Keivera hadn't been able to help herself. The thought of exploring intrigued her. The possibility to be able to do this all the time was even better. She had always been curious, so when she got the opportunity to try and get into the Eclipse Guild she jumped at the opportunity. This would be something that would open a multitude of doors for her, and she would be able to learn. Not only that, but she would be learning things from the very best there was. This was a dream come true. All she had to do was retrieve that bow for the guild master. How hard could it be?

The eerie bog was certainly deserving of it's name. The light mist had rolled in just as she had entered this place. The water was so high in places that it came up to her belly. It was spring, currently so her presently pink backside was a stark contrast to the dark murky water, hanging vines, lily pads, moss, and algae. Luckily, it was still rather early. Her hope was that there wouldn't be quite a many pokemon out and about this early, but she'd been wrong before.

As she finished sloshing through part of the bog and reached a position to pull herself back up on dry land, she signed in relief. She shook some of the water out of her fur, but there was still some minor bits of algae clinging to her. Where could that bow be? The bog was big, and there were many places the guild master could have hidden it. Keivera resigned herself to continue her search, but at least she was out of the water for now. However, her satisfaction at coming this far would be short lived. She was being watched. In a nearby tree on the opposite bank behind her there lurked a ghost in the shadows. Slowly, a Misdreavus floated out of the tree and began to follow her as she began to follow the bank.

Keivera's hooves sank easily into the mud along the bank and made a suction sound with each and every step. Even still, things were quiet, too quiet almost. Suddenly there was a flash of light overhead. She closed her eyes to keep from peering at the bright light, but it was too late. She quickly became very unsteady on her feet, and ran awkwardly straight into the trunk of a tree. Why did she feel funny? Why was her vision blurred?

With the surprise confuse ray having been a success, the Misdreavus came into the open and shot a psybeam at her. Keivera saw the psybeam coming, and though she wanted to jump back to unleash her own blinding sand-attack, she couldn't. Instead, she clumsily fell over and splashed back down into the water that she'd just pulled herself out of moments before. The psybeam had missed, but that was just sheer luck. As the Misdreavus came back around for another attack, she tried to get her footing and ended up falling back over. Quickly, Misdreavus his her with astonish hard. For a moment she was stunned. She could do nothing.

Finally, after she quit seeing stars, she was back to her full senses. Her confusion was gone. She wasn't going to let the Misdreavus know that though, so as it came back around to give her another smack, she quickly turned on her front legs and double kicked the Misdreavus in the face. Sure, it wasn't very effective, but it caught her enemy off guard. Using this time to her advantage, Keivera got back up on dry land. Now it was time for payback. Before the Misdreavus could attack her again, she kicked some sediment from the edge of the bank straight into the face of her foe. This should help improve her chances of getting away, but she wanted to be sure; as the Misdreavus continued to try and launch an attack, she kept hitting it with her sand-attack. Her goal wasn't to make her enemy feint, but just blind it enough for the moment so that it could no longer pursue her.

After hitting the Misdreavus several times square in the face with sand, Keivera felt comfortable enough to run. As she fled the scene, she saw the Misdreavus trying to pursue, but without being able to see clearly, it was wandering off at an angle instead of straight at her. She had been successful.

Thankfully, after running for several minutes she lost sight of her foe completely. She let out a sigh of relief as she came to a halt. She needed a moment to catch her breath. She couldn't let this stop her though. The battle may have been tiring, but she couldn't leave till after she had found that ribbon. With her breathing steadied, she began to walk again and headed due north, further into the bog.

Almost two hours passed by without incident. Then, as she was beginning to curse her luck, she spotted it – a viridian bow nestled in the bough of a tree just across the water. How was she going to get up there? What was she thinking? That was silly, she could simply knock it down. Jumping across a few rocks in her way, Keivera stopped at the foot of the tree and looked up to where the bow was perched. Her double kick should shake the tree enough. Without another thought, she turned on her front legs and let out a flurry of double kicks. Sure enough, this was enough to knock it out of the tree.

Happy at the prospect of finding the bow, Keivera lowered her head and picked the bow up in her mouth. Now she could head home and present the Guild Master with the retrieved bow.

Just as she was turning to leave, a Weedle crawled out of the tree, very angry. Apparently it had been napping in the tree. Oops! Without waiting to see what the angry bug would do she ran. She would run all the way back to the guild. Where there was a Weedle, there was sure to be Beedrill and she did not want to mess with those. Poison and bug moves could seriously hurt her, and besides, she had what she came for. She didn't need to stick around any longer.

Veilmys

The viridian bow was accepted with a long, snaking ribbon from the Deerling's mouth and Veilmys smiled as he examined it to verify it was one of his.
The scent of the bog was evident in the room now, a musky, wet smell that might have been disgusting had it not been masked with the sweeter scent of the tiny Grass type before him. Grass type in general tended to have such pleasant scents about them~
"Congratulations, this is exactly what I asked for. You may have the bow as a gift from the guild." He returned it, as well as a slim cardboard card, "And this is your partner voucher, with this you may go and be assigned a partner for your team! We welcome you as a Rank One member of the Guild of Eclipse!"

Keivera beamed. She was delighted to be welcomed into the guild. "Thank you Guild Master Veilmys! I'll do my very best to make you proud, sir!" Taking the viridian ribbon back, she smiled and bowed her head. Then, turned to head out to see who her partner would be. She was extremely excited about this opportunity. She planned to make the best of it.

Mercy - Peter

“Mercy, given that this is our last chance to turn back before we get to the bog, I want to warn you again that this is not advisable!” Peter, generally so usually calm and stoic, appeared to be increasingly flustered with every passing moment. In contrast, the Luxio who had been so irritable over the last few days, was now completely placid, her pointed tail swaying in the breeze ever so slightly. Peter continued on, now extremely perturbed by his Captain’s unfazed cheerfulness.

This… This couldn’t be Mercy deliberately trying to put him in harm’s way, right? He hadn’t offended her too greatly- even if she was still irritated with him over his accidental offense, purposefully bringing him on a mission where there was a good chance of him being injured was… Excessive.

And it was true- in the bog there would be no hope for him if Mercy attempted to injure him. Surrounded by water and with an already evolved Pokemon, Peter doubted his chances of survival. The Charmander shivered, and his teal flame wavered along with his resolution.

Mercy was trotting along, without a single care in the world. Peter squinted his eyes. Mercy was… Surprisingly capricious. The Luxio didn’t look like much at first glance, but he could tell that there were some underlying issues. Hopefully they wouldn’t be brought to the surface on this mission.

Peter winced sharply as he felt the ground turn from the grassy plains to the soggy earth. The change in texture was immediate, and the Fire Type felt a shiver go down his spine. Yes, he would most definitely despise this mission. Fortunately, it didn’t appear that it would take that long- they were just being sent to check on a lake. (It would have been nice if the client had been willing to share the exact whereabouts of the lake.

The pair were suddenly disturbed by a small onset of rain. Peter immediately let off a high-pitched shriek that sent Mercy hissing. The Charmander twisted his body around to provide coverage for his tail- he wouldn’t let the flame die, not while he was so young, and especially since it was only his first mission. He still had so much to give back to the world.

Mercy had bared her teeth, and was apparently growling loudly at the source of the rain. Peter opened his eyes just a fraction of the inch to squint at what Mercy had cornered. He was surprised to find a singular pokemon- a Rain Form Castform. The rain that had come on so suddenly was now gone, and it was obvious that the Weather Pokemon had been manipulating it.

“What the hell was that? Why would you just-” Mercy hissed at the Castform, already exhasperated.

The raindrop-shaped Pokemon appeared to remain expressionless, in sharp contrast to Team Iris. “You’ll want to stay out of the bog when the Court convenes.” Peter felt his eyeball twitch. He had expected some Pokemon to be unhelpful, but there always had to be a riddle-giver, didn’t there?

Mercy didn’t react well to the Castform’s comment, swiping at it with her paw, her claws extended. The swipe met its mark, but only briefly. The Castform let out a perturbed noise, and rose up from where it had hovered in front of them. If an artificial cloud was capable of looking pissed off, then that was definitely the expression on its face. Peter turned to look at Mercy, somewhat irritated but unwilling to show it. “Perhaps we should continue on.” He didn’t particularly feel like leading them on further into the bog, so it was a small blessing when Mercy finally got moving. Perhaps it wouldn’t be as bad as they were expecting.
---

The terrain was now positively disgusting. Peter could feel his feet sinking into the disgustingly damp earth, and he found himself trying to take quicker steps. Mercy seemed perturbed as well, but was taking better to the change than he was. The air was getting colder, and with the amount of clouds in the sky, Peter could only hope that it wasn’t going to rain. This time, there would be no Castform controlling it- they couldn’t threaten anyone into fixing the weather. Peter would have to find shelter- and he wasn’t entirely sure if Mercy would entirely agree to that.

He could sense that Mercy was slowing down, but he couldn’t exactly tell why until the Electric Type leaned over to him to speak. Peter tensed up ever so slightly. “There are two Pokemon up ahead. A Ledian and a Heracross.” The Electric Type seemed to be very wary of them, which was good. Peter had heard the story of her blind charges from her first mission in the Fairy Woods. Perhaps she was shaping up a bit? The fact that she could move so quietly when she tried was almost unnerving.

The two went to approach the Bug Type Pokemon, Peter trying to keep up with the long strides that his captain was taking. His short legs could only move so quickly, and Mercy had the advantage of being on all fours. Not that he was jealous that all of her paws were touching the damp ground, but still. Speed was of the essence at this point. Not that the mysterious object in the lake would likely move- but they needed to work fast.

The two Bug Types only came into view after a minute’s walk. Mercy’s extended sight was a small blessing. She was a predator after all- Peter had done some research on the Luxio clans before going on the mission as a precaution, and they were renowned hunters. They weren’t generally solo animals, though. But, Mercy was a town Pokemon, so perhaps this would turn out differently.

The two Bug Types had taken notice of them at this point, and had turned to face Team Iris. Peter swallowed slightly, noting the size of the Heracross, and the particularly nasty looking Ledian. The flying bug was the first to greet the pair, for the very loose definition of ‘greet’. “I should warn you, no visitors are to be allowed in the Eerie Bog right now. The Court is convening, and we will not stand for meddlers.”

Mercy was about to speak when Peter accidentally cut off his leader. “We’ve heard this Court mentioned before. We promise not to meddle in whatever is going on here- we’re Treasure Hunters from the Guild, you see. We’ve been commissioned to go and search for something in one of the lakes in this area of the Bog.”

The Ledian glanced down at them, her mouth tightening. “You are both young. Youth can bring recklessness, and we cannot have any interlopers in the Bog while the Court convenes. Leave now, and return in a week’s time.” The Ledian turned up her nose, going to resume her post with the Heracross.

Peter (though he would never admit it) was almost relieved. This was an excuse to turn back, to leave the marsh for now. He could convince Mercy to at least leave him exempt from the mission this time around. The Charmander was just about to turn tail and quietly traipse home when he noticed fire gathering in Mercy’s mouth.

Peter managed to call out a “No!” just in time for the Ledian to turn and see Mercy lunging at her with a Fire Fang. The Bug Type’s eyes widened, but she couldn’t move to avoid the hit. The Ledian guard let out a loud Screech, causing Mercy to flinch. Peter looked on in horror, but managed to collect himself just enough to use Ember, providing more burns to the Bug Type.

The Ledian was down for the count when Peter turned to see the Heracross charging. He yelled, and Mercy let out a Growl, distracting the Heracross ever so slightly. Unfortunately, the tackle hit Mercy head-on, carrying the Electric Type through the Bog along with the assailant. Peter sprinted to catch up to his Captain.

By the time that he reached them, Mercy was in full-on combat. The lion Pokemon lunged out, doing as much damage as she could without being hurt. The Heracross was as powerful as it got, but it was lacking in agility. Peter managed to distract the Bug and Fighting Pokemon just long enough to use Scratch. Fortunately for him, Mercy used the opening to finish off the large bug with a well-placed Spark. With both guards down for the count, they could proceed.

Unfortunately, they had no time to relax. The Screech had alerted some of the other guards, and they were beginning to charge in their direction. Mercy turned to Peter, ashes falling out of her mouth as she spoke. “You need to get on my back. Right now, Peter.” The Charmander was just about to describe the technicalities of that, and the numerous issues, but then closed his mouth. Mercy was already irritated- he didn’t want the Luxio to turn on him as well. Peter scrambled onto the Luxio’s back, gripping her fur tightly to avoid falling off.

Mercy was moving fast- faster than Peter could’ve moved on normal terrain. Perhaps it was a blessing that she had told him to climb on board. The other guards were beginning to catch up, and thinking fast the small Charmander fired off a Smokescreen. The smoke spread quickly, and before long there was a large cloud around the two. Peter could sense Mercy trying to steer herself through the smoke.

Fortunately, due to the fact that Mercy didn’t have to slow down for him, the two were soon far away from the guards. Unfortunately, they still had no idea as to where they had to go.

The day was beginning to fade, the sun beginning to set on the horizon. The dark clouds were only slightly tinged pink, creating a dismal air. Peter hoped that they would be able to finish this up quick. He was so taken with the sky that he barely noticed that Mercy had come to a halt. “You can hop off, now.”

“Huh? Oh, yes. My apologies, Mercy.” The grey and teal Charmander slid off of his captain’s back. “Thank you for that.” He attempted a small smile, and the Luxio regarded him strangely. Peter turned away, slightly cowed by his partner’s judging look. She had a talent for making him feel unnerved- that was for sure.

Then, very abruptly, it began to rain. Peter groaned, and turned to his Captain. “We need to find a place for shelter. My tail…” He indicated towards the teal flame, as if it wasn’t already clear. Mercy nodded, and began to walk across the bog.

A loud cooing noise emanated over the Eerie Bog, causing both members of Team Iris to turn their heads sharply. “Did you hear-” The cooing noise continued, but now it was beginning to sound more like a song or a melody. It drifted lazily, and the sound was definitely entrancing. The Treasure Hunters found themselves walking towards the voice as if caught by a siren’s song. Actually, that wouldn’t be that far from the truth.

Night had arrived at the Eerie Bog at this point, and from where they were walking they could see a faint golden glow in the distance. Peter would have pointed out that the glow was coming from the same direction as the cooing melody, but he was too ensnared by the voice to concentrate on anything. Surprisingly, the voice began to get softer as the duo approached, as if it were luring them in. Peter supposed, in the back of his head, that it most likely was.

The voice was drawing them to a lake, that much was clear. The golden glow was much more obvious at this point- it was definitely from the same thing that was singing to them. Peter found himself suddenly standing at the edge of the lake, looking down at his reflection. He snapped out of his daze suddenly, glancing around. It appeared that Mercy was going through the same thing. “What just happened?”

“I think it brought us here. We got distracted. I got distracted, but Peter-”

Mercy pointed one of her paws at the lake, specifically below the surface. Peter watched in fascination as the glow began to rise, until it was near the surface. The object breached the water with ease, coiling up on the side of the lake. A brilliantly golden Milotic stared down at them, a serene smile on its face. Water dripped from its scales (strangely enough, it seemed to have lost some of that glow outside of the lake) and its fin waved in the air rhythmically.

“You have come~”, said the Water Type, leaning down to examine the two of them. Peter was awestruck. This was clearly the source of the glowing lake. This was what their mission-giver had sent them to discover. Not that he’d admit it now, but he was a little glad that Mercy had decided to drag him along on the mission.

“Oh Arceus.” Mercy sighed wistfully, moving closer to the Milotic. “You’re honestly beautiful. May I…” The Luxio’s voice trailed off as she leaned forward to touch one of the Milotic’s scales gently. “You’re hurt.”

Peter turned his head so that he could look at what Mercy saw. It was true- there were several patches of scales that had been ripped away, leaving somewhat infected looking wounds. Peter gazed up at the Milotic, who looked as serene as ever. “What happened here?”

The Milotic cooed again, waving its tail in the air slowly. The Water Type was so graceful, it appeared to undulate as a wave- even while out of the water. “I am the eldest of my broodsiblings. I was the only one to survive our parent’s first rampage, so I look after the second brood.” The Milotic pulled the rest of its coils out of the water, for there was a sudden disturbance.

Feebas, who must have been at the bottom of the lake with the golden Milotic, were beginning to swarm at the surface. Their aggravation was clear- the absence of the light was an issue. Peter looked on with horror as they made shallow jumps out of the water, their fangs glistening under the moonlight. Clearly these were not ordinary Feebas. They must have been hybrids of some sort.

“They become aggressive.” The Milotic said this as if it was no big deal. In fact, her demeanor hadn’t changed in the slightest since they had arrived at the lake- the entire time the Water Type had just been as sweet as could be, which made her attitude towards the violent Feebas all the more disturbing.

“I called you here though! You should help me, you’re a Rescue Team, right?” Peter was just about to correct her and tell her that they were Treasure Hunters, but the Milotic continued on. “The Court will be here soon! They’re going to decide whether I need to go so that this brood will die off, or if they will leave me so that my siblings will eat me.”

How in the world could anyone say that with a smile on their face? Mercy appeared to be as shell-shocked as he was. “So I need you to find a healer so that I can leave by myself! The Court isn’t particularly nice. There should be a Castform in this area, shouldn’t be too hard to find because they’re the only one! That Castform’s the best healer that the Eerie Bog has, so I need you to fetch them quick.”

With that, the Milotic sunk back into the lake, the cooing resuming. As the song began again, the Feebas began to calm down. Peter had to force his brain to stay focused to avoid crawling into the lake along with them, and he forcibly pulled Mercy away from the lake’s edge.

“Only one Castform in the bog, huh? That healer must’ve been the one you attacked, Mercy.”

The Luxio’s fur bristled. Peter recalled her earlier outburst at the Guild, and glanced down at the ground, muttering a small apology. “Sorry,” he said, and only looked back up when Mercy gave a confused trill.

“I don’t know what you mean?” Mercy glanced at him oddly before turning heel and going off into the bog. Peter followed her warily, staying a few paces back. He preferred to have her in his vision, especially after that little exchange.

It was pitch-black, and the only source of light were the occasional sparks that Mercy gave off that were instantly extinguished on the damp bog, and his own flame. The teal light stood out in the bog- and they were now too far from the Milotic’s lake for it to pass as just being part of the golden glow. Peter was on high alert, trying to keep watch for any of the guards that would still be after them.

“Boo.” A loud and high-pitched voice emanated out of the darkness. Mercy shrieked, and Peter turned around rapidly, the patch of light around him illuminating a new area. From here, it was obvious who had made that noise.

Mercy was standing face-to-face with a particularly large Haunter, who was chuckling as he watched the two scramble to get their acts together. Mercy bared her fangs, and Leered at the ghost, while Peter prepared another Smokescreen. The Haunter began to cackle, apparently at their efforts to scare him. “Did- oh god, you’re both so precious- did I hear that you’re looking for the Castform?” The Haunter apparently found this the funniest thing that he had ever heard, as he tilted backwards in the air as he laughed.

Mercy sighed. “Would you know where they live?”

Surprisingly, the Haunter nodded, the laughter subsiding. “Yeah, the healer lives through this bayou. There are guards posted there though- it’s the home of one of the Court members, and I’m pretty sure that you’re not welcome ‘round these parts. I could take you there- I don’t like the guards much either.”

Peter leaned forward to whisper into Mercy’s ear. “He’s insane. He’s utterly insane.”

Mercy paused, glancing back at him and then back at the Haunter. “But he’s right about the guards. If there are more than two… I don’t know if we can handle them.” The Luxio turned to the Haunter before Peter could protest further. “If you try to backstab us, I will not be afraid to put you down. We’re on official guild business here.” Her fur stood on end.

The Haunter nodded sagely. “I’m Mathieu, used to be a member of the Court myself, back in the day when I was alive. Head of the North-Eastern Bog, one of the greatest Justices that they’d ever had, they said. Oh yes, I think my name is inscribed on one of the rocks around here somewhere. I used to be a real lady’s man, back in the day. Was real sweet on a Butterfree from around here. Great dame too. Either of you have a sweetheart? Don’t seem like the type.”

Mercy rolled her eyes at Peter, and began to follow the Haunter. Peter sighed loudly, and puffed out his chest. The least he could do was follow his Captain. A strong majority of his time was spent worrying after Mercy. She was the one dragging this into a mission that lasted longer than it had too.

And so the three kept walking, determined to find the healer before sun-up, while the Haunter continued to prattle on. "It's just a silly hobby of mine, but I adore bug-watching," Mathieu continued. "There are several beautiful species of Caterpie native to these parts. And Ledyba, of course. But those are harder to watch unless one has a penchant for going without sleep at night. I've never personally had a problem with that, though. There are times when I think that I might almost be nocturnal. I've always felt a bit more comfortable at night, you know? Being able to go about my business while the rest of the world is sleeping. It's a strange thing, I suppose. But sleeping during the day does allow one the opportunity for some wonderful bug-watching at night."
"Ugh," Mercy said, and for a moment she sounded so much like herself that Peter snapped out of their stupor, but then the Haunter continued his schpeel.
"Many Caterpie in these parts tend to be more silly-looking than not," the ghost still droned on. "There's the Northern variation, which has big eyes and those curious-looking ridges. And the bayou variation, which I suppose is even sillier-looking that all the rest. I think that bugs are often so harmless-looking that most people tend to forget that they're actually quite dangerous predators. They don't look like predators, not really, not unless you're really looking at them carefully and you actually see what their insides look like. Bugs are such wonderful creatures, though. Since they prey mostly on vermin I suppose they're actually helping out humanity, in a way. Which is only fair, after all. What have outsiders ever done to help us, the bog-creatures? What price have they paid? Nothing, that's what. Outsiders contribute nothing. They deserve to become prey for bugs. The world has a way of working out toward fairness like that.”
Mercy mouthed “blah blah blah” at Peter, apparently not caring that the Haunter could clearly see it. Not that the Ghost Type cared apparently, because he kept prattling on.

“I also happen to be quite fond of Burmy as well.” Mathieu went on, still droning in Peter’s ears. “Quite lovely creatures, actually. Unfortunately, there aren’t any variations in these parts. You’d have to go to a filthy city or a godforsaken desert to see the others. And I’m quite content with staying in the Eerie Bog. You know, the southern part of the bog is quite deadly. Lots of noxious fumes there- a small Pokemon could die in a matter of minutes.”

But Peter wasn’t listening at this point. His attention was focused solely on tuning out the Ghost Type Pokemon and finding the healer that was going to appear in front of them any second now. Any second. Only a few more steps.

“The funny thing about this bog though, is how large it is,” Mathieu was still talking. “It’s almost like a region in and of itself. The Pokemon here have forged their own systems. That’s why you have the Court. Plenty of treasure to be found, too. There are also springs to the south, but there seems to be some sort of local superstition about going there, or something.”

Peter refused to listen to him- absolutely refused. It didn’t matter anyways, they would find that Castform any moment now. Peter was so focused on his goal that he almost didn’t hear Mercy when she said, “Wait, weren’t you just going on about the southern bog just now?” It was the first time that either of them had acknowledged anything that Mathieu had said.

“Why, yes I was, young lady.” Peter didn’t have to look to see the smirk on his face. He could hear it in the smugness of the Haunter’s voice.

“Do you go to the southern bog that often?”

“Oh, all the time. I guide people there, you see.”

Peter cut in- he was now paying attention since Mercy had already spoken up. “But I thought that the southern bog had noxious-“

“The southern Eerie Bog is lovely depending on the time of year,” Mathieu said. “Those flowers in the summer. The moody grey skies in the winter. Few bushes, because of the composition of the bog, and also perhaps because of what keeps the locals away. And because of that survey team from last month too, I suppose. What a nasty thing that was. But the southern bog isn’t nearly as dangerous as some people tend to think. There’s a lot of good and easy ground for walking. Easy to get to, too. The healer lives there. It’s a good place for curious treasure hunters with time on their hands and an even better place for a guide with important duties to fulfill.”

Something about that seemed so strange that Peter almost wanted to ask Mathieu about it. But he didn’t want to deliberately instigate another lecture. Not when they were so close to finding the Castform, and not when that Milotic was relying on them.

“Hey”, said a strangely familiar voice. Peter was so focused on his task that it got shoved to the back of his head.

“Hey,” the voice repeated, louder this time. Peter jolted back into reality, and turned around wildly, his teal eyes wide. A rather sour looking Castform hovered in front of him, and he sighed in relief. “What are you doing in the southern bog? I’ve been trying to find you two. It’s dangerous here, and you need to come with me.”

There was a long pause, in which Peter and Mercy stared at each other for a very long time. And then Mathieu began to laugh, a high-pitched giggle that hurt their ears after listening to him prattle on about his interests. “Arcdammit, healer. I had almost gotten them too. You should have seen it! The trap was right around the corner. They weren’t nearly as fun as the other team, though. Not nearly as responsive.”

Peter watched in disbelief as a crowd of Ghastly began to rise from the bog. The grasses began to part, and the Charmander could just barely see the skeletons of no less than five Pokemon nestled into the ground. Suddenly, he felt sick to his stomach, and from the retching sounds that Mercy was making, she felt ill as well.

Then, the Castform began to chant, and a pure rain began to fall. It was perhaps the first time in Peter’s entire life that he had felt grateful for a rain. Suddenly, it was just a little bit easier to breathe, and it no longer felt like they were going to keel over from the noxious gases. Mathieu looked downright pissed, and so did the Ghastly.

Mercy was the first one to strike, lashing out at Mathieu with a Spark. The Haunter crowed, and the Ghastly instantly began to act. Peter knew that his Ember would be weakened by the rain, but hopefully it would be enough to take some of them out. Ghastly weren’t exactly the most defense-oriented Pokemon. Sure enough, after three consecutive bolts of Ember, two Ghastly were down for the count, sinking into Arceus knows where. Peter turned just in time to see Mercy lunge over him to bite at Mathieu, finally finishing off the talkative Haunter. Three more Ghastly left, then.

Mercy was just about to lunge for one of them when a Weather Ball came hurtling out of nowhere. The Ghastly was struck down, leaving two behind. Peter lunged for one of the two Ghastly, a well-timed Ember knocking it out cold. Mercy redirected her spark to finish off the remaining Ghastly.

And with that, there was once again silence on the marsh. The healer looked down at the two of them. “We need to go. I can only keep the rain going for too long, and it’s almost dawn.”

Peter looked up at the sky, astonished. Mercy let out a cry of dismay. “But we had only followed him for maybe thirty minutes at most!” That was physically impossible, unless. Peter groaned loudly. Mercy turned to him, her eyes wide. “Peter, what?”

“He had used Confuse Ray. Mercy, I’m not sure how long we were walking, but it was a while. The choice you made to follow him almost got us killed, just as I had anticipated.”

“What the hell, Peter?” She looked like she was about to go off on a tangent when the Castform intervened.

“That’s not a conversation for now. Elena- the Milotic, sorry- she needs my help, I presume?” When the Castform looked in their eyes and saw their confusion, the cloud shaped Pokemon let out a small laugh, surprisingly sincere compared to the attitude it had had with them on their first encounter. “The news got to me. A Butterfree- I believe she was the object of Mathieu’s affections- had overheard him talking to you and set out to find me. Good thing that she did, too.”

---

It was midday by the time that they had reached the lake, and the changes were quite apparent. There was a large congregation formed around the lake. Several strange contraptions had been set up- the most prominent of which appeared to be something like a judge’s desk, with room for a panel of four. There appeared to be a variety of Pokemon seated, though the judges were a Beedrill, an Azumarill, a Banette, and then, strangely enough, a Cascoon. Unfortunately, there was a larger number of guards around them.

Elena the Milotic was holed up on the opposite side of the beach. Her song was mournful this time, and not even the peaceful cooing could convince the predatory Feebas to calm. They were jumping out of the water, snapping their jaws. One of them managed to catch hold of the Yanmega guard who was hovering above the water, and the bug was pulled down into the lake to be fed upon before any of the others could do anything to help. Peter winced slightly. Even though that would help in the long run, he couldn’t help but feel strong sympathy. That had to be one of the worse ways to go.

The trio approached the lake with caution, fully aware that the remaining three guards were turning to face them, and the Court was looking on with intrigue. Elena seemed to perk up as soon as she saw them, and the large Water Type frantically waved her tail. Her glow was very subdued in the morning sun.

“We’re going to treat her,” Mercy said. “We’re going to heal this Milotic, and then you can leave- because we’ll be helping her to a safer habitat.”

The Court glanced amongst eachother, and then the Beedrill spoke. “We have desssssssided that the Milotic will be left here for the good of the environment.”

Peter cried out in protest, but then caught the eye of one of the guards. It was a Heracross that happened to be working itself into a sweat. The grey Charmander suddenly recognized it as the Heracross from yesterday, who had carried Mercy across the marsh. He gulped. The Heracross charged at them. Mercy leaped aside this time, and then ran right back after him, fire gathering in her mouth. The Heracross went down again, this time permanently.

Peter watched as the other two guards approached him. This time, he was fully prepared. He began the Dragon Dance, all of his senses become heightened as the Mothim and Vespiquen approached him. In all honesty, the two bug Pokemon stood no chance. The teal-flamed Charmander spewed a stronger than normal Ember at the Mothim, and before either of them could react, he was on the Vespiquen, lashing out with a powerful Scratch. The queen bee buzzed, settling on an Attack Order. The Mothim prepared a Silver Wind, and Peter was only not blown away because he latched onto the bee with his claws. He had utterly shredded the female Pokemon’s back in the process.

With one down, and one to go, Peter turned on the other Mothim, a frown prominent on his face. Hurting other Pokemon brought him no joy. He was just about to finish off the Mothim when Mercy came hurtling out of nowhere with another Fire Fang, finishing the final guard off.

The two stood on the lake bed, breathing heavily. They were just about to turn to the Court, when they realized with a shock that all four Pokemon had suddenly fled. Elena giggled slightly, the sound ringing like bells. Team Iris turned to face the golden Milotic, and the Castform that was worrying around her wounds.

“You helped me~”, said the Milotic plainly. A large smile was on her maw, and it was so cheesy that Peter couldn’t help but smile back.

“We have to go, but we’ll be sure to tell the guild about this. We will make sure you’re safe, Elena.” Mercy turned, and nodded to the Castform healer.

Team Iris abandoned the lake, turning back to the direction of the guild. Mercy glanced over at Peter, her jaw clenched. “We need to have a talk when we get back to the guild. I’m not sure what you meant back at the southern bog, but you need to be able to trust me, Peter.”

"So it was a Milotic..." He would have never guessed. Upon the team's return to the guild they were met with the colossal frame of the Treasure Hunter's head himself. The Empoleon was frowning intently though it didn't seem to be addressed at Mercy or Peter. Rather, he seemed bothered by the report on the affairs of the Eerie Bog.
"Hn, making the decision of who lives and who dies is not something for mortals to decide. I don't like the sounds of how this court is being handled but it needs to be dealt with." Barcel lifted a shielded arm, a golden claw scratching at the side of his beak and he turned to the Mankey attendant standing at his side and holding a stack of papers.
"We'll send an experience Mercenary team out there to clean up the trash and set order to things. It's not something a Rank One team like you should be concerned over..."
Then in a gruff tone he shrugged his broad shoulders upward and extended gestured to the team, causing the Mankey to offer them a small satchel.
"Inside are your rewards. A Shiny stone and 9ooPD. As a bonus for a job well done there's an additional 15ooPD in there from me. Keep up the good work, kids." A competitive smirk tugged at the corners of his beak.
"Let's give those other groups a run for their money~"

Obtained the following:
2,400 PD total
Shiny Stone (x1)
+2 MP

Later the team would be summoned to the lobby where a group of Pokemon eagerly awaited the chance to join their team. Among them were a Butterfree, a curious Ghastly and a familiar, smiling Milotic.
They could only pick one to join their team though!

Ghost of Team Spectre

Ghost shivered, the cold mud feeling slick and slimy between her claws. It sent a deep chill into her bones, one she knew would certainly last long after the dirt had dried. At the very least, the marshland soil did not smell much more than earthy, though she was sure a great many things were buried beneath the surface that she did not want to know about.

The Absol was very quiet, almost unnerved by the silence of the swamp. She wished very much to be at home, away from this place.

She was here to search for some sort of bow or ribbon, though she couldn’t imagine what use it would be to the guild. She was unfamiliar with this sort of test- surely it would’ve been much more useful for her to fetch something of worth as a test?

With a heaving sigh of frustration, the timid Absol slugged her way forward through the knee-deep mud. It tugged at her pearly-white fur, dragging her back down from any reasonable travelling speed. It made even walking a great task, and it certainly made her nervous about being too far into the open. If anything were to attack her, she was likely a sitting Ducklett for their attacks.

Even under the cover of dusk, her white fur made her stand out against the dark mud. There was no hiding in places like this, and it was certainly among the reasons that Absol weren’t native to this area. She was as much of an outsider as she looked.

The Absol felt her toes stub something solid, and she jerked back, slipping in the thick mud and falling in to her waist. She shuddered, squeaking miserably at the uncomfortable sensation on her hips and belly. It was very cold sludge, particularly on her torso.

She her claws gripped the solid object, and she pulled herself up again. Suddenly, she found herself standing in but a thin layer of the mud. She was covered in it, true, but she was no longer trapped in it, like before. She would have been very pleased with herself about this, were it not for the pair of angry yellow eyes that glared down at her.

She squeaked again, whimpering apologies for climbing on the Scolipede without permission. She was more than a little surprised that he’d camouflaged himself so well, but she was also very uneasy of the reason why he might have done so.

The Scolipede’s jaws snapped at her, Ghost leaping down into the sludge without a second thought to dodge his attacks. She scrambled to her feet in the thick mud, very much regretting her decision as the great Bug-type rounded on her, his horns glowing eerily with a power that she felt sure would kill her in one. She was strong, sure, but not strong enough to face a Bug-type like this.

Moving far more quickly in the sludge than she could, it attacked her, and the Absol threw herself back down into the mud with a final gasp for oxygen.

She felt nothing but cold and the sudden urge to claw her way back upward. She found the panic, instead creeping along the solid ground at the bottom. Just a few more inches was all she needed, and she had to be careful. She could feel the mud sloshing over her as the thrashing of the Scolipede deepened the muddy pool- she didn’t want to know how far away the surface was.

Smack! Air burst from Ghost’s lungs, and she choked as she tried to inhale the mud that surrounded her snout. The Absol slashed at the ground with a Razor Wind, and she muck erupt in every direction.

The Scolipede, now very riled against her, snapped at her again. She squeezed her eyes shut, a strange, foggy barrier bursting from within her and meeting the toxic beast head-on. His attack bounced off the shield, giving her an opening as she swung her scythe around for another burst of slicing winds.

The Scolipede merely closed his eyes, the razor wind bounced harmlessly off his exoskeleton. Toxins gushed from his sides, seeming to seep through his skin and into the surrounding mud. The mud hissed and boiled around him, and he lunged forward again.

Ghost cringed, tripping as she scrambled back and away from him. She couldn’t run away, and she had nowhere to hide.

She had to fight.

The Absol’s timid demeanor seemed to melt away in an instant as the barrier flashed again around her mud-soaked body. The Scolipede crashed off its surface, deterred only for a moment, but was quickly met with another razor wind.

This time, the Scolipede brought up a barrier of its own, and Ghost lunged out of the mud to attack him. She feinted through the barrier, gouging at its side and scratching along its thick skin. It screeched horribly, eyes glinting with malice as it tried to bite her again, poison leeching through its skin as it rolled and twisted to reach her.

Ghost dug her claws into his back, determined not to fall back down into the deep mud, and she jumped at the Scolipede’s face, another razor wind slashing forward. A quick attack struck him square in the jaw, knocking its head down into the sludge.

She jumped, using the side of its head as a springboard to reach solid ground a few feet away. Now standing on the rotting remains of a nearby tree stump, she snarled defensively at the Scolipede when he lifted his head to stare at her.

Then, he did nothing, instead continuing to stare. Ghost could feel herself trembling, whether from cold or fear, she didn’t know. Her heart was racing, and her feet were numb from fighting in the cold slime.

The Scolipede, thoroughly frustrated with how resistant this particularly meal was, seemed to shrug as he turned and carved his way back into the depths of the swamp.

Ghost breathed shakily, slipping down onto her belly and lying flat on top of the tree stump. She wept with relief for a moment, very happy to have fended off a Pokemon that she fully recognized could have made a meal of her. She’d gotten lucky this time.

But she was tired, and moving on with so little energy would probably be a mistake. She dug a little at the surface of the tree stump, hollowing out part of the center for her to rest in. Covered in mud, her scent and appearance would be thoroughly disguised as the sunlight continued to fade. She just had to stay still and quiet.

- - - - -

Ghost awoke to the sound of buzzing, and the Absol remained still as stone for a moment as she struggled to locate the source. She hadn’t intended to fall asleep here, but perhaps it was for the better. She felt much more energized, and certainly drier than before.

Finally, deciding that the noise was far enough away, the dirt-covered Absol lifted her head. Her icy blue eyes fixed immediately on the source of the noise, blinking in awe at the thousands of brightly-coloured lights that floated about the swamp. Illumise and Volbeat. They weren’t known to be the smartest of Pokemon, necessarily, but they weren’t inherently aggressive. Mostly, they just made for beautiful scenery after sunset.

The Absol sat up, watching them dance above the surface of the mud, lighting up the grasses and shrubs as they flitted past. It was lovely to see, though their lights could be used for a much better purpose than sight-seeing. If she could find a higher vantage point, she might be able to catch a glimpse of that ribbon she was searching for.

Though loathe to do it, Ghost stepped back down into the mud, and trudged forward, moving much more carefully than she had earlier that day.

As long as she hadn’t strayed too far from her original course, the map she’d looked over before coming here would still be reasonably accurate. It was just general topography, so she wouldn’t be finding any significant landmarks, but it pointed out some of the area’s ravines and hillsides. In the case of this bog; however, she imagined it would be more like dykelands by now. It was a very old map, really.

She was correct, she realized, in assuming that she was still near to her original path, as there seemed to be a hill ahead of her. She jumped a little, struggling to break a faster path through the mud. She quickly settled for a weird, erratic jog, finding that she could better breach the mud’s surface if she thrust forward with her shoulders.

It probably looked a little odd, since some of the Illumise and Volbeat ventured closer to investigate the strange newcomer, but she wholly ignored them. They weren’t offering her any help or screeching any threats- that was enough for her. She just wished they’d leave her alone. Having so many nearby made her nervous about attracting attention. Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad, if they weren’t equipped with brightly-glowing backsides, but in the meantime they just made her uneasy.

”P-please go away,” she stammered irritably, the unsteadiness of her voice clearly betraying her discomfort. She wasn’t good with social things, and even the idea of talking to so many Pokemon was unnerving. ”I’m trying to go somewhere- you’re attracting attention.”

The nearest Illumise huffed indignantly at her, crossing her pudgy insect arms. ”Rude much?” she scolded unhappily, narrowing her eyes down at the mud-drenched Absol. ”You’re the weird one, here. You’re headed straight for a sinkhole.”

The Absol froze, a pit of anxiety sinking straight down into her gut. Oh. That would have been bad.

”Is there a way around it?” She ventured cautiously, her mud-covered nose gesturing toward the hill. ”I’m trying to get over there. Out of the mud.”

The bugs regarded her curiously for a moment, before one of the younger Volbeat piped up in response. ”You’re not gonna fly there?”

”I can’t fly- I’m an Absol, I don’t have wings or anything.” She explained, feeling both frustration and a strange sense of embarrassment. She’d very much have liked to be born with wings. She could fly wherever she wanted and not have to worry about any of this.

The little crowd of bugs seemed very astonished at this, muttering sympathetically among one another. They seemed sad at the prospect of someone without flight, perhaps because a flightless Volbeat or Illumise would be hard-pressed to survive this sort of area, but eventually they turned back to face Ghost.

”We’ll help yo-“ the young Volbeat began.

”AHEM!” The Illumise, likely the older sister of the previous bug (if her behaviour was any indication), nudged him roughly out of the way. ”We’ll help you get there, but you have to do something for us in return, okay?”

Her snobbish, high-pitched voice made her sound very self-assured. Ghost was a little envious in spite of herself, and nodded suspiciously. ”What do you need me to do?” She noted the irritation of the Volbeat, realizing that he had probably intended to help her even without asking for something in return. She wondered, then, what was so important for the Illumise to ask if her brother hadn’t thought of it.

”Bring me the pretty ribbon from that hill,” she demanded sharply. ”The blue one! That stupid Scolipede won’t let me have it, but I want it.”

The Absol’s heart sank for what must have been the billionth time that day. Not only did the Illumise want her to fight that massive Scolipede again, she was also likely talking about one of the bows that the Guildmaster had hidden here in the first place. This was the worst case scenario for her- she needed the bugs to get to the hill, but she’d also have to give up her prize even if she was able to get there and defeat the same Bug-type that had tried to eat her a few hours before. It didn’t seem like the sort of bug she could reason with.

”U-um, actually…” she began awkwardly, already knowing how this was going to go over.

”You can’t back out! I saw you fighting him earlier! I know you can!” The glowing she-bug was definitely angry, now. She wanted that ribbon.

Ghost felt a burst of irritation at the stubborn selfishness of the Illumise. ”Except that the ribbon is the whole reason I’m here. The Guildmaster asked me to fetch him a bow he’d hidden in the swamp.” Her voice was a little sharper than intended, and she snapped a little at the Illumise when the glowing bug tried to swat at her for having the nerve to speak back.

”Well screw you, too, then!” With a grouchy expression, the Illumise and her group spun off into the darkness, lights flashing on and off with some sort of annoying bug message.

The Absol made a face after their retreating backs, clearly both embarrassed and a little pissed off at the whole thing.

A soft noise of someone clearing their throat drew her attention, and she looked back at the Volbeat. ”I can show you where the edge of the sink hole is? If you want to know, I mean.” He couldn’t have been far out of childhood, but he seemed sure of himself.

Grudgingly, the Absol nodded. She’d have to trust that he wouldn’t want that stupid bow for his sister.

He floated ahead of her, pausing every now and again for her to catch up as she marched along behind him. The mud was up past her shoulders in places, making movement quite difficult, but the Volbeat seemed more confused than impatient when she would stop to rest now and again.

He asked a lot of questions, mostly about girls. He seemed to recognize that she was female, at least, so she supposed she couldn’t be that unattractive. She’d never considered herself a great beauty, and the mud probably didn’t help.

”Bringing her flowers or something’s an okay idea, I guess. Just be nice to her- she might come around eventually? I’m not really good with this stuff, though. You’re better off asking someone else.” The Absol finished, shaking the mud from her legs as she stepped up onto the start of the hillside.

The winding path around the sinkhole had taken them almost an hour to traverse. Even that short distance was far too long when the mud threatened to pull her under and swallow her up. She dreaded to think what it would’ve been like if she were any shorter.

”I’ll bring her the best flowers, you’ll see! Goodbye, Muddy!” He chirped, content with the answers he’d gotten despite the dubious nature of Ghost’s romantic experience. Namely, the lack of it.

Ghost opened her mouth to object, but sighed heavily in annoyance as she realized the Volbeat was too far gone to hear her, anyway.

She finished shaking off the excess mud, and trudged up the hill to find the ribbon. She knew that the Scolipede would not be far off, particularly once it realized she was here. She had to be very careful, and very quiet.

As she rounded the crest of the hill, she found herself staring down into a circular pit. The pit was crudely formed, perhaps dug by the claws of a very large insect. There in the center was the ribbon she was looking for, but it was also surrounded by mounds of grey-ish, mottled eggs.

Realizing how much danger she’d be in if the Scolipede found her, she cringed, stepping back and away from the mouth of the pit.

Her back bumped against something cold and solid.

The Scolipede stared down at her with no shortage of animosity. ”Leave this place, if you know what’s good for you.” She hissed dangerously, clearly trying to avoid fighting so close to the muddy edge of her nest. With such water-soaked soil, the nest would be very delicate and easily-damaged. Burying her babies was not something she was keen to do, it seemed.

With expert precision, the Scolipede circled around the Absol, hissing continuously as she posed herself between the intruder and her eggs.

”I’m just here for the ribbon!” the Absol blurted suddenly, ducking low against the muddy ground.

The Scolipede frowned, staring at the Dark-type like she was insane. ”Ribbon? What nonsense do you speak of? You hover on the edge of my nest, ready to injure my children, and yet you ask for something to decorate your fur with?” The Poison-type was not happy with this turn of events, really. Clearly, this Absol was a lunatic.

Ghost quaked with fear as the Scolipede brought her face dangerously close to her own. ”I’m from the guild- they told me to find a bow in the swamp. It’s a sort of test… thing. Kind of stupid, really. But the Illumise said you had one here, and when I got here, there was one sitting on your eggs. I mean, I didn’t know there’d be eggs- I even didn’t know this was your nest, but that’s not the-”

The Scolipede hissed warningly and the nervous rambling of the much smaller Absol was immediately ceased.

”Just take the damned thing and be gone, pest.” The light blue bow was unceremoniously dumped onto her face, and Ghost quickly took it into her mouth as it fell toward the ground.

She mumbled a fearful ”Thank you” and darted immediately back down the hill, plunging happily back into the slimy, freezing cold mud.

- - - - -

When she reached the guild about four and a half hours later, it was past midnight, and Ghost herself was still shaking like a leaf with a mixture of fear, relief, and near-hypothermia.

Veilmys

Veilmys toyed around with the Partner Voucher in his ribbons as he waited for the Absol to return. She really was taking her sweet time getting back--it had been nearly a whole day since he'd sent her on her way, and the moon had already passed its zenith. The Sylveon might have been concerned, but he'd been keeping tabs on the situation enough to know that she should be arriving soon enough.

When Ghost trudged into the main hall, the Guildmaster's eyes widened with surprise to see the shivering mass of muddy fur that had replaced the pure-white Absol from before. "Good heavens my dear, you look dreadful! Wait there just a moment." The Sylveon ducked into his office and emerged shortly after with a thick blanket held securely in his ribbons. Naturally it was a lovely shade of pink, and he hated to get it dirty, but it was for the greater good. With a gentle flick of the ribbons, he tossed the sheet over the Dark Type and smiled happily. "There, that should help warm you up. Now, let's see that ribbon, shall we~?"

He accepted the light blue bow from her mouth, flipping it over to check the lining. After brushing a bit of mud from the sides he spotted it: a strand of white turned brown from the muck it had brushed against. "Splendid work!" he said cheerfully, pulling the thread out with a practiced claw. He returned the bow to her, slipping the paper he'd been holding beneath it. "You are now a Rank One Team of the Guild of Eclipse. The bow is yours to keep, and the paper allows you to receive your partner assignment." He smiled apologetically. "Unfortunately it's after hours right now at the Partner Assignment Office, so you'll have to go there tomorrow morning. At least it'll give you the chance to wash up though." He chuckled, stepping to the side to allow the Absol past. "Team Rooms are just down the hall, I'm sure you'll find them without too much trouble. Oh, and my dear?" The Sylveon smiled gently. "Do take care of yourself. If those chills get any worse there are always Pokemon at the Infirmary who'd be happy to lend a paw."

Ghost of Team Spectre

Ghost trembled miserably, nearly weeping with relief at the warmth of the fluffy pink towel that was immediately drawn across her back and shoulders. It was so soft and comfortable- a complete luxury from what the bog had been for her. It even smelled nice, with the fresh scent of lavender soap wafting off the once-clean fabric. The guild really did have everything. Maybe she'd get something this nice, if she stayed here long enough.

"Th-thank you, Guildmaster, Sir." She squeaked bashfully, embarrassed to have received such a warm welcome. This guild was very different from home.

She managed a tiny, nervous smile for the Guildmaster as she sat trembling in the over-sized towel, watching as he accepted the bow she'd gathered and examined it carefully. She wasn't sure what he was looking for, entirely, until she watched him pluck a muddied string from the back of it. Oh. It was probably proof of authenticity, now that she thought about it. She hadn't even considered the idea that there might be other ribbons out there.

As Veilmys congratulated her, Ghost felt a strange bubble of warmth and pride in her chest. She was still nervous, very much so, but it felt good to know that she'd done something right. This was the first step to becoming strong.

The little Absol, appearing even smaller through the thickness of the towel and the way the mud was plastered against her skin, accepted her ribbon and paperwork from the Guildmaster. She realized he was right about the paper, and that she'd have to wait until tomorrow to get a partner, but that just meant she could get used to her surroundings first. Maybe get rid of this mud.

Nodding as he directed her toward the team rooms, she flushed sheepishly at the mention of infirmaries. She must look really bad, half-drowned as she was in bog mud. She just hoped that she wasn't making too big a mess in the hallway, though she was more damp now than dripping wet.

She tugged the borrowed towel a little tighter around her for warmth, and forced her trembling feet to carry her a little further to the team accommodations.

"Every bog was once a lake, and this particular bog has a particularly interesting story. Let's just say not many pirates choose to sink their treasure in a lake for safe keeping--and even fewer die before they get the chance to reclaim it. I've heard rumors that people have begun to search for it again; if you help me find it, I'll split the treasure with you."
Location: Eerie Bog
Floors: 30

Part One

“I really cannot thank you enough for the escort out here. It's indeed quite thrilling to have a team aid me in search of treasure! It's almost like we are archaeologists on a mission! Imagine the artifacts and rare antiquities we will find! Oh, I simply cannot wait! This is so exciting. Did you know how rare it is for a quagmire to harbor such items? I assure you, it's quite the uncommon occurrence! But my sources are never wrong, and my research is flawless. There is surely great fortune awaiting us in this bog!”

“That's nice. Now, please, shut up.” Cimm growled in deep irritation as he scowled at the telepathically blabbering Starmie. The purple starfish hadn't shut up since the moment it walked up to the guild's main entrance on two of its fins. It was quite awkward to watch an obviously aquatic creature wobbling around on land, but it seemed to get around fine and Cimm didn't care enough to mock the sight. It was before dawn, they had a long hike ahead of them to the Eerie Bog, and he was no morning person. It seemed he wasn't the only one. Nuna and Kennick were unusually quiet. Both had drooping eyes and their awareness of the situation seemed off to him from their position seated on the cobbled path leading up to the guild. Cimm wanted to join them in their daydreaming, but he had other responsibilities.

He shifted on his feet and moved the weight in his strapped on pouches around to a more comfortable position. He had supplies a-plenty for himself and two others, in case they had to make an overnight trip. Food, money, a first aide kit, and magnets. Well, those were for him, but they were necessary all the same. Nidyhana was also bearing the weight of food and other needed items in her own cheap satchel that she had brought along with her when the Sneasel had come to the guild. He was glad to have the extra hand so that he wouldn't have to be the only one suffering. Finding a backpack for a dragon or ghost wasn't exactly an easy task, and he didn't trust Nuna with anything important by way of wisdom.

“Alright, everyone knows what the plan is?” He gruffly asked, scanning with tired eyes over all of his Team's members. Only Mana nodded, the rest apparently distracted or to tired to answer. He growled and looked at the Starmie that was their client. He couldn't read the facial expression of the Pokemon, as it had no face, but the Luxio could tell that it was beginning to become uneasy by the way it was shuffling its fins around. An understandable reaction considering the long quest they were about to embark on. The cat took a breath through his nose and exhaled in the form of words. “Whoever doesn't answer me doesn't get to eat today.”

That was all it took to get Nuna, Nidhyana, and laughably, Kennick's attention. He hadn't been expecting to have all three sets of eyes staring at him so quickly. He smirked and nodded sharply. He was finding it easier to control his whimsical and rather rowdy group with every passing day. In a few years he could even imagine milking a few drops of respect out of the otherwise blatantly disrespectful bunch.

“Huh? Why? What? Did I miss something?” Nuna blabbered out tiredly, causing the Luxio to roll his eyes at his co-captain. He flashed her his fangs as his annoyance seeped through.

“The plan?” he exasperated, already dreading the day's events. He could deal with them on a day-to-day basis by simply ignoring them. When it came to missions, however, it had proved quite vital to keep a reign on his obnoxious team members. He wasn't sure he could keep his sanity through the night if they had to spend it in the bog.

“Uhm, yeah, that. Go to the clog, find its measure, and come back?” Nuna answered, though her sentence sounded oddly like a question to him. He bit his inner lip and groaned, wanting to bash his skull into the nearest wall repeatedly. He had already briefed all of them on what they would be doing the night before, as well as earlier in the morning. Apparently, Nuna's skull was so thick it couldn't even absorb a simple plan. He was glad he had other teammates to correct the Aron, because otherwise he'd be trying to tear through her metal coating at this point.

“Not clog; Bog. We're going to the Eerie Bog, finding the treasure, and then coming back.” Nidhyana kindly filled in with a chuckle, clearly way more amused by Nuna's airheadedness than Cimm. He grumbled under his breath complaints about the lack of common sense before letting out a breath.

“We scout out the main area where this guy-”

“Claudius.” The Starmie patiently yet timidly interrupted. Cimm only paused for a moment to look blankly at the purple fish before returning back to his team.

“Where Claudius says he's sure the treasure-”

“Is at the heart of the bog!” The Starmie interrupted. Cimm clenched his teeth and felt a quiver run through his insides as he tried his best to restrain himself from turning around and beating up their client. Apparently anything that had to do with their current mission would set the water type off on a tangent about the subject. But instead of slicing up and frying a nice batch of Starmie fritters like his gut told him to do, he focused on quelling the swirling cloud of annoyance and anger within as Claudius spoke on.

“This treasure is a rarity among rarities. If my research proves correct, and it always does, this is the treasure of the Pirate Agatha. Late into the Era of Pirates, Agatha was one of the few female pirates. One of the best, too. She was hired by the greedy leader of an ancient civilization to pillage his enemies' resources. They had a deal where he would get three fourths of the treasure she found, and she could keep the quarter of it for herself and her crew, as well as any goods that couldn't be sold for high value on the market. So she and her crew basically lived aboard her ship. They kept food and clothing from the other ships they ambushed, as well as any food stuffs they found. Her infamy was grand, yet her charisma drew others to her! Before long she was the commander of her own pirate fleet! Do you know how amazing that is?”

The Starmie paused and looked around at all of them with its giant red crystal. Cimm was bored out of his mind with the whole thing, but a look at the rest of them let him know that at least three of his team members were captivated by the story. Kennick still looked groggy and hadn't said a word yet. Nuna, Nidhyana and Mana were staring wide eyed at the Starmie. Though Cimm had to wonder if his co-captain was taken in by the story or if she was just entranced by the giant, multi-colored, gleaming gem protruding from the center of Claudius' face.

“It's fantastic! Pirates only usually held a career of one or two years due to the dangerous circumstances and substantial pay off. But Agatha held her position as a pirating goddess for five years! Incredible, I know, but that's not even the most fantastic part! After such a long time working for the man, she eventually realized she had more than enough power to overwhelm him. So one day she took her fleet and stormed his home territory! While her other ships swarmed the towns and villages, she led a small group of her closest crew members and stormed the temple of the ruler! In the end she vanquished the greedy ruler and retrieved all of the treasure she had collected for him. But at a great cost.”

Claudius sighed sadly, though it could have been a pause for air after his long winded story. Cimm couldn't tell, nor did he really care to. Unfortunately for him, the Starmie wasn't quite done yet. “While the king had been greedy and had hoarded riches from his ailing people, Agatha had been blinded to her own greed for wealth and power. She did not realize the pain she was causing the poor people that her employer had ruled over, and in her shortsightedness also lost her closest friends in the siege of the treasury. Only when they had all fallen did she realize her mistake. Guilt ridden, she delved out the treasure to the people, only keeping a small portion, perhaps one chest or less, for herself. Instead of using that treasure for herself, however, she decided to sink in the deepest part of the ancient lake that is now the Eerie Bog today.”

“Wow. That's incredible! What kind of Pokemon was she, to be so... Cool?” The newest member of Team Moonlighter asked in awe as Claudius finally drew his story to a close with a tone of finality. The water Pokemon save a shrug like gesture with two of its arms.

“No one knows just what species she was.” The Starmie informed Nidhyana with an inquisitive trill in his voice. “Actually that reminds me of another fascinating fact about Agatha. Did you know that many different claims on her species have been-”

“Ohhhhhkay! That's enough!” Cimm growled loudly as he whipped around to stand directly in front of Claudius. He narrowed his yellow stare quickly and noticed with a bit of satisfaction as the Starmie stepped back a bit. “Let's just go already. I'm sure you could drone on about useless past events forever, but we have a job to do, and I would like to leave before the day is over!”

The Luxio hardly noticed how harsh his tone had been, or how his fangs were baring themselves menacingly at the Starmie, or even how his fur had started to crackle with energy as he nearly shouted his last few words. All he did notice was how effective he had been in getting Claudius to shut up. He nodded once very sharply before pushing past the fish and throwing a ”Let's go.” over his shoulder.

There was only a slight hesitation before the sound of footsteps and unwilling groans filled the air behind him. ”Something obviously crawled into his bed and bit him on the butt last night harder than it usually does.” His co-captain's voice piped up, but he ignored it. If she was finally awake enough to speak, then she could keep that blabbermouth Claudius busy for the long trip to the Eerie Bog.

And busy indeed she did keep him. The sun was high in the sky by the time they reached the fields and dense pinewood forests just before the bog, and Cimm had yet to speak another word to the Starmie.

”So... What your saying is... Your being greedy and selfish, just like that Ugtha pirate lady.” Nuna was skeptically questioning the exasperated Starmie. He let out a sigh of frustration and shook his body in a negating gesture.

”For the thousandth time; I'm not being selfish! This gem is not something I can just take off and hand to you! It's a part of my body.” The starfish groaned psychically in what he didn't know was a vain attempt to reason with the Aron. ”And her name is Agatha, not... Whatever it is that you just called her!”

”Pshh, whatever, it sounds like a lame excuse if I've ever heard one.” The shiny little Pokemon huffed, a grin suddenly spreading across her face under her mask as she took a quick step towards Claudius. ”Hey, I bet you've just never tried hard enough to pull it off. Why don't I- Huh? Agh! Yuck!” Luckily for Claudius, Nuna stepped in a big patch of mud before she could enact whatever harebrained thoughts she was dreaming up. Cimm looked at her in sadistic amusement as she shook off her now muddy feet and backpedaled to the grassy area she had been in only moment ago. ”What is this witchery?” The girl cried in a tone Cimm hadn't heard since their first mission together.

”It's called the Eerie Bog, you dimwit.” Cimm kept his tone even as the rest of the group, unfazed by the shallow muck they were now standing in, came to an opening that revealed to them a large portion of the mire. Trees instantly became sparse. The ground steadily gave way to water ahead of them, which in turn disappeared under a thick sheet of sphagnum moss that coated the landscape in a dull yellow brown color. From the few sickly looking trees they could see other types off moss growing, hanging from the skinny branches like tattered pieces of dark green cloth. Tall patches of grass grew here and there, and some raised land was visible, though none of it was connecting.

”Looks like we'll be wading most of the time, huh?” Nidhyana laughed, tossing a clawed arm out to gesture towards all of the visible landscape before them. Odd as it was, they couldn't see too far due to the nearly hilly nature of the bog. Claudius apparently noticed this too, as he went into a rant about how this was a special bog with a dome like shape, but Cimm was too fed up with listening to the Starmie to try and pick up on the details of why this was so.

”Well, I am not going in there. Not with all that gross, sticky mud!” Before anyone could try to reason with the Aron, she had backed up a safe distance from where the edge of the grime started. Immediately after is when she charged forward and flung herself through the air. Everyone who could blinked in confusion as they watched the tiny, yet heavy body soar through the air. Her target became obvious only after she had landed. Her landing pad? Kennick's wide and sturdy shell. ”W-woah!” She gasped out as she sprawled out her legs in an attempt to keep her balance on the dragon who had just been spooked.

”What in Arceus' name...!?” The Shelgon shouted as if he had just been woken up by means of cold water being splashed into his little cubby hole. It was pretty close to it, actually. Kennick had been nothing more than a sleep walking zombie the whole way to the swampy area. He tried to spin around in a circle to get a better look at who or what had just pounded into his back. That turned out to be a vain action as he really was impeded from doing so by his shell. Once Nuna's laughter reached his ears, he scoffed and stopped going around in circles. ”What are you doing, you impudent little-”

”I'm hitching a ride, duh!” Nuna interrupted with a laugh. Cimm was a bit surprised at how well rooted she was to the squirming dragon. ”Look, I ain't gonna get into that grime myself. I woke up unusually shiny today, and I'm not about to throw that out the door and into the mud. Just be my floaty raft thingy for today.”

”How about no? Just get off of me! This is so demeaning!” Cimm rolled his eyes at Kennick's whining. How he always seemed to end up with the most ridiculous Pokemon was beyond him. He would have yelled at them both to stop goofing off and focus, but Mana had entered his peripherals at that moment. He shut his mouth and looked to the ghost expectantly. He had noticed more and more lately that he could sense when Mana was trying to get his attention on purpose. The Gastly never showed itself to him unless he was addressing it, or Mana wanted something. He flicked his ears at the quiet spirit in his own subtle way of telling it to speak.

”I can sense other ghosts nearby, Sir. And getting closer.” Mana's worried tone made him squint his eyes. What was that supposed to mean? His eyes flicked over to the group making a ruckus. Kennick was currently trying to buck off Nuna, who was complaining about him splashing mud everywhere, while Nidhyana stood back and laughed heartily at the scene and Claudius obliviously blathered on about the swamp.

”Shut up, all of you! Something's not right here.” All four turned to the cat. Well, Kennick turned towards him and brought Nuna along with him. They fell silent as he flicked his ears rapidly around the area, searching for any out of place sounds that could alert him to an ambush. He didn't need a reminder of the craftiness that ghosts possessed. A breeze passed by that made the whole bog shudder, and Cimm took note of the way Mana's ghostly gases expanded and quickly contracted to make itself smaller. Something was not right with this place.

”Sorry to bother you, Mr. Cimmerian, sir.” Cimm was instantly snapped out of his focus as he turned his head abruptly to Claudius. His eye twitched and seemed to give cause for hesitation in the Starmie's voice. ”I-I, uh, was just wondering if you were thinking it would be safe for us to continue as we are.”

”Call. Me. Cimm.” Were the first words he growled menacingly in response.

”B-but, Miss Nuna said-”

”Just do it!” The Water Pokemon nodded quickly with its upper body. ”And we will be fine, as long as we keep moving. Just standing around here isn't going to do us much good. You. Lead the way to where this treasure is. We'll keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.” He ordered the Starmie whose knowledge he was going to put to the test.

”Wait, you don't really expect me to lug her around the whole time we're here, do you?” Kennick's disbelieving voice met his ears. He looked over the dragon and its hitchhiker with dull eyes.

”That shell of yours looks like it holds quite a bit of air in it. You probably float easily on water, no?”

”What? Yeah, so what?”

”So. Nuna sinks. She is made out of steel and rock, you know. Just suck it up, Princess.” He teased the dragon with a straight face. That elicited a deep grumbling from Kennick that Cimm decided he'd better quell before they got even more off track. ”I thought the Old One would have taught her disciples how to be chivalrous. I guess not. Maybe there is a thing or two you can learn from me.”

”Wh-what? That's ridiculous! Of course the Old One taught me- I mean, what would you know about- Ugh! Fine! Whatever, let's just go already.” Kennick stumbled over his words and speech, but eventually gave up upon seeing he was trapped by the Luxio's well made comeback. He grumbled and pushed past the cat, heading into the water before the Starmie even had a chance to.

”Eh? A-are we really taking off now? Oh, alright! Wait for me, Master Kennick!” Cimm rolled his eyes as Claudius took after the duo wading into the muck and water. Where had he gotten these nicknames from? Shaking his head he began taking the first steps into the thick water ahead of him. He hadn't taken much note before, but the way the mud squeezed through his toes sent shivers up his spine. His mind couldn't help but to think back to the similar feeling he had when trudging through the goop back at the Toxic Swamps. Though he much preferred this place over that one, he could do without the slimy sensation.

He ignored the sensation as best as he could, considering the fact that he knew he was going to be covered in filth one way or another after trudging through the bog. He slipped into the waters that ended up being nearly chin high to him, and Nidhyana was close at his heels. He was glad that he'd opted to pay extra money for a water proof and sealed bag when he'd bought his harness. He didn't have to worry about carrying it over his head the whole time like his newest team member did hers.

”Nice coercing back there, Chief.” The Sneasel snickered as they both held their chins high and followed after the group. Cimm ignored Nidhyana for the moment and let his eyes rove about for any signs of Mana. He could feel the ghost's presence nearby, but couldn't see it. As long as the spirit stayed close in case of an emergency, he didn't care if it was invisible or not. ”So what's with the 'Old One' stuff? Is that a secret code or something? Or someone's grandparent?”

”What? No, it's a long story is what it is. Just don't worry about it.” Cimm absently answered as his mind tried to shift to what they could be expecting ahead of them. He was worried that they may not be the only ones who know about the treasure. Even if they were the only ones, they still had to worry about feral Pokemon and random attackers. What if they got separated, or one of them got injured, or died, or-

”Oh, come on, just tell me! We're going to be in this bog for a while, you know. I don't wanna be left out of-” Nidhyana's voice interrupted his frantic thoughts and he swiveled his head slightly to glare at her, effectively shutting her up. The Sneasel gulped and her bright blue eyes flickered between his electric yellow ones.

”If you don't shut up and just focus on the mission, I'll make sure you don't leave the bog.” He stated in monotone, though his threatening expression remained. The Sneasel only looked stunned for a second more before she let a scowl overcome her features.

”I don't know if this is what your like all the time, but this attitude sucks. You told Kennick to suck it up, yet you can't even have a simple conversation.” Nidhyana grumbled, sloshing forwards ahead of him as he scoffed and rolled his eyes. ”I honestly hope what that letter said was true, still.”

Cimm kept a growl from coming out of his throat as he watched the blue feathered Sneasel go ahead of him. He just shook off her words and put them out of his mind for now, already trying to put any memories of that note they had received out of his memories. If he had to deal with another Pokemon in need of an attitude adjustment, he didn't know how much longer he could stay sane. He tried to push out his other thoughts as well, focusing on his role now as guard of the group's rear. Claudius soon overtook Kennick's slow paddling with him being a water type, and the five team mates followed the Starmie to where the treasure hopefully was. The dense layer of moss and cranberry bushes floating atop the water was no problem for the starfish. Claudius sent a jet of water ahead of him every so often to clear a path for them to wade freely through. It was a slow process, but it got the job done. In fact, things went this way for a couple hours without any hinderance.

They swam and waded, sometimes coming up to a patch of higher ground where they could rest their legs. Eventually Nidhyana had joined up with Kennick and Nuna and was engaged in a rather lively bout of conversation with the Aron perched on Kennick's back about the glittery objects they may or may not find. Kennick was ignoring them and Mana was still nowhere to be seen by the naked eye. That left Cimmerian with the motormouth Claudius who was spouting off random facts about bogs, pirates, and artifacts.

”Fens are actually alkaline bogs. And I'd have to say that this swamp is very nearly at that classification! Look at how malnourished the trees are around here. Obviously this is a sign of...” Cimm tuned the Starmie out as he thought about how odd this trip was turning out to be. Besides the company he had, there was something just not right with their surroundings. As the sun began to set lower over the slightly curved horizon that the bog provided, Cimm couldn't help but feel that something was watching him from the fog that was settling over the waters. Eerie was certainly a word that fit the bog's description. The twilight that was quickly covering the scenery also added on to the creepy feeling he was getting. But that wasn't what had him on edge.

They had seen no other Pokemon this entire time. Now that he thought about it, he figured he would have noticed the absence of sound in the quagmire a lot sooner had his group actually been silent.

”How much longer?” Cimm suddenly snapped at Claudius halfway through the Starmie's rambling explanation of the PH scale. All eyes turned to him, since he had be so silent for the past hours since they'd entered the bog.

”I-I'd say maybe forty five minute, an hour at most. The map I read said it should be just up ahead. The landscape should change, too, since-”

”We'll find a dry place for the night, then. Mana?” He called out, fully expecting the sudden materialization of the ghost beside him as it heeded his call. The others seemed a bit startled by this and Cimm had to wonder if they were all getting creepy vibes from this bog as well and were on edge. Or maybe it was because he and Mana had never pulled this trick in front of anyone yet. Either way, he didn't dwell on it too much and went on. ”Have you noticed any good places to settle down?”

”I noticed a raised spot about ten minutes back.” The ghost simply stated, and Cimm nodded, grateful in part for the Gastly's useful observant nature. He looked to the four other beings standing around him and huffed.

”Will there be any complaints about stopping?” He gruffly asked, eyeing each of the Pokemon before him. Kennick scoffed and drew his attention.

”Are you kidding? It would be stupid to keep going through he in the night.” The dragon mentioned, and Nidhyana gave hearty nod of agreement.

”And I'm hungry!” Nuna exclaimed in addition, reminding them all of the amount of time that had passed since they ate lunch in the plains before the bog. Nidhyana gave another agreeing nod. Cimm puffed a short breath out through his nose, glad to have all of his team in agreement for once.

”Lead the way, Mana.” He instructed the ghost, who nodded and turned to float in the direction it had spotted the hopefully dry area. They began trekking back through the boggy land. About ten minutes later, just as Mana had said, they had derailed from the main path they had taken back and felt the ground start to incline upwards. Soon they were completely out of the water and standing on top of what seemed to be a large moss covered rock. It was pretty massive, big enough for all of them to lay down on comfortably and still light a fire in the middle. Cimm extended his claws so as not to slip on the slick moss as he climbed to the far side of the relatively dry area. ”I'd prefer some cover, but this will do.” He mentioned, noticing how out in the open they were. If it rained, they'd have a problem, but the sky was clear of any clouds so he didn't think it would be an issue. He turned to look at Nidhyana, who had sat her satchel down and was rubbing her arms that were probably sore from carrying her bag above the water the entire time. ”Get out the fire starter supplies you brought.” He blandly ordered.

Nidhyana gave him a look that told him she was still slightly irritated with him, but did as he said anyways. As the Sneasel rifled through her bag, Kennick carefully climbed the slippery rock. Without any way to grip onto the ground with his blunt paws, this was quite the task. But the dragon proved to have a better sense of balance than Cimm realized and Kennick eventually made it to the flat part of the boulder without so much as a single wobble. As soon as he was still Nuna took the opportunity to jump off of his back.

”Ick. It's still wet.” She complained as her feet tested out the damp, mossy area. The Aron looked over to Claudius, who was just getting out of the water himself, and then to Nidhyana, who was currently pulling out a metallic object and setting it in the middle of the rock. ”What's that, huh? A... Can?” Nuna's voice filled with confusion at the sight of the tin can filled with holes that the Sneasel had placed on the ground and was shoving what looked to be paper wads into. The weasel Pokemon smiled at Nuna and nodded.

”Yup. I have quite a few of these fire starters in here.” The Sneasel mentioned, taking out a wad with one hand and twisting it around to show the different angles. ”Wax, lint, and parchment wrapped in alcohol based paper. I just stick it in here, like so, and light it.” Her explanation was perky and excited, apparently glad to be showing others her craftiness.

”Hate to burst your bubble, Captain Camper, but where are the matches?” Kennick noted pessimistically. The addressed Pokemon quirked a brow and gave him a cocky smirk. The Sneasel closed her eyes and breathed in deeply through her nose, holding her breath for a second before slowly opening her crystal blue orbs again and parting her lips just a bit. The next thing anyone saw was a small yet very straight stream of bright orange fire shooting from the Sneasel's mouth, odd circlets surrounding the beam of fire as it shot into the can. As the fire starter took to the heat and gave off its own warm energy Kennick huffed and rolled his eyes. ”Showoff.”

”You bet!” Nidhyana laughed in reply, placing the back of her two clawed hands on her hips, ”And because of the 'special' properties of my fire, that little bit will burn for twice as long as it normally would! I've learned a bit about magic from my father when I was young.”

Kennick grumbled something under his breath that Cimm suspected were curses and Nuna roared her bewilderment and excitement at seeing the trick. Cimm himself only curled up on the ground, tucking his paws underneath him and wrapping his tail neatly against his legs. He kept his head up and looked over the bog to the North from where they came. He blotted out the sounds of his rambunctious team as he tried to discern any forms of malignant beings in the quickly darkening shadows of the night. Perhaps he was becoming more aware of ghostly presences with the help of Mana's nearly constant lingering position at his side. He certainly thought so, as he was getting similar vibes from the bog as he did the Gastly that accompanied him.

”Hey.” Nidhyana's voice didn't startle him, but drew him out of his vigil as she pulled away from the group now huddled around the fire. He looked at her blankly as she knelt down beside him. ”Nuna ate the rest of the food in my bag, do you have enough for me and Kennick?” She was already reaching for the pouch on his left side and he quickly send a very small current of electricity through his body, to the magnets sewn into the flap of the storage compartment. He expertly twisted the effect of the magnets so that they would become polar opposites and repel rather than attract each other. The result was the sudden opening of the pouch before Nidhyana could even reach it. She gasped and drew back her claw quickly.

”Go ahead.” Cimm simply mentioned without giving much thought to her reaction. ”I thought this might happen, so I packed extra.” The Sneasel hesitated before nodding and reaching into the pouch to gather a few food items from it.

”Sheesh, you packed a ton!” Nidhyana mused with a whistle, to which the Luxio only grunted and turned back to watching the bog with suspicion. He heard the ice Pokemon sigh, ”I haven't known you for that long, I get it, but why are you so stressed?” Cimm cringed as he was addressed. He seriously hated how nosy this girl was being.

”My stress levels don't concern you.” He huffed tiredly as he sent a reversing pulse of electricity to quickly snap shut his pouch. Nidhyana grunted and stood back on her feet as if to leave, but lingered just a moment more.

”Aren't you gonna eat?” She asked curiously upon seeing that the electric lion hadn't taken out anything for himself.

”Later.” He simply answered, still not looking over his shoulder to the Sneasel. A snort that revealed a smirk to Cimm without him having to look at the other Pokemon left her.

”I see. You're not hungry because of the stress, right?”

”Why do you keep saying I'm stressed? I am not stressed!” Cimmerian exasperated rather loudly, though not enough to gather attention from the rest of the group. His bright yellow stare found its way at last to the crystal blue orbs belonging to his pestering underling. Her arms were full of berries, bread, and whatever other things he had stuffed into his bag, and her glare was sharp.

”Because you are stressed, idiot!” She shot back. Cimm reeled at the insult. He'd been called a lot of things before, but an idiot was never one of them. ”Like I said, I haven't known ya for long, but you definitely aren't acting the same as when I first met you. Ever since that... Letter.... Ah-ha! I knew it!”

Now Cimm was really lost, as well as irritated. His tail had unfolded itself from its fixed position and was now lashing wildly about like an electrified Ekans. ”Knew what?” He ground out through clenched and nearly bared teeth. The Sneasel looked triumphantly down at him.

”It's what was in that letter, isn't it?You're seriously worrying about what was written in it, aren't you?” He knew instantly that she was referring to the letter his team had received from Serrin. Her comment made him lose his words. Normally Cimm would be able to make a snappy 'no' as his comeback, but something in Nidhyana's tone made him think things would only get worse if he tried denying it.

”That is none of your business.” He decided on voicing. So what if he had been a bit irritated by that stupid letter after that stupid mission in which he did absolutely nothing? It was none of her concern! ”Why don't you go eat already like you said you would and leave me alone?”

”Sheesh, so sensitive!” The only reason Cimm could tell that she was using mock irritation was by the smile on Nidhyana's face as she replied to him. ”Don't worry about it, you overgrown kitten. I'm not gonna rub it in your face or run around telling everyone that you got your feelings hurt.”

Cimm didn't know what to say. Actually, he knew what he wanted to say, but he knew he shouldn't say it. Anything that came out of his mouth at this point would just backfire and seem to prove the Sneasel's point. So instead of saying anything at all the Luxio merely narrowed his eyes and abruptly turned his head away again. Nidhyana snickered behind him and turned around to head back for the fire that was still burning brightly. Just like that, he was left alone again to keep watch over the Eerie Bog as the clear skies allowed the moonlight to shine into the fog. He preferred it that way and hoped that his newest recruit would mind her distance and business. Her 'conversation' with him had already made him lose what little peace he had managed to hold onto during this tiresome trip. Now instead of just being able to ignore them all, he had the reminder of that dreadful letter floating around in his head.

It wasn't that Serrin's letter was rude. It was quite the factual letter that was to the point and let Cimm and his team clearly know how Serrin had felt they did during that awful trip into the Mystifying Jungle. No, it wasn't the writer who bothered him. It was the fact that really the only thing pertaining to the leader of the team in the letter was the mention of his mistake in splitting up the team. Because really, what else had he done?

”Stupid mission, stupid letter.” Cimm growled lightly under his breath, trying to focus on discerning whether his eyes were playing tricks on him, or if there were really shadows moving in the fog. ”Stupid Nidhyana.”

Being the expert in ignoring his own problems he was, Cimm eventually managed to shut off the fretting and irritated part of his brain and merely focus on the task of taking up station guard. A few minutes turned into a few hours and eventually the rest of his group settled down from their meal and all curled in on themselves to go to sleep for the night. Claudius slipped into the water for his slumber, Nuna used Kennick's shell as a mattress, and Nidhyana used it as a pillow. Soft snores were soon the only thing that could be heard aside from the lapping of the water against the rock they were on. Though he was nocturnal by nature, Cimm too soon began to feel the wear on his muscles from the day's hike and found himself struggling not to yawn or let his eyelids droop. He stood and shook out his fur a couple of times in an attempt to keep alert before a familiar presence came into his awareness.

”Yes, Mana?” He asked in a sluggish manner as he turned his face to his left. The spherical ghost became tangible quickly and offered him a small smile that he was unprepared for. He actually wondered if this was the first time he'd seen the spirit smile. Though he couldn't remember if it had or not, he wasn't usually one to care about such things anyways and blamed his random thoughts on fatigue.

”You know, I don't really need to sleep. I can keep watch for you until morning.” The Gastly's echoing voice whispered kindly. Cimm blinked his yellow eyes that gleamed in the moonlight and shook his head.

”Even if I did, I doubt I'd get any rest.” He grumbled in irritation as he plopped his rump down and scanned the area once more. Fog had gathered so thickly across the bog now that it had creeped up the side of the boulder they were on and blanketed most everything in sight. He wondered if he could actually scoop some of it out, it was so thick. A shudder ran down the cat's spine as his ears flicked in many directions. The sensation that he had when first entering the quagmire had steadily increased the deeper into the night they got. It was as if eyes were watching him from every direction. ”Don't you feel it?”

”It's like the bog itself lives.” Mana's already ominous sounding voice greatly amplified the creepiness of the comment it made. Cimm frowned and opened his mouth to tell the Gastly that it should never tell a horror story when his on-alert hearing picked up something.

Part Two

All the wariness fled from his body the moment he picked up on the sound. His spine stiffened as he sat upright and turned his head to his left, where they had been heading in the first place. His round ears stilled themselves and pointed in the direction he was looking, trying to cup the sounds and sift them into something more clear than the vague hum they were picking up currently. A dark cloud suddenly overcame the moon as he peered into the fog where the noises were emanating from. The abrupt plunge into darkness startled Mana a bit and the ghost became invisible once more, though Cimm knew it hadn't run away.

The Luxio's pupils dilated to catch what little light was left. His breathing hitched when the noise seemed to become clearer. It was a melody. A swift, elegant song that was drifting in the wind.

”Can you help me?”

”S-Sir? What's wrong?” Mana's voice cut through his concentration and he quickly hissed at the ghost to shut it up. He stood up and quickly went to the edge of the rock's slippery surface to stretch forwards as far as he could without falling into the water. Something about the song made him feel as if it were vital to hear.

”Or can I help you?”

”What...?” He murmured under his breath as he strained even harder to listen to the silky voice.

”Sir, what's going on?” Mana once again interrupted his focus, and he only slightly looked at the Gastly as it came up beside him and appeared once more.

”Shut up already! Can't you hear that?” His voice was quiet despite the harsh tone it carried. The cat felt his chest clench as an odd desperation to hear what the song's lyrics were saying as the tune continued.

”The only way to find out is if you desire to.

Hear my song, and know you cannot be wrong.

Let my voice be your guide if you want fortune on your side.”

”N-no I don't hear any- S-Sir!?” Mana's voice just barely reached Cimm before he took his first step into the water. Really, he didn't know why he wanted to suddenly search out the singer of the melody, but he felt like he needed to. Something about this was odd, though. He lifted a paw to take another step into the mire and stopped ever so slightly in confusion. Why was he going into the water again? And why was Mana suddenly sounding so concerned. He tried to make out what the Gastly was saying to him now, but the enchanting voice overtook his hearing as if whoever it was that was singing were right in front of him.

”Why do you hesitate when you know this is your fate?

Rejoice! For you have heard destiny's voice.

Come to me, come to me.

I'll set you free.”

And with that, Cimmerian could resist no more. The lure of the song was too great. It felt like whoever was beckoning him held a temptation too great to ignore. The lion leaped into the water, not feeling the cold liquid against his paws as his form was completely immersed by the fog. A startled shout seemed to sound from miles away behind him. He ignored it and began trudging through the moss, mud, and muck as fast as his ill equipped body could manage. Though the thick cover of fog blocked out his vision, it did nothing to stop the repeating song from reaching his senses. Though he could not see where he was going, he felt himself being guided by the voice. There was no doubt in his mind that if he kept going, he would eventually find the source he so desired to locate.

Cimm didn't know, or rather, wasn't aware of how long he had been traveling, nor did he feel the oncoming exhaustion in his legs until suddenly the repeating song was cut off. The moment the song came to a close mid-verse, the Luxio stopped and blinked. Only then did he notice he was neck deep in the bog and was very close to losing his grip on the muck underfoot. The urgent feeling of needing to follow the song vanished, leaving him with a dreadful empty feeling in his gut.

”What the hell...?” He muttered as soon as he realized he didn't know where he was and what he'd just done. He looked up to try and see anything overhead only for his vision to be completely impeded by the blanketing fog. ”Well this is just great.”

”Indeed.” The chilling voice that had once been singing made him freeze in his submerged position. Cimm didn't know how he could have been so careless! It was as if he had been literally possessed to come to this location and couldn't have even hoped to have gotten away even if he had tried. Still, he wasn't one to let himself be so easily caught up in nonsense and so far, this seemed ridiculous.

”Who's there? Show yourself!” He demanded as the feeling came back to his legs and he was able to slosh around to try and look in various directions for the one who had brought him here.

”Very well, then.” The disembodied voice laughed a charming giggle. Cimm frowned and squinted as he looked into the mist, realizing with a start that it was rapidly dissipating. Soon the entire area surrounding him was visible, and the moon was once more shining brilliantly onto the bog. The fog around him had cleared away in a large circle, uncovering giant lillypads that were bigger than four of him combined and the large pink flowers that rest elegantly atop the water alongside them, not a speck of moss in sight to cover the surprisingly clear water. But these beautiful growths of nature weren't what caught his eye. It was the forms of the three Pokemon with alarmingly red glowing eyes that held the center of his focus.

”Now that you have seen us, what are you going to do?” The voice that had reeled him into this position belonged to a stunning purple female Vaporeon. Her beaming red eyes were squinted from the seductive smile that curved her lips. By her side in the water was the bulky form of a Lapras that was sky blue in color, golden Kricketune poised in the lotus position on its back. All three had those unnaturally bright crimson eyes that unnerved him to a great degree. An ugly aura was rolling off of them despite their rather fantastic physical appearance. He could feel the menace coming at him in waves.

”I think a better question,” He began as he took a step backwards, ”Is what are you going to do now that I've seen you?” The question brought an immediate grin filled with malicious intent to the Vaporeon's already smiling face.

”I'll do what all sirens do to the ignorant souls that listen to our song.” She answered smoothly as she stood up in one swift motion, not even stirring the lilly she was on. ”Eat them alive, of course.”

”Of course, because why not, right?” Cimm groaned to himself even as he tensed in anticipation for the oncoming attack. It was really too bad he was mostly underwater, or else he could have found a way to actually avoid the wall of water that had appeared suddenly before him rather than get smacked back into the bog by it. The cat hadn't had a chance to hold his breath before being pushed completely under water and accidentally inhaled a mouthful of auqa rather than air. He clawed in a frenzy back up to the surface. Once he broke through he tried to take in a breath, but found himself choking on the water already lodged in his lungs and attempting to cough it out painfully. This wasn't easy to do when the water surrounding his immediate area froze without warning.

”Too easy.” The voice of the Vaporeon was dangerously close now, and Cimm found himself blinking up at the Pokemon with watery eyes while he hacked, gagged, shivered, and spewed all at once. She was standing on an ice path that she had clearly made herself on the water's surface and grinning madly down at him. He was really starting to hate this place. ”I don't understand why everyone wants my treasure so badly. I've let plenty go back to send back a warning. Though perhaps they were too weakened to survive the trip back through the bog to wherever they had come from.”

”I-if you don't want someone to t-take it,” Cimm panted as his near drowning episode subsided, though the rattle of liquid in his lungs was still evident. He had to buy some time. Surely his teammates were on his trail by now. Though with the fog, he doubted they would get there in time to keep him from freezing to death or drowning. ”Why don't you m-move it?”

”I would if I could, Kitten.” She sighed, making Cimm wince at the nickname. Had this Vaporeon overheard his conversation with Nidhyana or something? ”But alas, things are never so easy. You see, the treasure is right where it belongs. I could never let some greedy misfits make the same mistakes I have. Better to kill them all off before they hurt someone, you know?”

Cimm quirked a shuddering eyebrow at her. ”Actually I do-don't know. I have no friggin' clue what you're t-talking about.” He admitted, trying to create a charge inside his body as discretely as he could. The one good thing about being in water was the fact that it was so conductive. ”Maybe you could explain a-a little better?”

”Hm. Tempting, but, no. You couldn't understand my woes even if you had lived through them yourself.” The Vaporeon stated before sharply turning on her heel to head back down the path of ice she had created to go back to sitting on her lillypad.

”P-pretty sure if I lived through it, I could understand it.” He replied in deadpan as he watched the purple water Pokemon turn back to him with a sly smirk. She only shrugged and turned to look at her Lapras companion before nodding.

”Finish him. Then we can move on to the others.” Came the rather bored sounding command that sent the Lapras in motion towards Cimm's immobilized position. The Kricketune had gracefully leaped off of the large water type's back and landed beside the Vaporeon, both watching the Lapras with their fiery gazes. Cimm's eyes were also on the long necked reptilian as it neared. The Lapras stopped up short just before him and immediately took in a deep breath.

”Now or never.” Cimm grumbled as he took advantage of the moment between the Lapras' advance and attack that would leave the larger Pokemon open to his attack. The Luxio let loose at last the spark that had been growing inside of him, sending a shock wave of hot electricity through the water around him. It lit up the bog brightly for several long seconds, the sound of the enemy's cries reaching his ears as he jolted them. As soon as he had released what he had managed to gather, the light shut off and the screams stopped. He watched with a smirk of his own as the Lapras that had gone rigid when becoming a part of his circuit went limp and fell towards him. The direction in which the large Pokemon had fallen had merely been a matter of chance, and Cimm was grateful for this apparent turn of luck when its massive body broke apart the ice that had entrapped him.

The resulting wave also sent him several feet away from the group of insane Pokemon. He was able to reach out with his claws extended and grab hold of one of the round floating leaves before being swept away completely.

”Impressive!” The Vaporeon, who had been virtually unharmed alongside the Kricketune while standing on the leaf spoke up in a cheerful tone. Cimm ignored her as he climbed onto his own lillypad and stood on it with shaky legs. The leaf was a lot harder to balance on than what the natives of the bog made it seem like, but he quickly got the hang of it with his natural ability and was able to maintain his pride as he faced her.

”You should just leave me alone, you know. Water doesn't usually fight well against electricity.” He threatened in his deep voice that no longer shook with the cold, but was strained with exhaustion as he panted. The Vaporeon huffed irritably at him, but didn't manage to make a proper retort before they all heard the voices.

”No, no! Over there! It came from that direction!”

”Quit kicking me, you imbecile! I know where we're going!”

”Really? Cause' I can't see nothin'.”

”Indeed. This fog is becoming most disconcerting.”

”No need to curse, gosh! So rude.”

”You are an idiot.”

”I can feel them, they're right over-” Mana's voice suddenly cut short as the group of rather loud Treasure Hunters and their client waded into the ring that was clear of fog. The ghost and the others were all staring at the scene before them. Beautiful plants sitting atop water that was filled with scattered shards of sharp ice, an upside down and rather unconsious looking Lapras in the middle of the circle, two dazzling colored Pokemon with glowing red eyes staring at them, and a shaky looking Cimm across the way glaring furiously at them. ”...Here...”

”About time.” Cimm growled and turned instantly back to the opponent, using distraction as yet another opportunity to attack. He quickly sucked in a deep breath and let a grumble rise in his throat. That grumble evolved rapidly into a great roar that ripped itself from his throat, causing all eyes to go to him and startling everyone in the area. The Kricketune beside the Vaporeon even let out a frightened chirp and leaped back onto a further lillypad. Unfortunately the unexpected roar caused most of his team to freeze up. On the fortunate side, there was one Pokemon that seemed unfazed by this sudden outburst.

”Ehehe, I see how it is.” Nidhyana laughed as she leaped out of the water and jumped across to lilypads until it was standing next to the dazed Kricketune. She smiled with a wink at the bug type before quickly and mercilessly punching it with furled claws. This attack seemed to bring everyone into motion once more, as the Vaporeon snapped out of her own stupor and turned to the four other that had yet to join the fray.

”Leave! All of you! This is absolutely unacceptable!” The Vaporeon seemed much more enraged than it had ever been with Cimm alone. ”The treasure must not be found! You all must be punished!”

”Like I'd take discipline from a nobody like you.” Kennick scoffed as he shifted his stance in the water that was apparently still shallow enough where he was for him to touch the ground. He reeled back slightly before leaning quickly forwards and letting loose a large cannon of water barrel towards the Vaporeon temptress. The agile Pokemon was able to dodge the attack completely by jumping into the air, preparing an attack of her own mid-flight.

”Fools!” She screeched before letting loose a stunning beam full of color from her mouth. It was an ice type attack that Cimm hadn't seen before, but he was sure it would have been powerful enough to take out the dragon had not Claudius been there to summon a wave of water in its path. Instead of the Shellgon and Aron on its back being frozen solid, the wave of water iced over like a piece of sculpted art.

”Ah, my gratitude, Claudius.” Kennick quickly thanked the Starmie while ducking behind the newly formed ice structure for added security against any more icy attacks from the Vaporeon.

”My pleasure, Master Kennick.”

”Sir! Are you alright? I tried to stop you from going into the water, but it was like you were under a spell, and I'm so sorry, but I-” Mana's hushed and hurried voice caught Cimm's attention from observing the ongoing battles and he turned his head to his left to look at the ghost. The action of looking over so quickly made him dizzy and he struggled to keep his balance.

”I'm fine, I'm fine. Just... Go help them get rid of these lunatics or something.” He growled angrily, though the frustration was mostly directed at himself for being so incompetent once again on a mission.

”Sir, I- I don't think these Pokemon are attacking us of their own free will.” Mana whispered, large eyes darting back to where the red eyed Kricketune was rushing at Nidhyana in a flurry of jabs and slashes and the Vaporeon had once more come to stand on her landing pad. ”I think they have been possessed. I can feel the ghosts inside them, even in the Lapras.”

Cimm's jaw clenched as he processed this information. What could this mean? Something wasn't right here, and he was getting sick of all the nonsense. Gathering his strength and nodding a bit to dismiss Mana, he bunched his muscles and sprung the best he could over to the next lillypad over. This one was just adjacent to the one that the Vaporeon was standing on. Taking in a breath through his nose, the Luxio narrowed his eyes and puffed out his chest in a common authoritative stance for his species.

”Enough!” He bellowed loudly, though not quite at the decibel level he had roared at previously. It was enough to get the attention of everyone. The Vaporeon female whipped around to face him, red eyes flashing even brighter and white fangs glinting in the moonlight as she growled at him. He refused to lose his stance, however, and glared right back at the possessed creature. ”I know what you really are, siren. I thought I asked you to show yourself.”

The Vaporeon stopped growling and blinked in surprise at him. Then the wicked grin returned as she let out a chuckle. ”My, how clever we are!” she laughed, looking over sharply to her Kricketune partner and nodding once. Immediately the bug type nodded back, a red glow surrounding its body, lifting away from the form and becoming a shape of its own. Soon the glow left the Kricketune completely and the bug let out a groan and fell limply in an unconscious heap onto the lillypad.

”Woah!” Nidhyana gasped as she watched the events around the Pokemon she had just been battling unfold. Her blue eyes were focused on the red silhouette that was slowly dimming to reveal the completely intact body of a Duclops. ”Well that's a new trick.”

”Not to mention it was super awesome!” Nuna shouted ecstatically from her position on top of Kennick, who had moved around his ice pillar with Claudius to observe what was going on. ”I didn't know ghosts could do that much!”

”You have no idea.” The Vaporeon chuckled as she also began to glow a bright red. Just as with the Kricketune, the light lifted away from the possessed Pokemon and left an unconscious form behind as it itself solidified. As soon as the light was completely separated from the Vaporeon, the fog diminished greatly from a thick white wall, to a natural light mist clinging just barely to the water's surface. The light slowly took a more solid shape, revealing a Banette in its place once it was completely gone. There was a gasp from Mana that made the Banette chuckle. ”What, young Gastly? Never seen a possession before?”

Cimm looked around for the purple mass of gases that made up Mana, but the ghost Pokemon was staying well hidden. Its voice rang out well anyways. ”I-I didn't want to believe it... This is wrong! You- You can't-”

”What? Take over the bodies of thieves trying to steal the forbidden treasure and force them to protect it instead? How naive.” The Banette scoffed, shutting Mana up. The phantom tuned its gaze to Cimmerian once more and smirked with its zipper like mouth. n”Quite a pity to have been figured out, though I guess these bodies were getting a bit worn out. You have no idea how easy it is to trap greedy thieves like you with three attractive, singing Pokemon coupled with ghostly abilities. It's enough to drive away the natives and single out the thieves for easy pickings.”

”You're wrong.” Cimm hissed instantly, keeping his yellow glare trained on the Banette whose voice he was just noticing had changed when it had left the Vaporeon's body. It was still a feminine voice, just not as silky soft as the water type's had been. ”We're not thieves.”

”Oh? They what, pray tell, are you?” The Banette asked suspiciously, baring its long arms over its chest and looking down suspiciously at the cat.

”We are Treasure Hunters from the Guild of Eclipse.” He informed very matter-of-factly while maintaining his first stance. The ghost snorted.
n”Never heard of it. It sounds like the same thing to me.”

”No, it's not!” Nidhyana decided at this moment to jump in, both figuratively and literally. She landed beside Cimmerian on his floating leaf and turned to face the Banette directly. ”Though we do have a certain inclination to treasures and such, we hunt for treasure for the good of all Pokemon. The money we may or may not raise goes to our efforts to help those in need, as well as culturally enrich society.”

”Indeed, that is the truth!” Claudius' loud mental voice broke into the conversation as well, st=”Unlike the pirate who had this treasure sunk, we do not want it for selfish purposes.”

”Y-you know about m- Agatha?” The ghost seemed astonished as it turned quickly to look at the Starmie. Cimm squinted his eyes. Something about this subject seemed to throw the ghost off. Before he could fit the pieces together himself, Mana suddenly materialized beside him and looked tentatively up at the other ghost.

”You're her, aren't you? Agatha.” If Claudius' comment had surprised the Banette, Mana's had completely thrown it for a loop. The ghost floated with its mouth agape, staring over its shoulder at Mana. The Gastly shuddered and its gasses expanded and contracted, ”I can sense it... Somehow. You are Agatha, aren't you?”

”N-no! Of course not! You're a ghost, you should know how it works!” The Banette found its voice and turned back around to face Mana completely, who had flinched horribly when the other ghost shot out its comment. ”Don't go poking around in places you shouldn't be! Agatha was just my past life! I'm not her, I'm... I'm really not.”

”But you were.” Cimm clarified, trying to grasp the quickly escalating concept in his head. The Banette locked its eyes onto him once more. He could only see hurt and fear in its face where the crazy confidence had been. ”So, who are you now?”

The Banette watched him for a few more moments before answering, her expression becoming dull and conflicted before giving her answer. ”I.... have taken on the name of what the call me here- Siren. I am not her- that greedy plunderer who haunts me.”

Though Cimm thought about mentioning how ironic it was for a ghost possessing others to be haunted, or of the irony that an pirate would become a siren in its next life, he knew this wasn't the time or place. Plus, if he could move this conversation in the right direction, they may be able to get to the treasure without any more struggling. ”If you aren't her, then what are you doing here?”

”It isn't by choice!” The ghost shouted angrily at him, making Cimm flatten his ears back in an attempt to keep his own aggression at bay. He had to play it cool, even if he was grumpy, exhausted, and felt like he could throw up at any moment. ”She cursed it. The treasure. I'm bound by my past life to this damned mistake she made. I can't leave this place, yet I can't lift the curse. It's as if I am tethered by the treasure. The least I can do is protect it from anyone who would fall into the same fate as Agatha did, and get rid of those whose greed would bring about pain and suffering once more!”

”I'm so sorry...” Nidhyana spoke up at his side, voice filled with genuine grief for the agonizing soul. Cimm hummed and Siren scoffed.

”I don't need your pity. Just... Just leave!” Siren demanded, turning to its Dusclops companion and pointing at the still unaware Lapras, ”Go wake him up, that idiot.”

”Wait.” Cimm called out as the Banette started moving back to the form of the Vaporeon. ”Why haven't you tried to lift the curse yourself?” He asked carefully, eyeing the ghost to gauge its reaction.

”I can't even get near it. Not only was is it sunk into the deepest part of the bog, but whatever the curse's medium is, it blocks me from getting to close to it.” Siren mentioned with a note of curiosity in her voice. ”Why?”

”Well, I don't know much about curses, but maybe we can help you lift it.” He told the ghost, nodding once to himself as he turned his face to look at Claudius. ”You think you could recover the treasure and bring it to where we could inspect it?”

”Absolutely! There is no depth I can not reach!” The Starmie proclaimed proudly. Cimm rolled his eyes and looked to Nidhyana at his side.

”You mentioned earlier you know a bit about magic. Can you figure out how to undo the curse?” He asked the Sneasel, who blinked at him with bewildered eyes.

”I-I don't know that much... But I guess it would be worth a shot...” The Ice and Dark type replied hesitantly. Cimm grunted in satisfaction and looked at Siren.

”So. The way I see it, you could either live your life stuck in this horrid place, sticking to a fish's body and killing a but of burglars for the rest of your life,” He began, drawing an angered expression out of the Banette, “Or, you could let us see what we can do for you, free you from the curse, and give you the peace of mind knowing that the treasure isn't doomed to be used for greedy purposes ever again.”

”And how do I know that this isn't all a ruse to get my treasure and keep it for your greedy selves?” The Banette was quickly on the defense, glaring at him deeply and inking ever closer to the Vaporeon's body.

”If we can't lift the curse... We won't take it. We'll leave it here.” He negotiated, but got a firm shake of the head from Siren at that.

”No way. I need more insurance than that.”

”How about my body?” Nidhyana suddenly suggested with a smile, raising a clawed hand into the air. Everyone looked at her in confusion. ”You can possess me until all is said and done. I should be able to tell weather or not the curse can be lifted at just a glance. You won't even have to leave my body to be able to tell if I know or not. Pretty set insurance, wouldn't you say?”

Cimm thought it was a great idea. If the curse could be lifted, he'd get the treasure, and if it couldn't be lifted, he'd get some peace and quiet from one less rowdy body in the Team Room. But of course he couldn't say that. The deal wouldn't stick unless Siren thought she was getting something out of it. ”Wait, wait, wait. That's way to much to ask for.” He said in his best disagreeable voice.

”Yes, well... I think that sounds like an excellent deal.” Siren mentioned, leaving the purple Vaporeon's side to float over and examine Nidhyana from head to toe. ”You are quite the specimen. Yes. Yes I think that will do. A hostage to be paid as ransom for the release of my curse.”

”W-wait! Possession is wrong! You- you can't be-” Mana started to protest, but both Nidhyana and Cimmerian sent the ghost a glare that shut it up immediately. While Cimm's remained hard, the Sneasel's gaze softened greatly.

”Don't worry, Mana. I'll be fine. I don't mind at all.” The Sneasel comforted, though Mana still seemed very concerned. Nidhyana turned her attention to the leader of the group, ”Waddaya say, boss?”

Cimm pretended to think it over for a second by closing his eyes, furrowing his brows, and humming thoughtfully. He finally let out a sigh and nodded solemnly at the ghost. Siren's evil grin returned and almost immediately a red glow enveloped her. Soon her true form faded until she was nothing but a red silhouette of red light. A moment later and the light was enveloping Nidhyana.

”Ugh.... That... Does not feel good.” Was what the Sneasel managed to get out with a grimace before doubling over in pain. She wrapped her arms around her middle as she knelt on the lillypad, breathing harshly and squeezing her eyes shut tight.

”Glad I didn't volunteer for that position.” Nuna piped up without any real humor put in behind the comment.

”No kidding.” Was Kennick's reply as they all stood by and watched as the glow slowly dissipated from all but the Sneasel's eyes. Soon Nidhyana's breathing returned to normal and she slowly stood back to her full height, a very disturbing, out of place sort of smile on her face.

”Well, isn't this a good feeling? I haven't had a fresh body to work with in years.” Siren's voice came from Nidhyana's mouth, making Cimm get an odd sinking feeling in his gut that made him go on the defensive.

”Just remember the deal. Once we lift the curse, you leave her body and go your own way.” The lion growled with distrust. Siren flashed a toothy grin at him and lifted Nidhyana's arms into a shrug.

”I may have killed a few people in my time, but I'm not a liar.” Cimm shook his head and scowled at the possessed Sneasel.

”Let's just get going already.” He growled impatiently, wanting to get this over with once and for all. Siren nodded enthusiastically and turned to face the West, sucking in a breath and letting it out lightly. The breath was chilled to a sub-zero temperature and froze the ice in front of them on contact to create a sort of pathway as she had using the Vaporeon's body. This time, though, the path was wide enough for two Pokemon to walk side by side if they wished and not worry about falling over the edge. ”Nuna, Kennick, stay here and watch these guys in case any of them wake up.” He ordered, getting both relieved and complaining comments, which he ignored either way.

The four remaining, counting Nidhyana and Siren as one, began trekking towards the treasure. Siren opened up a path of ice for she and Cimm to walk on the whole way while Claudius stayed in the water and Mana followed them from someplace while remaining invisible. They actually hadn't been more than five minutes into their hike when Siren stopped and pointed directly down.

”It's right here under us.” She said with assuredness. Cimm cocked an eyebrow in mock suspicion.

”That was awfully quick.” He mentioned wondering if Nuna and Kennick could still hear him if he yelled out to them. Nidhyana-Siren shrugged her shoulders.

”I told you I'm tethered to it. Why do you think I had the thieves come to me instead of going to them?” She had a point, but was unwilling to admit that he wasn't in his top form at the moment and thus couldn't really think too straight about things he would have normally noticed already. Instead he looked at Claudius and gave him a growl, signaling that the Starmie should have already went down to retrieve the treasure. The starfish seemed to catch his drift and hurriedly dove down under the water.

The three waited in tense silence for Claudius to resurface with the treasure in tow. The moment he did would determine Nidhyana's fate, as well as that of the team. Cimm was already doubting his decision to let the ghost take over his newest recruit's body. What if that decision had been a major mistake, just as his order to pair off during the guild wide mission had been? There was no guarantee that this curse could even be lifted, yet he had carelessly risked the life of his team member. Not only that, but now that he thought about it, he had split them up again and had left a dragon and a rock type to fend for themselves against potentially frightened and hostile water and ice type Pokemon.

”s**t.” Was all that he could grumble, catching the confused look Siren gave him before splashing at the surface next to them caught their attention immediately. The first thing to surface was a medium sized trunk, smaller than Cimmerian himself was. The sight of the object sent Siren screeching and sprawling away from the chest as quicly as she could.

n”S-set it down at the end of the ice, quickly!” She demanded in what was almost a hiss. Cimm nodded quickly and reached out to help Claudius with the the heavy object as he lifted it from the water. The first thing Cimm noticed about the wooden chest were the two locks on it. Both of them were old and lime covered, no doubt weakened over the decades it had been submerged below the water's surface. The first lock was small and connected to the latch of the container. The second lock was hooked around the first lock's bars, as well as what looked to be a dazzling blue ring made up of some sort of stone. The shiny, smooth texture of the thick band stood out greatly in comparison to the worn out look of the chest and locks.

Before Cimm could ask anything, Siren gasped loudly and brought his attention around to her. Tears were in the Sneasel's red eyes and its body was trembling greatly. ”Sh-she can... She can do it! She knows how!”

”She can?” Cimm questioned in shock. He had been hoping she would be able to, but to know so quickly had caught him off guard. Siren nodded quickly and a red glow surrounded Nidhyana immediately afterwards. Siren removed herself from as fast as she could and left the true Nidhyana in a crumpled heap on the ice. ”Woah, you okay there?” Cimm asked in a rush when Nidhyana groaned and tried to push herself up.

”What's this...? Is that... Concern I hear?” She laughed airily through her painful smile. Cimm scoffed and frowned, but kept near to the Sneasel in case she needed support as she stood. He justified the action as helping to speed things up. ”I'm okay. It just feels like I've been beaten up in places I never thought I'd have.”

”Correction; You were beaten up in places you never would have known about before, you didn't just feel that.” Siren floated at a greater distance from them now as she called out. n”You have a beautiful should, by the way. It was kind of hard to get in control, even!”

Nidhyana seemed to shudder at both of the comments and rubbed both of her arms as if she were cold. Which was disconcerting considering she was part ice type. Cimm decided to ignore Siren for the time being and focused on the task at hand. ”Tell me how to get rid of that curse.”

”It's ac-actually quite easy.” the Sneasel said with a weak smile. She pointed at the chest, where Claudius was having a Miltank over the thing and rambling on about making history and other nonsense. ”Its an old seal trick. Just break the item of importance away from the chest and the curse will be gone. Get rid of the bracelet.”

Cimm looked over disbelievingly to the shimmering ring. Could it really be that simple? He hummed and left Nidhyana's side, stalking over on cold paw pads to the chest and lifting a paw to examine the ring and lock. The lock looked pretty weak, all he'd have to do was yank on it a few times and it should come apart. Wondering just how weak it was, the cat gave the ring an experimental tug. He almost choked on the air when the lock holding the ring in place snapped as if it had been made out of dry seaweed and not metal. He held the blue ring in his paw awkwardly for a moment before turning slowly around and looking in slight worry to Nidhyana. Was it really that easy?

”I'm... I'm free!” Siren exclaimed loudly, flying forwards quickly and snatching away the ring from Cimm's grasp and twirling up into the sky with it, holding it at arm's length. She laughed and sobbed at the same time as she ascended, holding the ring close to her heart.

Was it seriously that easy?

”So this means we get the treasure, right?” Claudius spoke in slight confusion, unsure of what had really just happened. Siren laughed from above and dove down to them on the ice bridge once again.

”Yes, yes! Take it, please! I'm finally free thanks to you... And you gave me this!” The Banette happily told them while wiping her eyes with one hand and holding out the ring with the other. Cimm sighed through his nose as he looked between the ghost and Nidhyana in confusion.

”And what exactly is that? It looks like a normal bracelet to me.” He huffed, not really caring but figuring he should ask anyways in case it was some evil ancient artifact that passed the curse onto him instead of the chest or something dramatic like that.

”It was Agatha's. She wore it in her long mane, like all of her species did.” Siren informed them as she once again hugged the blue ring, ”I feel like a piece of me has been lost and was just returned to me.”

Nidhyana hummed and placed a claw to her chin, ice blue eyes narrowed in thought. ”What species was Agatha, exactly?”

”A Zoroark, why?” Claudius' gasped out loud at Siren's answer. The others looked at him as he waggled his fins about frantically.

”That makes so much sense! No wonder there were so many different rumors about her species! She could take on the form of any Pokemon she wanted. Wow! So amazing! History is fantastic!” And with that, the Starmie was once again rambling off in his own little world, leaving Cimm out and uninterested. The Luxio looked tiredly at the sky when he realized his eyes were burning.

”Oh, Arceus. It's dawn already?” He groaned, not believing he'd just spent over twenty fours hours awake. He hadn't done that in years. Nidhyana chuckled next to him.

”Well, we did it, right? Found came to the bog, found the treasure, and now all that we need to complete your exceedingly simple plan is to go back home, right?” The Sneasel laughed, patting the cat roughly on the back and making him sway a bit.

”Yeah, that sure was simple, huh?” He grumbled sarcastically, already planning on how to maneuver the chest through the miles of water they had to walk back through in order for him to get back to the sanctuary that was the Guild. For some reason, though, he just couldn't think of a way. His eyes watered some and without warning, a yawn stretched open his mouth.

”But... Maybe first a quick nap, Kitten?” Nidhyana laughed playfully, and it was all Cimm could do to muster up a glare when Siren joined in on her laughing.

”Just a quick one. Then we're heading nonstop back to the Guild, got it?” He said while trying not to break his sentence with another yawn. Nidhyana snickered again as she went over to grab the trunk and drag it back until she was behind him to nudge him back the way they came on the ice bridge.

”I got it, you ball of high strung yarn. Let's go already.”

Cimm had no objections as they made their way back down the ice path.

Curiously (or perhaps not), once again Team Moonlighter would be greeted not by their own sector leader, but by the Aurorus who was the head of exploration--or so it first appeared because of his massive size; further examination would reveal an interested-looking Barcel standing there as well, in the shadow of his larger coworker, a light in his eyes that was rather dissimilar to his usual irritated expression. "So... Did you find it?" the Empoleon said, stepping forward when they arrived. His eyes passed over them swiftly, locking onto the chest they had brought with them almost immediately and looking as though he might pounce on it at any second.

Claudius chuckled, nudging Barcel back with a gentle nudge of the leg. "Give them room to breathe Barcel," he said lightly, ignoring the irritated grumbling he got for his trouble. Looking back to the Team and their client he dipped his head to them in greeting. "Don't mind my presence. When I heard whose treasure you were seeking I simply had to be here for the results. Agatha has been a great mystery to historians, and if you chanced upon success I didn't intend to miss the findings for my own records." The Aurorus was clearly excited, though far less vocally than their client who shared his name, but his eyes also strayed to the chest that they'd been carrying.

"Get on with it already!" Barcel commanded from the side, rolling his eyes at Claudius. "There's no point in wasting everyone's time." All eyes turned to the client as the Empoleon gestured for the Starmie to open up the chest, and the smaller Claudius seemed to be slightly nervous as he used his Psychic to maneuver through the inner workings of the lock, holding his breath when he heard the soft click of the lock yielding to his energy. With some trepidation, the Starmie leaned over and pulled on the lid with two of his arms and it came open easily, revealing the contents inside.

Eyes widened and a few gasps were heard, one coming from the client himself, as they stared at the wealth that lay within the chest. A mixture of ancient coins and gems of many colors sparkled before their eyes, with the ends of a few significant artifacts peeking out through the top and almost certainly more to be found once the smaller currencies were sifted through. Barcel's eyes were wide and his face wore an expression of triumph as he laughed out loud, clearly pleased. "The treasure of Agatha, the Queen of Pirates! This is one for the books!"

Claudius nodded, the exploration leader's eyes drawn to a thin stack of papers that had been tucked down the side, and there was a hunger for knowledge in them that didn't fade. "Quite right," the Aurorus murmured, itching to look at the less shiny contents of the chest. "Well done Team Moonlighter."

"Was there more?" Barcel's question was abrupt, but it needed to be answered. When he learned that this was all there was the Empoleon frowned a bit, but maintained a greater semblance of contentment than he would have in most other situations. "Well, this is likely worth a fortune as is, considering its origins. Good work you lot." It was probably one of the highest expressions of praise the Empoleon had given to a Team yet.

The members of Team Moonlighter were dismissed shortly after, absent their rewards since the client had apparently been relying on the treasure to help him finance their reward, a thought which Claudius the Aurorus shut down almost immediately. When the group left, they would hear the exploration leader having an intense discussion with the Starmie about the value of this find and the necessity that it be properly analyzed and preserved, with Barcel standing silently to the side and allowing his coworker to handle it. The pair worked out an agreement that the Starmie would surrender the treasure provided he was compensated fairly for the work he'd done and the value of his find, so each Claudius left the affair happy and with considerably valuable treasures in his possession.

Later that evening, Claudius the Starmie would return with a delightfully heavy sack of rewards for Team Moonlighter. "Once again you should know that you have my deepest gratitude," he said fervently. "I would never have been able to pull off such a feat of my own accord, and I only hope that this is good enough compensation for all that's you've done. If, however, you would indulge me in one final request, I would be much obliged. You see, this work that we have done together has made me quite passionate about the things that you do, and I believe we have developed a pleasant rapport with one another. Therefore, I wish to humbly request that you consider making me an addition to your Team."

"I'm going to stop you right there." A familiar voice echoed in the air and a Banette wearing a blue ring on her head tassel phased into existence with an eerie smile. Claudius flinched back from the ghost of Agatha, and she turned to the Team with an amused shake of the head. "You see, now that I'm free of that wretched place, I intend to see as much of the world as I can manage. I still don't know what you 'Guild Treasure Hunters' are, but if your job took you to the bog then I imagine you go all sorts of places since I haven't seen you around before." The Banette beamed at them in a way that seemed somewhat more friendly than menacing for a change. "You're the ones who freed me, so I figure I owe you one if you want me. That's why I'm asking you first instead of going off on my own."

"The same is true for me." A third voice came from behind the pair of familiar faces and a third recognizable figure stepped into view. A delicate Kricketune the color of delicate gold, deliberately keeping her eyes off of one of the ghosts who had tricked she and her companions. "I cannot remain in that place any longer, not after what has been done to my friends and me, and I am looking for a place to begin again."

All three had compelling reasons and arguments, but the rules dictated that only one of them could be chosen: who that was, if anyone, was left to the members of Team Moonlighter to decide.

Rewards:
-2 MP
-1200 PD
-Payday TM
-Aqua Gem
-Starmie, Banette, or Kricketune Recruit

Treasure Hunter Bonus:

-The chest that the Team returned with contained many marvelous treasures within despite its deceptive size. Claudius, true to his word, offered them a healthy portion of the value of the treasure that had been paid to him, which led to Team Moonlighter receiving another 1000 PD in addition to their other rewards.

((Excellently well done Rae! It may have been a long mission but it was well worth the payoff. Although it had several points that were low in action, the suspense that permeated the piece made it interesting even when there wasn't much going on physically. I liked the exploration of how the Team functions together as a unit now that some time has passed as well as with the addition of Nidhyana, your setting was interesting and you took a turn with things that was effective and not necessarily what would be expected. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as always! My one critique is that the ending was, as Cimm was very aware of, rather too convenient. I'm assuming that you have plans for that in the future, or else were worn down by the end and just wanted to meet the deadline, both of which are acceptable. I just wanted to be sure that you knew that it was somewhat unrealistic for it to be that easy, and that is a noticeable fact, though the rest of the story mostly makes up for it. My only other comment is that, while I appreciated the length and I don't think it hurt your story in the slightest, you really don't have to write something this long. xD People like you and I can get a little carried away with our stories, and then other people who have a harder time digesting such large works can be frustrated because they want to see the new developments but can't do it easily. We can work on keeping things a bit more manageable together~ Regardless though, this was great throughout and I felt that there wasn't any excess and it easily held my interest, so please don't think that I'm telling you the length was bad in a craft sense--more in a target audience sense. Again, great job and I'm excited to see what develops in the future! Also, side note, I know I gave you a bigger bonus last mission but that's not an indicator that it was worse, we just adjusted the TH rewards so that the cap is 1000PD: maybe that gives you some idea of what I thought of it!))

Nidhyana leaned against the doorway and looked into the room she now shared with her team, observing their guests quietly. Claudius, Siren, and the golden Kricketune were inside, surrounding an irritated looking Cimmerian who had been trying to nap in the sun shining through the open window. Nuna was currently bouncing around excitedly with the prospect of a new recruit while Kennick and Mana were nowhere to be seen. The Sneasel was only sure that the dragon wasn't actually still in the room.

"We're not looking to recruit anyone right now." Cimm rather gruffly explained as he sat up on his bed and glared at the three. The Banette didn't seem to be phased by the intimidating look, unlike the Starmie and Kricketune who backed away immediately.

"What? That sucks! I wanted the shiny gem fish!" Nuna's complaints were ignored by all present in the room, though it seemed to unnerve the starfish more than he already was.

"Whatever, that is certainly fine by me." Siren nonchalantly informed him with a wave of her ghostly hand. Claudius seemed a great deal more offended, though.

"I-I have to disagree Master Cimm! After our journey into the Bog and the magnificent findings we were able to collect by combining my knowledge with your prowess you surely cannot deny the fact that you would certainly find my position amongst your ranks quite valuable to the Team's dynamics!" The Starmie hurriedly spoke, waving its pointy arms around wildly in defense of its desire to be on the team. The Sneasel watching couldn't help but to chuckle at the guy's earnest attitude. But one look at the Luxio in question revealed he wasn't nearly as amused as she was.

"Yeah, I'm sure you would." The cat started in a dull tone, "But here's the thing; You talk too much."

During Claudius' too-stunned-to-reply reaction, the golden bug decided to also speak up. "If I am not welcomed here, I will surely be able to find a place elsewhere."

"I'm sure you can!" Nidhyana spoke up cheerfully, turning the attention to herself, "I'm sure you wouldn't want to room with a grumpy Kitten like Cimm anyways. Ther're plenty of other good teams and places to live around these parts." The Luxio being mocked growled lightly and gave her a narrowed glare that Nidhyana tried to ignore.

"Maybe I'll do just that. Thank you anyways for your time and freeing me." The Kricketune mentioned politely, though still sounding a bit ticked off, before heading out of the room as fast as his little legs would carry him. Nidhyana pointedly raised an eyebrow at Cimmerian, then looked at the two remaining guests.

"Not to be a bother and interrupt or anything, but I was actually wondering if I could borrow you for a bit, Siren." The Sneasel asked, her blue gaze focusing on the Banette. Siren, in turn, crossed her arms and gave a snide looking grin and narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"Oh? And what does that mean, exactly?" Nidhyana shrugged innocently in reply and gave a mischievous smile of her own.

"Well, I actually have an interest in the more mystical side of things. So I was wondering if you could spare a favor and teach me a few things." She explained, reaching up to nervously play with her blue feathered ear. It always made her a bit jittery to ask something of someone, it always made her feel a bit selfish. Her icy gaze flicked over to Cimm quickly. "If that's okay with you both."

Cimm rolled his yellow eyes and lay back down with a huff, showing clearly without any words that he did not, in fact, care at all about her dealings. Siren was humming thoughtfully as she floated closer to the Sneasel. Claudius was getting more fidgety as this happened, and also scooted closer to her.

"Wait! Even if I cannot join your team at the moment, surely there is something I can help you with that would be of great benefit to you!"

"Of course there is." Cimm spoke up instantly in the midst of tucking his paws under himself. The Starmie turned to look at him. "I admit you're filled with information. So, if we do need you, you'll be an informant."

Claudius perked up at this, "C-certainly! Anytime you require information or knowledge on a subject, please find me! I would be more than willing to offer my services.... Though it may be difficult yo locate me at times. Are you sure I wouldn't be more useful to you if I were actually on the team?"

"You're not worth anything to me dead, and I can't promise I won't kill you if you were in this team." Cimm's toneless voice sent a shiver down Nidhyana's spine and probably would have Claudius's too if he'd had a spine. The look in the Luxio's gaze was one of finiality and seriousness that apparently got across to the Starmie.

"Yes... W-well then, I'm off! Claudius suddenly let out with a mental burst of slight panic. The fish turned and waddled quickly out the still open door to escape the potentially deadly fangs of the glaring cat. Nuna bounded after him in a rush.

"Wait! Why don't you leave that shiny rock on your face here for safe keeping!?" The Aron was shouting as it took off after the Starmie. Nidhyana and Siren chuckled at almost the exact same time and looked at each other afterwards.

"Quite the little group you've found yourself in." The Banette grinned and Nidhyana nodded in agreement. It was nothing if not interesting, to say the least, to be a part of the Moonlighters.

"So do you think you could show me a thing or two?" Honestly she would have asked Mana a while ago for some tips on ghosts, but the Gastly seemed to be very wary of her. They hadn't even spoken since they'd met, and even then Cimm had been there as a mediator. She supposed there were some underlying issues to the small ghost's aversion to her and didn't want to push Mana away by pressuring it. On the other hand, Siren was currently handy and available.

"Sure I can. For maybe a little PD in exchange. I will be needing some things from the market if I'm going to be traveling, after all." Siren smoothly answered, looking now back at Cimmerian who was now paying more attention to the conversation.

"Some gratitude that is." The Luxio grouched and shifted on his cushion. "But whatever. As long as I can use whtever you're gonna teach her, I'll pay a reasonable amount. A modest amount." He added the extra sentence as if reiterating his unwillingness to cough up the cash.

"Of course! You don't really think I'd take advantage of you, do you?" The Banette laughed, and the two teammates shared a disbelieving look before the ghost Pokemon continued. "So, shall we go someplace more suitable for a bit of training, my young pupil?"
