No text that read, 'We need to talk,' could ever be anything good, Jett was certain. Naturally, he expected the worst, and after a few more exchanged texts, he had promised to meet his fiance that evening, at her place.

It was a good thing they had going; he was happy. He saw her almost every day--she got to live where she wanted, he did his thing in Destiny City, and they met up afterwards. A phone kept them together by day, and a quick Mirrorwalk by night. It was the best of both worlds.

...Until that text.

Jett couldn't tell if it was good news or bad news, but he was there for Raven for either.

The second he had gotten off of work, he had Mirrorwalked out of the store. He hadn't even bothered to drive home, just left his car in the building's parking lot. Immediately after Walking to Raven's living room, he powered down. That was the rule; time here was for them, not the Court. The only reason he needed to be powered up around here was to get to and from her home to his.

"Rave?" he called, announcing his entrance when he arrived. Briefly he wondered if he should have brought flowers or chocolate or something very shiny. "I'm here, you home yet?"

Raven was indeed there, and she was indeed ready to have this conversation with Jett…truth be told, she should have had it over two weeks ago when she first found out…but hey. There was no way to turn back the clock on that, now was there.

“I’m coming, Jett. Hang on.”

She came out of the bedroom, tying her hair into a sloppy bun on top of her head. In all honesty, she wasn’t dressed for…impressing anyone. All she was in right now was an old, worn out pair of sweatpants and an oversized tee shirt that she had stolen from Jett ages ago.

“So. Yes. You’re here, and I’m here. So now, we talk. I have something to say, and I’m not sure that you’re going to like it, but I just…it’s bothering me. Jett, when we get married, am I really expected to become Raven Draven…because…come on, Jett. That is insane. I want you to take my last name…because…I don’t want to have rhyming names! I mean…It’ll end up that I’ll be Raven Never Draven…what kind of a joke is that, Jett. My parents were fools. Fools I tell you.”

The blonde walked over to him and hugged him swiftly, kissing his cheek gently before flopping onto her couch, giving the most pathetic look she could muster.

Clearly this was a true issue. A very true issue. The worst issue.

For a long moment, Jett stared at Raven. It wasn’t just the words that had him caught up, it was that she wasn't dolled up like she usually was—oh, and that's where his shirt was—and…what was she going on about?

"…We've been putting off setting a date because you were worried about being Mrs. Raven Draven?" he asked slowly; a smile was tugging at his lips.

…On one hand, he'd never thought about it. He was in a position where he'd never really had to consider his last name changing. He supposed he was always going to be Jett Draven forever, and he had never really thought there was anything weird with Raven Draven. Of course, he thought it was sort of cute, but he might have been a bit biased.

His arm hooked around her and he pulled her close as he settled down on the couch next to her. He planted a kiss on her cheek, returning the one she had given him a second ago. "…I don't know if I could be Jett Moore." He played with the name for a moment in his head, and then repeated, "Jet More. It sounds like an advertisement to take more commercial flights. Maybe if I was a pilot, I could. But," he debated with himself for a while more. "Draven is a good last name."

His lip twitched when the sentence left his mouth; the Draven family line wasn't particularly one he was closely associated with, and the only full blooded Draven had left a lasting, but unpleasant, impact on Jett's mind.

He almost seemed to regret speaking the words and had to force himself to continue, "…I mean, it sounds good. Nice, strong name. Lasting impression. Good for business."

“Well. I sort of figured that you’d say something like that, so I’ve made a little list of different names…I mean, I don’t have much of a love for the name of Moore, so we can do whatever, but legit, Jett. I can’t be Raven Draven. You know my middle name is Never. I mean. Come on, love. We have to compromise. So, how about some awkward conversion of the too? Like…Moorven? Or Draymore? Or something simple like that?”

She kicked her feet in the air, watching him. “Honestly, love. That excuse though, good for business, that’s bullshit and you know it. Besides, I don’t want our baby to have a mom with such a name. I mean come on, when Chloe’s peers find out her mother is named Raven Draven, it’ll be awful. And the teachers! We have to think of her school life, Jett. She’ll be traumatized. I can’t have that. I just can’t. We just can’t. Bulling is a real thing now a days, and I can’t be the reason she gets picked on and harassed! You can’t ask that of meeeeeeeeeeeee.”

This was a new kind of argument. There was no anger, just the best and most deadly pout she could force on her face. Channel your inner puppy, Raven, channel it. You can do it. Wear him down.

Jett had a weakness for puppies, even if he didn't want to admit it, and he kept stroking the small of her back as she spoke.

Neither of them seemed to have a particular attachment to their last name, and it might have been easier to focus on choosing some smashed up combination of their last name if she hadn't started talking about Chloe.

It had immediately perked Jett's interest when she mentioned the girl he remembered from those dreams, but it just seemed so out of place. "…Isn't it a little premature to be using a child as an excuse for something like a name change?" his voice was light, teasing, and the faintest smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

He didn't even know if there was a child in their future, much less Chloe.

Things were so much different now from the future they had seen, but Raven must have been playing her cards right; she knew how attached he was, even now, to a girl that only theoretically existed in the future.

Raven gave a little laugh. “A little premature…? I mean, if she came out now, she’d be really, really premature…but come October or something…I’m not really sure when…she’ll be perfect, you know?”

The blonde snuggled closer to Jett and sighed contentedly. “By the way, love. We're having a baby. So. Surprise. That was my real news, but I figured I better get my concerns out there…you know, about the last name. Because I coulnd’t stop thinking about it for the past four days or so, so you know it’s been terribly important…So, what do you say, Jett…compromise? I kind of like Draymore…to be completely honest.”

Jett opened his mouth to respond, but nothing came out. No words—no thoughts, it was like everything just froze. And then it was like an avalanche.

His eyes went from her face, to her stomach and then back again; his brows were knit and his lips pursed tightly before he opened his mouth, floundered for words, and then finally managed, "What?"

It wasn't the most intelligent response, and he had to struggle, in an attempt to further expand on his thoughts, not to just repeat the word, as if by doing so he would be granted more clarity.

"Dray—Draymore sounds fine, what do you…a baby? You're certain? One hundred percent positive? Like, for sure, you know?" He lifted his hand like he wanted to touch her stomach—like there would be some magical difference that he would now be able to sense.

He looked concerned—but he seemed so hopeful.

Raven looked back at him, unable to stop a giggle from escaping. “Oh. I wish you could see your face right now, Jett. It’s adorable. And I wish I could just freeze time for like a second to get a camera…and yeah. I’m pretty sure. I took about ten tests just to be totally sure…and I’m going to the doctors tomorrow just to get a real opinion…so…so…”

She snuggled closer. “So you have to call off tomorrow so you and I can go see if the take home tests are as accurate as they claim to be, and we can get the plan as how to best move forward…because…I don’t know. I’ve gotten some books, but I just…couldn’t concentrate on reading them…I just wanted to tell you. I’m so glad I have…But Jett, what if it’s not a girl? What if it’s not Chloe?”

She didn’t know what to do if it wasn’t her daughter she had seen in those dreams…or whatever they had been…

All she wanted was her little Chloe. …Not that she would love any other child any less, she just…knew what she wanted. And that was her daughter. Their daughter.

Jett was nodding along with whatever she said; it didn't all make sense, but he knew that it would all make sense. Ten tests, take off of work tomorrow…yeah—that all sounded good, that all made sense.

Chloe's name shook him out of his confusion, and even though he was overhwlmed with possibilities, it allowed him a moment of clarity.

"…Then we'll love it all the same. I don't…I don't know what the future holds, Raven, but I've never been one to trust Fate, or Destiny. I think you make your own future, and there's no telling what's in store. And…" He reached over to take her hand. "…Chloe or not, it's your baby—our baby," —he nearly fumbled over the words— "And we'll do whatever we can to take care of it. I mean—right? And we'll take care of it, and love it, and…"

His whole brain was scrambled; the clarity was lost and he still seemed flustered, but one thing was very clear—he loved Raven, with all his heart.

And he might have had reservations about being a father, and he might have worried about doing the wrong thing, or making the same mistakes his father had.

But he loved Raven, and he would love any child they had together.

Raven was beaming. There was nothing right now that could go wrong, Jett was okay with this, or at least he seemed okay with this now…oh she was just…ready for all of this.

“I figure…maybe I should come home, Jett…My lease is going to be going for a few more months…but I’m sure I can find someone who wants to sublet this place…so…so I should come home. We should start thinking about…I don’t know. Getting a place with an extra room for the baby? Oh Jett…I just can’t wait. I really can’t wait. I’m so excited…”

She flopped a little, trying to just get closer to Jett. “So…You’ll be fine with changing out name to Draymore? I think it sounds good, Jett, Raven and Chloe Draymore…it fits well, and it’s the best of both of us.”

Jett was fumbling with plans already but he nodded. His arm stretched a bit so he could curl it protectively around her; he wanted her as close to him as possible. Changing his last name...wasn't something he had ever really thought about, but it seemed like such a small thing to do if it meant they were that much closer to being a family.

Thoughts kept coming and going, and it seemed like there were things he wanted to say, but every time he opened his mouth another thought chased his words away. Finally, he was just smiling and nodded. "That sounds like a good idea. We can take some time off, even just a few days...go house shopping. --Tell Mom, we have to let her know."

....She would be so excited. Of course, he had kept her a bit out of the loop; he didn't exactly have a way to explain how Raven could be out in California working but he still saw her daily, so if he didn't want her asking questions he didn't want to tell her the answers to, he had to lie a bit.

"And your parents," he blurted after a few seconds. And their friends. And everyone. But one thing kept buzzing on his mind when he thought of Jett, Raven and Chloe Draymore.

Jett leaned over and kissed Raven's temple. "...That kid's gonna have a hell of a time if it winds up being a boy this time around."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 22, 2015 10:44 pm

Raven just blinked up at Jett and laughed, the sound lasting a good long time. Everything was going to be perfect. They were actually agreeing on everything…and if really the only issue that they were facing was that the baby might turn out to be a boy…well.

That was something they would just have to deal with in a few months. For now…for now they just had to enjoy one another….and tomorrow…well. Things would progress from there.

She was really ready for everything. She was ready to just start her life…for real.
This was it. This was everything.
