The Marketplace
A large market area with multiple stalls filled with many different kinds of items. The items here are not 'relevant' in the same way the items located in the Item Merchant are. They are mostly for IC reasons, such as buying your character a hat or getting someone a gift.

Killian The streets of the market quivered as a somewhat unlikely figure made his way down the street, eyes fixed on something that rested in the palm of his over-sized hand. The shopkeepers were shooting irate and befuddled looks at the Golurk in between their frantic attempts to keep their wares from tumbling to the ground with each new step he took. The area was clearly not built anticipating any Pokemon of the giant's enormous size and girth, and he filled the length of the street that he walked down, occasionally lowering his hand to look back and forth at the Pokemon below before raising it up again and trying to decipher the tiny print on the tiny sheet of paper he held. This part of the world was too small for a Pokemon like Killian, but he'd been given a task to complete and the location was here so here he would stay until he could figure out how that task was supposed to be completed.
A few hours after he'd been accepted into his new Team, Killian had found the fiery one prodding at his side when the others were playing with the littlest creatures. The fiery one had told him of a task to accomplish-- specifically obtaining something he'd referred to as "groceries" from the marketplace--and Killian had been more than ready to oblige, as it was the first true order he'd been given since he'd arrived. The fiery one had given him a small piece of paper with a number of words written on it; words he could read but did not understand. He'd also been given a tiny pouch that rested in a tiny bag that rested in his hand beside the tiny paper, which contained the "money" that would be needed to "purchase" said "groceries", but none of that meant anything to the giant who had been instructed on little more than words such as "fight" and "protect" over the course of his relatively short life. Still, he couldn't disobey an order from any of his new masters, and he couldn't return without fulfilling the task he'd been given, so he'd set off on his quest without hesitation. He'd managed to find the marketplace without too much difficulty, after a while of wandering until he found a place where Pokemon were exchanging the same type of "money" that he'd been given for various other types of tiny objects. It was all very confusing, and he wasn't really sure how to figure out what things were "groceries" and what weren't even now that he'd found the place where he was supposed to be.
Eventually the giant stopped moving, his legs coming together as he made an abrupt halt. There wasn't anything else he could do right now, since if he went much further the colorful stalls would end and he'd be in the wrong place. The only thing for it was to wait and watch and see what the other Pokemon did, maybe then he could figure out what these "groceries" were. Without further warning, Killian sank to the ground and sat down with one final thud, drawing his knees to his chest as he set to surveying the area with apathetic eyes. If he watched enough he would see what was necessary; perhaps he could even find duplicates of the words that were written on his paper--that could be helpful. Whatever the case, time would tell him what he needed and then he would be able to do as he was instructed. At least, it would tell him what he needed if the Pokemon in the stalls and all around would stop staring at him and resume their business. Hopefully they would do that sooner rather than later: he didn't want to keep the fiery one or the others waiting.

Skullbasher Skullbasher was adjusting quite nicely to the guild so far. The days following the drill in the Jungle had passed by uneventful. He and Murdock were getting along quite well, all things considering and he had managed to avoid answering any additional questions. His letter to Serrin, so far as he could tell, had been convincing enough of an explanation to keep further prying about his past at bay. However, he still had yet to come up with any truly compelling, yet believable stories. It wasn't something that was extremely pressing, but he did want to be prepared for when the time came. Perhaps some fresh air would do him some good and get the creative juices flowing. Excusing himself from the team room, Skullbasher made his way into town. The town was the only place he hadn't really explored since his arrival. As he reached the bustling streets of town, he began to take note of the various specialties of the surrounding shops: pottery, jewelry, furniture, produce, baked goods and many other things that he couldn't identify. The aroma from the bakery as he walked by was heavenly. But, a place wasn't just the sum of buildings or stalls present, however, it was also defined by those who lived or worked there as well. There was a variety of species present, too many too count. Everything was almost too much to take in. He was so distracted in fact, that he almost didn't see the peculiar wall that obstructed the rest of the marketplace. He had to pull up short in order to keep from ramming into it. At first, he thought it was a strange place for a wall, but then he realized that what he had initially believed to be a wall was not a wall at all, but a pokemon whose species was unknown to him. He started at eye level then continued to look up and up and up, till finally he found the end; the being in front of him was quite large, which was saying something since he himself was not small. Though it seemed like time ticked by slow, it all transpired in less than three seconds. The stranger was quite odd. He appeared to just be watching everyone as they went about their business. Briefly, he considered just ignoring the individual and going around him, but the peculiarity of the situation kept him in place. "I know this is none of my business, but I just have to ask...why is it that you are sitting in the middle of the street?" His tone was pleasant and lent itself well to his intended purpose: a simple inquiry. He wasn't asking to be mean, nor did he mean it as a slight, but he was simply curious. For this, his normal tact had been abandoned in favor of being slightly more blunt and straightforward.

Killian One of the small Pokemon was talking to him. Killian was used to the stares, even to overhearing remarks about him, but something directed at him from someone who wasn't his master? That was a foreign concept to the Golurk. The giant turned his head slowly, locking in on the stranger who had approached him, and his eyes dulled for a brief moment before brightening again in what could only be understood as a blink. He wasn't sure what to think of this stranger who had chosen to address him rather than passing by as the others had, nor of his question which was easy to understand but impossible to respond to. In truth, Killian didn't know how to react to this situation because it had never happened before. His masters were the only ones who spoke to him, that was expected and normal; this creature was neither a master nor someone he'd been instructed to deal with, and that type of Pokemon didn't talk to him, it simply wasn't done. The Golurk found himself searching vainly for a way to adjust this situation to the commands he'd been given thus far, but in the end was only left to continue staring--he had come up with nothing and the stranger still hadn't given up yet.
This stranger was rather large for one of the small ones, since he could meet the creature's eyes without having to tilt his head downward in his current sitting position. Killian wasn't one to be impressed or even interested in such things however, he merely noted it as he wondered how to handle the situation. Around this place questions seemed to hold the expectation that one would respond to them, rather than being rhetorical statements of impatience or condescention, but Killian didn't know whether answering the question was acceptable or not, let alone interacting with another Pokemon without it relating to the orders he'd been given. That was when an idea dawned on the Golurk, and his gaze seemed to gain a bit more life as he continued to stare the other Pokemon down: perhaps this was just what he'd needed. If this Other One was willing to engage in conversation with him then perhaps it would be able to help him accomplish his task, thus providing him with rules to govern their interaction. Yes, this could turn out for the better perhaps, provided the stranger was able to understand what he could not.
Exuding a low hum that resonated in his chest, the Golurk raised his hand toward the Other One and revealed what he had been carrying with him, hopeful that perhaps this would convey some sort of meaning to the other Pokemon. In Killian's hand, Skullbasher would find two items: a satchel with a strap that was clearly intended to rest across the back of a much smaller Pokemon than Killian, and a piece of parchment that had been written on by someone with small, elegant penmanship that resembled brushstrokes rather than quill writing. If Skullbasher chose to inspect the bag further, he would find that it was utterly empty except for a small drawstring bag containing a reasonable amount of PD. If he chose to inspect the paper, he would find it had the heading of "Grocery List" and its front and back were filled with foodstuffs, spices, and other ingredients that would go into making a number of different meals; he might also note that the quantities listed for all of these items were much larger than would be expected for a typical Team at the Guild because when you're feeding six people and a Golurk for a week, you need a ton of food, though only if he cared enough to notice such details. Killian simply watched and waited, still sitting, to see what the Other One would do, since this was the only way to answer the question that he could think of.

Skullbasher At first, the large pokemon in front of him gave no indication that it (he couldn't tell if it was male or female) had even heard him. Then when the giant turned its head, it just stared at him. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Was this species similar in speed to Slakoths or Slowpokes? Normally, when someone addressed you it was common courtesy to respond in some way. It was possible that the stranger came from a place where customs were different, but Skullbasher thought it was more plausible that perhaps the giant hadn't heard him clearly; "it" was a very tall being, and with all the ambient noise from the street mixing with his voice, what the stranger heard could have been muffled or unclear. He opened his mouth again, raising his voice a bit, "I said I know it's -" he stopped short as the giant moved again. The giant had opened its hand for examination. "Huh?" He was a bit confused by the action. Tilting his head slightly, he looked from Killian's face to his hand and back again several times. It was obvious to Skullbasher that the stranger wanted him to look at what it had, but it was odd that such trust would be presented to a total stranger. Resting his eyes on the paper, he blinked several times before he slowly reached out to take the paper and read it out loud. "Let's see here...'Grocery List' is what it says." His voice was at its normal level again as he read the heading. The ingredients on the list varied greatly and were in large quantities. Skullbasher wasn't sure what he had expected as an answer to his question. He certainly hadn't expected the large one to be grocery shopping, but since they were in the marketplace it did make sense. However, the fact of the matter was sitting down in the road still wasn't a normal part of grocery shopping. As he thought about how to respond, he idly looked at the other object that he had been presented. "Okay..I'm curious, he said as he put the coin purse back in the bag, having figured out that it contained Pokedollars from the sound it made when he'd picked it up, "did you think the vendors came to you with the items and you paid as they gave you things? Or have you already placed your order and are just waiting for it to be delivered?" His questions were mostly rhetorical. He didn't expect an answer because he hadn't really been given one the first time. "Actually...nevermind. I'm going to assume you didn't place an order because that would have warranted shooing me away, at least I would assume. But how can anyone truly assume what any stranger would do really?" He was beginning to ramble, but since he assumed at this point that he wasn't going to get the stranger to talk, he felt the need to fill the silence in some way. Coming back to the grocery list, he began reading the ingredients off one by one out loud. "Well, this is an awfully tall order, but it shouldn't be too hard to track this stuff down. Come on, come on! Let's move you out of the middle of the street and get you your groceries, you're blocking the road." As he spoke he used his claw to gesture that the Golurk should follow him as he headed to the nearest vendor that carried a few of the vegetables that were on the list.

Killian Killian listened to the Other One's rambling mutely, his eyes set on the other creature's face. He was quite talkative it would seem, so perhaps that was why he'd approached with all his questions. All of the Pokemon around here seemed to be quite talkative the more the giant considered it, including most of his new masters. The trouble was Killian could not speak, even if it was something that was expected of most Pokemon here. The act had been forbidden by his former master, and although Felonious was dead and gone, the ghost of his orders remained with the Golurk and would continue to haunt him until the command was revoked, revised, or otherwise altered by his new masters. Speak to no one. Your voice is mine just as you are, and I prefer my possessions to be silent and obedient. So were the orders he'd received on the day that he and his brother had been created, and so would he follow them to his dying day unless he was commanded otherwise. Thus, however many times the Other One questioned him, he could only try to express his thoughts through gestures and soft sounds things that he still wasn't certain would be permissible in his new masters' eyes. So Skullbasher received another long stare to his questions, though when he paused for a moment Killian's shoulders rose and fell in an obvious shrug--a response to all of the questions truthfully, though it interestingly fell after his companion's question of understanding the motives of a stranger.
Now that the objects he'd been trusted with were in the care of the Other One, Killian continued to wonder if what he'd done was really alright. He'd never been told that getting help was wrong, and it was the only way that he'd be able to accomplish his task, but something about it made him feel uneasy, as though he might be punished for this later. Still, there was no turning back now, especially since the Other One seemed to have gleaned some sort of meaning from the words that were printed on the page; Killian heard and recognized them when they were read out loud, just as when he'd read them himself, but they still had no meaning other than peculiar sounds that must be referencing some of the small items around this place. The Other One spoke to him again once he was done though, this time urgent and commanding, a tone that Killian recognized. He blinked again, staring at the Other One for a long moment as he began to walk away. Was it alright to follow orders from one who wasn't his master? He had serious doubts about that. Did he have any other choice? No. He would have to follow this Other One for now, regardless of the consequences later.
With a deep groan rumbling through his chest, Killian stood once more, casting an enormous shadow over the ground now that he was again at his full height. Paying little mind to the muted shouts of dismay or surprise he heard from the shopkeepers and other Pokemon down below, the giant began to follow after the Other One, his steps once again causing the earth to tremble violently and bringing about general chaos to the unsuspecting Pokemon of the market. He didn't intend such things, but it was unavoidable given his enormous size and weight. That, and he wasn't instructed to care about how others reacted to his presence--it didn't have any impact on his ability to accomplish his task, as far as he knew. So the giant shuffled after his companion, movement restricted by his knowledge that he shouldn't step on any Pokemon or tents as he went, seeing as they might be the ones with the "groceries" he needed. Fortunately, he could clear far more space in a single step than the Other One could, so he was standing beside him again in only a few steps, staring down at his companion once again. He'd said that they were going to get the "groceries", so he was sure to pay close attention to the proceedings, so that he could discover the meanings of the strange commands he'd been given.

Skullbasher Skullbasher slowed down a little when the big pokemon didn't follow him at first. He looked back and was about to gesture with his caws again for the stranger to follow when he slowly got up and walked toward him. It didn't take the stranger long to catch up because of his long strides. He was surprised at how heavy the stranger's steps were. The ground vibrated and shook with each and every step. It was startling, but the giant couldn't help it. Finally, he reached a vendor that had some of the spices that were on the list. He looked to his large companion and then to the vendor. He smiled as he greeted the Marowak, "Pardon me sir. My friend and I need to purchase some spices. I apologize in advance for the large quantities that we need, I hope it won't be a problem." As he finished he looked back up to his companion to confirm that he was still standing there before he looked at the vendor and began pointing out the spices on the list as well as the amount that was needed. The vendor gave him a strange look and directed an even stranger one at Killian, but he didn't argue was he gathered what Skullbasher asked for. Instead, he commented as he weighed and bagged each separate spice, "This is an awfully big order. You sure you got the pokedollars for this?"Skullbasher nodded and took the coin pouch out of the bag as the total was quoted to him. "I'm sure," he said as he counted the amount out aloud in order to keep the amount straight - the background noise of the marketplace was extremely distracting. "There you are. He closed the money pouch and put it back down in the bag along with the spices they had purchased. There was still quite a bit of room in the bag thankfully; there was still a lot of groceries to get. Skullbasher turned to Killian and addressed him, "At the risk of sounding ignorant and presumptuous, I'll go out on a limb and say you're new here. This is alright, of course, but I'm new to this area as well. It might take me a little while to find everything that you need, but we'll get it taken care of. Just remember that this stall is the one that you can get a lot of your spices from," he said as he counted them off one by one on his claws at the end, repeating their names once more as he did so (for Killian's benefit of course, in case the noise of the Marketplace had made it difficult to hear the names before).

Killian When the Other One looked up at him Killian leaned down, bending at the waste to get a closer look at the things being exchanged between his companion and one who sold the small things. He tilted his head at a word he recognized from his new masters--"friend"--so intrigued by it that he barely noticed the rest of the exchange between the Other One and the Skull-Faced One. He'd heard that word for the first time today, in reference to other Pokemon and in reference to himself. He didn't understand the idea behind the word, but the Green-Eyed One had used it often back where his masters were. The others of his masters didn't use that word as much, but the Green-Eyed One seemed to use it to refer to almost all of the other ones. Now this Other One was using that word and indicating him. He was the One Now Called Killian, just as the other ones were called other things, but maybe he was also the One Called Friend? Maybe anyone could be the One Called Friend. Could that be what to call the other ones who he didn't know what to call? Perhaps that was it. Then this Other One--he was a Friend--and the Skull-Faced One was a Friend too. These other ones with no titles were called "friends"; he could understand that. His former master hadn't had a word for the ones with no titles, there were only those who were with Felonious, and those who did not matter, but he had new masters now and had to learn their words any way he could.
When he was addressed again, Killian turned his gaze to the Other One Friend directly, realizing that he was being instructed. The Other One Friend wasn't wrong in his assumption that he was new, and the Golurk nodded once in response to the statement to confirm it. He didn't particularly mind when he was told that the process might take a while, since the Other One Friend indicated that it would be accomplished in the end and that was the important thing. Faster was better, obviously, but it was more important that a task be accomplished than forsaken because of the time it took, unless of course a master indicated otherwise. Fortunately the Fiery One Friend didn't tell him to be back in any certain amount of time, so he could take as long as was necessary. The Other One Friend then began to list off the names of certain things which he had called "spices". Apparently most of these "spices" could always be found here, at this tent where the Skull-Faced One Friend was. He'd seen the exchange of the "money" between the two and vaguely recalled the Other One Friend counting, but he would pay closer attention next time to learn how that worked. For now, he simply committed everything the Other One Friend named to his memory, so he would know what things to request next time. How he would request them was a problem for a different time: right now he simply needed to learn these new command words and items for whenever they might appear again in the future.

Skullbasher After Killian had confirmed his suspicions, he nodded. He began walking through the stalls, pausing briefly occasionally to check and see if certain vendors possessed any of the items that still needed to be purchased. After wandering through the maze of stalls, for several minutes Skullbasher finally found another vendor that had the things he needed in stock. This particular vendor sold a variety of fruits ranging from exotic and unusual to the common and plain. He looked back at Killian and began pointing out the different fruits that were on the list, "See, this vendor," he gestured to the Exeggutor, "this is where you'll be able to get your fruits from. If he doesn't have all of them, he'll probably have most of them."The Exeggutor's most forward facing head, which was already grinning widely, smiled even bigger as it addressed the pair, "You can be sure of that! Anything you need, we got." Then it turned slightly, a face that had been hidden in the back now facing them with a frown spoke next "Unless we're sold out..." it said gloomily before the main body shifted again, back to where the first head faced them once more, "We restock often though! If we're out one day, you can check back the next day to see if we got new stock, we get new stuff in almost everyday! We're never out of something for long!"Skullbasher gave an awkward smile. He wasn't used to so much switching around, but the shop owner couldn't help it - Exeggutor were well known for having three to six independently thinking head, all usually with substantially different personalities. "See, this guy will be sure to take care of you when you need any kind of fruits. Heh.." There was an awkward pause, which he covered up by looking back to the list as he started naming off the fruits to the vendor and telling him the quantities that were required. The shopkeeper used his psychic powers to lift and package each item as it was requested. When all was together, Skullbasher opened up the coin sack to begin the counting ritual once more. After this, there was only a few more items left, most of them vegetables.

Killian The giant followed the Other One Friend through the stalls, staring down at them idly as he followed. There were quite a lot of small things being sold here, some that could be eaten and some that couldn't; he still didn't know what distinguished groceries from non-groceries, but the Other One Friend was completely ignoring a lot of the stalls of both types, so he wasn't getting much help in that respect. Apparently the words written on the list were very helpful to one who understood their meaning--perhaps it would be important to learn the meanings of these words that were only sounds in the future. He wouldn't have considered it to be of any great importance in the past, but if this was a way for orders to be conveyed then it suddenly held that importance in the present. Of course, that assumed that his new masters would give him the opportunity to learn this, which he didn't count on either. This transition was terribly difficult.
They stopped again in front of a new stall after a short time, and Killian once again bent down to survey the proceedings. The Other One Friend said that "fruits" could be found here, and the Many Faced One Friend said something much the same. Of course the Golurk didn't know the difference between fruits and anything else on the list--except for those things that the Other One Friend had specifically told him were spices--but he assumed that he would be told them just as he'd been told the spices before. In fact he wasn't told them directly, but the Many Faced One Friend packaged each of these fruit groceries separately when they were named, so he was able to link them together by association. Killian paid closer attention to the counting of the "money" this time as well, noticing the different colors of the PD that caused the numbers the Other One Friend stated to go up by different amounts. It was fairly basic information to take in and he committed it to his memory quite easily: so long as the groceries didn't change in the future he didn't think he'd have much of an issue. Still he appreciated the Other One Friend's explanations as they came, well aware that he wouldn't be able to accomplish this task without the help of the other Pokemon. An idea began to form in his head of a debt being incurred and ways to repay it, but his expression never changed. He only nodded to show he understood when he was stared at and lowered his hand to relief the Other One Friend of the burden of the heavy groceries. Their weight was nothing to him, and the items purchased had reached the point that they no longer fit in the bag. He collected all the things that required heavy lifting and deposited the pouch of PD back in the Other One Friend's claw without a word, waiting for him to continue onward now that he didn't have to worry about what to do with the many many groceries they were acquiring.

Skullbasher Skullbasher was glad to have the burden of the grocery bags taken from him. Rampardos were strong by nature, except in their arms; his arms, like the rest of his species, were small in comparison to his otherwise large frame. As he looked back at the grocery list, he noted that there were a number of vegetables as well as some grains and nuts. He remembered passing two vendors on the first row of stalls that had sold these things. Nodding silently to his own internal recollection, he began to make his way back to the first row. The giant following him hadn't spoken at all since the start of their journey and this was something that Skullbasher wasn't used to. He didn't consider himself the epitome of a well socialized pokemon, but he did enjoy good conversation. The lack thereof struck him as odd because mutes typically made some indication of their inability to speak, but he didn't. Perhaps his large companion was newly muted and therefore wasn't used to making such indications yet. It would explain the silence and the need to have someone help with grocery shopping. Afterall, the marketplace was a loud bustling area and it would difficult to shop as a mute - especially one so large as Killian because writing notes as a form of communication to the shopkeepers would be almost impossible. Within a few minutes, they had arrived near the first row of stalls and it wasn't long before he had spotted the two stalls he'd been looking for. He waved Killian over as he approached the first of the two stalls. This one kept the more traditional vegetables in stock: celery, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, okra, and much much more. A few of the vegetables being sold weren't common, in fact, they weren't so uncommon that Skullbasher didn't even know what they were called. He was so distracted by them, that when the shop keeper addressed him the first time, he hadn't even heard her. "Hello!...Hello?...Hey!" the Lopunny shopkeeper persisted, taking three times before it registered with him. "Hmm? What?" he said when he finally heard her. "Welcome to my shop! How can I help you today?" she continued as if nothing had happened. "Oh! Right!" he said as he rubbed the side of his neck in embarrassment. Turning to look at Killian, he smiled and gestured to the shop owner with his head. "This lady here sells vegetables," he said before he turned his gaze back to the parchment in his hands and began to look for what he needed. He looked to the stall then to the paper, first pointing at what was needed as he spoke the name, then looking back at the parchment before saying the amount. By the time they were done and Skullbasher had paid, the woman's stall looked well picked over; she still had plenty to sell but the things which they had bought had thinned her stock noticeably. However, the shopkeeper didn't seem to mind, in fact, she was quite happy about it. Skullbasher waved farewell to the shopkeeper as he turned to head toward the next stall, waiting till Killian was ready. As they departed, Skullbasher looked back at Killian, speaking to him again. "You know...I feel really bad not knowing your name. I'm Skullbasher though...You know, if you need help again you can always go to the guild and ask for -" he cut himself short, realizing that he had made a mistake. "Sorry..I've never really been around a mute so I tend to forget that..." he trailed off momentarily before he cleared his throat and started again, unaware of the true reason for Killian's silence. "Well...anyways, you can go to the guild. When someone asks what you need you can point to yourself, then your eye and make a knocking gesture on the top of your head. They may or may not get it, but I'll be sure to tell the staff that you may come so they know to expect it," he stated, also unaware that Killian was already part of one the guild's teams.

Killian Killian followed the Other One Friend at a distance, careful that his steps didn't fall too closely to his tail. His eyes were mostly focused on the groceries he held in his hand, running their names over in his head, at least of the ones that he could see. There were several of the groceries that were wrapped in parcels, which seemed customary in this place, so those he couldn't name without seeing them; if he'd been so inclined he could have recalled which items had gone into which bag, but the Golurk didn't do such things to amuse himself like other Pokemon might--what was important to him was pleasing his masters, and little else.
The next place they stopped an odd thing happened: the Other One Friend ignored the Long Eared One Friend for a long moment before they finally interacted like had happened with the others. This was strange and somewhat inexplicable. The Long Eared One Friend didn't treat the Other One Friend any differently for it, and the Other One Friend made an odd gesture before continuing like normal as well. Was this customary for how to treat Long Eared Ones? Or maybe how to treat the Ones Who Sold Vegetables? Killian didn't know what was correct, so he erred on the side of caution and mimicked the gesture the Other One Friend had made by rubbing the side of his neck with his free hand, expression never changing. The rest of the interaction proceeded as usual, with the identifying of the small things and the packaging and the paying and the receiving, but this time Killian had his hand lowered so that the items could be placed into it directly rather than having the Other One Friend request his compliance in the matter. Everyone seemed satisfied by the interaction's conclusion, which the Golurk registered as a success: ideally his masters would be similarly satisfied.
As they set off again, the Other One Friend began to speak to him again, this time identifying himself as the One Called Skullbasher. Killian was hardly one to remark on or even indicate that there was any peculiarity to the name, but even the giant understood that this was not a name like any other he'd heard. Other names were usually words that held no other meaning except as identifiers for certain Pokemon: this one referred to a body part and an action. Still, Skullbasher would receive no odd look or indication of confusion from Killian, just a nod to show that the comment had been heard.
Then there was the apology--stranger than anything else yet this outing: that was enough to earn a deep moan from the Golurk that indicated some level of distress or confusion. He was not One Who Received Apologies. He was not even One Worthy Of Apologies. He was the One Called Killian and the One Called Friend and the One Who Served His Masters: none of these things were enough to make him worthy of apologies. The Other One Friend Called Skullbasher had also called him a mute, which he was not, though it did no real harm in him thinking that. The apology was the strange thing, and Killian shook his head in a negative to indicate that it was not something that was to be said to him.
The Other One Friend Called Skullbasher was explaining something to him that he didn't understand now--some sort of gesture to him that he should use with Pokemon at the Guild. The three gestures put together didn't make sense to the Golurk, who had not been instructed by his masters to report to anyone else at the Guild, and so he shook his head once again to express a negative. With his free hand the giant pointed down at the paper that Skullbasher held and then raised his arm to lay across his chest, fist over his heart. Perhaps that would convey what was necessary. He couldn't let the Other One Friend leave him because of some confusion over this, but he also wouldn't listen to the commands of One Who Was Not His Master if they weren't conducive to performing his task. Still, he wondered if it was enough to satisfy the Other One Friend Called Skullbasher; Killian certainly hoped so, since it had been far easier before he'd started with the questions again.

Skullbasher Despite the silence, Skullbasher had thought that he and his companion had been getting along quite well. Now though, it seemed as if something he had said had upset the fellow. He watched the odd gestures and latched onto the only one he understood: the pointing at the paper. Skullbasher rubbed at his neck again, feeling awkward once more. Unsure of what else to do, he commented as he turned back to head toward the other stall, "I'm not sure what I said to offend, but I apologize for crossing...whatever line it was that I crossed. I'm sorry. I won't press the matter."He pointed ahead of them at one of the other stalls, "That one there with the Flaffy standing at it has, as far as I can tell, what appears to be the last of your groceries. She sells grains, nuts, and fresh herbs. And that other thing there, that's a grinder where she can grind some of the grains into flour." It didn't take long to cover the rest of the distance between them and the happy looking Flaffy. He wasn't sure if the shop owner was naturally happy or if word had made it around that big spenders were shopping for food stuffs, but they were greeted in a very joyful manner. "Welcome! Welcome! Busy day! What can I get you?"Skullbasher smiled a bit and nodded. "Yes ma'am. We need some rice, some flour, and some of this, this, and this," he said as he pointed out the various items and then telling her the amount as she went to bag the different things. The flour and rice she scooped out of the closed clear bins, weighing them on a scale. When she had ensured that each had been weighed correctly she sealed the packages shut and handed them over across the counter. The shop owner started tallying up the total and asked Skullbasher for the appropriate amount, which he proceeded to count out aloud as he had done at the various other stops. This time, however, he didn't have exact change as he had had at the other stops. He had to break a larger bill instead. The shop owner, of course, counted back the change to him afterward. With a wave and a polite good bye, Skullbasher deposited the change back into the money pouch that he had been in charge of for the adventure. Skullbasher would check the list again, and if there was nothing else left, he would hand the money pouch back to Killian and offer to help Killian carry the groceries (helping him do so should Killian allow him, or simply politely accepting his decision and bidding him farewell should the Golurk choose not to). If there was still more to get, however, he would continue on to the next destination more quiet than he had been earlier. He was, afterall, still unsure of what Killian's gestures had meant and not understanding didn't sit well with him. He didn't like to be left in the dark, but there was little he could do other than try and keep from insulting his large companion further.

Killian There were the apologies again! Why was it that the Other One Friend Called Skullbasher insisted apologizing to he who was undeserving of such things. Apparently his indications hadn't been understood as what he'd intended them to, and for the first time Killian found himself wishing that he could express himself in some other way. The Other One Friend was making that action again, though this time to him rather than to any vegetable salesperson or Lopunny, and it was all thoroughly confounding to the Golurk. Still he mimicked the gesture just as before, not wanting to offend for whatever reason; maybe it was a gesture made to Any One Called Friend. Tilting his head, Killian stared down at the Other One Friend expectantly, waiting to see what would happen next, and once again found that nothing seemed to change in the wake of the gesture. What was it's purpose? There was no way to ask however, and the Other One Friend Called Skullbasher had already moved on to a new subject, so he had to pay close attention again.
The Fluffy One Friend Called Flaffy was the next Pokemon who had some of their "groceries", and possibly the last one according his companion. Skullbasher was explaining the technicalities of her shop to him now, and Killian listened as before to commit it all to memory. He was interested in the idea that these things called "grains" could turn into something else entirely if they were put into the "grinder", but he imagined he would see it sooner or later if it was something he needed to know. This time the Other One Friend made it clear that the Fluffy One Friend Called Flaffy was also the One Called Ma'am, but he was somewhat less clear on what each of the individual items were that he'd purchased. Still the ritual of the money counting was repeated, though this time it was a bit strange since the Fluffy One Friend returned some of the money to the Other One Friend when it was done--apparently because he'd given her too much of the money. The Golurk looked on silently as usual, taking it all in and even offering a wave to the Flaffy when they stepped back, since he was learning from Skullbasher's actions that this was expected. All in all, Killian felt as though his Other One Friend Called Skullbasher had done an excellent job, and he certainly could have said that he knew more about this thing called "buying groceries" than he did before.
When Skullbasher looked back to the list he would find it well and truly exhausted--somehow. The shopping had taken quite some time, but it was finally finished and everyone seemed all the happier for it (except the shopkeepers who Killian and Skullbasher hadn't graced with their payments). Certainly it was clear that the Golurk was pleased when the money and list were passed back to him and he found everything on the list accounted for in his memory: he could even identify which parcels he held corresponded to which words on the list, and which ones were spices, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and so on. A soft humming sound resonated from Killian, and he seemed quite pleased when he looked back to his companion, who was now extending the offer to assist him with the groceries that he held now in both hands. Shaking his head at the offer, Killian turned to leave and then hesitated, realizing that the Other One Friend Called Skullbasher seemed to have been somewhat upset by something. He shouldn't care--it wasn't important to his task which was now completed and this Other One Friend was not One He Called Master--but he somehow felt it would be wrong after all this to simply part ways without anything: he owed the Other One Friend a debt for this after all. Turning back, the Golurk made a loud sound like a bell being struck and placed a hand down in the Other One Friend Called Skullbasher's way before he could get too far. The plethora of groceries, in one hand, Killian used his free hand to gesture to himself, then the Other One Friend, and then in the direction of the city where the Guild could be found. If his Friend still didn't understand from that, Killian would make a quiet sound of decision and scoop Skullbasher up in his free hand before heading back toward the Guild himself. Either way Killian was making his way home and he was taking Skullbasher with him.((Two options here: wait until we're finished with the Kent RP in the room and then do the follow-up to this one or shift to the streets and have one or more of Essence find them there since they've gone looking for him (who you are free to choose if you have any preference between Neo, Air, and Lux or some combination thereof--you'd get everyone if we wait for the room to be free). I left the amount of time this took indeterminate so that if we do go the streets route it'll be about dusk which is why they're searching for him, since it's been a whole day.))
