Thirty years ago, a young woman found herself pregnant and all alone. If she knew where the father of her child was, she wasn't going to tell. Her family seemed interested enough in her child, and convinced that it was a boy, she decided to name it Noah. However, the day the child was born, it was revealed that the child was a girl. Adamant that her child was going to be called Noah, that was the name that the girl was given.
For a few years, Noah and her mother lived with her grandparents. Amelia, the girl's mother went and found a job and soon had enough to purchase a townhouse. Noah was four when this happened and she could remember how excited her mother was to be out on her own. Noah was excited as well. Soon she would be starting school. However, Noah's excitement soon turned into something else.
Many of Noah's classmates would make fun of her name, calling it a boy's name. The girls would tell her she couldn't hang out with them because she had a boy's name and the boys wouldn't let her play with them because she was a girl. School was almost unbearable, except for one little girl. Her name was Charlotte Jay. The two girls first met when they realized that they shared a similar problem. Charlotte liked to be called Charlie, and Noah didn't know exactly where she fit in. And so, for the next few years they would spend all of their recesses together and would have several sleepovers together.
Toward the end of their middle school years, Charlie started expressing more of an interest in relationships. Noah didn't quite see the point. Sure, it would be nice to have someone to cuddle with and do cute things with, but she just wasn't so sure about kissing. Throughout high school, Noah would support Charlie as she went after boys and girls alike. It was during this that Noah met Liam Finn, a boy in her year. He was one of the few that didn't seem to be going girl crazy. Or any kind of crazy at that. The two ended up going to their senior prom together, just as friends, and had the time of their lives.
Of course, Noah, Charlie, and Liam all ended up splitting up when they went off to college. Liam ended up in Boston, Charlie stayed home, and Noah went out to Rochester. Amelia was so proud of her daughter, and stayed up with her on her last night home to give her advice. She didn't want her daughter to make the same mistakes that she had. Seeing it as being foolish, Noah only stayed up to appease her mother. In college, Noah studied to be a social worker.
Graduation was soon upon her, and shortly after, she found herself a job, and eventually she was asked to work on a case where the client kept talking something about aliens. That was when a group called Torchwood showed up. Noah was quite curious about them. She wanted to know why they seemed so unphased by the ideas that her client had presented. Since they weren't willing to answer any of her questions, Noah followed them to the tunnels where the old subway once was. She was amazed when they disappeared.
What was even more amazing was when the one who seemed to be in charge, a dark skinned woman named Addison Fior, came knocking on the door of her apartment. As if things couldn't get any more interesting, Addison told her everything about Torchwood that Noah wanted to know. They went out for some coffee, and after that, Noah couldn't remember anything about meeting Addison, but she could remember what had happened in the tunnel.
