Corny
Kirsi was stretched out along the cool sand, digging through it while waiting. Shousuke had told her that he had a surprise coming, and it was due today. He had said he wouldn't be able to make it until later in the afternoon, but she couldn't wait that long to come. She'd been there for hours already, leaving dragging trails through the soft earth as she meandered along. This was too exciting! Shousuke's surprises were always amazing!

Moose
Shousuke hoisted the lime green kayak over his head and kicked the door to his van shut. When he had it sitting on the ground the Wigglytuff put the oar inside before starting the process of dragging it down to the water's edge. This purchase had been a long time coming; as antsy as Shou was around water, it was an aspect of Kirsi's life and it didn't seem fair that he got to show her everything in his world but she couldn't do the same. At least this way they could balance it out...somewhat. "Hey Kirsi," Shou smiled upon seeing her and sat the kayak to rest on the sand.

Corny
The slam of the door caught her attention, making her perk right up to see. Her smile instantly brightened upon seeing her friend, but then her eyes widened curiously. What was that thing he was dragging along? "Dew!" she chirped, pulling herself along the sand to make their meeting quicker. She grabbed one of his legs to both give it a hug and to hoist herself upright for a better view of the tiny ship. It looked like a tiny ship, and yet, not... "What that is?" she asked, reaching out her free hand to smooth along the sleek edge.

Moose
Shousuke braced himself as he was grabbed onto, and reached down to affectionately ruffle her hair. "This is a kayak. It's a little, one man boat." He moved her arms so that he could bend down to her level, and slipped his arm around her waist to hold her up. "Kirsi, you're on land a lot, but the way you talk about the water...well, I thought maybe you might show me around. I can't swim under the water like you can, but with this," he patted the hull, "I'm good to go on the surface."

Corny
"Kaaaayyyaaaaaaak." She sounded the word out slowly, and giggled. That was a funny word. So it was a boat like she'd thought! The arm around her waist made her turn slightly to put her hands comfortable over Shou's shoulder, pressing happily against his side as she looked along the tiny boat. As the idea was revealed, Kirsi couldn't help lighting up. "Shou come over water in boat?" she asked excitedly, her tail giving a few flicks. Still, Shou really wasn't like her, and couldn't breathe under water... Her brow knit slightly. "You swim?" Thinking on it, she'd never actually seen him in anything deeper than his hips. Would he really be okay in such a little boat?

Moose
Shousuke's cheeks couldn't have gone without a flush if he'd tried. These days he just let them come and felt freer to smile. "Oh yeah," his smile turned to a grin, "I might not be able to keep up with you, but I can try." He unzipped his hoodie to reveal a life vest. "I...won't have to worry about swimming in the kayak." The idea of going out on the water itself was nerve wracking, but at least in the boat he felt safe. Besides, the weather had been fair, if a little chilly.

Corny
Head cocking, she reached out her hand to touch the life preserver. She'd seen those before. Some people on the beach wore them. "This helps you float!" she announced, happily displaying her knowledge. Well, maybe this would work out okay! She wondered if he would actually be interested in what was out there... All of her favorite stuff was under the surface, where he couldn't go... She would figure out something! "We go!" she chirped excitedly, letting go of Shou so that she could pull herself toward the water. She needed to think of a good spot to take him...

Moose
He zipped his hoodie back up and covered the preserver. There had been no plans to buy one, but the clerk had asked if he could swim and one had been thrown into the deal. "Yep, it sure does." He gave her a thumbs up as he stood. There was a lot of excitement in Kirsi today, so Shou just hoped he wouldn't muck it up. Moving behind the kayak, he pushed it into the water far enough so that he could get in without it taking off yet. Once he was strapped in, he took up the oar and awkwardly shipped out. Left, then right, then...right? Why was he moving in a circle?!

Corny
Once she'd seen Shou start to paddle, she'd started to swim, using only her arms to pull herself along and see how fast Shou could go. When she turned onto her back to check his progress, she was shocked to see him still by the beach! Well, this wasn't a good sign. She quickly swam back, and grabbed the bow of the kayak to point it in the proper direction. "Gotta paddle straight!" she offered oh-so helpfully with an encouraging smile.

Moose
As the kayak was righted, he lifted the oar out of the water with a snort. "I'm trying. Cut me some slack; it's my first time." Still, he couldn't help, but to laugh through his frustration. Once he figured out the rhythm, he started to move in the direction that Kirsi had taken off in to start with. "...Okay, alright I've got th- woah! O-okay now I've got this."

Corny
"Cut.. slack, dew?" she asked with a c**k of her head. What was slack, and how would cutting it help Shousuke's kayak go straight? When the tiny boat started moving again, she backed away from it with just her arms working again, her long tail staying mostly limp. It was hard to not use it, but, if she did, the kayak wouldn't be able to keep up! Still, she had decided on her first stop. It wasn't far. As they went along, she swam circles around the kayak, nudging it gently when it went off course, and even giving it a playful push a few times. "Here!" she yipped, grabbing the kayak to halt it. "I be back!"

Diving down under the surface, Kirsi searched a little until she found what she was looking for. Grinning, she grabbed it and swam back up. She dumped the empty shell of a huge clam into Shou's lap happily. "Music!" She tapped the top of the shell, and the open lips clacked together while the inside subtly echoed the knock. "Where I was born. They use for music!" Shou's job had a lot to do with music. Maybe he would find this interesting?

Moose
It took Shousuke a little to get himself reoriented on the water, which did nothing for his nerves. Little guys in a big boat in deep water didn't mix well. It was weird, seeing Kirsi actually being the one to slow down with him around. Concentration was lost as he watched her glide through the water like a genii of the stream. How cool was it that she could do that?

"Pff-!" Shousuke reached out to grab the kayak to brace himself. His momentary panic turned into confusion as he tried to lean over to see where she had gone. Just what was she...? "Woah!" He moved the oar out of the way and looked at the shell. It could have swallowed his whole head at one time, leaving nothing but his ears to show. "Really? Did you just use this type of shell or were there others?" Shou gave the shell a few experimental taps himself, testing out the rhythm, before he tapped out a little melody. He smiled. "Do you know any songs?"

Kirsi cocked her head in thought. "More. Lots more. Bigger an' smaller. Make different sounds." She giggled as Shou experimented with tapping the shell.

When he asked about her own experience though, her eyes shifted away. "Only what I learn myself. No one learned me songs at home." She reached out and tapped a nameless tune on the shell, humming along with it as well. At the least, that made her smile. Playing music was fun and relaxing~

I'm not ashamed.

"Well, you seem to know a lot for a girl who was self taught." Shousuke commented encouragingly. For a Wigglytuff it was second nature, as his kind sang from conception, even if few stayed awake long enough to hear it.

Mixing her rhythms with his, Shuosuke began to murmur out a tune,

I'm not surprised
Not everything lasts
I've broken my heart so many times,
I stopped keepin' track.
Talk myself in
I talk myself out
I get all worked up
Then I let myself down.

Looking to Kirsi his voice rose, following the lyrics to a song he'd heard on the car ride over. It wasn't his usual beat, but like Kirsi, it was natural. A heart felt song that brought a smile to his face and made him happy to hear.

I tried so very hard not to lose it
I came up with a million excuses
I thought, I thought of every possibility

And I know someday that it'll all turn out
You'll make me work so we can work to work it out
And I promise you kid, that I'll give so much more than I get
I just haven't met you yet

I spy a guilty conscience!! XD

Kirsi looked up with surprise when Shou began singing to her tune. She was stunned by his voice, but her hands kept tapping along the shell, the words and beats somehow working so well together as his words lead the way.

Her cheeks were pink with delight when the song ended. "Shousuke has wonyful voice!" she praised excitedly, the word 'wonderful' still a bit elusive to her tongue. "Shousuke sing another for me?"

Shousuke's cheeks were pink as well, but mostly from exertion. Then she said wonderful in such a cute way that it was all adorable flushing. It was all he could do to keep from tripping up on his words, so he had to cough to clear his throat.

"So soon? I thought we came out here to learn more about you." He responded with a pleasant chuckle.

Brow rising, Kirsi cocked her head slightly. Oh! That was right! He wanted to know more about her water world. She smiled with a slight wrinkle of her nose; a partially pleased and partially bashful grin. "Okay. You sing later for me."

Now, what should she find next for him to see? She put her hand to her lips in thought, webbed fingers tapping with uncertainty. "What.. What does you want to learn?"

The water underneath the bow of the kayak had begun to pick up and Shou was forced to pick up the oar once more to steady it. "I'll sing for you as much as you want." It was a simple enough request to meet, after all!

"For starters what's your favorite thing about the water? What is your home like? Family? Do you have many friends? A..a boyfriend or a girlfriend?" The last one was more out of selfish curiosity than anything else. It was stupid to think that she wouldn't, but the question begged to be asked all the same.

"Yay!" Kirsi chirped happily, looking forward to more singing. When the questions started though, her enthusiasm started to fall. Oh... Those kinds of questions... She wished she could climb into the boat for a hug, but she would probably tip it... But, Shou didn't come to be sad!

"Swimming best about water," she finally replied cheerfully. "Can go anywhere when can swim. All ways! On land, I can only go along ground. Water... like air for birdies!" She grinned and reached out to grab Shou's hand, skipping right over the family question. "Shou my friend. An' fishes. An' other water types down with me." And then, the boyfriend/girlfriend question.... Did he mean... like the people on land who never stopped nuzzling each other? Like back home, those who shared a cavern and continued their lines? Those who, on both ends, wouldn't give her a second look for such a special bond because she was so odd? Her eyes shifted away slightly. "Shou my friend," she repeated in reply.

Shousuke felt guilty for teasing her like this. He knew now more so than ever before just how ingrained Kirsi was into the water, and even though he'd wanted to share it with her, he was only able to go so far. Maybe one day...but not today.

He squeezed her hand with a smile. "So you like going fast, huh? That's pretty cute." And it was; flush or no flush. Her passion was infectious. Shou didn't even noticed she'd skipped over portions of his questions. Sensing a change, his smile wavered, but he stayed strong. "Yep, I'm your friend, and you're mine. ...Do you think we could move a little closer to shore now? The water's getting choppy."

Even with Kirsi holding onto the kayak it shifted to and fro, bringing out a fresh waves of nerves.

Shousuke's admission made Kirsi light up. She sometimes wished she could be a land person so that she could spend more time with Shou, and make more friends, but she couldn't imagine herself living out of the water. That was just crazy talk!

Her brow rose with Shou's nervousness, and she smiled sweetly. "We go." She didn't understand being afraid of the water, but she knew there were many things about land folk that she still didn't know. Grabbing the front of the kayak, she easily turned it and pulled it along back toward shore. She even climbed out onto the beach a couple feet so that Shou could climb out on dry land! "You keep music, okay?" she ordered, pointing to the big shell still in Shou's care.

He shifted a little to allow for the sway in the kayak. Shousuke couldn't say he wasn't happy to see a return to land, even if it did mean the end to their adventure. Once everything was stable, he hopped out and pulled the kayak completely out of the water. Within a moments time he had shucked himself out of the life vest, tossed it in the hull, and zipped his coat back up.

"Always," Shousuke chuckled. He held the shell before sitting it carefully on top of the life vest. "Hey, Kirsi...how about next time I take you to my place? I'll cook."

Stretching out on the sand, Kirsi couldn't help a sad little smile. Shousuke was clearly much more comfortable on land than he was on the water... It would apparently take time to get him to see how wonderful the water was. ..She had lots of time!

She pushed herself to sit up, looking at Shou intently. "I see Shousuke's water? Shousuke's home?" That sounded so nice! Just as quickly though, she cocked her head curiously. "What cook? Is fun?" Oh course, there was no concept of 'cooking' food underwater. Even her brief visits on land had never involved much food; and those that did never elaborated on the cooking process.

"Oh yeah, I'll give you the grand tour." He rolled up his sleeves as he spoke, giving his arm muscles some room to move as he hoisted the kayak up.

"Cooking is...well, it makes food tastier and it's something you'll just have to see for yourself. As for the fun...depends on the company, I guess." He smiled. With her around he was sure it would be fun, even if he were just heating up ramen.

"If you're free next week I can come by and get you. Same day, same time?"

Looking at Shou's arms, she cocked her head slightly with a little smirk. They were nice... Was that a weird thought? Probably.

"I want tastier food!" she cooed. "Shou make tasty food, yes? I want Shou food." So far, the majority of the land food she'd tried was fairly edible. Not great, but good. She followed Shou all the way up to his van, watching the kayak get put back up. "Same and same!"

Shousuke mounted the kayak onto his van and after making sure all the straps were in place he hoped down from the bumper to say his goodbyes. "I'll see you then. Today was really nice, Kirsi, thanks for putting up with me."

Why, if she looked a little closer she might even see that his cheeks were flushed.
