Well to be more specific; How do you play the game?
I personally play a male and a female hunter. My male hunter tends to be melee oriented and my female hunter tends to be bow oriented. I will muddle it up for the female huntress because there are those times I need tail carves and back breaks and since I kick much of the a** with the IG, I tend to try and build a decent melee set for when I'm soloing offline for that. (Normally I just tend to stick to online if I need tails and make rooms to do it.)
When it comes to my male hunter, I am extremely aggressive once I have all 3 color buffs, without them I pretty much punish the monster with my kinsect until I can gather the needed colors.
My female hunter is also somewhat aggressive, but as I am nearing high/G online, I will have to build an Evasion+ set and kind of lax my ballsy play style. lol
I usually bypass bringing bombs/Bomb+'s and unneeded items (flash/sonic) since in this game, the Cephadrome hasn't shown itself as the douchebag it once was in the past titles (anyone who is a MH Vet understands how much of a b***h all that was...) and I tend to go out of my way to help the gaia guildies get their stuff done, but all I ask is that you pull your own weight and learn your class before sprinting into the online features.
Good luck and happy hunting!

I tend to take it one step at a time. The charge axe was new and I enjoyed it in the Demo so I've started with that. Usually, I'll stick with the one type and get a solid weapon and then start exploring the new armors and skills. That Derring armor was pretty good for awhile but like you said, you have to pull your weight on group hunts. The Nerscylla was a pretty fierce and It's a hunt I enjoy, so I imbued myself with it's likeness.
I move pretty slow when I play, just in it for the hunt itself so I always have traps, tranqs, flashbangs as a basic set up. The new feature of gear sets from your item box is pretty great. Those guild quests will add up nicely once I hit the G ranks if it still works like that.
On MH3U, I always enjoyed pair hunting. Gold and Silver was my go to quest. As well as conquering the cruel king of the sea. I'd have to say that I usually stick with the greatswords and hammers, Reddnaught was my pride.
I won't say that I've conquered every monster to perfection but I've always desired the hunt, so, I stick to what I know works!

I like to hit monsters fast and hard with dual swords. Not really into defense all that much but I have been trying to learn the lance. My style is to try and help others by doing lots of damage so the monster flinches or to target a part of its body as much as I can to cut/break it. Used to use the Long sword but it came off as too common back in the day so I stopped when dual swords came back.

I almost always go with a melee class hunter, specializing with dual swords, insect glaive, long swords, switch axes, and great swords.
I usually go with weapons where I don't necessarily defend but moreso dance around my foes JUST avoiding danger but punishing them as much as possible.
That said, I'm usually packing tons of potions in case I misplace my footing and a LOT of dash juice and demon drugs/armor skins.
I play ridiculously aggressive in order to match if not surpass a monster in destructive ability.
I'm down to hunt with anyone just try not to die in the chaos of the hunt. Unless were really close to winning I usually abandon and try again after two carts.
I'm not satisfied with a hunt unless we decimate our mark.

I almost exclusively use the Seregios LBG as its reload function completely fits with my playstyle.
I gear most of my sets focusing on its heavy dodging and normal shot capabilities.
Sometimes I use HBGs for large beasts for pierce shots.
I still need to work on using bow though...

My play style is about supporting the group as I now play primarily online since I hit G rank. I favor weapons that can inflict status ailments, and will always choose them over an elemental weapon provided I'm not trying to take down the dalamadur or dah'ren mohran
Since the inception of the insect glaive, I have been using that as my main melee weapon, and my favorite is the najarala paralysis glaive. Topple the monster by mounting and then paralyze it, giving the rest of the party a good 20 seconds to beat on whatever we're fighting. I choose my moments, not committing to an attack until I know I can do some damage.
I also love going ranged with a bow, specifically the dalamadur bow. It has pierce and rapid arrows types, doesn't need load up to grant the 4th charge level, has blast with awakening, and can use pretty much every coating type. I gemmed in power coating usage because that can mean a lot of extra damage. Laying down consistent damage, causing staggers with blasts, and inflicting any type of status the group needs, I try my best to make sure everyone else has an easier time doing their job on a hunt.

I've been usually aggressive, but can easily switch into a defensive mode with any monster given a situation. As a lance user, I try to get those mounts in via jump charge ( when there's no insect glaives with me ) to either help give everyone time, or to stop a monster dead in its action before it finishes someone off. After some practice, I hardly hit anyone unless they run directly in front of me right as I start. If I have a good reflex.. I just jump over them and keep on target. Being a guard lancer, I do prioritize my guard skills over anything else. Being able to block and counter those hits and stay in the monster's face lets me deal consistent damage and possibly even keep its attention while others set up up or re-position. Heck, to ensure there's little to no carts, I'll go out of my way to pop lifepowders to keep my comrades up and kicking rather than have to flee or even worse end up carting from a combo. I'll admit I'm quick to jump to using those however, if I see someone below half HP. And also with some projectile attacks... a well places counter or shield advance + bash and a couple of stabs will make a monster regret its action. Even roars just give me free hits due to a counter-stab... so long as I'm facing the correct direction and don't get hit by a stray foot stepping forward...
to be honest I've been considering purposely getting the negative version of the stealth skill just to draw more aggro from the monster and keep it off everyone else for their benefit of getting hits in. My big shield's there for a reason. I can take it... and deal it right back...

I don't really have a style. I just pick a weapon, and work with it really. Though if I'm pissed, I fall back to the hammer, because bashing faces in is fun.
