacked by one of the other girl's sturdy-looking wings.
"It can be. I don't mind so much, but then again I'm used to changing more often than most." With her inner strength and self esteem returned to her, Anya had once again become distinctly picky about her ensembles - a stubborn holdover from her past self. Even the simple blouse she wore and the jewelry she had chosen to accompany it had been the end result of fifteen minutes of picking, choosing, and shuffling. It would have been longer, had Zeke not come knocking and reminding her of their time constraint.
Anya's head tilted slightly as the Tea Frei spoke of things improving daily. Briefly her eyes passed over Zeke and Henry, focusing on the latter man. Her Guardian had said the man before Henry had been unable to care for Ethiriel and so she had been turned over to a new Guardian. Zeke hadn't given a time frame for this, so for all Anya knew - and was quickly believing, given the other Frei's word choice - was that this was a fairly recent affair. She wasn't sure how to feel about that particular process, but if Ethiriel was better with Henry then perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing. All the same, she nodded to the dark-haired Raevan's words even though the other could not see it. If there was anything in the world she could understand, it was that things had been improving steadily since a certain point in time.
"That's good to hear," her lavender gaze left the two men and returned to Ethiriel although her two of her spidery eyes were used to monitor the humans. "Your new man seems...capable."
"Oh!" Zeke's eyes widened a touch, but he was on the ball with a laugh. "Well then, that gives me a damn good excuse to try out that new no-alcohol bar out in Durem!" And potentially a similarly good reason to find and experiment with non-alcoholic cocktail recipes, but that was neither here nor there for the moment. Zeke relaxed as Henry spoke of Ethiriel, lighting up at the mention of a sun room being built to keep the Frei comfortable in all seasons.
"That's great! That's really great to hear!" Beaming, he nodded toward the two Frei, his voice lowering just a tad and leaning in to make up for the loss of volume. "Actually Anya's been rather cooped up during the winter months as well. Perhaps when we're definitely clear of the cold we can set something up for the two of them. A day out to the beach or the park or something." He purposely omitted the fact that he had suggested something along the same lines to Leo when Ethiriel had been born as well as the fact that the idea had not come to fruition. Seeing the two Raevans now, the sore spot that had been there for awhile had greatly diminished and instead there was a blooming of pride and joy - they were getting along so well, it was as if three years hadn't separated their meetings! "I think they'd both agree to that."
Leaning back, Zeke returned to the reason why he had been called. Plans for outings could definitely be made later, and while the prospect was exciting to say the least, Ethiriel's health had to come first. He gestured to the bag and raised a ring-pierced brow as though asking 'Shall we?'.
"Ethiriel!" The vet clapped his hands together and turned fully to the Silver Raevan, tone as sunny as could be. "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting you two, but I was wondering if I could ask you some things?"

Perhaps it was Ethiriel’s lack of vision that made changing a battle, despite her constant help from Henry with each change of outfits, or maybe it was frustration that she could not see the final result that salted over the affair. Would it have been more of a fun venture to do so if she could actually judge her appearance in the end, rather than relying on the opinions of others? What even was beauty?
Ethiriel did not touch up any further on the matter, having lost herself in the moment, but once Anya chimed in once more her gaze left the table. Yes, Henry was… definitely capable; much more so than her last guardian, at the very least. ”Indeed,” she said, closing her eyes before attempting to meet the spider queen’s own. She was pale, but she was still lost in the black abyss that was the tea raevan’s sight.
”That sounds great!” Henry cheered, pumping his fist into the air once. He scooched himself to the edge of his own seat, elbows now resting on his knees while holding himself up. ”That sounds a lot like Ethiriel! I’m so glad that it’s getting warmer out and we can actually do things outside now!” The nurse then listened closely as Zeke continued, his smile growing wider with each syllable. ”That sounds like a wonderful idea! Ethiriel seems pretty happy!” he exclaimed, his gaze following the vet’s. Ethiriel had the smallest of smiles, and it seemed genuine. That was already a step up, and the man would give anything for her to have more friends and be able to go out more. Perhaps Anya would be a perfect candidate for it; she was calm and refined, much like the silver Frei – there was definitely room to grow a bond there.
However, as her name was spoken, Ethiriel’s attention immediately left Anya as she searched out for the multicolor haired man.
”Not at all,” Ethiriel said. ”What is it that I can help you with?”

Anya started to say more - ask Ethiriel how she had been in the years since her birth, perhaps, or make a comment on her tan and the sleekness of her hair - but Zeke interjected. The Black Widow's words died there for now, turning her gaze onto her Guardian with a frown in the form of a small pout. She did remember the reason why they had come to Ethiriel and Henry's home, but couldn't he have waited a little longer?
Henry's excitability matched Zeke's own, which made the blue and pink-haired man's face hurt with how hard he was smiling because of it. The vet found himself liking this fellow more and more, especially when he agreed to the day trip idea. "Anya too! We'll see how they like the sound of that after I check Ethiriel's eyes, okay?" He was positively giddy with just the thought.
Catching Anya's pout, Zeke had to chuckle. If that wasn't a bold statement to good things happening, he didn't know what else could be. The veterinarian winked at his Frei. "It won't take long, I promise." He shifted in his seat, pulling forward to nab the bag and open it, not yet digging into the contents. "You know why Anya and I are here, I'm sure. Before I check your eyes, I'd like to ask you a couple of questions, because you're the best judge of how you're feeling."
Now he started to rifle through the bag, pulling out a small spiral bound notepad, a pen, a small flashlight, a strange-looking white stick with a flat circular piece on one end, and - oddly enough - a bulb syringe. Each item was laid out in turn but Zeke first picked up the notepad and pen, flipping the former open where upon he had written some questions.
"After this Q and A, I'll do the check up and then you and Anya can hang out for awhile. Sound good?" He kept his tone warm, which wasn't hard for the man to do at all. After his end of this was over, he'd want to talk to Henry privately, depending on what the tests showed. "So! First thing is first: have your eyes caused you any pain? It doesn't have to have been recently, either. Any time at all!"

Henry was just as excited as Zeke when it come to the giddiness and excitement over their Raevans. Both of their voices had been low in their own discussion, and without Ethiriel’s heightened hearing, it was difficult to discern what they were talking about – but he didn’t care; he was just happy that the two of them seemed to hit it off. This day date idea sounded better and better by the second, and Anya’s pout made it that much more obvious.
With a sage nod of the head, Ethiriel answered, ”Indeed, I do.”
The nurse turned his attention back to Zeke as well, his smile softening now that the conversation wasn’t exactly involving him. It didn’t flatten out entirely – oh no. He was forever his own little ball of sunshine; perhaps one of the things that made it so much easier for Ethiriel to feel welcomed.
Ethiriel nodded her head, her eyes drifting back to the silver on the table. ”Yes... and I understand. I am ready when you are.
There has been no pain. It has been the exact same since birth.”

Zeke's words about Ethiriel's check up not taking long were good on Anastacia's ears. Even more so was the notion that they would be left to their own devices as soon as it was complete. With that assurance, the Spider Queen relaxed against the couch and took to her part of the backseat much like Henry did. She would watch the proceedings, although her gaze did shift to parts of the room she could see. Normally she surveyed her surroundings first, but the promise of a trip out and good company seemed to have put that part of herself on the back burner.
"Good! That's really good to hear!" He scrawled down her words in short hand script and poised the tip of his pen on the line beneath his second question. "This is kind of a weird question and I hope I don't offend you with it, but it's just something I gotta ask for the sake of things: can you see anything at all?" Even from where he sat it was clear the cataracts that covered her eyes were whole and intact, but stranger things had happened, especially when it came to Raevans. Nothing was outside the realm of possibility.
"It doesn't have to be clear either. Like maybe some parts aren't as...Dark, I guess." He sounded a little sheepish at the end. How could the ones with sight comprehend blindness? What was darkness to the blind? Colors didn't really exist, per say, so what did Ethiriel see in place of what could be seen by himself, Henry, and Anya? Or, if his question was answered in a positive, what couldn't she see?

”Very little, if it is actually sight,” she said, eyes obviously scanning the room for Zeke. ”I have come to the conclusion that my sight is limited to silver. In my life time, the only thing I have ever seen with ‘clarity’ are my wings and crown while in the mirror.” Ethiriel lifted a hand and lightly brushed one of her branches. ”I assume it is silver, given my genetic makeup. I am not sure what it would be called, but some… I guess… colors? Some can be seen, though I could not tell you what they were."
Darkness, she could not comprehend.

Her response made him raise his brows. Now THAT was interesting! Jotting her response down, he made sure to underline the words 'silver' and 'some colors, cannot describe which' in particular.
"That makes a lot of sense, and I think you're right about it." Certainly her wings and crown were silver, that was without a doubt. Now his eyes were drawn to the room and what silver things were found there. Henry, he now noticed, wore a silver necklace. Zeke grinned at the man, giving him a heap of brownie points for that simple thing alone. Accommodating Ethiriel as best he could - very much A+ Guardian material right there.
From there he looked at Anya purposefully. "The next time Anya and I visit, we'll be sure to wear our finest silver so you know where we are." He noted her searching for him previously and he felt bad about being hidden from her limited sight. If only his piercings were silver, rather than titanium!
"Now about the colors...I know you can't describe them to me, but do you have any idea when you can see them? Like is it a certain time of day or a certain place or anything like that?"
He flipped the page on his notebook, writing the question down as he spoke. Maybe there was something to that.

Ethiriel smiled, the curve very gentle on her face. ”That is very well appreciated,” she said, lifting her chin in approval. As if noticing Zeke’s thoughts, the silver frei’s eyes locked onto the silver bangle that hung over Henry’s chest, her eyes softening.
”Unfortunately I cannot help you there. A fellow Raevan named Luka once tried to describe colors to me but… his vision is also altered. At least, that is what I came to understand from Leonard.” she explained, eyes drifting again. Her brows knit upward together as she exhaled. ”I do not know enough about the human anatomy to describe to you what I have seen, but some parts of others are more visible – the closer to silver, the easier to see I expect. I do not know if that helps.”

Anya nodded at Zeke's words on their finest silver, interested piqued at Ethiriel's own on the topic of her blindness.
"I have a jewelry box at home filled with silver things." She confirmed. Dresses and tops too, although those things were the color silver and obviously not made of the metal itself. She did not utter that a fair few of those jewelry pieces were bought after their first meeting, when Anya had been wracked with jealously over the Tea Frei's fine silver appendages and accessories.
"And it's a big box." Zeke grinned as Anya once more made to say something - this time to him - but fell silent with a resigned sigh because he was right. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, and even a brooch or two...if it was considered a jewelry piece, Anya was sure to have at least one. Some were old and had some tarnish to them, but they were still lovely enough for Anya to have coveted them for her own collection. She needed to wear them more, so why not take advantage of an excuse to?
Zeke listened to what she had to say, again making notes under his question.
"We've both met Luka before." He didn't know Luka had any vision troubles however. Something to note for later and perhaps afford a call to the Raevan and his Guardian to discuss.
Well that explains the incident with the door...
"It's a little confusing, I gotta admit. But it does help!" He wanted to make sure she knew that and not put her off or make her feel bad in any way. He considered her words thoroughly. "It's definitely worthwhile to know, and I've made a note of it! Thank you, Ethiriel.
"I do have one more question though." This one was the biggie. "You don't have to answer right away. In fact, you don't have to give me a reply at all, if you don't want to." He looked back to Henry, giving the man a look that was supposed to say 'you and I will talk about this one later' before once again focusing on the Frei. "And that question is this: if there was a way for us to fix your eyes and help you to see, would you be willing to try it?"
