Shenra looked around the unfamiliar buildings and shops. She twitched her nose in an attempt to hold back the feelings of fear and tears in her eyes.
She had grown up in the Ashen City, but it was so vast that she could get easily lost if not careful. Unfortunately, she hadn't paid attention to the trolleys that ran near the shopping district, and had gotten on one that had taken her to the other side of the city. She had wandered around for a while hoping to see a familiar landmark, but she couldn't see anything.
So, until the feelings of loneliness and fear passed, she sat huddled on a doorstep trying to keep calm.
Somehow she had to get home!

Odette paced down the city's streets on her way to the Citadel. She was getting used to the patrol. Being a warrior for the city was a special task. She would soon enter the Order's Guard, hoping to become a warrior for Seren, whom she had learned about over the course of her time being back in the city. The first step was to know all the ins and outs of the city. It was a big task, but she was capable of learning.
As she was walking down the city's streets, someone caught her eye. A girl sat upon a doorstep, seemingly scared, and not one citizen was stopping to help her out. Although Odette wasn't the kindest soul, she felt for the young girl, lost and alone. Sort of how she felt when she was extremely young.
Odette raised a brow and ultimately decided to approach her, unaware of the issue she was having. "Hey...are you alright?" she asked, curiously. She seemed jittery, but Odette hadn't known why. Hopefully she could help in whatever way she could; and to be honest, hopefully the help she needed wasn't too much. After all, Odette was a busy woman these days, and had little patience for others.

Shenra flinched when she saw the large shadow envelope her. She then saw a lady with pink hair who was casting the shadow. Her parents had told her never to talk to strangers, but this one seemed as if she was willing to help. Besides, she seemed to look like one of the younger people who worked with the city guards. So surely they were ok to talk too?
"N-no." Shenra said, hearing her voice wobble a little. Shenra used all her strength not to cry. She wound't cry. Tears solved nothing, and she couldn't waist her energy doing that. She breathed deep and tried to control her voice. "I-I can't find a place I know. I boarded the wrong trolley and don't know these streets at all." She breathed deeply again and looked into the girl's eyes, "I'm scared..."
She couldn't help that she felt like she would never see home again. Not her brother and sister, not her ma or pa... It made her feel like she couldn't move at all it was so strong! Tears threatened again, and yet, again she fought them back. She had to be brave to find her way home!

A lost little girl? Odette sighed, she had known the feeling before; especially when she was this girl's age. Odette forced a smile and knelt down to the girls level, who was still sitting on the porch step. "Well, don't worry. We'll get you home, alright?" she stated, offering a hand to help the girl off the porch and onto the sidewalk.
"My name is Odette, by the way. Odette Duperion; but you can call me Det, if you'd like." she stated. "What's your name?" the pink haired Orderite questioned. She could tell that this girl was about to break. As much as she felt her pain, she knew her annoyance would creep up if she started to cry. Hopefully this "good deed" would be a helpful thing to put down when she finally was able to apply to the Order's Guard.
Before the two moved anywhere, Odette looked both ways and realized that she had no idea where the girl had lived. One last question crept into her mind. "Wait, what streets are you familiar with?"

Shenra stood and took the the girl's hand. She seemed to brighten as she told Shenra she would get her home. "You will?" She didn't feel alone anymore, and the fear was ebbing away, and then smiled, "Thank you!"
"My name is Shenra. Shenra Silverleaf!" It was nice to at least meet someone new in this frighting situation. She smiled an said, "I like your name. It sounds nice."
At Odette's question, the worry sort of came back into Shenra's heart. But now she had a person who would help her, and so she wouldn't be afraid.
"I know the main shopping place... That's where I took the wrong trolley..." Shenra didn't know what streets that was on, but suddenly perked up, "I know! When I ride the trolley home from school, I go past the trolley house, and it has two names on it..." Shenra tried to think, closing her eyes to see the trolley house in her mind. Her wings popped free and seemed to cheer her on by fluttering a bit. "Um... Mason and.... Clay! Mason and Clay Street!"
Shenra nodded. She was so sure of it. She passed that trolley house all the time!

Odette nodded, the forced smile softening to a more natural one. As the girl stated her name and said she liked hers, the pink haired Orderite bowed. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Shenra Silverleaf." she stated, ending her bow and then began walking down the street, motioning the girl to follow.
As Shenra explained her situation and finally knew what streets she lived on, Odette was trying to track in her mind which other streets intersected on that one. The cobblestone paths led many ways within the bustling city, and she knew that if she would ever officially be invited to join the Order's Guard she would have to know the city inside and out.
Odette knew where the trolley house was, as it was in a more central location in town. But surely this girl lived in the housing district, right? She muttered the name of the street under her breath a bit, and as the two walked, found a street that she knew intersected Mason and Clay Street. "There we are. We just have to take this street down until we get to Mason and Clay." she stated, rather happy she was able to help. Though the housing district was on the opposite side of the city from where they were, the two could at least get to know one another in the meantime.
"So, tell me a bit about yourself, Shenra. What do you like to do for fun? What are you going to school for?" she asked, trying to keep the girl's mind off of being lost and hoped that it would calm her down; not that she was necessarily even scared, she didn't seem scared anymore anyway; but nevertheless. If a child was lost, the city guard would be sure to make them feel safe.

As they kept moving, Shenra lost all sense of loneliness and smiled at Odette.
"I live father down from the trolley house! If I run along it doesn't take me a long time. The street I turn down has a deli on the corner, and sometimes I buy something for mama if she asks me to go get it." She thought about that for a moment and said, "After that, I have to count the streets. We live in a huge circle street, and there is a park right in the middle of it! Sometimes Pa and I take my brother and sister out there to give Ma some quiet time."
Shenra's head perked up and she smiled as the older girl asked her what she liked to do.
"I love to take things apart and make them better!" Though sometimes she had to be careful of what she was taking apart. "Ma is teaching me how to make things too! She helped build our house!" She scrunched up her nose and said, "Though Ma said I have to go to school still to learn a lot more math. She said that it would help with my building things!"
She then turned curious eyes up to Odette. "What do you do? Do you still go to school? Where do you live?"

Odette chuckled at the many things this girl said. She was happy to help, and it warmed her heart, especially since she saw the fear melt away as she offered to help. It's what a good guard would do, after all.
The Orderite was surprised when the young girl talked about how her mother was one who helped build the Silverleaf home. It was amazing what people could do these days. Technology was flourishing within the Orderite city, and it was always great to find others who liked to help the city grow.
"That's great. Math is necessary for a lot of things; even though I hadn't really started to learn any until I was about your age." Odette recalled. It had only been about six years since she came to the city with Evesi. "Your mother must be a very smart woman." she stated, looking ahead, wondering what it would be like to have a real mother.
As the girl began to question her, she smiled. "Well, right now I'm just training to be apart of the Order's Guard. I really want to help protect the city. This city saved my life when my sister and I first came here. I go to school, yes, but for entirely different reasons. Once I passed the basic classes, I've stuck solely to weapon's training and research on the history of battles and technology. Strategizing and calculating how to make the first move against an opponent is important." she began. Once she realized this girl probably had no interest in battling, she continued on the final question. "I live within the Citadel, right now. In their provided dorms. I don't really have a family outside of my sister, so we live peacefully within the Citadel's walls." she concluded.

"Ma knows a lot, but Pa was the one who taught her. He's really smart, he went to school for a long time, but he had to quit, and that's how he met Ma." Shenra thought it terribly romantic how her parents met.
Odette went on about battle strategies and such, and while it didn't interest Shenra in the extreme, she loved to hear what the girl liked to do.
"You are really nice, and I think that you would make a good guard!" Shenra said smiling, "You already are guarding me... er... sort of!"
When she talked about not having a family she knew what that was like... Well, sorta.
"My Pa doesn't have any family either!" she thought about that for a moment and said, "Well, he has Ma, and me, and my brother and sister, but he doesn't have any parents... They died before he met my Ma..."
Shenra knew most people had two sets of grandparents, but she only had one. Pa's parents had died before she knew them, and while she loved hearing about them, and loved that they gave her Pa, she didn't feel sad too much about them being gone.
She looked up at Odette smiling and said, "Would you like to meet my family? I mean we are going there... I don't think Ma or Pa would mind!"

Odette smiled at the girl's kind words. Shenra truly thought that she would make a great guard? How kind. When she spoke of her parents, Odette looked at her with saddened eyes. Similarly to her own experiences, Odette realized that this girl's father was similar. No parents, and no family aside from the one he created for himself.
Odette thought about that a moment. She didn't have anyone in her life except for Evesi. She didn't mind, however, because Evesi was all she really, truly needed.
"Well, I'm glad to be of assistance." Odette said, a smile still on her face. "And I'm sorry to hear that about your pa." she stated, losing the smile she had on her face.
The two continued to walk a bit further down the city streets, and finally, Odette spoke up, "Are you beginning to recognize these streets? I believe we're getting closer." she said, hoping that the girl would know.
It was nice to get to know someone new. Obviously, the girl had her unit she went out dragon hunting with; but it was incredible to meet someone else for a change. Someone who seemed so nice, so polite, and so kind. Shenra reminded Odette of Evesi in the best ways. That was likely why the Orderite took so well to her.

Shenra shook her head, "Thank you for helping me, I may have been born in the city, but I don't know all it's places." She smiled up at the girl "It's ok. Pa said he had his parents for a while, and was happy with that time he had with them."
But sometimes, she thought that even though he had his new family, he looked a little sad at times and lonely. She shook that thought away and looked around after hearing Odette's question. Things did look familiar, and as she heard the clanging of the trolley ahead, she perked up. Was this turely the place where she hopped on to go home?
As they came to the end of the street they were on, she smiled. Yes, this was the place.
"This is it! This is the street the trolley takes!" she looked up and down looking for which way to go. She then pointed to her right and said, "That's the way! A little hill and then flat!" She tugged at Odette's arm, "Comm'on! This way!"
And with that, Shenra began to drag the older girl up the slight hill after the passing trolley.

Odette just nodded. "It was my pleasure" she said with a small half smile. She was pleased to help, and Shenra seemed like such a sweet girl.
Then, all of a sudden, Shenra was excited and dragged Odette by the arm up the hill.
"Oh!" she exclaimed at first, but as they reached the top of the hill, Odette smiled. "I'm glad you're safe." she stated. It wouldn't be long now before the girl was home completely safe from harms way.

Shenra ran as fast and far as her little legs could. She finally had to stop at the deli on the corner of the street she turned on to get home. She breathed in deeply the smells of meat and bread that mingled togeather just outside the door. "Good food here." Shenra said sniffing. She loved the deli. But now was not the time to eat or sniff food. "Almost home though. Can't stop for food now!"She tugged on Odette's hand and moved around the corner. She had to concentrate now as she counted the streets. As they walked, Shenra couldn't help but feel relived and happy to be home soon. Her tummy gave a rumble and she blushed. Perhaps mama would have dinner? "If there is dinner, you can eat at home too cause I want to repay you for helping me." Shenra nodded, "Pa makes good food. Ma does too, especially if Grandma is there."Soon Shenra came to the street that she turned down and broke into a run again. It wasn't too far, she could see her house past the large park in the square. She was just at the foot of her house when her ma came running out, her grandma behind her. "Shenra!" Shenra let go of Odette and ran to her ma and both hugged, "Oh my baby!"Shenra's mother hugged her tight. Shenra didn't mind, she hugged her ma hard back. Tears came then to her. Silent, but still, it felt good. She had been so scared. Even with Odette, it was still a little scary. She wiped her face and then leaned back and said, "I'm fine Ma! Odette helped me!" she turned to the pink haired girl and said, "She's gonna be a guard, and I knew I could trust a guard, so I told her were I lived and she took me home."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Orina looked up from her daughter, Gods how she had been worried when she didn't come home. But she saw the older girl there, and smiled. She stood and went over to her and gave her a hug. "I owe you a debt. Thank you for bringing home my daughter." Orina stood back and smiled despite her tears, "If there is anything my husband or I can do for you, we will try to help."She felt a tug at her side and let go of the Odette and looked down at Shenra. "Is there dinner? I'm hungry. Can Odette come too?"Orina wiped her eyes, laughed, and said, "Yes to both questions." she looked to Odette and said, "If you would like it, we do have a lot of food. Would you like dinner before you go?"

The little girl ran. She ran so fast that even Odette, someone who was older, had a hard time of keeping up. Shenra was excited. The Orderite could tell just by looking at her and the way she acted running towards home like she had.
Odette just kept her mind on where they were going, as they were now in more of the housing district than anything else. She was glad to be of service, especially if she was ever to get into the Order's Guard.
Finally, they arrived at the house, the woman, presumably the mother, was extremely scared for the safety of her little girl. Odette just smiled as she stood at the road, watching Shenra and her mother intertwine in a loving embrace. Oh how she wished she had that. How she longed for that. A few tears welled up in the Orderite's eyes just watching the scene unfold.
The mother had then smile at her, coming in for a hug all her own. All Odette could do was smile. She then spoke up at the question. "Th-thank you so much for the offer, ma'am. I'm really glad I was able to help. I'd love to join you for dinner, if you're sure it's no trouble."
Odette's heart was melted a little more that day when this girl came into her life. She vowed never to forget about little Shenra.
