Guildmaster Veilmys

"Yes? What can I help you with?"

The guildmaster's office is located not to far from the guild entrance. It is a quaint and orderly little room with an ornate tea set situated by the door for guests.
Veilmys can usually be found in this area doing paperwork or simply enjoying the company of his associates who can also usually be found here if needed.

The Sylveon doesn't mind company in the slightest so don't hesitate to knock if you wish to speak to him or any of the others for any reason at all!

Claudius

When it was over--when the deed was done and the village was burned and the clean-up teams dispatched--Claudius allowed himself to stop for a moment and process everything that had happened. The resulting conflict pierced through his weariness and kept him from sleep; so the Aurorus dragged his tired body from the bed, making his way to the one person he knew he could talk to. He'd tried the Sylveon's room beforehand, as it was late and most of the Guild was asleep, but he'd received no response for his knocking and he found the door to be locked when he'd tried the handle. It was possible Veilmys was asleep, and that his efforts were fruitless from that point on, but there was still one place left for him to check.

Claudius made his way to the main entrance, taking care to walk slowly so his footsteps wouldn't rouse any members from their slumber. The moonlight trickling in through the windows bounced off his icy form and lit up the path, but the Aurorus was far too disheartened to notice; he knew the way quite well, but he'd never imagined it could seem so long. When he arrived at the door the Aurorus knocked, and waited wordlessly in the dim light. Although he hated to disturb the Sylveon if he was still working this late, Claudius didn't know what else to do.

The quiet shuffling of paper that had once filled the room had fallen silent mere moments before the knocking sounded. In a strained but otherwise pleasant voice the guildmaster's greeting rang out with alarming clarity despite the current time.
"The door is open!"
Once in the room Claudius would not be given the Sylveon's immediate attention just yet, his blue eyes were focused on the tea set neatly spread across a small table near his desk and his ribbons were wound around the kettle as he poured the steaming water into a cup.
Only after he filled his own and set it, steaming, atop his desk did he turn to the larger Pokemon with a smile; genuinely happy to see him.
"Claudius, excellent timing. Tea doesn't taste as good when you drink alone. Fancy a cup?" Even as he asked he was already pouring, his ribbons gracefully dipping back down to the kettle to fill another cup.
A free ribbon gestured for the other to come in and take a seat.
"I just received your earlier report on the Fairy Woods, glad we got that settled. I'd have never guessed the place had a cult-like clan existing in it." He was pleased it had been dealt with before another team stumbled into it.
He lifted the cup thoughtfully to his lips before placing another before the Auroras.
"We've only just begun and you already look dead on your feet. Sit. Stay. That's an order~"

Claudius

Claudius opened the door at his friend's words, stepping in and closing it behind him without a word. Veilmys had sounded somewhat frazzled, but he seemed fully engrossed in his tea at the moment, so the Aurorus let him be, waiting patiently for his presence to be acknowledged. "Tea sounds lovely, thank you," Claudius said, his exhaustion seeping into his tone. Still, Veilmys would receive a friendly smile in return as he always did; Claudius firmly believed that one should never forfeit the chance to show others that they matter in your eyes. Following the Sylveon's gesture, he stepped forward into the room and took a seat on the large cushion that was kept here for his visits, allowing himself to relax a bit now that he was in good company.

Listening to Veilmys' comment, he sighed, the memories flooding back. Ver had no restraints when it came to doing his job, which meant that it all had been done quickly and efficiently, but with a good deal of blood and fire--neither of which the Aurorus was particularly fond of. "Yes, it's been dealt with," he said wearily. "It's a terrible set of circumstances really. Ritualistic Pokemon sacrifices haven't been heard of in a while. I hate to think they're cropping up again." It could have been a fluke of course, but the Aurorus would be on the lookout all the same: it was just as possible that there were more situations like this, where the ritual had gone unreported because they had yet to discover its area of original. "I'll update the maps tomorrow of course," he added as an afterthought, never one to lapse on his duties, "I was just too distracted to do so this evening."

Bending his neck down to sip his tea, Claudius savored the feeling of the warm liquid as it traveled down his throat, its flavorful taste giving him a much-needed boost of energy. He looked up at Veilmys sheepishly, from his vantage point so near the teacup that rested on the table in front of him, but nodded once he'd straightened up again. "Very well," he said, too tired to retort to his friend's gentle jibe. "Truth be told I'm not sure I'd be able to go anywhere else at the moment." With a sigh, the Aurorus bent down to take another sip of his tea. When he raised his head again it was only slightly, so that he remained on eye level with his Sylveon companion. "Veilmys, I fear I may have done something terribly wrong today. I was wondering if you might help me work through it." His friend was remarkably astute, and skilled at managing emotions, Claudius knew this well, so it only made sense that he should speak to Veilmys about this sort of thing.

"I'm honestly surprised this is the first real issue we've come across. I had expected an onslaught of them all at once." Given how fractured their region was it wouldn't have surprised him if missions came rolling in nonstop the second they opened their doors. Veil nodded courteously at the comment regarding the map. It was no big deal if it took a few days for them to be updated as the duty itself fell on Claudius alone. He made a mental note to get them another cartographer to help the Aurorus.
As the larger Pokemon continued to speak in a somewhat bothered manner he lifted his gaze from the tea he was sipping and set the cup down to give him his undivided attention.
"Wrong? I highly doubt that, but do go on...I'd be happy to help."

Claudius

Claudius nodded. "Oh yes, I've no doubt there's much that we've yet to discover. Our problems are only just beginning, but that was to be expected." He'd expected tyrants, regimes, bounty hunters and their breed. Sacrifices though--the very thought was unsettling to the Aurorus. When a culture's ideology grew so warped that its members turned to murder as a sign of good fortune...that was something far more troubling than a Pokemon who did such things for power or because he lacked morals. For those circumstances to take place, it required that the members of the group no longer recognized the evil in their actions--a truly terrifying thought indeed.

A heavy sigh was the only precursor to his explanation, which he continued into without ceremony. "The Team who brought me that mission, Venari they're called...we had a bit of a confrontation before I acquired their assistance." The more he looked back on it the more he agonized over the situation; there had to have been something he could have done, something that would have made things right in the end, or something that would have kept it from going so wrong. "I went to request their help in leading us to the village, and in the process of explaining the situation I seem to have earned their hatred for my actions." He shook his head, staring into his tea. "Arturius, the Honedge who went with us, continued to insist that I had acted improperly in my role as a leader of the Guild, even after I explained the situation to him as thoroughly and logically as I could manage; although she didn't say anything to that respect, his partner clearly shared the opinion." Claudius' tone was regretful, but also bitter--a rare color for his usually gentle voice. "In the end it was only a waste of time to try and work it out after all, and now I fear I have little chance of regaining any of the respect they may have had for me." The Aurorus looked up to meet Veilmys' eyes, his own dark with uncertainty, searching for guidance. "What sort of a leader earns the hostility of his subordinates from the moment he meets them?" Claudius asked, heart heavy, "A leader should command respect from those he leads, and be worthy of that respect. ...Now it would seem I'm down on both counts, at least in one Team's eyes." But one Team was just as important as any other, and he valued each member equally: losing the chance to form a good working relationship with two of them was utterly devastating.

A soft, tittering laugh rose up from the Sylveon and he stifled it with his ribbons, attempting to quickly recompose himself.
"Oh Claudius, of course. Of course, you would be upset. I don't mean to belittle your feelings but this is just so YOU."
Veilmys brushed a ribbon into the corner of his eye to wipe it, tears having built up from the sudden and most hysterical laughter that threatened to overtake him.
"My dear friend, I understand your plight but we can't very well guarantee every member of this guild will like us. All that matters is they obey us when the time comes otherwise they are acting insubordinate and must be punished."
The Fairy type smiled wryly, retrieving the kettle next to his desk and refilling his glass that he had spilled slightly during his giggle fit before, a free ribbon was wiping up the bit of tea with a pale rag.
"You acted as you should have. You dealt with the situation and it has been resolved. That in itself is reason enough why you were chosen above so many others to be placed in this position. That this team disagreed with you does not matter as I am more than pleased with the results.
Could we have acted more swiftly? Yes, but that in itself is tricky business when it comes to the guilds position outside of our own territory. Many places do not see the guilds as a useful entity but a thorn in their sides. Could we have handled this with more care and less aggression? Yes, but sometimes one must pluck a few flowers to get to the weeds."

Veilmys tipped his cup back up to his lips, peering at the Aurorus from over the edge of the rim with both mischievous blue eyes.
"While I respect the opinion of our members it is THEY who joined under the understanding they would submit to our decisions as the right course of action. If this team causes you grief tell them I will gladly explain to them what it is they are here for and direct them to the door should they decide their opinions and beliefs far outweigh those of their superiors."
It was not with any sort of arrogance he spoke but pure fact. Whether any of the teams liked it or not the guild worked in a system based around there being designated 'leaders' and the decisions made by those leaders would be considered the correct decision unless otherwise proven wrong.
Claudius had gotten the job done. The means to the end were irrelevant in this situation. Were lives lost? Yes, but it had been of those who retaliated. Ver had been given strict orders to removes the stone and have the cultists brought in alive, but they had resisted most violently.
On their own side there had been no casualties and while the loss of life in general was mourned the Sylveon would be lying if he said he grieved for those who would unjustly cause harm to others.

Claudius

The Aurorus stared at his friend, a baffled expression on his face when the Sylveon began to laugh. He'd expected a reprimand or at least a frown for what he'd done: the grin on Veilmys' face was entirely unexpected. Claudius opened his mouth to say something, half-concerned that his friend was a tad delirious from exhaustion, but quickly closed it when the Fairy Type recovered enough to explain himself; he listened quietly through the whole speech, expression inscrutable as he did his best to comprehend what he was being told. What Veilmys described was an odd concept for the Aurorus--who treasured interpersonal relationships enough to devote a part of his life to them. Of course he recognized the lack of necessity for a rapport between a figure of authority and their subordinates on some level, but it had never occurred to him that he would be the type of person to have to work under those conditions. Then again, it was rather foolish of him to have expected to be liked by every member of the Guild, and perhaps it was better that it had happened sooner rather than later; it hurt more now to be certain, but if it was later he may have had a harder time seeing things the way Veilmys explained them now. It was hardly a stroke of good fortune, but at least it could be worked into a positive light.

Pausing to take a long sip of his tea, Claudius processed it all for a long moment before he sighed, giving a somber nod in the Sylveon's direction. "I suppose you're right... It may be I was being rather too idealistic." He looked up to meet Veilmys' gaze, with an expression of heartfelt gratitude, "But your support means a great deal to me. I appreciate it more than I can say." It may have been the exhaustion, but he was feeling rather sentimental; he had no intention of making a show of it however, diverting his thoughts down a different path. The Aurorus hazarded a half-smile, a spark of light returning to his eyes as he returned Veilmys' mischievous glance: "If my Guildmaster is pleased, then I am pleased." It was a gentle jibe, using the title without reason, but also a sign that Claudius was recovering from his crestfallen state: he knew he'd been right to come here.

"And if my Eminence of Exploration is well then I am well." Veilmys jibbed back, setting his tea aside to lace his ribbons together in thought before laughing and gesturing to the mounds of paperwork he had to see to.
"If that is all, my friend, then perhaps you can put forth some of this steely determination to assist me with the last of our recruitment forms before Serrin kicks down my door and threatens me?"
The Ivysaur had such good intentions but it was taking some time getting use to the fact that the Sylveon was not at all like his father before him.
He did his paperwork fine on his own, without the need for Vine Whips trouncing his backside.

Claudius

"Of course." Claudius responded without hesitation, noting with a bit of concern just how much paperwork his friend had left. Finishing off his tea in a few more sips, the Aurorus allowed the warm liquid to revitalize him and give him the energy necessary to assist in the sizable amount of tedious work ahead of them. At the very least it would be done in good company, which would make the time go faster, and afterwards? Afterwards he could catch up on the sleep that he was so sorely lacking.

((And a closing we can have. ^ ^))
