As soon as news of a new Inn being built close to the border of Sauti and Zena caught wind in Mez, many people had traveled out to see it. Ogbonna's family, though missing a few members who were travelling, had saddled up early on in the day to check it out. The after effects of the war were still weighing heavy upon the family, and even more so on Ogbonna. He had seen so much during his tour there and though the majority of his wounds had healed up, the emotional scars still lingered. He wasn't that same excitable child that everyone knew so well, and it was cause for concern with his mother and father. Sure, he was smiling and in good spirits, but he just wasn't the same. Maybe a trip out would make him feel better?

Once they arrived, Ogbonna set to surveying the area, as he'd grown accustomed to doing every night. He was twenty years old, had grown taller, and gained a considerable amount of muscle in his arms, but his hair and face hadn't changed all that much. Turquoise eyes lingered upon the Inn across the way and moved towards the river, only to widen as they spied a familiar face. Was that... Makani?

"Maka? Maka is that you?" He called out, running towards the river. "It's me, Ogbonna! It's been so long! How are you?"

Makani was sitting alongside the river that was near to where his older sister was building her inn, his eyes ever closed, listening to the sound of the water. It was calm here, nice and peaceful, and allowed him to just relax a bit. He knew that he had a job to do, but given that he knew there was already one barrel of good, pure water over at where the inn was being built he wasn't quite in a rush yet. He'd get the other one filled soon enough he thought to himself. Getting the water prepared for drinking was always a long process, meaning that he had to get himself ready to do so. He wasn't quite ready yet, he wanted to just soak up the peace for a little longer.

They were some distance away from Jauhar now, away from where the war had happened, and he was glad. He was done with dealing with that sort of thing, tired of the fighting, and tired of being covered in blood for what had felt like days on end. Now he didn't have to worry about that sort of thing, though occassionally he was called upon to tend to injuries here or there. He was a bit like the group's doctor, something he didn't mind so much since the worst he'd had to deal with in recent times had been a javelin through someone's shoulder. Oh, what was his name again? He couldn't quite recall, he just knew him as 'witu pup' because that was what his sister referred the guy as when she spoke of him. He wondered if that one would come back. Probably not, he seemed pretty unhappy while he was here.

Giving a little sigh he tilted his head back, enjoying the warm breeze that was going by when he heard a voice calling out to him. It was odd, it was a familiar voice, but different somehow, older now then when he'd heard it last. He gave a smile when the one the voice belonged to was kind enough to introduce himself, allowing Makani to know exactly who he was dealing with. Pushing himself to his feet he turned toward the sound of his footsteps and said, "Oggie, long time no see!" Chuckling as he said the words, unable to resist such a joke when it was so ripe for the taking.

Ogbonna grinned. It was Makani! He hadn't seen Maka in so long! Wasn't he a prentice the last time they met? Or had he only just started being a guard? He paused, pondering how fast time had gone, and hurried to Makani's side, giving the other a quick squeeze around the shoulders.

"Haha, good one!" He said, chuckling. "I'm so glad to see a familiar face! Are you part of the group that's making the Inn over there? It looks awesome so far! When do you think it'll be open?"

He wiggled in place a little, a remnant of his former childish excitement. This was the best thing ever, he hadn't seen many of his friends since the war, and seeing Makani was just what he needed. The guard stepped back, keeping his hands at Makani's shoulders, and set to looking him over. He looked very well, what a relief!

"Honestly, I'm so glad to see you! I haven't seen many of my friends since the war, so, sorry if I seem a little clingy!" He laughed.

Makani gave a smile as he found himself pulled into the hug, something that felt nice since he rather enjoyed such friendly contact and affection with others. It was strange though, Oggie felt different somehow, bigger. Lifting his hands he set to brushing his fingers against his friend's face, tracing his features lightly, before he said, "You're looking more grown up these days, Oggie. I think it's been far too long since the two of us have been able to hang out." Once he was done inspecting his face he lifted a hand to rest it on top of Oggie's head, "You're taller too, aren't you?"

At the question posted to him he gave a smile, "The inn belongs to my older sister and her troupe, as for when it will be open... well, if it was up to Eira it would be open yesterday, but it seems as though it takes time to build such things. I try my best to help where I can though. I can use my magic to move rocks that get in the way for instance but sadly I am not as good when it comes to building things." Hammers and nails weren't really his thing, he just risked squishing his fingers.

"Would you like to sit down with me for a little while, Oggie? I have a bit of work that I need to do but I am taking a little break from that." He said, reaching out to take Oggie's hand in his, drawing him over to sit down once more near to the river where Oggie would be able to see it and Makani would be able to listen to it, "It's pretty peaceful here today, so we can sit and talk, as for being clingy I don't mind." He lifted a hand to stroke Oggie's hair in a gentle manner, then gave him a smile.

Oggie's cheeks lit up as Makani inspected his face and couldn't help but laugh. This was how Maka saw things, including people, and he honestly found it beautiful. He had to touch something to really know it, it was a nice idea. He smiled, broadly, as Makani touched the top of his head and nodded.

"Yes, I've grown at least a few inches. I see you have, too!" He said, patting Makani's head in return. "Of course I'd like to chat! You look very well, how have things been?"

He sat beside Makani and crossed his legs. The river was a very soothing place, wasn't it? No wonder Makani liked it so much. He leaned towards the other and laughed.

"Oh, well, I'm not good at building, either. I'm more of a tearer-downer." He replied. "It's really nice around here, a pretty good spot for an Inn. You'll get a lot of travelers here."

Makani gave a smile as he tilted his head back slightly, listening to the sound of the moving water, rather enjoying the sound of it. It was so relaxing, the point that he was sure he could doze off right where he was sitting. Well, provided that his friend wasn't here that was, he didn't want to doze when he was finally able to chat with Oggie again after long last. He couldn't help but to give a little laugh as Oggie described himself as a 'tearer-downer' a description that Makani had never heard before but really brought to mind why he had enjoyed talking with Oggie in the past. He was funny as well as kind, the sort that Makani enjoyed spending time with.

"I am only good as side jobs, I'd hate to try to build something and accidentally knock the whole place over. I somehow think that I might lose my job in the troupe." He said with a little laugh. As he his friend praised the area that Eira had picked for the inn he gave a nod, "I've gone for walks around the area, to get a good feel for it. It's a rather nice place, really calming, and thus far nothing scary or dangerous has come tromping through. I bet that they saw Gyuri and went running." Something that he could understand, Gyuri was quite a tough individual, to the point even the fauna of Sauti didn't want to pick a fight with him.

Scooting closer to his friend he leaned against him and said, "Tell me what you have been up to, Oggie? It's been so long since we last talked."

Ogbonna's smile broadened as Makani scooted closer to him and he shifted his position to make it more comfortable for him. His eyes lingered on the other a moment and closed to listen to the sounds around them, a content sigh falling from his lips. It was... Really nice around here. Calm, quiet, not too violent... He could get used to this. He huffed another sigh and leaned his head against Makani.

"What have I been up to?" He repeated, his head turning toward the sound of his family across the way. "Uhhh... Getting back into family life, I guess? The war was hard on my entire family and, well, when I came back home my mother was... Heavier than I remembered her being."

He let out a laugh and shook his head.

"Imagine coming home from war to find out you're going to be an older brother..." He said, his eyes opening and looking towards the river. "... I mean, the concept is a little... Daunting to me. I'm not sure if I'm ready."

Makani listened closely, then gave a little nod as his friend spoke of the war and that it had been hard on his family. The blind sage could only nod his head in understanding, "It's been quite hard on everyone but it is my hope now that it's over that we might be able to return to normal. It won't be easy, but still, that is what I hope for." He said, lifting a hand so that he could stroke it against Oggie's hair in what he hoped would be a soothing gesture. He didn't like the idea that the war had effected so many people, especially since it was such a pointless thing. Those from the South could have been allies and friends but instead they chose to attack, to try to conquer, and in the end they had lost. It all seemed so pointless, something that didn't need to happen but still did.

Pushing his roiling thoughts aside he gave a thoughtful sound as Oggie commented on finding out that he was going to be an older brother. It wasn't something that was possible for Makani to learn, not unless his father remarried again, bu it was still something that made him smile, "The idea of new life is one that must be far nicer to hear about then the destruction and death caused by the war, right? It might be a daunting thing for you, but I am sure that your little sister or brother will come to look up to you. You are a kind and strong person, Oggie, and I am sure you will be a good influence for your little sibling."

Ogbonna blushed, more so at Makani's reassuring words than because of his hair being stoked. He smiled, though, and nodded along with his friend. He hoped everything would return to normal soon, but, on the other hand, he wasn't sure if everything could be what it used to be. There would be Obans and Matorians traveling through Tendaji now that it was all over, and seeing one of them would be more of a regular occurrence rather than how it was before. A few years ago he was a prentice at the tournament just learning how to control himself, and now he was a veteran of war sitting with a fellow comrade. It was all so much for his mind to take in.

"Ha! I suppose you're right about that!" He laughed. "Having someone to influence might be fun. Someone to look up to me, you know?"

He paused, looking across the way at his mother and father who had found someone to chat to, and then back to Makani.

"Speaking of siblings, how's your sister doing?" He asked, shifting his space. "Is she the one setting up this place?"

Makani gave a smile, "I am sure that you will do great as a big brother." He said, glad to hear Oggie laugh, it was a nice sound, one that the world needed more of after the war. How he preferred to hear people laughing and talking happily around him. It was a nicer sound then the others he'd had to deal with in the past and still dealt with from time to time in his dreams. He had to admit he was a touch envious, what might it be like to take care of a little one? He has no little siblings and, for the moment at least, there were no little ones that were a part of their troupe, so he couldn't say he really knew too much about them. Still, it sounded like something that would be nice.

"Eira is... Eira. She's a force of nature that one, get in her way and you're liable to get flattened." He said with a bit of a chuckle, "She decided that she was done with travel, but she still wanted the troupe to entertain, so she came to the decision that she needed an inn." He lifted a hand to wave it in the general direction of the building that they were all working on getting built and then up and running.

Lowering his hands to let them rest in his lap he said, "It will be interesting, if she gets the place up and running given she wants it to be a place that anyone can stay." There were going to be those who didn't agree with it would be open to everyone, no matter the race.

Ogbonna's face heated further. How was Makani so sure that he'd make a good big brother? He didn't know the first thing about babies, other than that they were cute and cried a lot! He fidgeted nervously and took a few breaths as Makani spoke. Hm, Eira sounded kind of like Rastian, as funny as it sounded. Bother were forces to be reckoned with. Both decided just when they wanted to settle and when they wanted to go, and everyone else around them couldn't do anything but go along with it. He nodded to himself. Yep, similar.

"Oh, gosh, she sounds like fun!" He laughed, patting Makani's shoulder. "But, I get it, the not wanting to travel thing. I mean, we did just get done with a war where everyone was displaced and stuff so, I can see why she'd want to have everyone settle down."

He paused, his gaze moving to his feet and outward again.

"Do you think it would be alright if I came to visit you here from time to time?" He asked, tilting his head. "... I wouldn't want to be a burden, though."

Makani couldn't help but to laugh, "She is most certainly fun, yes, one can't accuse her of being a stick in the mud or anything. That tends to be the job that Sin'qua takes on instead, being the more serious member of the troupe to help balance out Eira and her whims." He said, finding it amusing the compare the two women side by side.

He gave a smile when Oggie said that he understood what Eira was going for, "I'm glad to hear that, I can only hope that others will understand as well. I know that she wants anyone to be able to stop by, though she is going to implement a policy where people have to leave their weapons at the door. That way if they get in fights over... well, whatever they might fight about, then it's just fists. Less chance of things getting out of hand. It also means that I would have less to clean up as far as patching up her patrons would go." Something he was glad for, he'd had enough to patching up serious, life threatening injuries. He could go for just dealing with bar brawls from here on out. Once things got set up at least.

"Oh course, Oggie, you're welcome to visit at any time, you should know that. You are my good friend and it would make me happy to have you about. Maybe you can bring your sibling along as well, at least once things are set up, and he can see the show. Dancing, music, and magic, it should be something to see or so I am told." He gave a little chuckle at his own joke.

"That sounds like a very reasonable policy to have." He replied, pausing to laugh. He didn't know very much about inns, but he had heard that fighting was something that happened often when people drank, and inns were places that sold alcohol. It didn't take a scholar to make a connection between the two things. "Are fights all that common in inns, though? Like, all out brawls and stuff? Maybe they should make fighting rings close to inns so people can let their aggression out there and not in the actual inn itself... Or would that be bad publicity for the area?"

He closed his eyes and pondered the thought before letting out another burst of laughter.

"Maka, you're hilarious, you know?" He said, rubbing at his eye. "You're just what I needed after all of this. I've been so... I don't know, sad? Lost? I'm not sure of the correct word, but that's beside the point."

He flopped against Makani and let out a sigh.

"I've missed you so much."
PostPosted: Sun May 10, 2015 1:00 am

Makani gave a nod, "It happens when lots of people get together in a place that allowed drinking I suppose, inns are no different. We have body guards like Gyuri to help lessen the amount of fights, but there is still likely to be some. It's why she wants the weapons taken away as a precaution. There may be some fighting, there might be none, but so long as people don't have anything pointy it should be alright." He said, then gave a thoughtful sound, "Rings outside? Heh, I don't know, but maybe? I could see people just having fun being able to brawl for fun, not just for argument's sake alone. There are some guys who enjoy beating the stuffing out of each other for... some reason?" He didn't get it but if it made others happy who was he to judge?

Hearing his friend laughing Makani couldn't help but to smile, "Am I? Thank you, Oggie, I appreciate that. Some people just don't seem to get my jokes. I even riled up one of Eira's guests at one point because he didn't quite get me." He chuckled, actually sounding amused by the idea of getting someone all riled up by making the wrong joke around them. Not everyone was going to get him so he couldn't say he minded if they didn't.

Wrapping an arm around his friend he said, "I missed you too, Oggie, I'm glad that you came by. It's nice to just chat like this." Without finding himself getting herded back to work. Oggie was actually letting him slack off a bit, which was always nice. Not that he'd say that out loud. Lifting the arm that was wrapped around Oggie to ruffle his hair he said, "If you're feeling up to it, I could use your help in a task I am working on. It doesn't have to be straight away though, you just arrived and I'd feel bad just putting you to work."

Ogbonna didn't quite understand why, but he liked feeling Makani's arm around him. Be it comfort, bonding, or another reason, he didn't feel it needed searching. He was just happy to be close to someone he cared about. Someone he trusted and missed. The Guard wiggled his head up to look at Makani and smiled, a sense of gratitude washing over him. Then, he laughed.

"You're too smart for them, that's why!" He said, shaking his head. "Your jokes are so witty, smart, and funny, they're just too simple-minded to understand."

He paused as his hair was ruffled, a pleased smile taking form over the grin he had. He loved getting his head patted, not that he'd let anyone know that. It just felt nice. Like a pat on the back or a warm blanket. He closed his eyes, letting the feeling settle in, and looked up to Makani again when he spoke.

"Oh, I wouldn't mind! If you need my help, I'd be more than glad to!" He chirped, nodding. "What do you need? Is it heavy lifting or something like that? I'm good at that!"
