Epsilon relaxed, comfortably rumbled, on the soft mossy banks of the sedately flowing river. His long tail was curled about him but he allowed his fin to drag in the water beside him. The day was hot, the sun's unforgiving rays beat down on his back, pinpricks of sweat broke out on his forehead and he found himself wishing he could lift up his masses of thick black curls to cool his neck in the occasional breeze. The water bled away some of his body heat, making the heat just barely tolerable. Epsilon sighed in relief as the wind shifted, ruffling his vibrant feathers and cooling his skin. The forest nearby offered relief from the sun's unforgiving glare but the trees sheltered him from all but the strongest gusts of wind and it was the stirring of the air that gave him the most relief.
The stallion sighed, it had been quite some time since he had grown up to leave his family's herd lands. He remained welcome there and visited often, but Epsilon could not stay with them in good conscience, he was too different, could not live up to their ideals. The older he became the more clear it had became that he did not fit in. He could only truly relate to Genesis, his sister by birth, although he felt both affection and love towards their adoptive family, but he was not one of them and upon reaching adulthood, had realized that he did not want to change himself to fit in. The blood that flowed through his veins was simply taking him down a different path, although he hadn't the heart to admit to his parents the complicated desires and dark urges that had led him to the decision to leave home in pursuit of them. He was comfortable as he was and decided it was simply time to move on rather than try to change to fit in. He simply told them that he needed his own space, and thankfully they had accepted that without further questioning him. despite that he found himself... Somewhat lonely without the constant companionship of his parents and siblings, he was not very good at playing nicely with others and consequently, he spent much of his time alone. He wasn't quite sure whether he preferred his new solitary lifestyle, he supposed only time would tell whether he had made the right decision.
Epsilon's facial features were beautiful to the point of femininity, but his mood shriveled as his mind pursued such melancholy thoughts and his elegant brows drew together in a frown that was somewhat frightening to behold. His elongated mouth with it's sharply curved fangs making him look somewhat nightmarish. Glancing down, Epsilon caught his reflection in the water and winced, shaking his head to clear his mind, it was too hot to try to sort out such complicated issues, he just wanted to bask and lay here until he thought of something to do that would relieve his boredom.

Pacing through the woods and silently cursing the overly-enthusiastic Spring sunshine, Keshani Avenara searched for a place where she could drink and cool down. This section of the woods was somewhat unfamiliar to her, and that only served to raise her ire as she moved along in search of a comfortable place to rest. Given her choice, Keshani preferred the cool bite of fall or the frozen stillness of winter to the cheerful warmth of spring or the outright heat of summer.
Not that she had a choice of weather, but the fact of her preference remained. This heat did nothing for her temper, and she certainly had no desire to run and hunt to vent her temper. Having a black coat in summer was annoying enough, Spring certainly didn't need to be so warm so quick. Add that to the fact that her indigo and silver mane tumbled down her neck and over her withers and back in artful disarray, and she was quickly becoming less 'artful'.
For all that she hated what it did to her wings, a swim was looking like her best option for a reprieve from this blasted weather. Turning down a slightly wider trail, the Kalona-blooded mare picked up her pace, recognizing the game trail as her best option to find water. With luck it would be a river and she could wade right in, drink her fill and cool down before she took flight for somewhere cooler. Maybe she'd go up into the mountains for the next season or two... There was certainly nothing keeping her here.
"Nothing but visiting what family I have." She corrected with a low sigh.
Still, her family was not the sort to be overly sentimental. She ould certainly follow the cooler weather without difficulty. And she rather doubted any would be foolish or brave enough to enter the den she had found for herself. In fact, the more she considered the idea the more she liked it.
She gave a faint smile and picked up her pace to a lope, allowing the breeze of her movement to wash through her mane and over her mist-colored wings. To the river first, to cool down and drink, and then she would make her plans.
At least, so she thought until she caught sight of what was lounging on the bank. 'How interesting...'
Drawing to a halt, she fluffed her wings and inclined her head in a faint nod to the stallion. "Forgive my intrusion, I only sought to drink and cool off."

Epsilon had dozed off, or rather, he had closed his eyes and drifted with his thoughts as he relaxed. He was startled from this reverie by the sound of hoof beats. The stallion's eyes slid open as he flexed his wings to work out the kinks, sighing. He had been enjoying his solitude, but that was the risk of relaxing in a public place. His bright crimson eyes ran over the mare, her elegantly curled horns, strange swirling markings, and her deep purple mane, shot through with threads of silver. His brow raised quizzically, but a small mocking smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth as he eyed the newcomer.
"Why should I mind," he replied with a disinterested shrug, "The river belongs to you as much as anyone else." his voice had a husky, seductive edge, but his gaze was detached. Epsilon's flesh rippled over toned muscles as he stretched luxuriously. The slight crease of his brow was all that betrayed his irritation at company but he wasn't entirely without manners.
"The river is deep here, not fast, but the current is quite strong. If you go under... I'll not fish you out again." his deep voice held a hint of condescension. In his opinion, her spaded tail was only slightly less useless than that of a regular. He didn't have high hopes in her swimming ability, then again, watching someone drown could be interesting, the day had been rather uneventful thus far.

The stallion lounging on the bank was of mixed blood, though Keshani was not entirely sure what all was 'mixed' in. His wings were lovely, four feathered appendages that she eyed with some mix of curiosity and envy. His mane was a riot of soft waves and some of it bound in a tail, his feathering also long and silken. His tail was also quite interesting, finned something like a Kelpi and smooth like a Kalona, but different. He was different.
The small smile on his wide mouth made her tilt her head, the glow of her eyes dimming faintly. His words were hardly unreasonable, neutral but mocking in their own way, though the voice itself was pleasant. In spite of herself, she gave a faint smile even as she shook her head.
"There is no real reason why you should, but that does not stop many from doing so regardless. It would be foolish beyond reckoning to think that everyone in this land was capable of reason, when so many of them have proven otherwise. If I assume one is not, and they prove otherwise, then I am merely pleasantly surprised." She gave a faint shrug and a flick of her tail. "And so I am on this day."
She considered his words regarding the river and drifted toward it slowly. It certainly meant that she was less inclined to swim, with news on the current. She might still wade, but swimming was out; Keshani loathed to struggle in front of others, and she would not prove this stallion correct if he assumed she was weak or delicate.
"I have no interest in swimming and even less in someone rescuing me." She retorted softly with a shrug of her wings. "These are better suited to flying than they are to swimming. I merely desired to wade and cool off, and have a drink."

Epsilon moved his shoulders in a small shrug, his expression was unreadable but his eyes glittered as he listened to her words and he snorted when she finished. "True enough, I can't say I disagree with your assessment" he paused, glancing rather regretfully at the bubbling river's surface. "I suppose that is for the best." He glanced at the water, "Drowning is rather loud, I've noticed, doubtless your splashing would cool me off but... I find the only thing I'm really enjoying about this day is the quiet, since the weather leaves much to be desired."
He gazed into the distance, it was a mark of his boredom that he turned back to the mare. He wasn't one for company but having spent most of the morning laying in one spot and roasting alive he was finding himself a bit more talkative than usual. "So what are you... Up to?" he inquired awkwardly, the unfamiliar small talk falling from his lips even as they twisted in distaste.~Latonia de la Courtel~ Sorry! Major writers block x'D

Keshani watched him shrug with a faint narrowing of her eyes, wondering what thoughts moved through his mind. It was rare that she encountered someone who was not easy to read, but this stallion was Sphinxlike in his unflinching regard. Whatever his thoughts were, if he wished to keep them to himself, that is exactly where they would stay.
The fact that he agreed with her was moderately satisfying. "There are many foolish souls that have proved me correct, time and time again. It is a pleasant surprise to encounter one that is otherwise, I will say that."
She followed his glace to the water and made a soft snorting sound like muffled laughter, amused at the mental image of one drowning. Or perhaps, it was more accurate to say that she imagined the stallion lounging on the bank and demanding the drowning party to do so quietly.
"I will do my best not to disturb you then." She returned tartly, wading into the water and giving a low sigh as the water soaked her legs and lapped at her belly. Her tail twisted and lashed back and forth, making rippling patterns along the surface.
"Up to?" Keshani echoed, something like blank uncertainty filtering through her. "Ah, on this day I was well up before the sun, which was fortunate as that was the only suitable time to hunt. The night was still cool and the world wrapped in mist, so I fed and drank deeply of a pool I know. I have been to visit some of my family and looked for sport of some kind, but as the sun has risen the day has grown quite miserable and I rather lack interest in the effort most entertainments would require."
She gave a faint shrug and then glanced at him. "And you, what entertainments have you found on this somewhat-lacking day?" Faithofthefallen That's ok, I'm right there with you I'm afraid. Sorry!
