The Rooftops

The guild is large and has plenty of space above its ceiling so multiple rooftop areas were made so members can climb the winding staircases up and view the surrounding territory all while still being in the safety of the guild!
View finders are located here as well so you can look into the distance through magnified eyes.
Guard rails are placed around every lookout point so smaller, younger members can not fall off.
It is encouraged to keep an eye on children in this location as they have a tendency to climb the benches dotting the area and jump for the rails like the little daredevils they are.

Being back was weird, if not a bit unsettling and it was hard to say if the more difficult change to swallow was the difference over time of the area as a whole, or not yet seeing a single face or hearing a name he'd recognized. Sort of like anything that'd happened over 25 years ago was no longer relevant-- which... it wasn't, at least not directly. It was plenty relevant with the guilds back at all. Still, 25 years was a long time for aging and a short time for history to seemingly die out.
It was only a good 20 or so minutes into aimless wandering that he wondered if ditching Alfred has been a good idea, but after 20 minutes, it was a wonder if he were even still in the building. He'd grown so desensitized to the other psychic's presence over time that one simply assumed they were around somewhere nearby. It was difficult finding him without tugging the thin string between the two, but that was hardly necessary. Even if the intensity of the tug differed drastically in context of 'I found you," and "I need help," he preferred to leave it be.

The psychic stopped at an open windowed balcony over one of the higher floors of the large building to stare off into the distance, find anything familiar maybe. Roads and walkways hardly ever changed, but who remembered something so minor as that? His neutral expression seemed to bore slightly before turning his attention up toward the sun for a frame of reference, then turning on cue toward the opposite side of hall, lined much the same way with a balcony every few 10 feet down the long corridor.
The Gardevoir paced overly casually, slowly before opening the large window and leaning out over the railing to stare into the distance. The large, circular hole of an area that surely didn't belong where it stood. Familiarity. The psychic exhaled deeply, lowering his upper body to comfortably lean on the railing against his arms as he surveyed the crater. "... And that's how it all started again." So much for a means to an end.

Venari
Katherine & Arturius

Katherine was out for a walk. It was a walk of purpose but it was also one without direction. The only necessity it bore was one of the act and not of the destination. She could have simply walked in circles if she had wanted to but she decided that it made sense for her to explore the building and the surroundings a little bit. Her steps were somewhat awkward, to say the least. She had a belt wrapped around her waist and from it extended two very short straps. Her sword, her comrade, known as Arturius rested in the sheath inside. She had been sightly uneasy when she first attached his sheath to the belt but much of that dissipated when Arturius calmly assured here that, while his sheath was a part of him, he couldn't feel anything through it. The experience was still very much awkward, not mentally but physically. It was like trying to learn to walk in new shoes or in clothes that were too tight to fit you. Every step was a reminder to try and adjust your habits. No matter how little Arturius could feel through that sheath, Katherine was not comfortable with it slapping against her behind every time she took a step.

So it was that the destination didn't matter, only the journey. A journey that Katherine abruptly decided to call to a halt. She didn't feel or sense him, for such things were beyond her, but rather she saw the Gardevoir. She... hadn't met many Gardevoir. She had never had a home among her kin and such meetings with them had always been brief and meaningless. Many of them had seemed oddly adverse to her for reasons she didn't quite understand but they had all been amicable enough. Still, the prospect of meeting someone else of her kind was exciting. It was a little bit scary too but it was mostly exciting. It was with this mixture of excitement and mild anxiety that Katherine quietly (if only out of habit) approached the strange Gardevoir from behind. "Hello."

His ears gave a faint twitch at the voice behind him. For a second, it was the extent of his response until he finally leaned up with a deep breath and glanced over his shoulder, then down at the Kirlia. "Hey," She looked nervous. Was... was she lost? Was she asking for assistance? He sure as hell didn't know where he was going but he was just going to teleport out when he was done here. It really made everything so much easier. The Gardevoir turned to face the girl before crouching to her level. Kirlia were far from tall and it made standing awkward both physically and emotionally. He'd known many of their species who simply avoided evolution to the best of their ability just due to the fact the height difference was so extreme and often difficult to adjust to. Same could be said for a lot of species, though. "Are you lost?"
It was strange. Usually he could tell when someone was coming within immediate distance of his being. Maybe he just drifted. It wouldn't be the first time. He could feel her fine now that he stopped and thought about it anyway. She seemed young too. It was never easy to say how old a species was so you just went by their tone.He sort of wished the guild would have put an age limit on recruits by now. Someone here must have known by now that it was genocide. He's gone through plenty of records in the past. Casualties? They were mostly teens and children.

Katherine & Arturius

Katherine shook her head. She wasn't lost but she did appreciate his concern and that much showed in her voice. "No, I'm just looking around and I wanted to say hi. I haven't met any of my kin in a while." He was a bit older than she had expected from the way he had been standing. Though it was hard to tell how old he was, exactly. Either he was a very old man with very good skin or he wasn't that old at all and his hair wasn't from age. The silvery colour was too thorough for it to be just a tinge of grey but aside from the slight lines under his eyes the man didn't look that old at all. "My name's Katherine. What's yours?"

Though she wasn't quite sure how she felt about him crouching down to eye-level with her. She didn't step back but she certainly didn't step too close, either. That would just be weird.

The Gardevoir smiled, she was polite-- he liked that. "Anues." He returned simply as he rested his hands on the floor and pushed himself up to stand back full height. "I'm more than old enough to be your father, though... And then some." He added finally, just for the curious mind. She didn't really try not to stare and eyes were easy to follow. Not that he minded in the least. It was a number, he was a Psychic. He had a long ways to go before he would even start to decline and even then the Gardevoir was in outstanding physical shape. Age was the least of his worries.
Anues stepped back to the wall, resting his hands on top of one another between his tailbone and the wall to relieve any unnecessary pressure. "Not finding many of our kind is impressive. There's a small number of colonies around here... though when I was growing up, they were primarily a ways north of here." The latter comment seemed to be an afterthought more than anything else. He actually never went back up there, but Alice seemed to at... one point. He hadn't heard from her since. "So Katherine, what brings you here?" Desperation, stupidity, ignorance, etc... He mention her seeming new to her surroundings, but it was hard to tell if that were the case, or she was simply awkward by nature.
...Lastly, why did a Psychic have such an inconvenient weapon?

Venari
Katherine & Arturius

Katherine didn't particularly mind that Anues was older. Or, rather, she didn't really care; she didn't have a reason to. She couldn't imagine why his age would matter beyond the fact that she would treat him with the appropriate respect as one of her elders. She was glad when he stood up and leaned back; it made him seem much more relaxed and personable. It made him easier to talk to. "Really?" She had never run into any other Gardevoir groups, at least not in anything more than brief passing. They had always been small and, like her, they had always been travelers. Then again, she wasn't really sure how long she had been traveling when she reached here. Nor was she really all that sure where she had come from, which is why she was here.

When Anues asked her "what" brought her there, she almost repeated that she was out for a walk before she bit her tongue. He meant the guilds, probably. "I had an accident while I was traveling. I'm looking for my mother, we were separated." She gently touched the hem of her hair. "I got my looks from her. I'm hoping if I look around enough, someone will recognize me." She seemed about as happy as one could be given the subject; it wasn't exactly a happy one in spite of her reasonably cheerful attitude.

Anues nodded idly and his eyes drifted elsewhere as they often did. He assumed there were still plenty around. Entire civilizations didn't just up and leave. Where he came down from, there were scattered villages lining down the entire coast. They were large and often miles and miles apart, but he was fairly far away now from where he was as a child. He didn't care to think on it too much, but it was strange how time altered your perception. The psychic couldn't really pin a general distance from a to b anymore despite being all the more active in moving about.
His attention returned to her with a comment concerning her mother as she toyed with her hair. "It sounds difficult, sorry to hear." And he was, despite his often neutral-bored tone. She seemed to be handling it fairly well though. "Suppose you've come to the proper place then. You couldn't have been too far from where you are now, no? Chances are she'll find her way here too." The guilds weren't exactly this secret little place only a few people knew about. It was quite literally a power, just sitting there waiting to help the community. Or kill God. Either or, really he didn't know what they were doing anymore. Still, the fact she was so casual about it on top of wielding a weapon, it was hard to say how long she's been travelling alone... Oh, speaking of. "I'm curious Katherine, why on Earth do you have such a weapon with you?" Indoors went unsaid. Really though, he meant it, she was so tiny. Existing made her look awkward and it irritated him slightly.

Venari
Katherine & Arturius

"Yes. I hope so too." Truth be told she wasn't that optimistic about the idea of her mother finding her here but there was always a chance she would find her mother elsewhere. Or at least a clue of some sort. She stood out. All she had to do was look around long enough and either she would find her mother or her mother would find her.

That question, however, gave her cause for hesitation. Arturius had, both plainly and implicitly, stated that he didn't have much interest in talking to others. It had been a very direct claim and it meant exactly what he had said it meant: he simply didn't have any interest in talking to others. Would it be fine if she identified him or would it be better if she just made up a story on the spot? She didn't have to make that choice. "My name is Arturius. I am her partner as assigned by the guild. I am what is typically referred to as a 'Honedge', or so I have been informed. I requested that Katherine carry me for the sake of improving our cooperation during missions."

"Well... there you go." said Katherine sheepishly.

Huh.

The psychic was silent, frozen in an inquisitive stare at the Kirlia from where he idled against the wall. Nothing particularly surprised him, no, not anymore, but that didn't mean a large number of things stopped being weird or just creepy. He might have been around for 53 years, but he grew up fairly sheltered with Aire. He never left because he didn't have to. Honestly, he really wasn't that familiar with common species by a fairly large margin. Legendaries, for the most part, were something anyone could have known of through books, rumor, other tales. A sentient sword wasn't on a list of what he'd ever expect to come across though.
Anues finally blinked. His posture relaxed as he took a deep exhale and crossed his arms before his attention came back into focus. So he's-- it's self aware, but it doesn't know it's own species. "Is that right..." If it worked, he supposed. Despite the skepticism in his voice, he was mostly just puzzled.
Intrusive, but for a moment he wanted to grab the Kirlia and hold her out the window to see what would happen. Asking worked too, he supposed. "Can it move?" Wasn't really ready to explain why he would have been bleeding out to Alfred-- because he wouldn't believe him.

Venari
Katherine & Arturius

"I can, yes." Arturius simply slipped slightly out of his own sheath and then slid right back in. "I am capable of floating and moving under my own power but in this particular case Katherine would first have to remove me from her belt. Although I can leave my sheath I prefer not to leave it behind except outside of necessity." The sheath was an extension of himself no matter how plain it looked. He wouldn't leave it.

"Speaking of which, Katherine. Would you please turn your belt so that I may see?"

"Oh! Um, yes, of course." Katherine briefly had a soft red shade to match her orange as she slightly loosened and gently turned the belt around so that Arturius was in front of her. The blue gem on the cross-guard seemed to "move" about actively until it finally came to a stop, almost as if it were an eye.

"Thank you Katherine."

Well, that was just a little bit awkward and Katherine was happy to move past it, even if she had to force the matter by speaking. "What about you Anues? Why are you up here?" The Gardevoir didn't really seem to be doing anything after all.

So it was a sentient sword that could talk and move by it's own accord. What Arceus was doing up there was beyond him, but he experienced the God enough to stop asking any and all questions. Things were just assumed to happen-- often bad things. He supposed it was efficient though. Like a personalized weapon. That was still inconvenient to even look at. Still, the psychic merely watched the two adjust themselves before offering a light nod in acknowledgement of the strange partner. It felt weird, but it was alive, so.

When the question fell on his ears, the psychic's head tilted slightly to better view Katherine. What was he doing up here? "Nothing, as you can see." That's all it was. "I am visiting though, I was curious to see how everything changed after so much time." That much was true too, but it wasn't anything it could have been. He wasn't familiar with this area of the guild system back then, and in current day, surely multiple renovations happened. Still, the vibe was in the air and teams were running around exploring or doing their business. It was still nostalgic somehow. "I met with an old friend earlier. Now I'm just moving about." Anues' shoulders shrugged with his comment, as straight forward with it as it were simple. The psychic lightly pushed himself off the wall as he began to walk on, though slowly, so the Kirlia could keep up without too much effort. Not before a small gesture to follow at will, at least.
Not that he was going anywhere in particular, he just didn't enjoy being still for so long. "It is nice though. I actually worked in another building so I'm unfamiliar with this one." Which one went unsaid. There weren't any left but this one, after all. "I imagine it's a lot to take in. It certainly was for me."

Venari
Katherine & Arcturius

Katherine listened carefully to what he said. From the way he said it, it sounded like he was definitely quite a bit older than he looked. She wasn't quite sure exactly how old he was, since his looks and his words both failed to answer such a question, but he was certainly old. She wondered briefly exactly how she would feel so many years from now, looking back on the places and people she knew now. She didn't have any memories that were anywhere near as old as Anues sounded, nor did she have any old friends to meet back up with. She wondered what his friend was like. She was very much alone aside from her partner... which hardly fazed her. Realism would only temper her optimism, not destroy it.

But much more to the point, she wondered what exactly it was that he meant. "What do you mean 'how it changed'? I thought the guild was new?" She was confused. That was what she had heard, after all. As a traveler, she didn't know the history of the region at all.

"It is, in a sense." Anues frowned, recollecting his thoughts as he looked on ahead. "There was a similar system, a larger one, but it was abolished 25 years ago. There was the head guild known as Rebirth that played the role of overseer. There were five other branches connected to one another. This one here was one of them. " That was right. Katherine was young, wasn't she? What a strange point of view it was now, being the one explaining things. Honestly, he wasn't much of a talker to this day, but he encouraged curiosity in others. It was a good trait to have and use. "There was a decision made in Rebirth and it was decided maybe it didn't work out after all. Then that was the end of it. It seems someone decided otherwise, though. The leader now is actually the child of staff from the previous system." So it went, it seems. The psychic offered a brief smile at Katherine in contrast to his tone. He didn't agree with it, he genuinely didn't, but he wouldn't make it that apparent. Give the new generation some hope maybe. He didn't know why he insisted on it. It made him feel like some sort of messenger of death, but ripping the hearts of children out wasn't really his thing-- seemed more like Alfred's field.
"This isn't the second time though, I believe?" Anues wasn't entirely sure of himself on that part. The records in Rebirth went pretty far back, and for the most part his reading was simply because he could, but his memory was fuzzy more than anything. Either way, his point was this didn't just happen once. How she took that was entirely up to her.

Venari
Katherine & Arcturius

"I see..." She wasn't quite sure how to feel about that. It was a complex series of "what-if"s that was hard to keep under wraps. What if the guilds had been terrible? What if the new management was no good? What if it was all a bad idea? Yet, at the same time... what if they brought in the veterans? What if they learned from the past? What if the children of the older generation bore the fruits of their labour and knowledge? What if this is, possibly, something far better than she could have expected otherwise? It was a bad chain of thoughts to think about so she stopped them by shaking her head somewhat roughly. It was best not to dwell.

She didn't quite know what his last comment had meant but she had already decided to leave it be. It was time for her to get back to her walk, it would help her clear her head. "Do you think you'll be visiting the guild again later?" It was an almost awkward question but it was a question.

Visiting. What a heavy question.

The psychic stopped in his slow pace to take the question in in silence. There was no harm in it really, he wouldn't mind it if only to figure out what happened to a number of older members-- if anyone even knew that is, but finding out at all was the first step.
"... I suppose, yes." Anues stepped back and looked back down at the Kirlia. If he grew uncomfortable in the guild walls, he could always request meeting her elsewhere in the kingdom. If not just outside the guild itself. Mostly he preferred to just keep out of constant sight. "I'll be sure to let you know when I'm around next time." Psychics, how easy it was to exist.
