Nuri didn't anticipate he would be spending the early afternoon wandering the halls of the palace, finding ways to entertain himself while he father and elder brother met with some of the higher nobles. Eventually, he would imagine he would be housed in this building, a member of the soldiers who fought for the lands. Yet, at this precise point, he found himself anxious and uncomfortable, painfully aware that he had wandered quite far from where his family was set to meet.

Nuri was lost.

Growing to himself as he glanced at a decoration on the wall, the prentice scrubbed his face in frustration, allowing himself a long moment to drop his guise and just be the teen he was. After that moment was over, he fell back into his lifted chin, relaxed shoulders, and clasped arms - the almost-perfect soldier. It would not do to run into nobility looking like he didn't belong, or even to run into one of the generals. The embarrassment he would bring onto his family would be unacceptable.

So, as he took a deep breath, he moved to look away from the walls and down the halls, searching for someone he could inquire directions with. There had to be servants around here somewhere, there was no possible way he was truly alone. Once he found one, he could simply request to be shown back to the main hall, where it would be easy to find his way back to where he needed to be. The meeting would be over soon, so as long as he hurried, everything would be fine.

Varinia had a lot to do yet at the same time, her day was free. She had just left one of the store rooms that the Princess had fabrics in. With their departure for the King's old compound rapidly approaching, Naevius had wanted to try and get everything done as quickly as possible. Which meant packing. Lots and lots of packing. It wasn't really a bad thing, persay, but just that Naevius had acquired quite a few things (gifts mainly) since becoming princess. But it also meant that Naevius wanted to be prepared for the future, which was why she had sent Varinia to the stockrooms to fetch some fabric for clothing to be made not only for the Princess but also for her ladies. Naevius was actually quite kind, which had been a surprise to Vari. Sure they weren't really on the friendship level but maybe someday, at least that was what she told herself.

She made her way back through the halls with her basket full of fabric, it was a little heavy, but thanks to her former job taking care of those dear children, Varinia had gained some muscle having to pick up and carry babies and multiple things at once so it wasn't really a problem for her. Foot steps echoed through the hall of not only her own soft steps but another's. He appeared to be a soldier from his stance but he wasn't wearing a uniform. Perhaps he was off duty and had forgotten something. She smiled at him, though looking slightly confused, and nodded her head appropriately. It was a good thing he wasn't a bad guy or Varinia would have been screwed. "Afternoon." She said politely before continuing past him.

:3 your reply was perfect!

Nuri took another turn around a corner, and felt his step falter yet again. This couldn't be right, there had to be a mistake. He was certain he had passed that set of armor already, and that he was once more back in the same area that he had started again. Running a hand through his hair, he suddenly caught the sound of footsteps down the hall, and caught sight of a servant up ahead appearing to head his way. Determined to ask for directions, he straightened his back and walked in her direction, lifting his chin and dropping his shoulders.

Just as they made to pass, he slowed his pace and turned his shoulders, but she moved right by. His mouth dropped open at her brisk greeting, and she continued on. Spinning on a heel, he let a beat pass as he watched her go, before quickly clearing his throat and moving a step to follow.

"A moment if you will..." He called out, waiting for her to turn and silently cursing himself for not having said it before she passed him in the first place. Then again, his father had made it a point to not make eye contact, nor conversation with other's servants, so he didn't quite think his way through how to catch the attention of a servant of the palace.

Oh no, Varinia thought, did I just walk by someone important I hadn't see yet? She thought worriedly to herself even though she knew pretty much all the important people at court from being at Naevius' side at various parties. Vari was lucky Naevius liked having someone she felt she could talk to at the parties, most times people scoffed at her being there but Naevius never paid any attention. "Oh, yes?" Vari said, stopping and walking back to the young man. She shifted her weight onto one foot and rested the basket on her hip as one would a baby. Old habits die hard.

Varinia noticed that he didn't meet her eyes which caused her to frown. Did she have some sort of disease or something she didn't know about? "Is there something I can help you with?" Her foot tapped ever so slightly. There was a lot to be done and talking with someone in the hall was eating up precious time that could be used elsewhere, such as writing Reil but that she did in her free time...which she wouldn't have much if she dawdled for too long.

Taking a breath, his eyes wandered around the room once more before he determined to get an idea of her standing. Her clothing was loose, clearly made for comfort and not for fashion. She wasn't in any sort of matori attire, which meant she wasn't that low in the form of a slave. That was a relief, because he wasn't at all trained on how to deal with a slave on his own. Servants he could deal with, for he had many in his own house hold, slaves on the other hand was something his father and brother were more apt to handle.

Lifting his head from the skirts that were silent and meek, he eyed the basket she held on her hip, the fabrics much too fashionable for any sort of servant. His brows shot to his hairline as he realized this girl was clearly much higher in the totem pole in terms of servants. Did she work for a lady in the castle, or possibly the royals. Lifting his gaze to finally look at her face for the first time since he called her to stop, he kept his features schooled and closed as he listed to her tap her foot. Even that was soft, she seemed trained to keep her noise down and her expression meek. Well...meek enough.

He felt almost as if he were bothering her.

"Yes. I will need you to escort me back to the main gathering hall near the entrance." He said stiffly, realizing he was most likely interrupting her from getting back to where she needed to be. However, he knew that she was there to serve him, that was just how it was meant to be. Despite what his father taught him, he would break the code of speaking with those beneath his standing, for it would look much worse for him to show up lost, disgruntled, and weary to the gathering.

He would simply dismiss her as soon as he recognized the way.

Varinia's foot stopped tapping as soon as he made his demands of her. His demands. Not requests. Her frown deepened from his demand to his stiff voice and expression. She didn't like this not one bit. Vari stood there for a few moments, staring at him. She was no servant or slave, yes she did work for the king but she was able to leave whenever she wished. Not like she would, the money was way too good and it was a good job. "You need me to escort you back to the main gathering hall near the entrance please." There was great emphasis on the word please as she continued her hard look at him. She wasn't obligated to help him. She didn't have to. Sure she could get in trouble for being too rude or anything, but Naevius liked her so there probably wouldn't be too much punishment...she hoped. Nevertheless, this boy would say please if he wanted her help. Vari fought the urge to just leave him there. Sure she wasn't of his rank, whatever that was, but she was a free citizen of Oba as well as working in the king's household, please and thank you were expected.
