At five-thirty in the morning on a Friday afternoon, Oliver would find a giant man knocking at his door enthusiastically.
"Little bird, wake up! We are going on an adventure!"

The sudden banging was enough to startle Oliver out of sleep, but when he heard Arorangi's voice on the other side his head fell back against the pillow. "Mmrfff..." came his sleepy protest, muffled by the soft, sleep-warmed fabric. He pushed himself off the bed then anyway, trudged across the room, and turned the doorknob to let his friend in. Then he slouched back to bed and slid back under the warm blankets.

Arorangi was dressed in a pair of jeans and a vibrant orange tee shirt that was probably somewhat blinding to someone who was in the dark, sound asleep, and most likely sleep walking to the door.
"GOOD MORNING, LITTLE BIRD!" boomed Arorangi cheerfully, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him so that he wouldn't wake up anyone in the hallway (there were already one or two disgruntled shouts from people attempting to sleep). The volume was lowered a bit, but Arorangi traipsed over to the bed and picked up Oliver, blanket and all, and set him back on his feet.
"Wake up, my friend, we are going out, you and me!"

Oliver was so used to being manhandled that he didn't fight to stay in bed, he was merely disappointed that he was now being made to stand up. Pulling the blanket closer around his shoulders, he sat back down on the edge of the bed. "Can we go out in the morning? When it's not the middle of the night?" He asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes.

"Little bird, it is morning," said Arorangi cheerfully, already going to Oliver's closet to rummage around. He pulled out a shirt and some pants, tossing them over one shoulder, and kept looking.
"We are going to go on an adventure! I am taking you fishing!" he said, his voice a little muffled. "Do you not have boots, little bird?'

"It's not morning enough..." Oliver replied, and yawned loudly. Next thing he knew a shirt had landed over his head and jeans in his lap, so the boy started changing his clothes on autopilot. He was too tired to be nervous about changing in front of someone else. Besides. It was just Arorangi. Who currently had his head in the closet anyway. Oliver nearly fell over yawning while pulling on his pants. "Just my normal boots, you know... The brown ones..." They were his favourite shoes, only recently removed from full-time use to make room for a pair of running shoes. The Life trainee managed to dress without any serious mishap, and crawled back into bed.

Oliver was right to not care that he was changing in front of Arorangi, because Arorangi could have cared less, and he was still in the middle of attempting to find more clothes for Oliver to wear.
"Ah, yes!" He plucked up the boots, turned around, and saw Oliver had gotten back into bed.
"Oh, no you don't."
Crossing the room again, Arorangi reached out, scooped Oliver up, and tossed him over his shoulder, fireman style, patting his back encouragingly to show that he cared so much about you, Oliver.
"Upsy daisy, little bird, I'll get you some breakfast!"

Oliver patted Arorangi's back in return, but it was more of a silent 'okay, I give, you win' gesture. How on earth did the large man have so much energy first thing in the morning? "Why don't they have poptarts in the cafeteria?" He asked waiting patiently to be set back down on his feet. "I haven't had a poptart in forever... Where are we going, anyway?"

It seemed like Oliver was getting more used to Arorangi's antics, since there was less flailing than usual and he was more or less just putting up with it rather than attempting to fight it like he normally would.
"Maybe we can pick up some poptarts on the way!" he said brightly and set Oliver back down onto his feet, standing with his hands on his hips. "We are going fishing, like I said! Wake up, little bird!"

"I am awake," Oliver lied sleepily. He put on one boot slowly, shoving one foot in and kicking the toe against the ground, then repeating the process with his other. They were very sturdy, well-worn boots. "I should probably buy some next time I get a chance, they don't even serve pancakes often, and breakfast is supposed to be important, right?" Finally he reached for his coat, hanging on the back of his door, and paused. "No, but where are we going, um, for fishing? Should I bring my coat, or do I need to wear something, ah... normal? I don't have much that's normal though..." Looking over his shoulder, he shot Arorangi a questioning look.

"Are not," was Arorangi's cheerful retort. "You are still half asleep, little bird, but that is okay, do not worry too much. You will be awake soon enough! And yes, breakfast is very important, that is why we will get food!"
He glanced back at the other and laughed. "You do not need to bring a coat, yes, and do not worry, I have supplies with me! We will be going to Australia, so there will be lots of sun and lots of warmth!"

Oliver perked up a little. "Really? We are going to Australia? If we are going fishing, do you think we might see a shark?" Even though Arorangi said supplies were being brought, Oliver absentmindedly grabbed his bag, a worn-looking knapsack sitting next to his desk, and lifted it over one shoulder. In a way it was a substitute coat, carrying some 'emergency' snacks, and a number of other things he had gotten used to having on hand regularly. Most important were the snacks though. He might even need them later, because he had completely forgotten about breakfast. "Did you know there used to be a shark with a spiral row of teeth? The fossils look like some sort of spiky shell thing, but instead of losing teeth the shark just pushed old ones further along the spiral as it grew new ones!"

"We could probably see a shark!" said Arorangi brightly. "There are many sharks in Australia, but I am sure that we might see maybe one if we are particularly unfortunate. They do not come too close to beaches, though!"
He clapped a hand on Oliver's shoulder and began ferrying him out of the room, pushing gently but firmly in the direction of the doorway.
"That sounds terrifying!" said Arorangi cheerfully. "I am glad none of those kinds of things exist today, do they?"

"Not that we know of yet!" Oliver chirped happily. "Although I bet there's something crazy like that... um... hanging around the island here somewhere... we do get all sorts of monsters and stuff..." His enthusiasm immediately dissipated after accidentally reminding himself of what sort of nonsense his wonderful job and wonderful life involved. Knowing his luck, he would probably run into a helicoprion shark the next time he went looking for samples. Suddenly he was exhausted all over again. "When we get to Australia, what time of day will it be there?" Oliver asked, somehow stopping himself before asking if he could take a nap when they got there.

Out in the hallway, Arorangi slung his own bag back over his shoulder (he'd left it sitting just outside of Oliver's door), and beamed a bright smile at the other boy, shoving his hand into his pocket.
"It is only two hours different, I researched it!" he said, as he pushed open the door to the stairwell. "It is almost six o'clock here, so it is almost eight o'clock in Australia, in the place that we are going! And do not worry, little bird, we will not be traditional fishing! There is a certain kind of fishing that we will be doing!"
