A New Beginning...

"...What happened?"

"Well, there was an accident, and..."

"Idiot child! You broke the mirrors."

"Yes... I'm sorry. They're broken, but I still think they're beautiful."

"Of course you would. I suppose we'll have to throw them out now."

"No, but we mustn't! I can't throw it all away!"

"Hmm..."

"What else can I do?"

"...Take that one there. It's not as broken as all the others."

"Wh-what do I do with it?"

"Fix it! Take the shards from all the others and crush them into powder. Use it to fill all the cracks."

"But won't that be an incomplete mirror?"

"It'll be perfect once the dust settles. Might even be better than the others, who knows? Don't break it again. Remember, you wanted it. It's your responsibility."

"Y-yes... I understand. I won't forget."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was once a time when the Sky People were a plentiful tribe, always engaging in peaceful communication with all the other peoples of the world.
It is said that they held the knowledge to communicate with the Crystals - most everyone knows that. But it is also said that they possessed four mirrors with unknown properties.
It is true that the existence of these mirrors, or rather, the knowledge of their existence, was what invited the tragedy.
It is also true, perhaps, that the terrible wars could have been prevented with the magic of the Sky People.
Regardless, everyone knows of the results: the Tribe of the Sky disappeared from the world, supposedly never to be seen again, and their power vanished along with them, leaving their former home in ruins.
The remaining tribes have spread out from one another since those days, ever fearing the home of the lost tribe, deeming it to be cursed.
Thoughts of the Crystals' power, as well as the search for the mirrors, have been buried in the sands of time, forgotten by many.
But for some, the search will never be over...

It happened not in a burgeoning city or regal castle, but in a tiny, hardly-known village. The first mirror was found.
No one could have known then what we all know now: that it would be the worst mistake made in history.
With news of the mirrors' existence, it wasn't long before another war began. Though in the following years, the fighting finally trickled to a halt, it left scars on every country involved.

It is well known that our world is filled with wonders.
The mastery of the world's magic grants even the most common people abilities beyond their imaginations.
So strange, then, that such a small thing as a mirror, and the powers it might bring, could cause those people to attack and kill one another without a single thought.
A dangerous thing, indeed.

In the year 398, in the Eleventh Age of Amara,
a time when the world would soon be passed down to the young ones whose lives were devastated by that selfish, foolish war,
our tale begins...

THE CAST

Main Characters

Support/NPC

Groups and Factions

There is a group known as the Trinity Club whose main purpose is to find the remaining three legendary mirrors. They have members all over the world, and they accept anyone, good, bad, neutral, they don't care, as long as you're trying to find the mirrors. It should be noted that this group will be the heroes' main antagonists for some time, though how long is anyone's guess.

WORLD CULTURE & LORE

ELEMENTS

Every living thing, from intelligent tribes to the smallest monsters, is born with an elemental affinity. This affinity affects many things, not least of which is that being's aptitude with certain tools and abilities. To put it into simpler terms, someone born with a Thunder affinity would deal more damage by casting Thundara than they would with, say, Fira or Gravira.

Most elements fit into a group which has been symbolized by some tribes with an intricate crystal symbol, and others by an hourglass shape. There are three elements outside of this group, which do not directly affect any of the other elements.

The "strengths" and "weaknesses" of elements are in regards to attack power as well as defense. For example, if you are of an element that is "weak" to Fire, as Ice is, that means that you not only take more damage from Fire-element attacks, but you also deal less damage to Fire-element targets. Contrariwise, if you were strong against Fire, that would mean that you deal more damage against Fire-element targets and take less damage from Fire-element attacks. I am not going to get strict with this. Just do your best to remember what you're strong/weak against and we'll all float on alright already.

The Hourglass

This group can be further split into two separate triangles. The elements in this group give and take from each other in several separate cycles. Earth, for instance, deals more damage to Lightning and Wind than to other elements, while also taking more damage from Ice and Water.

Fire

Strong against Ice and Wind, its weaknesses are Water and Lightning. Attacks of this kind also tend to be strong against some types of undead.

Examples of Fire abilities: The Fire spell set (Fire, Fira, etc.), Fire Breath, Meltdown, Beta, Flare, Ardor

Chief Fire-element Eidolon: Phoenix

Ice

Ice is strong against Lightning and Earth but weak against Fire and Wind.

Examples of Ice abilities: The Blizzard spell group (Blizzard, Blizzara, etc.), Freeze, Avalanche, Iceshot, Ice Breath, Freezeblink

Chief Ice-element Eidolon: Shiva

Lightning

Lightning, the final piece of the first triangle, strikes hard against Fire and Water, but takes extra damage from Ice and Earth.

Examples of Lightning abilities: The Thunder spell group (Thunder, Thundara, etc.), Trine, Electrocute, Thunder Slash, Hallowed Bolt, Thunder Breath

Chief Lightning-element Eidolon: Odin

Earth

Earth is more powerful against Wind and Lightning, and its weaknesses are Water and Ice.

Examples of Earth abilities: Stone group of spells (Stone, Stonera, etc.), Quake, Tremor, Earth Shake, Break

Chief Earth-element Eidolon: Titan

Wind

Strong against Water and Ice, but weak against Earth and Fire.

Examples of Wind abilities: Aero group of spells (Aero, Aerora, etc.), Tornado, Gale, Wind Slash, Twister

Chief Wind-element Eidolon: Garuda

Water

Water is more powerful against Earth and Fire, but weak against Lightning and Wind.

Examples of Water abilities: Water group of spells (Water, Watera, etc.), Flood, Aqua Breath, Torrent

Chief Water-element Eidolon: Leviathan

The Third Triangle

This group acts much differently from the other group. Two of the elements, Light and Shadow, are diametrically opposed to one another, while the third does not affect any other element.

Light

Both causes stronger damage and takes more damage to and from Shadow.

Examples of Light abilities: Holy, Judgment, Angel Whisper, Holy Strike, Saint Cross, Banish

Chief Light-element Eidolon: Eden

Shadow

Both causes stronger damage to and takes more damage from Light.

Examples of Shadow abilities: Dark, Doomsday, Darkside, Sanguine Sword

Chief Shadow-element Eidolon: Anima

Restore

Also known as the element of Life. Has no greater or lesser effects on any other element.

Examples of Restore abilities: Cure spell group (Cure, Cura, etc.), White Wind, Raise, Protect, Shell, Reflect

Chief Restore-element Eidolon: Asura

Some abilities have no element. Non-elemental damage has none of the advantages other elements have over each other, but it has none of their weaknesses, either.

TRIBES

((Pictures coming soon!))

I'm going to be very lenient on this; your character can be almost any race that is present in the Final Fantasy series. The ones which are restricted are done so for reasons. The reasons for this are either to keep things more simple, or that some of those tribes will be available at a much later time in the story. For simplicity's sake, here are the restricted ones first (it's a shorter list):

Ivalice-only tribes (Bangaa, Viera, Nu Mou, Ivalician Moogle, Aegyl, Baknamy, Garif, Gria, Seeq)

Crystal Chronicles tribes (Clavat, Lilty, Yuke, Selkie, Lunite)

Beastmen and Ascians

Extinct tribes
Gulgans - blind sages who could see the future. They predicted a great calamity.
Sky People - lived among the clouds ages ago

And that's it! Everything else, pretty much, is allowed:

Humanoid tribes

Humans - Very versatile tribe with various skill possibilities, this tribe inhabits many of the kingdoms and settlements on the surface world.

  • Centra - The last traces of the Ancients who inhabited the country of the same name. Live closely with nature and have no modern cities.
    Class examples: Geomancer, Pictomancer

  • Lufenians - Also known as Lufaine, these are the only descendants of the Sky People. They usually keep to themselves, staying in their own city.
    Class examples: White Mage, Scholar

  • Summoners - An ancient tribe who are able to communicate with Eidolons. They commit their lives to studying them.
    Class examples: Summoner, Monk

  • Hyur - The most commonplace type of Human in modern times, they are generally skilled in many areas.
    Class examples: Knight, Oracle

Gnomes - Tiny folk about the size of your finger, they live in their own miniature civilizations, usually protected from the bigger races. One would have to be under the status Mini to enter one of these places.
Class examples: Mime, Warrior

Dwarves - A tribe short of stature compared to Humans, they spend their time in mountains and caves. Dwarves are naturally excellent miners and their blacksmiths are generally more skilled than those of other races.
Class examples: Gladiator, Viking

Elves - Generally peaceful folk who tend to live in forest kingdoms.

  • Elezen - Thought of as a wise and powerful tribe
    Class examples: Bard, Thief

  • Dark Elves - Branched off from their Elezen cousins to pursue darker powers.
    Class examples: Ranger, Necromancer

Lalafell - Small folk who are skilled in agriculture and work well with animals.
Class examples: Beastmaster, Black Mage

Werewolf - Not werewolves by the usual sense, these are actually anthropomorphic wolves who do not change form.
Class examples: Red Mage, Berserker

Roegadyn - Large, muscular humanoid race with wolf-like features.
Class examples: Warrior, Gladiator

Miqo'te - Feline race split into two separate cultures.
Class examples: Archer, White Mage

Burmecian - Anthropomorphic rat tribe divided into two separate cultures.
Class examples: Dragoon, Dancer

Au Ra - Humanoid race thought to be descended from Dragons.
Class examples: Dark Knight, Dragoon

Faerie - Small winged beings with incredible magical power. They have been around since even the days of the Ancients.
Class examples: Ranger, Time Mage

Mermaid - Aquatic tribe that is, without intervention in the form of extremely powerful enchantment, restricted to the water.
Class examples: Bard, Oracle

Hypello - Bipedal amphibians who are agile in water, but slow walkers on land.
Class examples: Geomancer, Evoker

Qu - Mysterious folk who generally commit their lives to food, perfecting their skills as cooks. They live longer than most other Human-like races.
Class examples: Blue Mage, Chemist

Lunarian - inhabitants of the Moon, extremely powerful magically. They live much longer than the tribes of the planet.
Class examples: Sage, Mystic Knight

Hummingway - Anthro rabbit race from the Moon that tends to speak by humming.
Class examples: Bard, White Mage

Creature tribes

Chocobos - Well-known as riding mounts and beasts of burden, domesticated Chocobos are found on farms and other properties, while most of them roam free in the wild. Though they use no method of speaking other than Chocobo sounds (Kweh!), they are not unintelligent, and can usually pick up on the feelings and behaviors of the speaking tribes. There are many different breeds of Chocobo, each with different skills.
Ability examples: High-speed running, Chocobo Kick, flying (Gold)

Moogles - Perhaps the most well-known speaking creature tribe, Moogles can be found just about everywhere. They run a mail service called Mognet.
Ability examples: Geomancy (Dancing), flying (short distances)

Dragons - Some are highly intelligent and form their own societies outside the percieved realm of humanoid tribes, while others have lost their senses and roam about like other wild monsters. Said to have great powers, though they tend to stay out of the affairs of the other tribes.
Ability examples: Breath (various), flying, tremendous strength

Wind Drakes - Also known as Wyverns, they are much better at flying than their smaller-winged brethren, and can stay aloft in the air for long spans of time.
Ability examples: High-speed flying

Gargants - Huge blue insects which roam about underground. They are very timid and like to mind their own business, going out of their way to avoid monsters, as well as water, as they can't swim. Eat a strange subterranean flower called Gargant Grass.
Aility examples: Cling to surfaces

Lions - Large red cats with intelligence on the same level as Humans. They hail from mountains and canyons and are very family-oriented, forming tight-knit clans.
Ability examples: High-speed running, Magic use

Other tribes

Eidolon - All Eidolons live in another realm known as the Feymarch and only make appearances on the surface world when called by a member of the Summoner tribe or an Evoker.

If I missed any tribes that you think should be on this list, PLEASE let me know!

ABOUT CLASSES

Like I've said a few times, I'm trying to make this RP as simple as it can possibly get while still having a good plot. This means that, for the most part, I do not give a flying flock of flamingos what class you want, you can have it - within reason. If it is an actual Final Fantasy job class, it is okay by me, unless it completely goes against whatever tribe your character is from. Now, for the most part, I won't let things like size (Faeries, Gnomes) or different body parts (Mermaids, Dragons) keep your character from having a job. ((Hey, I'm willing to believe that somebody makes Gladiator armor for someone the size of a Faerie!)) But if it's something they DEFINITELY wouldn't or couldn't pull off, I'll restrict it. Same goes for abilities, armor, weapons, etc. Other than those cases, everything's pretty much fair play, with one tiny exception: Summoning.

Until a certain point in the story, the Summoner Class is restricted to only the Summoner tribe. For other tribes who wish to summon Eidolons, there is the Evoker Class. I will describe the differences between these two in the Eidolon section. Other than this special case, everything else is free for pretty much all tribes.
